News outlets, teachers, and other adults: these scientists are professionals and if you want to be like them, there's no fun and games.
Actual scientists: "It looks like a bloated squid with tiny tentacles and a hat : D"
also actual scientists: "I'm gonna name this one 'basalt layer cake'"
a little hat thats waving around and it looks like a reindeer lol
also actual scientists: "this gene regulates body symmetry, and can have horrifying results if there's an error in it...let's name it after Sonic the Hedgehog."
literally no one says there is no fun and games..

Is there anything more wholesome than passionate scientists being genuinely captivated by our world :3
Seeing scientists in their natural environment is the best! You all seem so excited and interested!
Few hundred grand of university debt to sound like a class of excited 10 year olds on a school trip to a sealife centre 😑
@@rarebird_82 Oh yeah, people showing the purest joy for their jobs sounds terrible! I hate it when scientists have fun!
@@rarebird_82 a few hundred grand 😂😂 it's not even 10k a year to study a degree in marine biology you melt
oh man, the atmosphere y'all maintain is amazing! You get so excited and so awed by what you discovered, and it feels so special and great. i mean it is, but you actually make us feel that way. thank you for taking us with you in this adventure. hope y'all have a wonderful day
The scientists talking as they are looking at the same stuff we are, makes it so engaging! So cool to experience this with them instead of being told about it... if that makes sense?
@@ahlebrand I think HMRL meant it in the sense that you would think biologists talk mostly in scientific terms, or are a bit more rigid and serious with their work. Hearing their almost childlike excitment makes it more enjoyable for laymen such as ourselves.
It does, and it is!
I love how incredibly polite everyone is.
You guys need to release an hr. or two long edit. I could watch this footage non stop.
If you're lucky, you can catch them live! Their website has live feeds from three different vantages, usually, one being the screen everyone sees, a room where they look at retrieved samples, and one is the outside of the nautilus from further back than the main camera so it doesnt get a light.
They don't work for me, do they just take a while to process or something? They are super long
yea they are probably trying to infuse some of this into movies, documentaries, books etc. so they dont want to give it all out for free to that extent. i feel lucky they live stream it even. but during expeditions, at the end of the days dive they usually rerun the days adventure on the 3rd camera. as far as a complete backup of all the livestreams im not sure about.
the full 8hr+ adventures are amazing to sleep to so ive tried to find complete streams and would like access also, but theres all the behind the scenes and copyright etc. going on so who knows and i think they deserve to sell as much of it as they need to books, documentaries, movies, magazines, etc. i understand why they wouldnt upload full livestreams for monetary purposes, or just logistical purposes and how long and how much space it takes to hold a 5hr-10hr live stream. holding it themselves and providing it to the public takes up space and then try to upload that to youtube probably takes a very long time and it probably wont get a lot of views so they edit it down to get to the point and try to provide something they think people will actually watch. most people wont watch hours long streams or videos but i would
yea they have hour long edits on their channel, its not the full dives but its still the hour long or so ur looking for, may need better internet connection try a different browser like google chrome etc. they are playing for me
Thank goodness that the marine biologists, the ones who are on-board the submersible, are able to narrate. If I were there, I'd be too overwhelmed to say anything about the breathtaking life and topography that this crew is exploring. 💞
The way you guys get excited, the explanation you give and the shots you try to get makes this an insanely fun educational channel.
"What an incredible animal"
*Proceed to rips his arms off*
Yeah I also read somewhere that every deep sea animal that gets recorded with those bright lights will be immediately permanently blind because their eyes are way too sensitive for those lights.
Edit: I did find a source here: montereybay.noaa.gov/research/techreports/trkochevar1998.html
"It is clear that the current state of knowledge is insufficient to devise a sound management policy for the use of artificial lights in the deep sea. However, available information suggests that deep sea fauna may be affected by exposure to bright artificial lights, underlining the need for research on this topic."
so it doesn't seem to be as bad as whatever it was i read but might still be true for some creatures.
troytjuh that's not true
@@Tosti_Tory The key here is "I read somewhere". If you don't know for a fact, then don't talk about it. That's how 90% of misinformation is spread on the internet, because people "read something somewhere" and then go around and tell others and nobody actually verifies the research.
Please don't be one of those people :)
1. We should try not to harm any animals we're studying.
2. I'd say having to harm animals in the pursuit of knowledge is acceptable. Especially considering the tremendous harm animal agriculture is causing all ecosystems. Complain about that first, it's just not comparable.
@@Pyriphlegeton That's a ridiculous proposition. "Ignore the harm caused by this field because of harm caused in another entirely irrelevant field" This is just you moving the goalpost in order to justify the harm caused by an exploritive effort you enjoy, which is lazy because you tacitly accept a method of exploration that could be outfitted to accomodate the more gentle conditions of the deep, dark sea. We all know there are bigger and better problems, but that doesnt' invalidate this one.
Everybody who was involved in getting this footage to us - Thank you. Sincerely, thank you!
This is the closest thing to space/alien planets exploration i ever seen.
You take it from my mouth 😅 better than no mans sky on twitch 😅
Never have say how big things are expect for coarls. So everything is only less than a foot to 2 at most.
Listening to these nerds enjoy doing science is life-affirming. The stuff they find down there is mind-blowingly beautiful as well!
7:42 idk if they saw it but we’re more focused on the squid or if they just missed it but there was a toad fish looking thing that just sat there and avoided being noticed
they notice it all
Ya right, that guy was too big to miss, they must have already spoken about it, or have seen many. But the other creature was unknown so it stole the show.
I believe they spoke about it, said it was an anglerfish of some kind.

Out of all of this, you may be surprised that my favorite is the crabs in the mid-column. Before I became addicted to EVNautilus a few seasons ago I only thought of crabs as something I saw on the beach. I imagined them only on the bottom at whatever depth the bottom was. Whenever I see them in the water column I think of them as jazz jiggity crazy pranksters and it makes me so happy. They're just floating there! I imagine them going, _wheeeeeeee!_ The last (second?) and very deceptive dumbo was a close second. Also a bit of a merry prankster.
Okay, I think I've officially found the BEST channel on RUclips. This is AMAZING!

I am so glad this video appeared on my recommended tab. Usually I give a new channel a few videos before I subscribe, but this deserves immediate subscription.
So sad it's less than 200k sub count. This is amazing.
We live in amazing times.
To be able to watch this so easily in incredible.
I can't describe my gratitude towards the entire team!
When I look at all the incredible creatures here and breathtaking geological features that nobody on earth has ever laid eyes on until this video was taken, I cannot bring myself to believe that we live on the only inhabited planet in this universe. There is so much left to discover on our own planet alone, how could it be that not a single organism exists out there?
I can lazer him pew pew

The deep sea definitely invented tripods before us
I love how you all joke around but can get serious as well. Fascinating footage! I've always thought that when I die, I want to travel through the oceans and see all the different life there is. Until then, you're making me happy with what you're showing. What an amazing planet we live on.

Cephalopods are always the ICONS of the EVNautilus channel
This is beautiful. Thank you guys so much for what you are doing. It's so refreshing to witness people do something that they're so passionate about - and to do it at such a high level. Simply amazing!
Such an enigmatic beauty this world has. Lets continue to take care of it and share it peacefully.
I'm sad the self-sampling Hermit Crab didn't make the cut.
It would have to be from the full streams and I don't think we can view them, unfortunately.
Please upload more long ones. I can watch these errrday.
the new subnautica DLC looks GREAT!!!
By the best channel I have subscribe, is amazing to see all these, feeling like we are there with you guys, keep up the good work, finally a channel were we can see our world a tangible world not like space.
I love the commentary. It really makes the experience so much better!
Thank you so much for sharing! This brought me so much joy.
Awesome video! Great commentary by the scientists, flawless video quality, good music choice and fascinating deep sea life.

The sea ecosystems is so fascinating and i love how infectious your passion is
It blows my little pea brain to think of all the possibilities of the ocean life we haven't discovered yet. I LOVE it when they discover new stuff way down in the ocean, Amazing discoveries to be had far into the future.
Aww man...nooo...i want more. Its so cool seeing what you all are seeing for in some cases the 1st time. I love this.
Just loving the video.. would appreciate the names of the critters in the description (if possible) kudos to all for spending the time and recourses on the great unknown. And for sharing. I give you a 5.

The oceans are so fascinating! Thank you, EV Nautilus. 👍
Listening to the scientists giggle and talk to each other in normal terms trully is the best part imo. Reminds me of my old times in 12th grade in biology groups. Now I'm studying engineering to be able to design those tiny subs
Beautiful views with superb resolution. Good work, ladies and gentlemen.
Somehow this wound up in my recommendations. I'm glad it did because I love nature. New subscriber!!
It’s amazing to see that there are different types of species of octopus! Love this soooo much so relaxing & fascinating :)

Highlight vids are a great idea for this kinda stuff. The music is quite fitting too.
Thanks for the amazing journey under the sea!
That was amazing, beautiful and mesmerizing!
That was amazing!!! Stunning creatures and beautiful pictures. That last minute or so though - I realized eventually that the picture hadn't got grainy but that was a TON of very tiny fish?? Plus all the - the whatever they ares - that looked like tentacles, but had no squid to go with them. Fascinating!

You guys are so awesome!!!! I love your videos
I love these videos. I am too afraid of the water, so could never go see for myself. THANK YOU.
These shots are incredible
Magnificent! Thanx again for sharing!
Wow! That is truly an amazing adventure! I wish I were there exploring and discovering! All I can say is “Wow!”
i love that this little squid is facing something it's never seen before, is much larger than itself and is possibly about to attack and this little guy's first reaction is to be sassy. for something without a backbone that takes guts.
Fantastic videos!!! Thank you!!!
The red blob squid was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.
Definitely no flack here. That stack was beautiful. This whole thing was beautiful.
Absolutely mesmerizing.
