Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid in 1985 and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

The thing I remember most about John Mellancamp is that they tried to turn him into some kind of glitter rock set symbol and he rejected it. He just wanted to be himself and that's what he did best. The raw power and sincerity of his music always came through.

Haha nope. My dad HATES John Mellencamp with a burning passion. I'm not even allowed to say his name around him :/ My mom thinks he's okay. She likes his 80s hits, but she doesn't listen to him often. I discovered John Mellencamp on my own. I'm an old soul. I love a variety of older artists such as Bob Seger, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, etc. My favorite musician is Bob Seger but John Mellencamp falls closely behind. I want to see John live so badly but my parents don't wanna go... I have to try my best to get some money. The concert is in 1 month.

Lol well, I guess the "best" of music really was the late 60's and early 70's but still there were a lot of good 80's tunes. I hope you get the funds to go for sure, it'll be a good time definitely. I don't know if pop cans are worth shit where you are but that's a place to start for a young kid to get cash. lol 5 cents a piece here. after about 20,000 of them you got somethin goin on..

YEP I was an 85 graduate that went to the military. Grew up in a family of musicians. I loved all 80’s Metal, Rock, what we called soft rock and country. Mellencamp I will still listen to unlike Bruce Springsteen who is now a total puke! John wrote a song that he was vocal about and did not like the politics of war and people called him left wing but he still was about facts at the time. And he moved on. Bruce well he regurgitates propaganda and lies as an elite today. Im thankful some musicians like John understand facts matter!

I was 9 years old when JCM launched his first album and I immediately knew this guy was gonna be star. I was 9 when this song was launched on radio. He is still one of America’s best singers.
