Out of the Strong come sweetness is the description. Or something very like. I suppose an American version would be Maple Syrup?

@James Goacher, Lyle’s Golden Syrup is available in many grocery stores here in the USA. 🤗👍🏼

@@jamesgoacher1606 You may be able to find Lyle's or some other Golden Syrup in the ethnic foods aisle at your grocery store! Amazon also carries it. But if that fails, you'd actually want to go with corn syrup (probably light), not maple.

I was wondering...thought maybe I had been calling it the wrong name. My great auntie used to have a piece with Lyle's for a snack that's how I got hooked on it. It is available in Canada as well.

Your video popped up randomly while I was drinking my morning coffee. I'm English, lived in Edinburgh as a child half the year, for 18 years, married an American and have lived in USA for 25 years...its ALOT 😂 Your video took me back to being taught how to make a steamed sponge pudding in Domestic Science class when I was 12. TYFS it made me smile but ponder how fast the years have gone. Hugs Kate in New York ❤
PS: I know an English lady who is 81, shes been here 50 years. A few days ago I made a traditional rice pudding and delivered a bowl. Guess what her suprise is at the weekend...

@madhattersoriginal6258 Aww, you sound like a lovely neighbor, indeed. I am the American daughter of an English woman and an American man. I know the delight my mom experienced in the 1970s when she happened across some random English product that would pop up in some store or another in the small town in Ohio where our family settled. I can only imagine how much your English neighbor appreciates your gifts of English desserts. 🥰

@lisahinton9682 TY for your lovely comment. She loved the syrup sponge pudding with Birds custard. She hadn't had it for 40 years. I had to start and make my own golden syrup before I could make it though 😕 Hugs Kate

This sure does look good. Thanks for bringing back a childhood memory. My mom was born and raised in Liverpool, so even though I am American, I got to enjoy this many a time as a youngster. (I was fascinated by the whole pleating thing! And here you did it, too! Ahh, memories!)
Hoping you're having a lovely week. Thanks for this!

I finally made this tonight (March 1st, 2020) and it was delicious. I did it in the pressure cooker in about an hour and we really enjoyed it. I've done steamed puddings for Christmas but they are always fancy, this was just right. Easy to make, sweet but not really sweet. A perfect sweet bite to have after dinner, or should I say tea? Thanks for sharing.

Hi lovely lady. This pudding was the Beesknees. I made a golden syrup sauce to go with it and my family loved it. I have a question, I need to make a larger version, so I’m planning on doubling the mixture. I have a large suitable Pyrex dish and a huge pan to steam it in but do I cook it for the same period of time or will it take longer? Thank you. 😊
