Welcome back to What’s For Tea. For pudding tonight I made this old school syrup sponge pudding :)
This is such an old recipe and one my gran used to make!
Super easy and absolutely delicious. It’s simple syrupy basin pudding with a moist sponge and sticky toffee sauce- a Great British tradition with retro charm.
Perfect as a midweek treat after dinner or any time as a cheeky snack.
I’ve listed everything I used below…in case you want to give it a go for yourself.
Thanks for stopping by and until I see you next, take care x

Very nice comfort dessert 👍👏! I would probably also add crushed walnuts, raisins, and a bit of rum to "gild the lily" 😋.
The butter foil trick, brilliant. Thank you.
Omg this my favorite pudding from back home. In America now. I immediately went to Amazon to order golden syrup so gonna make this :)
This is actually the best STP recipe I've seen.
Hi. Looks delicious never seen a sticky toffee recipe without dates. That sauce was to die for. Thank you.
I have a different recipe which I done a couple of years ago on the channel :) the full recipe which includes dates. This is just a simplified version.
ahhhh golden syrup...I am a Canadian living in the US and I have never seen Golden syrup here. There are just some things you cannot find outside of the commonwealth...lol
Oh my! What a perfect dessert! ❤🤗
Well, that's dessert sorted for Sunday. Thank you 😊
I had this when I visited Scotland and it was delicious tfs 🥰☘️💐🍀🌸🌞🌵🐣🐇🍃🏜️
oh my goodness. I have got to make this recipe. Looks delish. I like to add pears at the bottom and or apples. YUM.
Lovely twist, getting into apple dumpling territory when you start adding fruit. Pineapple works well too, either fresh or tinned.👌
I am soooo glad you did this one first from the poll. I have always wanted to try this. I managed to find Golden syrup and self raising flour from a local British shop here in Florida, USA, of all places. I am making this this weekend!! Thank you!!
You can use all purpose flour instead as long as you add baking powder and salt. Also, maple syrup is quite fine. Just google for ratio of ingredients.
AMAZING pudding and the sauce looks delicious 🍮🍮
Linda
Made your Tiffin recipe... now on second batch by popular demand, Thanks Cheryl
Looks lovely Cheryl x👍🌈🏴
Delicious!😋 And thank you for showing us how to make the cover for the pudding basin.
Hi Cheryl, I'm not a pudding person as such but I must say if we go out for a meal and we have pudding this is my go to if on the menu x
Look fantastic Cheryl and not a lot of faff either. You made tying it look very easy. I usually shy away from the string and use a bowl with a lid.😁
Never had this in America. Looks just delicious! Your quite a baker Cheryl!
I was able to buy that Golden Syrup on Amazon and now I can use it in this gorgeous recipe. Thank you! Jane
What a gorgeous dessert!
That looks lovely :) Greetings from Scotland. Have a lovely day everyone!
I live toffee and that cake looked amazing. I have to share this and make it as soon ar I get the ingredients!! Beautiful
A fine demonstration, thanks! I had sticky pudding years ago at Simpsons-in-the-Strand and thought it was the most delicious thing I had ever ate.
Looks wonderful cheryl.
Maybe next winter I'll make this, as it's getting too warm in North Florida for such a dessert. Funny thing, I have absolutely no problem with making Cranachan in the middle of winter ;-) I love watching all the way to the end of your videos because I enjoy seeing Scotland, or wherever you travel...or Jasper, or whatever you like to share.
Oh my god, my favourite sin whenever I'm in the UK for holidays. Thank you so much for the recipe. I love your videos and your wonderful accent. Greetings from Bavaria
Ohhhh my! Caramel and toffee are my favorite flavors of anything sweet! Cheryl, this looks wonderful! I'll be making this a lot! Thanks for sharing! Hugs and blessings!
Looks scrumptious!
At first from the picture I thought it was meatloaf and gravy with mashed potatoes😹. But this is way better. 😸
😸👌
I thought the same thing for a minute 🤣
Oh my, looks so delicious! Going to have to try this!
This looks so yummy, and that sauce looks so silky and smooth.
Definitely can't wait to give this a try.
Hope your keeping safe, love to Jasper.
This is my fave pud ever looks so good and that silky toffee sauce wow thanks for sharing ❤️
WOW! That cake looks delicious. I think I gained a few pounds just looking at it. I don't care, either. LOL Gotta try to make this, for sure. Thanks for another great video, Cheryl.
Looks amazing! Perfection. Your family is very lucky!
Looks very tasty I have never had sticky toffee pudding. Thank you Cheryl for the video. fx
Looks awesome
my favorite pudding yummy
Yum!
Im making this. 👍👌🙏
Cheryl, it looks superb 😘❤️
Looks so yummy 😋
Omg this looks so yummy.
Wow nice vlog Cheryl wow nice
This looks absolutely unreal.... you are the pudding queen 👑
Oh, my! This looked absolutely fabulous! xx
this is beautiful. i'll need to give it a go, my folks made a banger STP.
No problem viewing here in Canada thank goodness. 👍😊 I like your recipe without dates, since I'm not keen on them and they're a pain to bother with really, but I'd love a version with plain flour plus baking powder for us without SR. Lyle's can be bought from Amazon or we can use corn syrup but SR flour not as easy. This looks so delicious, haven't had any for years, I'd love to make it. So yummy. We can get Bird's custard powder no problem, just waiting to get my vaccine jab next week and this pudding will be mine.😁
My diabetic hubby just asked me to make this and claimed he’d only ‘have a little slice’ Yeah right! Looks absolutely gorgeous for all of you though. Yum!!!!
Looks delicious nice video
I’m so glad you put this video on. Been dreaming of this since your Instagram post :)
This looks amazing! Thanks for sharing this yummy dessert with us!
Omg this looks so delicious wish I could make it 😋❤️
Thank you for showing us how to make this wonderful pudding! My Mum used to make a suet pudding with raisins and put it in cloth and steam/boil it? Could you do a video on that. She always made it for my birthday and for my brother she would make old fashion bread pudding ( not bread and butter).
This really looks delicious! 😋
The only sticky toffee pudding I know is with dates, and I really don't like dates.
So I'm definitely going to give your recipe a try!! Nomnomnom. 😋😋
That looks delicious, on my list x
It looks lovely 🌻
Well this looks absolutely beautiful and delicious! Squish Jaspers head for me as always. 😊
Making this on Sunday for pud 👌
Mmmm looks so delish...did think for a minute you had served mashed potatoes with it:)))
yum yum yum!!!
My mouth is watering Thats my diet out of the window xxx
Hi Cheryl! This is making my mouth water and gained a pound just watching it😁
That looks amazing
I reckon you could use the slow cooker for a large part of this.
Looks good...I like to add dates to the pudding
Oh that looks so good. Do you think it could be done in the pressure cooker? 🤔
Cracking pudding, IMO the king of stodgy puds
This ĺooks so delicìous!😍 Thank you.
Ommmmgggg love this!!!! Xx
Omg yummy! I’m so glad you didn’t put dates in it!
Omg dates are amazing!!! Each to their own I guess
I have a recipe for a gluten free sticky toffee pudding. My son isn't gluten intolerant but I made it for myself and he LOVED it.
Deeelish I’ve never met anyone that doesn’t like a sticky toffee pudding.
I don't like it 🤦🏻♀️
Ha you haven't met my husband and my son then!😂 All the more for me and my daughter! Bonus! That's fine by me!🙂
@@annmcgrath8832 hahaha for sure..u can never have too much of this
Hi Cheryl! My hubs and I had sticky toffee pudding on holiday in Scotland and I'll def be making this for him! Could you please give some dimensions/capacity for the basin? Thank you!
Mmmmm, yummo Cheryl, score from me, 4 screen licks. Lol 😆.
I would eat that for breakfast.
I wonder if you could steam the pudding in a croc pot? May have to give it a try.
I want to make this, but as it is maple sugar season, try a maple cream sauce.
Hi what's for tea I absolutely enjoyed watching your youtube channel absolutely amazing love from paul Roberts congratulations to you
I thought that was sticky toffee pudding and mashed potatoes. At first I was like, well, she does like her mash. I will have to try this recipe. The UK section In my Canadian Grocery store has just started carrying Lyle's Golden Syrup.
You find golden syrup near the pancakes too.
No kind of syrup where I live ... can I use honey instead ? Or how can I make syrup?
ever consider using a pressure cooker? might take a 3rd of the time for a dish like this
I’ve never used a pressure cooker 😀 they intimidate me a bit 😖
My goodness did you see those knot tying skills? Did you grow up an a sailboat Cheryl?😎
It was quite tricky 😁
Can I make this in my new plastic pudding basin? Does anyone know if the plastic pudding basin can be boiled?
What a load of waffle to get the pudding going😂
OMG just watching this put me on a sugar high! Looks yummy
How about making a Brown Betty?
You're right, that sponge is super simple!
Also, on an unrelated note, you must have lost a lot of weight on WW! It's quite visible just from your arms alone. The only reason I'm mentioning it is because I lost about 1.5st two years ago and I didn't really register how different my body looked until people pointed it out to me 😂 Anyway, congrats on the weight loss!
Gutted my steamed pudding did not set was still liquid after 3 hrs ?
Interesting. I’ve never seen this.
I can't see anything just green anyone else having this problem xx
Yeah same
Yes, I commented earlier, but deleted it, because others were commenting on how yummy it looked 🥺
Same for me, green screen.
Looks fine on my end 🤷♀️
Yes same with me too
Hi my name is Paul Roberts congratulations on your success love watching your youtube channel absolutely outstanding on RUclips absolutely amazing congratulations to you love from paul Roberts congratulations
yummers can u deliver
It’s not what I would call a Sticky Toffee Pudding ... it’s more like a syrup sponge pudding with caramel sauce
All l can see is a green screen...🥺, if l move the marker across l see everything....weird..🙃😂
Oh no 🤦🏻♀️
Same here.
Me too.
Looks delicious, not sure it’s sticky toffee pudding........where are the dates?
Not everyone likes dates, in my opinion they ruin it
@@stillirise9705 I agree, don't like dates so I'm happy to find a version without. Just the SR flour to sort now. 😊
I know you’re already married but I THINK I LOVE YOU!❤️
I can hear you just fine but all I can see is a green screen. 🙁
