    We cut 4 in material with our batwing bushhog and then we bring the skidsteer if its any bigger it cuts up to 10 in material. Its a neat machine know doubt but watching how it cuts the saplings its really just a lawnmower a heavy duty one. Those pines are very easy cutting to our mower on the skidsteer it will cut tons of them without even bogging.

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  4 года назад

      Yep...it's most certainly not a skid steer...but far from a lawn mower too. We love the little ventrac...of course you can bring in a skid loader and a mulcher and do this too....however why waste the money when the ventrac can do most of the work. Remember it's only 24hp....the most used machine on our property

By the time I had finished, I couldn't even hold the front end up off of the gravel to get it back to the shed. You should look at Italian tractors with the reversible driver console. In Australia at least the smaller tractors, rated at around 40HP, cost around the same as a Ventrac. However the Italian tractors have a PTO and linkage.
      Companies like BCS, Antonio Carraro , AGT and Ferrari make these tractors.

I guess I should add that I have a Ventrac 4500Z - just pointing out what they said fails the most as the guy that dropped it off was also the shop tech for the Ventrac's. I have 35+ degree hills and nothing can climbing them like the Ventrac.

    You about needed a forestry mower for the skid steer. I hope that part won't cost you more than what you're getting for the clearing of the land. That's usually my luck. Usually, it's when I'm doing a favor for a friend and I cost myself thousands of dollars. Owning a lot of equipment is not for the faint of heart, I always seem to be spending money constantly, but when you have a fleet of trucks and grading and farm equipment it gets costly. LOL That's why I bought my own Napa Store. If you can't beat um, join em. Keep up the good work, don't get frustrated I know some days things will get you down. Great video dude! I knew when I saw you cutting down 3 to 4" trees there would be some wrench time involved!!! Good thing that they parts are reasonable and it is easy to work on. Love my Ventrac and have taken it in some places that no other machine could go.

    You should do a show on the camera on maintenance and repair costs. A lot of us want to be farmers and homesteaders that want to go get all this equipment know how much it costs but before I got to give John Deere $38,000 it would probably be a good idea to know how much it’s gonna cost me a year to maintain and repair all of that. Lol

    If you are going to do clear land like that, you should check into a forestry mulched for your skid steer?

    I think you missed 3 grease zerk fittings on the tough cut deck. I thought I was too tough on mine, but you take the cake.

      now let me enlighten ya brotha....it's a sealed bearing!! So where does the grease go? Toured the factory..bearings on the deck are totally sealed lol

    • @rooster3019
      @rooster3019 Год назад

      @@StoneyRidgeFarmer @Stoney Ridge Farmer I have not had the bearings out of a Ventrac spindle yet, but my bet is that they are 2RS design or maybe bottom metal sheild and top Rubber Shield (plastic sheild). The oil of the grease in these :sealed bearngs does get used-up as a volitile component, leaving thickner as almost a cake-like crud. The plastic shields (you call seals) will allow pressurized grease to enter and reflesh the bearing. Another example is the 2RS bearing of your power take=off sheeve on the power unit. It has no zerk fitted incasement and WILL dry-out. Mine was dry as a popcorm fart at 800 hours, but not yet damaged. I removed one shield to clean and repack; going strong. Eventually the bearings wear-out regardless of care and are not very expensive and not difficult to replace.

    At my brother's house in England he needed a permit to trim a tree in his backyard, which did not even overhang the neighbors property. Such bureaucracy is a way of life over there.
    I thank my lucky stars I live in the USA on my 5 acres in the mountains where I can hitch up the Brush Hog and don't have to get permission to clean up brush.

    Thank goodness for shear pins. I've beat the hell out of my bush hog, but it's a tank, and takes it. I just replace the shear pin in the drive shaft once in a while.
