  • Tom Holland's Spider-Man has been through way more outfits than his counterparts Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield - and yet none of them have had a fraction of the impact. I look at the costumes Peter will don in Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as giving my thoughts on the trailer and the future of the wallcrawler on screen.

With Tobey Maguires suit it always looked and felt real because it was an actual suit. You could clearly see the man behind that suit when it was damaged to, Ripped and torn in each movie giving emphasis to just how dangerous being spider-man was with how Damaged the suit could get.
I grew up with Maguire spidey, so maybe nostalgia is clouding my judgement, but that’s just my opinion about the different suits. Primarily just the effect of how they endure battles.

First of all I completely agree about the Iron Spider suit: ugly as sin.
However, I actually like heroes having new suits fairly often, for a couple reasons. One, it is more realistic, since in real life technology progresses very fast and if you want to always be using the most cutting-edge stuff you will need to upgrade often. It totally makes sense that Captain America's body armor would be upgraded in the three years between Avengers and Age of Ultron or in the seven years between Civil War and Infinity War. This also helps to emphasize situations where there is a good reason *not* to upgrade, like how in the The Dark Knight Rises, Batman is still wearing the same costume from The Dark Knight because he has been retired for eight years and hasn't ben keeping up with upgrading his suit. The other reason I like multiple suits is that it drives home that the hero is the hero, no matter what they are wearing, and changing up their costumes frequently helps remind the audience that there is nothing special about the costumes themselves, just the people inside them.

I think that all the creation of the suits make sense within context. Sure, some may be a bit farfetched, but all scenarios are believable.
The red-black upgrade suit? he didn't have a suit for the final battle in FFH since iron spider was left at home, so made a new one.
Also, about the iron spider suit being in No Way Home, i think it makes sense in context. From FFH's last scenes, you see him using the upgrade suit back at home, meaning he prefers it over the iron spider. So when he's going out to fight crime, he'd readily wear the upgraded suit.
BUT, the upgraded suit's problem is that peter can't carry it with him all the time. So my guess is that he carries the iron spider suit (in compact form like tony did in the beginning of infinity war) when he's out as peter parker in case of any emergencies.
To back up my point, in the first NWH trailer, you see peter on top of the car, wearing a classy suit and tie, then activates the iron spider suit. My guess is that he was on his way somewhere wearing fancy, but since doc ock appeared, he used his "emergency backup suit" which he can carry around anywhere discreetly, unlike his favourite upgraded red-black suit.

Idk, it’s hard to buy that Peter is broke when the suits look as high end as they do in that trilogy. It’s TOO perfect looking, but the design itself it beautiful. Alex Ross’s criticism of it, to me, is completely valid.
Also, the main suit still did change every movie, although the 2002 suit is much more noticeably different from the 2004 and 2007 variations. To me, 2002 suit (excluding maybe the front logo) > 2004 suit > 2007 suit

I quite like the iron spider suit. And his useage of it in homecoming (i think?) Makes sense. Why would he throw away an objectively superior suit, when he's dirt poor and can't really afford a half decent suit?
The night monkey suit i always just thought existed because Peter didn't want to lug around the iron spider.
The upgrade suit is certainly one that i think peter would likely wear for most his time after homecoming, being a brillant suit that he designed himself, bringing him forward from his days as iron man Jr and into proper spider man territory.
I do think he would keep iron spider around, and fighting the old villans would probably be the time you would use it, but definitely not day to day use, and i hope we see very little of it.
The intergrated suit i would then say is just iron man mark 4, but I'll agree it does seem stupid.
And then turning it inside out is fine. Yeah, its a new look, but it can make sense and I'm always willing to let companies try to make extra money if they do provide actually good entertainment.

I am also looking forward for the upcoming suit with the white spider as he reminds me of the ps4 spider-man who is arguably one of the best versions of the character in the last 20 years.
We don't know the purpose of the suit yet and how he gets it but I can imagine that he gets the suit from doc ock like in the ps4 game as he seems to become an allie of the spider-men in the trailer

This is incredibly nitpicky. First of all you're wrong when you say that Peter swapping out suits is "few and far between" in the comics. Obviously he always has that base level red and blue to go back to for the smaller scale stuff, but if anything when compared to other superheros, Spider-Man is KNOWN for just how many goddamn suits he has. Look at the PS4 lineup! It's absolute insanity!
And speaking of PS4, You argue that Peter in that game had a more consistent look than the MCU version How? He started with the classic suit, developed the Advanced Suit because the classic got damaged and Otto contributed his ideas, And then created the Anti-Ock by the end. The same goes for Miles actually. Starting in his hoodie, getting the pajamas, And then going to his classic. They did admittedly spend more time in their respective new suit, But that's mostly just because it's a game.
You also really over-exaggerate the overuse of the Iron-Spider, He only REALLY wore it for one film. Infinity War. He was only an Endgame for like a combined 2 minutes maybe, And it would have been weird for him to have a different one in the first place, And he only wears it in Far From Home in the opening, where he doesn't even fight anyone in it. (Using a deleted scene is pretty bad faith)
Every suit in the MCU has a good explanation for being there.
    -The Homemade was his first
-The Stark suit was a necessary upgrade for Civil War that he spent nearly the entirety of Homecoming wearing
-The Iron-Spider was so he could breathe in space
-The Stealth Suit was that his classmates didn't recognize Spider-Man in Prague after he had disappeared, which is a legitimate reason by the way after what happened in Washington.
-And the Upgraded Suit was because he didn't have access to the iron spider stark or even stealth, So he needed something new. It looking like Spider-Man didn't matter because he wasn't intending to get caught in the first place, he was going to dismantle the illusion from the inside out.
Peter wearing the Iron-Spider again in NWH makes sense because the only reason he didn't use it in Far From Home was because he didn't bring it with him. After that seemingly destroyed by Otto, He's likely going to switch to his Upgraded Suit, which eventually gets turned inside out for reasons we'll find out in the film, And eventually he has to upgrade that to the Integrated Suit, Which seems to essentially "integrate" nanotechnology with his Upgraded suit.
All of these make sense and have a purpose. And for a character that is KNOWN for having a trillion different suits for a trillion different situations, It fits like a glove.

I think this whole "iron boy" criticism is starting to lose validity. I saw the point of it and it made sense to me too in the past, but at this point I think you should accept that it is who this spider man is in the MCU and you either like it or not, but expecting it to be any different would be asking for it to be worse.
I mean, this spiderman has a story that's deeply connected to iron man, it's part of who he is, and it will always be. It's not because they cannot write a spiderman movie without having tony stark or his technology playing a role even if Tony's been dead for years. It's because Tony is an important part of who this character is. And it's also an important part of what the MCU is. It's like if you were complaining that Uncle Ben keeps being mentioned in the other Spiderman iterations.
Now, of course you have the right to dislike the MCU version because of it, because spiderman usually has a different background, a different character development, etc. And you feel this is too different from what are the elements that make you like spiderman as a character. Ok, it's fair and I get it. But this version of spider man cannot be that any more. Maybe a couple of movies ago they could've still gone that route. But now the character has gone too deep in another direction. Not mentioning Tony Stark because you want to make Peter more like he traditionally is in the comics would make less sense than having Peter always coming back to his memory. Not having access to Stark technology, wouldn't make sense for the way the universe has been built. Ditching the iron suit just so he can become "classic peter with few to no means" doesn't make sense: he has a powerful suit, which is also the legacy of a fundamental person in his life, it would be illogical for the character to suddenly ditch it.
You can like it or not, but that's who the character is, and changing him to be "more traditional" would cheapen what at this point we have to accept as his own personal arc. So hoping for them to change him in that direction, or to finally make him become more traditional, at this point I think it's just misplaced criticism.
If you don't like it, I think the better approach would be to just accept that this can no longer be the spiderman you would like, and just try to analyze him and enjoy him as his own thing. You can always state as a premise that to you, this version doesn't have the things you would like in a spiderman story, but then go on with "having said that, let's analyze what they're doing with this spiderman".
This doesn't by any means mean that this iteration of spiderman is free from criticism. It's his own thing, yes, but we can still debate whether this "thing" is being done well or not. To me, the tone of the previous movies has been too childish. And "he was in highschool, it has to be more childish" is not a valid argument to me. You get plenty of movies about young people that are not childish at all. I'm not saying they have to go with something too serious, they're still Marvel movies meant for everybody. But at least keep them to the standard of the other MCU movies, and not like they're targeted to the same audience as High School Musical. If they're planning on SpiderMan becoming more prominent, I hope they add more depth to the tones of the movies and the way they handle themes and characters.

Sorry bud, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I think the Iron Spider suit looks fantastic. Although I too wish for more examples of Peter "being broke" to be on display, there's also no reason why Peter would ever really use another suit when the Iron Spider is so strong, given by Tony. I would most certainly be questioning why Peter stopped using it if there wasn't a canon explanation. You have to understand the directors of the MCU Spider-Man movies are purposefully trying to avoid all the tropes and pitfalls of the past Sony films, which includes sticking with the original design for so long, as well as always shooting fights in the city. Even though I agree there is little practical reason for Peter to be changing suits so often, there is also no reason why he can't, if he should so want to.

So I see where you're coming from. I really do, but I really don't like this kinda strange narrative going around that kind of implies that this completely new version of Peter Parker needs to go through similar or in some cases the exact same challenges and ordeals as the previous ones. This Peter Parker is not the Sam Raimi Peter Parker. They have completely different starting points and the context for their entire lives are completely different. Aunt may is no longer an old woman. Peter goes to a stem school. Flash Thompson isn't a white guy or even a jock. MJ is a completely different character. Peters best friend is Ned and not Harry. He's basically Tony Stark's apprentice. This Peter is not like Tobey Maguire Peter. Even more exemplified by the fact that those depictions of past parkers are returning in this movie to stand alongside him. They are their own characters that have their own in universe context for becoming the people they are. I personally don't think it makes any sense for this Peter to struggle the same way those other versions did. Why does this version of Peter have to be a sad broke boy, when we already have the movies where he plays that role, and plays it incredibly well at that? Not liking how the suits look is fine cause I personally agree with you on your aesthetic opinions of some of the suits, but it makes perfect sense this Peter would still find use for the suit of his dead mentor and pseudo-father figure, but that's just my take. What do I know? Lol

Sure, the Iron Spider suit isn't the nicest to look at, but if he had just randomly stopped using it after Endgame, we would have more questions and complaints about continuity.
All they're complaining about is cohesive continuity between films and it's characters.

The tech becomes just a tool in his wheelhouse, not the core of his heroics. Plus, he showed that he was capable of defeating The Vulture on his own without the Stark tech suit.

    • @turbonerdo6838
      @turbonerdo6838 2 года назад

@@FullFatVideos "The inside out look was so contrived."
Most likely a result of the film cutting a lot of the school scenes. I'm sure the initial script had more of a focus on the secret identity and that impact, before the multiversal shenanigans were worked more in. The paint scene was trimmed to a bare minimum and comes out of nowhere. With those original scenes intact, the inverted suit would actually mean more. A visual reminder of the disdain and malice half the populace has for peter, a violation which distorts spidermans image in peoples eyes.
Yeah, it definitely was also motivated by toy sales, but the inverted suit is still very well designed, so it's not as if it ruins anything.
The same cannot be said for the integrated suit. I can most certainly agree that that's the most dissapointing aspect of the final team up, that tobey and andrew have their iconic suits and toms stuck in an inferior design. If he had designed the classic suit before that fight, it would've significantly improved how the final fight looked.
Look, I'm not gonna defend the hyper-comercialisation of blockbuster films. But it's a feature that comes with the genre. Sometimes it can be a positive effect, letting artists try out new designs that would've been otherwise overlooked in favour of what's proven to work. Sometimes it's negative, making the art being produced secondary to the products that can be generated from it. I'd prefer that multibillion dollar companies cared more about artistic integrity than making billions of dollars they don't need, but until such time I'll just hope that the artists on the project can keep coming up with good designs.
Because, even in spite of feeling that it's unnecessary to have so many suits, if every single suit looks good I don't view that as an issue. And if every single suit doesn't look good, I think that's a failure of the artists and creators working on the project, not the mass-consumerist culture which asked for the designs. It is still more profitable for these companies to sell designs which look cool, than to sell designs which aren't. So while I do agree that the Iron Spider's design is more cluttered and less iconic than the comic version, and that the Integrated suit is 100% unnecessary, I don't think that is the fault of companies just asking for toys, nor does it take away from the other designs that work well. The inverted suit, spider monkey, and stark/ upgrade suit still look very good. They make good action figures, and they also work in the context of their plots. I think far from home did a very good job at contextualising the suits. Pete needs a new suit to hide his identity in europe, or take out the drones using pete's engineering skills. This film didn't do as well with the new suits, but that final suit is still the best spiderman suit on film period, and that makes up for any shortcomings in my mind.

Totally agree about the suits, keep it as the standard or upgraded suit
On the note you make about not caring about if Spider-Man wants to make sure the villains don't die - I think this works really well, particularly because the issue arose directly as a result of him being outted as the one who killed Mysterio (even if it wasn't intended) so it's nice to see the narrative is going to carry through about wanting to not kill or send people to their deaths

One of Spider-man's things is that he will always outsmart his opponent and he will create a suit to save himself from whatever he is fighting at the time. Everytime Spider-man fights electro, he will insulate his suit, Iron Spider was to help him face off against the other Avengers, He gets a special suit to travel to the Negative Zone, hell there's Scarlet Spider, Amazing, Ultimate, Superior spider, The black suit, Captain universe.

    2. The patterns and details look really good
    3. The FFH suit is the OG red and black from Amazing Fantasy and I love it (personally my favorite suit besides the SM2 suit and the TASM suit)
Why I don’t like the suits:
    1. From movie to movie the stark suit is so damn in consistent and it annoys me. Why does it in civil war, homecoming, and infinity war had different colors of red but we go to FFH it’s back to homecoming. It’s something little but it’s annoyed me
    2. The suits were always just handed down to Peter, besides the homemade suit and some what if the FFH he never made his own suit. They were just given to him.
    3. There are so damn many suits and they are once again returning the Iron Spider suit. Can’t we just keep the FFH suit as the standard suit for the MCU?

  • @moralless1205
    @moralless1205 2 года назад +37

I agree on many parts of your argument but it feels like nostalgia is clouding your opinion. Do I believe that the new spider suits are definitely just for selling toys yes but that doesn't mean that they are irrelevant in the story, and if we are trading things with the comic version of spider he has loads of suits. In the latest runs of Spiderman his suit changes for the situation like iron man but I like that the MCU is separating the two heroes by no only their design but their use. Tony used his suits as weapons always trying to plan for the next threat ahead while Peter the less experienced hero just makes suits that will fit the function he needs them to at that specific time. Spiderman is also a comic book hero and getting children and subsequently there parents to buy movie tickets they need something to dazzle the audience at least at first view. Along with all of those ideas I do agree one trailer was more than enough the MCU is putting too much out and they realize that the plot lines are too complicated for one trailer so I'm assuming they are doubling down to make the movies more exciting to see from the trailers.

    • @moviehermit5631
      @moviehermit5631 2 года назад +1

Agreed. We’ve had multiple Spider Armours in the comics to make him bulletproof, we’ve had the ends of the earth armour for when things started to become a hit of a war zone, we’ve had the Symbiote design on a regular cloth suit, the overall structure regarding the symbols and the webbing have changed many times over the years.
And with the trailer, while I do wish I never saw it because I feel it gave away a lot of the story, it’s not the first time Marvel has hidden stuff, given scenes that are never in the movie, or stitched together 2 different scenes to make it look like certain characters are having a conversation.
And with the argument of the AMS 2 suit being designed to combat Electro, it was already rubberized before Electro even showed up. In the comics, Peter did make an insulated suit specifically to go up against Electro
I feel like Marvel has done a pretty good job incorporating the suits into the story in a logical way. And on a side note, the reason Peter dressed up as Spider-man in the final battle of FFH was because he had already left the field trip with the cover of him going visit family before the class was redirected to London. Also, it wasn’t like he was swinging around the streets with everyone seeing him. It wasn’t until the video framing Peter was released that people discovered Spider-man was even there

So what now hearing it again makes it bad? Spider-man always made fun of his villians names. And well it sounds like you just want to hate stuff now.
Again I don't wanna attack your opinion but I just felt like your video's now take on a different direction than what you usually did before. When you made a video about something you like you never went to attack anything else and just talk about the thing you like but now I feel like you talk about something just to say "oh look this is better than this". I mean when you start your guardians video with saying not having a positive video there is a problem.
I mean no way home's first trailer dropped and you talk about your concern against Doc Ock. Yeah fair
But this trailer does show you that "Yes Doc Ock isn't gonna be a direct villian. He has talks with mcu Peter that feels like they are working together. In one shot it seems like Electro attacking Doc and look you could talk about this or you could talk how story starts to shape up much more clearly and takes a weird direction(with seeing Mcu Pete does seem to try to help Doc Ock or even other villians to bring them to their universe). But no you talk about how trailer is bad because 2 bad jokes(tbh only scooby doo joke is bad)(Also about Spidey suits I feel like you have weird points like saying "Who would care if he throw the Iron Spider after endgame")
And then you had a video about what Matrix 4 and No way home is missing and well video is great but without even actually watching this movies talking about this just. I don't know it just feels like a pointless topic for now. And you could of just talk about how great their action is without comparing them to a trailer.
And then you make a great video about Sam Raimi action but for some reason you made into a semi comparison video about the Spider-men?
I didn't watch James bond so I can't say anything.
Then You made a video about Uncharted movie and you are still talking about the same thing over and over again.

I feel like he lost his touch or something. I used to agree with a lot of what his old videos, but now it is like he doesn't understand basic things anymore and is just complaining about the dumbest things (like 2 jokes im this trailer). The MCU Spiderman movies have been good and I don't get the Iron Man Jr complaint. Yes he is a lot more connected to Iron Man, but he is still Spiderman and a new take on the character. The movies are still good and keep many core elements of Spiderman. He completely failed to understand the Dr. Strange What If...? episode as well. It is honestly disappointing seeing him go down such a negative route.

I kind of agree with you, but now the Black and Gold suit has been revealed to be the Black and Red suit turned inside out as it was stained green and looked bad. And his Nano-Tech suit is worn in the bridge scene BECAUSE his suit was stained and after the Nano-Tech suit had a chunk missing from the full design and therefore I believe the suits in No-Way-Home are justified because they each have a reason to be worn, but that’s just my opinion.

  • @buccaneercat

My problem with the MCU Spider-Suits is that they’re almost always just too busy.. there’s so much going on with their design and functionality. Almost like behind the scenes they couldn’t agree on which concept suits to use, so they used something from all of them.
The Homemade Suit from Homecoming/Civil War was purposefully mostly simplistic, and was a great prototype suit design. However, they unfortunately start getting overly busier further into the MCU.
The Civil War/Homecoming suit was fairly simple for the most part, despite being loaded with interior high tech, and being made by Tony Stark.
The Iron Spider suit was nano-tech, it was covered in random pointless little blue lights, the spider on the chest was over-designed and connected to the black/blue on the back while the red spider on the back was connected to the mask/chest/shoulders, and had 4 colors overall. Plus I’m still not personally keen with how they practically made it the main go-to Spider-Suit in the MCU as he’s worn it in every appearance post Homecoming.
Then there’s the Upgraded suit from FFH which design-wise was a right step… but it’s still loaded with dozens of gadgets, and was once again 100% created by Stark Tech.
Now we have the Black & Gold suit (which is the Upgraded suit turned inside out so the busy tech design underneath is visible…), and the Integrated Suit from NWH (which should have been the Iron Spider suit).
I just wish they would have kept things simple. I wish they would have had Tom’s Peter make his own suits so they feel a lot more personal to him. I’m kinda getting tired of the double fantasy high-tech Iron Man knock off Spider-Suits chalk full of busy designs, gadgets, and 3 or more alternating colors. But that’s just my personal takeaway, I’m not saying anyone else’s opinions are invalid.

  • @donstarplayz

The black and gold suit is just the upgraded suit flipped inside out, he does it because the upgraded suit gets ruined on the outside. As for the integrated suit, I believe it’s to use more of Strange’s magic, and the iron spider is probably just to fight Doc Ock given that he two has four mechanical arms. So yeah, I think it makes sense but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Edit: (No Way Home spoilers) I was kinda right. The black and gold suit was used for the reason I gave but was way off for the others, Peter uses the Iron Spider on the bridge because he has no other suits to wear, and the Integrated Suit is just the Upgraded Suit with some nano tech on it. By the end of the movie he really only gets one new suit and which is the one he sews in his apartment

And the intergrated suit is his red and black one witg the last bits of nano tech attached which he will hopefully lose in the finale battle, and I hope the black and red is there to stay for awhile, because I also don't like him having so many different suits

Why did you even ask "Why does he still use he iron Spider suit? " and "What makes it better than the upgraded suit? ", it is better
      - Very portable (Nanotech, can be used fkr emergency situations)
      - The Iron Spider arms are also useful in taking down multiple opponents in quick succession
      - More technologically advanced and feature-heavy
The reason he still uses the Upgraded suit is probably because
      - It's way lighter

    On the iron spider suit:

  • @pickedceasar1216

But it's not the comics and people would question where the Iron Spider suit went. This universe is supposed to be more grounded in reality then the comics so I think it's pretty realistic that the heroes are constantly changing and upgrading their gear.
Also it does happen to almost every Hero in the comics as well, even Spidey, it's just more subtle and over a longer time cause they have the luxury of telling a lot more stories whereas the movies have to condense a lot of it

But what I don’t get is the criticism of a movie that hasn’t come out yet, based on what “could” go wrong. Let’s criticize it after it airs and then I can decide if I agree or not about the quality of the movie.

Or alternatively, the Far From home suit with a red Spider on the back instead of white.
The technology works. Spider-Man PS4 is the perfect blend of physical powers and abilities and technology. Something like that would be perfect.

To me, it goes to show one of the facets of Peter's personality that the MCU ignores: the fact that he's independent to a fault. One of the things that made Spider-Man unique was that he was a teenage superhero that wasn't just a sidekick. He had to figure it all out for himself. Everything from his morals and responsibilities, to building his own tech and making his own costumes. He was self-made, and all this made him a bit of a loner who didn't play well with others. In the old days, he was very reluctant to team-up or accept help from anybody. The first time he meets the Avengers after they asked him to join, he gets offended at the idea that he has to pass a test to prove himself after everything he's already done, which leads him to talking mad shit to the Avengers and getting into a brawl with half the team. Needless to say, he ended up not joining.
I actually really liked the "if you're nothing without the suit, you shouldn't have it" angle from Homecoming, and I was hoping Peter's arc in that movie would end with him refusing the fancy high-tech stuff and going back to the classic spandex suit and homemade web-shooters we all know, establishing him as his own entity, having proven to himself and others that he isn't just Iron-Boy. I was kinda disappointed when he ended up continuing to use the Stark-Tech anyway. Spider-Man having an advanced AI robot suit as his default, everyday costume just feels off to me. MCU Peter's personality in general is just very different from the character I've come to know since I was a kid.
