Hi Jake. Excellent videos! Our set up is almost exactly as you have described. We are using an analogue mixing console with an auxiliary output to the audio interface. The console was giving a little buzz so to reduce that I put a DI box just before the audio interface and it killed the buzz with the ground lift!

Having a clean HDMI signal out of a dslr is important too. Something like the Canon M50 will will send the entire display in the video where the Eos R is clean and only sends the video without the settings in the display.

Love the Video, We been Living streaming since Covid hit. We use to use ProPresentor for the Monitors for Announcements, Sermon notes. Once we decided to live stream we got a new laptop and the video works well. I think the laptop is taxed with streaming and also handling the 3 monitors for display as well as the laptop monitor itself. Would you recommend having a separate computer to handle the live stream and and one for just propresentor? Using the NDI to send the lyrics to the streaming computer?

Nice video summary. You don't necessarily need Restream. OBS only allows one destination Livestream (i.e. FB or YT, etc.). VMIX will allow 3 (FB, YT, Twitch, etc.). So you don't necessarily need Restream, if your intention is to just be able to livestream to multiple destinations. I use vMix (the HD version $350) with Easyworship6, and I just use vMix Desktop Capture to capture the Pastor's Laptop and the Easyworship PC screens as NDI/Desktop Captures.

I love your videos! I'm a former recording engineer who has been a computer tech for 25+ years now. Your videos are well laid out and packed with info!
That said, I have one question: I'm doing a streaming setup consult for a small church now. The streaming part is very straight forward, but they also want to show the live feed on TV monitors behind the choir. Would VMix be able to do this? (say as a 2nd monitor type output?) Getting a signal (HDMI extended) to the monitors is fairly easy, but I'm not sure of how to get those (secondary) monitors to show the live picture (with lyrics/slides/etc). So, I'm hoping VMix can do this. Thanks!

Hi Jake! Thanks for the helpful videos! Question: can you comment on the OBSBOT Tail AI camera for use in a church worship setting? It only has 3.5x zoom so the camera would have to be closer to the stage than a 20x PTZ camera, but assuming that’s okay, people rave about its ability to follow a subject. Seems like it could be a great option for following the preacher without having a cameraman.

As a video system integrator, while this is lowbudget based, I get it. But all things being equal, it leaves a lot to be desired. The all-in-one approach is much simpler and reduces users from getting discouraged when they don't understand the technology if this is there first time getting into this space. A NewTek TriCaster gives them everything they need in one unit, with professional results and not a huge knowledge curve. for the graphics, I think in the COVID state most are in, it makes better sense to not focus on lyrics and hymnals. Just worry about identifier lower-third graphics and maybe some fullscreen ones. All these can be made from stock templates already in the TriCaster. Recording and streaming is all built in and they can simultaneously stream to 2 applications at the same time. All they need is internet out to hit FB Live or YT, they don't need some bloated cost for streaming yet. It's better to do those apps as a starting test. Then maybe go into some other Content Delivery Network (CDN) for your streaming services. As far as cameras go, There are dozens of options here. There are also a ton of NDI native cameras now. And TriCaster can control them, even with a gaming joystick inside their program. VMix while it's a program is as difficult to master as OBS. The menu's make you mouse click to death in order to do anything. Logically it's not switcher laid out. If you have a bunch of picture icons, thats harder for a 1st time user to understand which is live now then a physical interface where you see a Program Row and a Preview Row. You always know what you're on for the live out. I realize that TriCasters are a bit more money. But cost comes with ease of setup, use, online free instructional videos and actual technical support for the user. Outside of this option would be something down and dirty like the Blackmagic ATEM MiniPro (which we have in stock and they are selling like Water) 3 inputs, can stream and record and you have the ability to import pre-made graphics from photoshop or other programs and key them live. It does not support NDI anything. However, even if you were streaming out of the unit, there is a live USB out that would look like a webcam signal for any program that could take a USB as a source input. So think, GoToMeeting, Skype, etc..

Great Video. Thank you. I currently use Ecamm Live - Record ONLY to capture video and audio, and then we live stream on Sundays. But we are about to do a fully live stream experience this weekend. We have experienced some latency on the audio, but we fixed that, now we are having audio skipping issues and we just don’t know how to fix it. Our set up is as follows: Nikon D750 to a Blackmagic Ultrastudio MiniRecorder, thunderbolted to a MacBook Pro (MacOS Catalina 8GB, 2.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 500 GB storage). The audio comes out of a Shure wireless mic connected to an iTrack Solo interface connected to the MacBook Pro via USB. If you can help me fix the audio skipping issues, that would mean the world. You should look at Switcher Studio. I haven't seen anybody talk on the Switcher Studio option. You mentioned in the video that iPhone cameras are better than the cheaper camcorder options you showed. Great video. We have been using the exact set up you spoke of - both hardware and software on a Mac. Only difference, and this is what I’m curious about, is we have the X32 with an audio line out to 1/8” and that is feeding into a Canon G20 and then hdmi out into Blackmagic and into Ecamm Live. The hdmi is then providing the video and audio. You seem to be talking about running audio directly into the computer...is that via usb? Is that to be preferred to the way we have been doing it. We have had some audio slightly out of sync with the video the past couple of weeks as we get further into the service, and so I came across your video as I was trying to solve that issue. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. - Jamie from CrossPointe Winter Park

So, we just give our techs a pair of headphones and do the best we can but it's not always the best mix. What are your thoughts and recommendations? I’m an audio guy first and foremost, put I to a position needing to do video now lol. We currently have a sling studio we are wanting to move away from. We have a Mac mini for stream and looking at a Ross carbonite black solo for video switching. We have restream already, do I need either an H.264 or ultra studio before the computer? Do I need a streaming software like ecamm on top of restream? Thanks

Hi! Thanks for the video! One question. I have a atem mini switcher by blackmagic design. Aside from switching cameras, how does the capture device differ than the atem mini?

Hey Jake, I appreciate your help. Our setup is a little different. We are running a MBP for Pro-presenter for lyrics we have a separate Mac we are running Ecamm our X32 inputs mix using logic to mix.
    Any pointers for :
#1 Routing the audio from Logic into Ecamm on the same computer?
#2. Getting the lyrics from PP7 to Ecamm on a separate computer.

Hi Jake, Great video. Is it best to record the audio from the sermon in camera (via a lav mic) or via a mic going into the mixer? If the latter, how do you ensure the audio of the sermon is synced to the video? Cheers

Hey Jake.We use MediaShout for our presentations. I know you didnt mention in this video. My question is MediaShout compatible for this set up?

Hi Pastor Joel. Looked at MediaShout's webpage and I don't see anything regarding NDI. As such, I'm afraid it may not be compatible with this set up. Blessings!

Yes it will. you have to use obs. Then sources in a created scene. then display Capture. then select the screen with the full screen lyrics, messege etc. and it will work

What are your thoughts on the Elgato HD60 capture unit?
We have this and we are running that on a Dell Latitude 5401 Laptop right now (soon to be custom-build PC - as I fortunately work in IT myself)
    And budget camcorder...
