I own a BMW with a B58 engine in it. I’m no BMW fan boy, this is actually my first BMW. BMW knows how to make a proper inline 6 engine, make it sound good, and then hook it up to an exceptional automatic transmission. They also understand balance and how to make a car a 50/50 weight distribution, which gives you predictable oversteer that helps to get you through a corner exit. IMO, what they need a little work in is suspension tuning and I heard that was one of the things Toyota worked extensively on. They also took a fairly bland Z4 styling and gave it an “it” factor. They need some help with that too.
@@eduardocastillo8611 Not the point. It's about driver engagement. Some of us don't care about tenths of a second shifts. The car's already fast, a 6 speed manual isn't gonna ruin that. But, to blindly hate on this car as a capable sportscar without even experiencing it is ridiculous. Furthermore, is it really so bad to have a BMW performance car, tuned to the standards of Toyota, sold as a Toyota price point? It's really the best of both worlds. And to those doubting the B58, the aftermarket support is already blowing up for this thing, showing the ability to create 600 whp with bolt on parts. After leasing two BMW’s back to back, I left the brand last year because they stopped offering a manual transmission in the 3 Series. My first BMW was a manual, 328i, M Sport. The second was an automatic M235i with the same automatic transmission in the SupraI was initially seduced by the quick shits and incredible ease of speed in that car. After about six months, I missed having a manual. 2.5 years later when my lease was up, I “down graded” to a Civic Si with a manual transmission. I went from a $48k car with 320hp to a $27k car with 205hp. My payment is less than half of what is was for the BMW and I don’t miss the car at all. The Civiv Si feels fast even at slow speeds. With all the traffic in Tampa, I rarely get over 70mph. The BMW was a beast from 50-150mph. In the real world, not much could keep up with it unless you were on a track. My advice is, be careful committing to an automatic car if you have always enjoyed or wanted a manual.
The only people complaining about this car are the people that either wouldn’t have, or couldn’t have bought it(specifically new). I’d wager almost none of them have driven it, even for 20 minutes at the dealership under their supervision. Most probably haven’t seen it in person, done any real research on it, or thought about how their whining will only make it less likely for Toyota(and BMW) to be able to make the cars they expect in the future. The worst part is witnessing how much passion the Toyota engineers and executives have for the car they brought to market.
"Someone is fibbing...and im okay with that!!" Made me laugh. Great review. This car needs more reviews like yours. I believe outside of the manual aspect, it's better than the old gen in just about every way factory for factory.
This could be the Greatest collab ever!! Toyota is like were outselling everyone so lets just team up..toyota have no competition 4 real..the mash up with SUBARU was a SUCCESS
Good review and you stated a lot of good points, ones I have stated myself. Is it perfect no, but fun absolutely. It is like the previous Supra of course not, no car that comes out now will be anything like the previous models, to stay fresh and competitive by staying in the past and not evolving and pushing forward? Yeah that doesn't work. Like you said be careful what you wish for, let's just enjoy these kind of cars while we still can especially since the industry as a whole seems to be all about trucks, suvs, and crossovers.
Do you think Toyota, an Asian car maker, deserve the partnership with the European? GR86 are made by Subaru, an Asian car maker, but no body pit them against each other
New subscriber here. Congratulations on your consistently great, concise and honest reviews. Your knowledge is vast and impressive! I am actually looking at purchasing a 2020 Supra this week! All the reviews are amazing indeed. It would be in addition to the 2019 JCW MINI Countryman with 6 speed MANUAL :-D that is my daily drive (which although very different is also a great car). Just a small FYI, it's not a "headS up display" but rather a "HEAD up" display. Looking forward to more great reviews :- )
Hi Brian! Thanks for joining the Raiti's Rides family! You are going to love your new Supra and I think you have one heck of a dream garage! Thanks foe the extra info!
For a moment, it looked liked you hit the G-force if you know what I mean! Despite the controversy with its origins, seems to be a great driving sports car.
I love the car. After seeing it up close in person I would like to have one. I also watched a video where buddy was saying you could make the vents functional, but it’ll take way too much time and cutting into the body just not really worth it. That youtuber broke it down pretty good. On another note I love the sound it makes when you rev it a bit.
For everyone bashing on the Supra having an Automatic only transmission....Toyota isn't a charity, automatic sells. Also, MKV is designed for track use too...so automatics dominate here and help the driver focus on the road. Plus, for those who want a manual option, it opens up business for small aftermarket companies like EAG for can do the manual swaps. Its a W for all.
If you see Supra in the rear three quarters you will see BMW Z4-E86 Coupe. Look again you will see similarities in the rear section where the bulging rear haunches start and the even the ducktail spoiler the rear lights and all very much hiding an E86 Z4 coupe there. When Toyota launched this Supra they said they left those air vents blanks for the after-market players. Actually, the age-segment of this Supra buyer likes to mod it as per their desire. Just like you see every year Apple release an iPhone and along with comes a million of attachment products right from the beginning. So Toyota seems to involve with some aftermarket suppliers. Just a thought!
I don't get why people hate on toyota for making having fake vents. They clearly stated at launch that the fake vents can be deleted for tuning. It's like all the reviewers just ignore this statement.
If I'm not mistaken all of the fake vents are removable. Toyota said about they're giving their MkV Supra drivers an opportunity to tune the car and I think it have something to do with that. But It's still a zonk though because they should just leave it open as it would cause the drivers to do additional unnecessary job on tuning it.
Honestly, people really shouldn't care about the partial BMWness of this car. BMW has made some incredible cars with some incredible engines, and the B58 quite frankly is one beast of an engine. Very well suited for the new Supra. Its robust, reliable and its very good quality. Heck, people say the engine can easily handle over 1000 horsepower, there are some people that have already put that much horsepower into it already! The two cars are unique enough to be different. I give credit to Toyota and BMW for making their respective cars look completely different-The only exterior similarity are the mirrors. Other than that, they're completely unique and there's almost no way you would know they were related by just looking at them. Also, with all the fake vents on the car, it may be an indication of what's to come. Anyone sensing TRD Supra vibes..? In my opinion, the new Supra continues a legacy. People need to stop hating on this car. Its still incredibly tunable, (Toyota designed it that way, after all!) it still has a robust inline-6 engine, even if it was co-developed with a different brand, it's still rear wheel drive, and its still ready to give you a driving experience worth remembering. BUT, IT NEEDS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I would ramble on more but this is getting a bit lengthy, haha.
Hmm...now I’m torn...gunna have to test drive this to figure it out. 2020 Mustang GT Premium or the 2020 Supra 3.0 Premium. Which one do you like better?
I’ve seen one at a dealership but not on the road yet! It’s smaller in person than I thought it would be. I was N owner of an 84 Supra and an 86.5. Then they got way out of my price range. 4 kids to raise and all the bills associated with a big family.
I feel like the only thing missing from your reviews are a demonstration of headlights/taillights as it's nice to see LEDs in action for some cars. Love your videos though. ALSO, WE NEED A HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL VIDEO FROM YOU.
Its a good car...for a BMW. Not Japanese in any realm so the Supra name is misplaced. And people need to stop calling this a JDM legend. The MKIII is a JDM legend The MKIV is a JDM legend. This is a German Austrian product. Check the parts list from country of origin lol! 0% from Japan. This car will be remember as a failed attempt at a revival. All us Supra owners were ready to drop $75k on a decent Supra so a higher price in-house one would have been ideal. Now we are looking to buy C8 Stingrays and the rumored higher trim C8s later on with the flat plane crank and twin turbos.
U say all of us lol. Yea like what happened to the nsx? Where were they when they said that? And if Toyota made it themselves for 75k plus mark up you wouldn't see the same amount of people buying them now and they might aswell get a M4 or a 911 in the process since it'll get walked by evertone in that price range.
This car is awesome! I don't care it lacks a manual. So does the C8 Corvette and I want thus car way more than that! It can't run with a C8 but that's okay. It's a Porsche Cayman fighter for less money. As long as it proves reliable, I can see myself in one in a few years.
Another great review. I like the new GR Supra but not a fan of the BMW DNA. BMW makes great drivers cars too but I feel iconic cars should not share too many components, especially engine. However, it's true cars can't be built like they did 10-20 years ago due to strict emissions and safety laws. So if anyone wants an iconic car then it's best to buy the car you want of that era.
That't the thing. There IS no BMW DNA. It may have BMW ANDDD OTHER MANUFACTURER parts, LIKE EVERY OTHER CAR, but it drives like what Toyota wants the new Supra to drive like. Toyota DNA, miscellaneous parts. Look at it that way instead. Logic.
@@sunrisesunset1734 well to me if it has 90% bmw parts it has BMW DNA. It may drive like what to gu ota wanted but there's only so much they can do to try and differentiate the feel from its sister car the Z4. At the end of the day it's the z4m coupe that BMW did not want to build but Toyota delivered instead.
@@mrjjthor What I mean is, DNA is your ESSENCE. It may have 90% BMW parts, but feels 100% Toyota. Or maybe soul is the word i'm looking for. 100% BWW parts, 100% Toyota soul. Only possible if Toyota put it together.
@@sunrisesunset1734 I'd have to disagree. To be fair I've never driven the Supra before but there are many who says it feels different from the the Z4 and others who say it feels like the Z4 or a BMW. I saw it in person and it looks great. Sitting inside it feels very BMW. Also bmw makes great drivers car and toyota has lost that touch for a long time. Imo I think it's a BMW that Toyota gave an M soul to if that makes sense?

@@RaitisRides my only problem is it's too much BMW and Toyota could at least need the extra effort to hide those BMW badges underneath the hood and did more with the interior I think they were just being too lazy

Toyota needs to upgrade all of their steering wheels, but the Supra is incredible to me.
Beautiful camera set up on the drive. Very The Smoking Tire style. Hope you have a buddy on the Highway Patrol unit though, lol.
Thanks for letting me share it with you! I actually do! ;-)
This could be the Greatest collab ever!! Toyota is like were outselling everyone so lets just team up..toyota have no competition 4 real..the mash up with SUBARU was a SUCCESS
So very true.
GR86 are made by Subaru, an Asian car maker, but no body pit them against each other
Great review, points out the good and the bad without being biased.
Thanks for saying that and letting me share tis one with you!
This is the one I was waiting for. The Supra is shedding that old skin and has morphed into a razor like handling missle.
I am so glad that I could bring it to you!
This Toyota Supra is more similar to the Mark 4 than anything else. Straight-six engine balance. What really matters, people really don't think about.
I totally agree with you!
My dream sportscar! Amazing video Joe.
Thanks for the awesome review always bring the best to the table congrats amigo..
Twisty bits are the highlight 😎
I saw one of these on the road yesterday and it looked awesome!!!
You are so right about that Brendon!
Great video. I’m absolutely loving my Supra, it’s a blast to drive.
Thanks for saying that! Congrats on your Supra!
The vents aren't fake, they can be removed for extra cooling if the power is increased.
Drove one today, dealer had a crazy 30k markup... I’d love the car but not at 87 k
Another thing, the vents are all in the right places by design, simply closed off, because it's not a race-car...
It doesn't need to be a race car to be functional though.
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
You’re best video...
Supra looks so fun!
Thanks Jon! It was a blat!
I dont have a problem with it! I just want to see how it holds up!!
AGREED!
I’m torn. What car in your opinion did you like better. Supra or scat pack widebody. Both are about same in price. Great reviews
I would go Supra!
Thanks for your honesty.
Thanks for your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I appreciate you watching!
Been waiting for the full review on this one!
I hope it was worth the wait!
Mid $50k for this car is not too shabby. This vehicle looks pretty zonk free to me. Another excellent video!!!
That’s one of the best looking new cars mate 🎄🍻🥃👍
I totally agree with you Warren!
DukeDynamics is currently designing an ft1 bodykit for the a90 supra
That sounds SO nice when accelerating! And Vin Diesel isn't under the hood! LMAO!
Thanks for letting me share this Supra with you and the laughs!
Joe let know if you review the 2020 Toyota Highlander what you think is better Hyundai Pallisades or the Highlander!
Here you go:

I am going Palisade.
@@RaitisRides thanks buddy
Awesome review, joe does such good reviews! Love the energy, honesty and narrative. Great review sir!
Great honest review Joe! This car just made the top of my list! Gunna test drive the 2021!
I don't get why people hate on toyota for making having fake vents. They clearly stated at launch that the fake vents can be deleted for tuning. It's like all the reviewers just ignore this statement.
You don't just pop them out and you are good to go.
Great video Joe and Tom.
Thanks Kenneth for letting me share it with you!
You would have to do some cutting but yeas they can be made functional. For $50k they should already come that way.
Another great review. Keep them coming!
Is the Supra a one year car? Or will it be here to stay? Also at first I didn’t like it, but the more I see it the better it gets..
As of now it is here to stay.
I'd say it depends as on sales. So far it's doing ok but I wouldn't say it's selling like hotcakes.
Great test drive. Supra time raiti
Thanks Korey! I appreciate you letting me take you for a ride! If it wasn't for me wanting the GT350 so badly I would be all over it.
Nice sound on that Supra Joe.. Rolling like a Champ🙏
Thanks for letting me share the drive with you!
I’ve seen one at a dealership but not on the road yet! It’s smaller in person than I thought it would be. I was N owner of an 84 Supra and an 86.5. Then they got way out of my price range. 4 kids to raise and all the bills associated with a big family.
I can totally understand where you are coming from.
best supra review!!!
Thanks for saying that it really means a lot!
Never seen you so enthusiastic and enjoying the actual driving more! I’m going to test drive one when the end of the world is over ;)
I feel like the only thing missing from your reviews are a demonstration of headlights/taillights as it's nice to see LEDs in action for some cars. Love your videos though.
ALSO, WE NEED A HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL VIDEO FROM YOU.
Hey joe I just bought a backpack from ur website i cant wait to get it on the 26th i love the vids man
Thank you Israel! That really means so much! We can't do it without your support!
No problem joe great vids and I hope I get to meet you at a show 1 day lol.
Sounds like the supra is one of your fav cars bro haha! Cool video
It's up there for me!
Been waiting for you to review this.
Trust me so have I! Thanks for watching!
Agree with you a 100% about what we wish for. Like you said, anything now would be exorbitant pricey.
Is it really that good or did you have a Red Bull before the test drive?
IT is that freaking good!
Its a good car...for a BMW. Not Japanese in any realm so the Supra name is misplaced. And people need to stop calling this a JDM legend.
The MKIII is a JDM legend
The MKIV is a JDM legend.
I wouldn't call it a JDM legend but it has some amazing performance that is for sure.
Awesome drive Joe, Love it!
Thanks Brent! I really appreciate you saying that!
This car is awesome! I don't care it lacks a manual. So does the C8 Corvette and I want thus car way more than that! It can't run with a C8 but that's okay. It's a Porsche Cayman fighter for less money. As long as it proves reliable, I can see myself in one in a few years.
I am so glad that you like this one.
Thanks for your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
After this video I'm really considering trading in my 2018 STI.
I know how you feel! I just wish it had a manual.

Hey joe what are your thoughts on doing some used car reviews? I think it would be cool to see some cars from the past on your channel 👍🏻
I do them for time to time. I guess it just depends on the vehicle and what I have access to. I am game for anything. Any particular ones you would want to see.
@@RaitisRides old JDM cars of the 80s-90s and of course muscle cars!!
I used to have a 2012 Chevy Colorado (older body style) would just love to hear your thoughts about it. Didn’t have a lot of features for a 2012 model, considered it to be more like an old school pickup truck 💪🏻
I have not seen you this happy driving a sports car
I have been happier in a GT350 but this is a very close second.
I’m thinking that’s a vehicle you should buy! You really liked it!
Thanks Robert! I also like the the Shelby GT350!
Hey Joe do you think a novice but responsible driver could handle a car with this level of performance? Or is it out of my league?
Been driving a 240 horsepower i4 turbo car since 2015 and I feel it’s time to upgrade.
I think it is totally manageable. I say go for it!
Awesome review Joe ! How much HP would you say it has ?!
Thanks Stephen! I would say close to 400 HP.
Raiti's Rides just watched this a 2nd time. 😳. What an awesome experience! I’ll tell you, in about 4-5 years Ill be looking to get into an excellent condition low mileage C6 Grand Sport (2011-2013) w. a manual transmission NOW after watching this review a 5 year old Supra may be in the running !! Awesome review Joe!!
Been waiting for this, nice review Mr. Raiti!!
Thank you sir! I am glad it was worth the wait!
Why Zonk the 4 calipers when you say they’re up to the task? Love the enthusiasm when you’re driving it. I’m going to have a walk down temptation road and go to the dealership for an up close visit.
They were really good but could always be better! ;-) The temptation will be strong!
People said the ft1 would be too expensive to make and would cost close to 100k. So how in the hell did Chevy make a mid engine Corvette for 60k?
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective. I really appreciate you watching.
that's why I was saying general motors debunked Toyota's claim because Toyota is a big company and general motors is a small company and the mid-engine sports car is very expensive to makejust imagine if general motors would have rolled out the new Corvette saying that it was a Ferrari underneath a lot of people would have been pissed
@@RaitisRides my only problem is it's too much BMW and Toyota could at least need the extra effort to hide those BMW badges underneath the hood and did more with the interior I think they were just being too lazy
If it was called something else. It would not get any hate. Nonetheless, it’s still a great car.
It is one heck of a performer!
Raiti I got a big one for you I want to see the CTS/V pedestal Edition, last year production 2019 .....650 something horsepower please see if Clearwater Cadillac will let you sit in this one it’s a very hot one on the market and I want to see you review it
I will try to get that together for you!
Great review!
Thanks John for letting me share it with you!
Mane I like this car a lot, but unfortunately money wise you could get a Mustang GT for around same price with more HP and features. Hopefully when the second generation of the Mk5 comes out it’ll bring more to the table.
There will be Supras and C8’s going for the same price soon. I think it takes a die hard Supra fan to choose the Supra over a mid-engine,supercare-esque, speed demon that is the C8.
The Corvette C* will cost more after the first year.
IMO, the Supra looks alot better than the c8 Corvette.
@@4ft3rburn3r I don't think so the c8 looks better inside and out then the Supra
Raiti's Rides yes but at most it will be 63-65k. The Supra in future years will also go up also
@@eduardocastillo8611 Have you seen the rear end of the C8? What was GM thinking?
