Ireland - still the only independent Celtic nation, and yet apparently unable to put the effort into its language: compare that to Welsh - 1600 years of the Saes trying to wipe it out, and now Welsh Medium Schools are a government policy, with more and more of those being opened. Get your act together.

It's a shame, I went to English medium schools at both primary and secondary level and while the language is mandatory I learnt more teaching myself than in all the time I spent in school, I'm almost fluent now I'd like to believe, but the way it's taught makes it a chore to learn for students which makes them resent the language. There's too much focus on literature when the kids cant even speak the language, its like showing an Indonesian poem to a Frenchman and asking him to write about its intricacies. The government doesn't care about the language because there's no monetary benefit to reviving it, so people have to rely on private organisations, which has just made the language seem pompous and middle class to people who cant afford to go to the private institutions, which is the exact opposite of what it used to be before. It's just a bad situation made worse by a neglectful government.
Edit: Just as a final note, the situation with the teaching of the language is so bad that I didn't even know that letters were pronounced differently in school because my teachers never covered it and they were unfamiliar with the sounds too, so teachers that don't know how to pronounce words teach the next generation which then go off to teach it wrong again, it's disgraceful the state of the education system here.

It’s a dying language sadly, very few speak it as a first language and those who still do are mostly older people. It’s still taught in schools but you wouldn’t believe how few people speak it
@@Festyboy21 it seems to be getting more popular irish schools are flying up in Dublin and I know at least 10 family’s who speak it solely at home. I’m 5 years out of secondary and will still speak to my friends from school in Irish if I see them and a lot of my year do the same

As someone who has 3 sons who have gone to lurgan, I'm afraid you really have no idea. Lurgan is passionate in promoting Gaeilge, making sure the students learn the language in a fun way ie... through music, sport, social interaction etc. They made friends for life!
The songs are translated and all the students learn them. No limelight...just making the language 'cool' and fun. So much work went into this! No need for negative comments.
Someone will always knock enthusiasm and innovation! Sad!
Keep your native roots alive with music and passed down stories. Give our Sons and Daughters the Pride they deserve.

I'm not fluent....but I am getting there. BTW, the language is called IRISH (when speaking english) and Gaeilge (when speaking Irish), not Gaelic. Gaelic is the culture, which includes the language but is not solely the language, of the Gaelic people (Ireland, Isle of Man, Newfoundland, and Scotland).

I'm watching a lot of Irish music videos and I've realised how amazing Irish is and what others think of it. It really makes me proud of our language and for being able to understand it. Thanks to this channel for making these videos!
Listening to these videos, no matter who you are, makes you stronger in body, spirit, mind and beautiful! You also can’t help singing, dancing, smiling, sharing and loving~kindness and diversity! Diversity, which apparently is one of God’s most favorite things because God filled the world full of it, and gave us the ability to be so creative ourselves, is a key to our happiness and peace of mind until we meet God face to face (or bow and cover our face).
The future of our country is in safe hands. I love all the kids and young people I know, they are so bright and intelligent and just awesome. We don't know how lucky we are!!!

What a strange and wonderful language that makes anything sound beautiful. I’m a proud descendent of Irish on my father’s side. His dad in heaven as my guardian angel saved my life many times. Full blooded Irish Catholic man, I’m so sorry I only knew him in infancy, but blessed for that much. He gave me enough unconditional love to last me and save my life. The Dept of Education is not helping the Irish language to survive.. Doesn't even teach Kids their names in Irish anymore.. We all knew ours growing up and were proud of it. Even the foreign kids loved their Christian names to be translated.. BUT NO MORE.. I FULLY BLAME THE DEPT AND GOVERNMENT for their complacency... We are going to lose our language if its left up to them..

This music is AMAZING, and I've noticed in the comments on a lot of these videos about how you love the youth keeping the language alive, and talk about the saviors of the country. You treat your language like a living soul..it's amazing I'm definitely going to research more about it
as a father of seven children, here in Canada, i have taught my children the importance of their roots, their hero, a young fifteen year old Irish lad from county poles who had the courage to cross the pond in 1815...it is from this stock we come, it is from this language we spoke and will speak again...thank-you from my soul.

Brilliant lads. It's because of people like ye that the beautiful language which we are so proud and lucky to call our own still survives. The Irish language will not die out because we have people who are willing to fight to save it. We need to start recognising the true wonder of our culture.

@@arklowscooterteam9943 We say Gaidhlig (Scottish Gaelic) as opposed to Scots which is a separate language spoken in Scotland, Gaelg (Manx Gaelic) spoken in the Isle of Man, or Gaelge (Irish Gaelic). Gaelic, when speaking of languages, refers to the grouping of 3 different languages.

They sing with such passion, I think a lot of these songs sound better in Gaelige than they do in English. If you have heard Imagine Dragons "Believer" it sounds like it was meant to be Gaelige.
