Chuaigh an t-úafás oibre agus réiteach isteach sa bhfíseán ceoil seo agus tá súil againn go dtaitneoidh sé libh
Fáinne fí i gcoim na hoíche.
(Níl) 'tada riamh nach mbíonn thart.
Diabhail fhios a'm cá bhfuil deireadh mo scéil
Ach táim ar an mbealach ceart.
Deir siad liom gan a dhul sa tseans,
Nach dtagann ciall roimh aois.
Bhuel 'sé m'aistear é, Ní léir cén fhad a mhairfidh sé,
'Sé togha ar aon chaoi.
So Lig mé saor ón suan 'tá orm.
(Tai)speáin 'om bóthar éasca cothrom.
Bainfidh mé ceann scríbe amach, sí m'aidhm,
Cíbe treo átá i ndán.
(Tá) Mé ag iompar úalach mór an tsaoil
Ach níl a'm ach péire lámh.
Suile troma is an ghrian a dhul faoi
Ach ní chodlaíonn mé go sámh.
"Bris amach agus tú fós sach óg."
Chinnigh mé le dul in aghaidh.
Seo mo ré, Seasfaidh mé an fód,
'S leanfaidh mé ar aghaidh.

Almost 3 years since this has been released and it has taught more people and children As Gaeilge in 10 minutes than what a school has in 6 years, this song is a perfect example that future generations really don't hate the language, they just hate how the schools are teaching it, simple as.
Horseyboy13 tà tu ceart
Oh fhios agam, conas atá tú?
Horseyboy13 tà mè go fionntach
Exactly!! I'm doing my Leaving Cert rn, and I had to drop to pass Irish last year I just couldn't handle the copious amount of notes. It was ridiculous, the amount of learning crap of by heart, without knowing what it even meant. I love Irish so so much, and it breaks my heart how many people hate it, due to how awfully it's taught to us.
go maith, go maith
This song: *exists*
Every primary school in Ireland:
Hippity hoppity this song is now my property.
Like exactly.
Mate, your so right we had to do it and I didn't open my gob
So true my school is doing it lol and they put random words in it
xD
The ones who do all irish schools: rickedy roll i now yeet your soul
I never thought I would see young kids like this singing popular songs in Irish. Nor singing with such enthusiasm. What a beautiful thing this is. My mother would roll in her grave with happiness. Long live the best Irish language teacher ever: LIsa MItchell, who lived in Ceathru, Dun Chaoin, Dingle, County Kerry.
I understand exactly 0% of this, but I still love it. Keep Irish Gaelic alive and well, m'dudes
It's not Gaelic it's Gaeilge or just Irish
Wow, I didn't know Darth Plageus was concerned about endangered languages!
Its wake up
So you've never heard the original song before...?? 🤔🤔😂 (jk but like-lol)
From the Australian part of the Irish Diaspora: keep the language alive and current. That is the best way to keep Irish culture alive and current.
12 years of learning Irish in school, this actually makes it worth it. Haha.
I'm 44 and that's the best learing ever :-) love it,
And yet you right your comment in English,
*And yet, you WRITE your comment in English* If you're going to try to be smart, then learn to spell correctly.
The Irish Lad You're the one who boasts about learning 12 years of Irish in school, If you learned it go use it than,
The Irish Lad tosser
RIP Avicii. Las tú tine faoi chúis na Gaeilge i ngan fhios dhuit féin. Go raibh míle maith a'at agus suaimhneas síoraí ar d'anam.

As a welsh speaker i love their covers. They just have a little something special about them also trying to promote the irish language just like the welsh do. Da iawn. Bendigedig xxx
Thanks from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 your country Wales voted in favour of Brexit😏
Do you know of any channels that do welsh covers?
nice to say...'
As an Irishman I love it
I love it as a cornish speaker, there's probably more people in this video than I have ever seen cornish speakers in one place.
LOVE IT! It's better in Irish :) Keep your national language a life.
Greetings Irish brothers from Slovenia!
This kid has a great voice! I can actually hear the words and now prefer the Gaeilge version! Using these to help my kids learn Irish!
Kid??? The lead singer is a member of the faculty at this language immersion course. He is also the lead singer of the group "Seo Linn"... They only perform in the Gaeilge language and are quite popular...
I am a granny! He is the same age as my kids! ;-)
And has amazing talent. :)
Keep the Irish alive! Just like I'm doing! I went to a Irish primary school and now I'm in Irish secondary! I'm so proud to be able to speak this language!
Bridget Seritt this kid is actually the teacher 😂
I love those Irish cover versions. I haven`t heard anyone speaking Irish casually in Leinster in the last 10 years.
Man I remember those days when we had to sing this song during 2013 Seachtain Na Gaeilge. I was in Senior Infants. I miss my primary school. ;(
I'm from Poland, and I love Gaeilge :D Irish language is the best ! :D
ya mé na hÉireann agus a éasca sin a fhoghlaim cé go bhfuil mé ó iarthar na hÉireann mar sin a thagann sé mar an dara cineál !!! :)(ya I'm Irish and its so easy to learn although I'm from the west of Ireland so it comes as a second nature)
It is so wonderful to see young people embrace their culture and language. Well done all.
Wake Me Up is my favorite song of all time. I am American, I am not Irish. I do not speak Irish. But I love the Irish spin on this song. They made the melody sound so Irish. I wish I had discovered this sooner.
Guarda che è l'originale
It's funny that this has more views than the population of the island of Ireland
You didnt have to go that low, 😭
Good music can be appreciated by other people than native speakers. Playing this in the kitchen of a Welsh-speaking family in Penarth, south Wales
omg i never noticed that

+Paintball enthusiast I feel you. I'm in Aus. Have been for about 8yrs now, haven't been back since. Just know, it does get easier. All the Irish pubs help aswell. Put on a bit of Christy and you'll feel like your home in no time.
***** Feel the exact same. I got married to an Aussie and have a 4yr old now as well. But I want to be where I belong.
Ye can take the Irishman out of Ireland, but never the Ireland out of the Irishman.
@Paintball enthusiast we'll go home then of stop fucking crying about it.
Aye
Irishness has been a major part of my whole life. Born and raised in England, my mother's side of the family have had firm Irish roots that has been a major part of my upbringing. I went to Ireland for the first time in October and loved every second of it. It was like going home.
Love it..as an older Inishmore person I wish something like this was around when I was learning Irish
I wish us Scots did something like this for our language. Great job!
Stewart Mackay , I found an old BBC program on RUclips called "Speaking Our Language". It is taking me a while, but it's a good start. Ciamar a tha sibh?
You can...be a leader and do it and you will be surprised how many will follow you!
Why not?
When a language dies out, then the culture goes with it.

Gaelic just makes everything better! Learning scots gaelic at the moment, irish is next 😁😁🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I think the Irish are just beautiful looking and I find them fascinating. I have some American Irish friends and just love them so very much. Good hearts and souls and oh, my, can they drink me under the table.
wow thanks
You are so welcome. I hope that you are receptive to all the good the world has to offer. Yep, the Irish (Celtic) folks have a very rich culture and I only know a tiny bit. I think I will look into it further. Very interesting language also.

Oh trust me, they use it in my school lol
I wasn’t this in school lmao
I can not say how much I adore this. Image all cultures would show themselfs like this. No bombs, no guns, no wars, simply a celebration of your own unique beeing.
Best ambassodors for Ireland, love it
I can not understand how it is possible that at present the Irish language is minority in its native land. You, as Irish, are lucky to have this treasure that you must keep alive. As I always say, the best way to maintain and defend a living language is speaking it as possible. Congratulations on this great version of this Avicii's song. Greetings of a Spaniard who loves your language and his own (Valencian / Catalan).
Monstervill History more or less answers your question, when the British took total control of Ireland in the late 1500s and early 1600s they introduced a set of laws called the penal laws that more or less outlawed anything Irish. The language was forbidden and owning land or gaining an education was ilegal for catholics. Despite this Irish was still widely spoken, then the Irish potato famine hit, the hardest hit areas were Irish speaking regions, the language literally died off and many other native speakers left for America. Those that remained in Ireland viewed Irish as a language of the poor after this and stopped teaching their kids the langauge. It was only in the early 1900s when irish nationalists started trying to start an Irish revival, as they believed to win true freedom from Britain was to reclaim our culture, that interest in the language grew again, once Ireland gained independence many schemes were introduced and funding given to the language, however unfortunately it might be too little too late.
Today, casually I have read about you have explained, for this reason I have remembered this page with versions of songs in Irish and I found my 3 years old comment and your answer haha. I guess that it could be useful trying that schools used the Irish like a main language since the first years, this could let you obtain new natural speakers. I believe that It may NOT be too late, for example, in Israel was revived a dead language (Hebrew) and now is spoken by 8 milions of people, you only should have hope. I appreciate your irish history lesson!! Go raibh míle maith agat!!
@@CianMcsweeney Blaming people who died many centuries ago is no excuse for

Hi... We're learning this at Gaeilge class in South Australia! Pretty cool.
Tá brón orm/Tha mi duilich... I can't write Irish very well. (Tha 'n Gàidhlig orm.) But I do love listening to this song... I'm not usually keen on pop music but I make an exception when it's in Irish or Gaelic!
😮

This is so encouraging to see young Irish people keeping the language alive, there is hope!
I absolutely love this song. My parents sent me to a French primary school Instead of an Irish one. Although I am now fluent in French, for a long time I felt like I didn't have an Irish nationality, even though my school was in Ireland. I think the best way to make irish popular again is singing these sort of songs. It's awesome and everyone loves these songs. Keep doing what you're doing, Lurgan!! Xxxx
Níl sé ródhéanach! Is í do theanga fosta!
This is beautiful. It's how you keep a language alive😍😍 I wish they could do something like this with the Welsh language...
I love this song whoohoo
im irish and i love it and i love to be bless anyone that is too also anyonewho reads dis
I wish schools did a better approach in teaching the language. I'm from limerick myself and my Irish is better than most but still terrible. You'd think after we finished school we'd know the language by now..I know Swedish people who are fluent in English after 3 years... The way they teach it makes students hate it. Of course I don't speak for strictly Irish speaking schools. I have a question to people in the Gaeltacht, how would ye change the way Irish is thought throughout Ireland?
There is a lot of talk about it, particularly in secondary schools. Students need to give their opinion on it, and suggest how it is taught, because they are the ones learning it. Personally, I think it is too serious.
In 4th class we learned this and sang it in front of the school and parents. For our Christmas plays we always add a Irish song into them. I'm in secondary and they do nothing.

To quote genealogist John Grenham "...the Irish we were taught in school was not a language like French or German, a medium of communication. It was a form of advanced obedience training, a series of phenomenally complicated grammatical hoops to be jumped through." ...
Lukes TFitz I think the classes in secondary school should be divided whereby 2 classes a week are strictly Irish speaking classes .. no poetry nothing , almost as if you go to the gaeltacht for 2 classes a week and the other classes in the week should be for the stuff like poetry etc. however the primary school teaching of Irish should be taught just like a language such as French/Spanish are thought in secondary , primary school Irish teaching is a disgrace
So many beautiful, charming, joyful young faces! So fine performance!) Thank you, guys! Mo grá thú Éire!
Keep your beautiful culture alive and embrace it. Love from 🇲🇽.
God bless the Celtic people and may their language live on for ever without interference from england. Shout it loud and shout it proud the Gaelic language is not dead.

I left Ireland when I was 4 but I've always grown up with gaelige around me so it seems so natural. I used to find English really hard at school because I wasn't used to it. I've been brought up speaking so many languages that sometimes I feel so lonely because none of my friends can talk to me in a language I feel more myself in such as gaelige.

This video is just so brilliant! Whoever filmed/edited it was a genius - because every scene is captivating. The performance of the song is wonderful - it's probably my favourite song ever, and I'd rather like those nice Seo Linn people to sing it at my funeral! - but the video grabs your attention and makes you realise that THIS IS QUALITY. Marvellous. Two years later, I'm still thrilled with it all.
