Removing Microplastics from Waters - Challenge Accepted | Katrin Schuhen | TEDxVienna

- Dr. Katrin Schuhen stands with her team at Wasser 3.0 (www.wasserdreinull.com) for a completely new approach to remove micropollutants sustainably from our water. Waters contaminated with micropollutants are highly complex systems.
Wasser 3.0 meets them with a maximum of interdisciplinary expertise, innovation and idealism. As part of research projects, marketable solutions have been developed since 2012 to eliminate microplastics, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, hormones, X-ray contrast media and other pollutants.
The methods made by Wasser 3.0 can be flexibly applied wherever micropollutants contaminate the water. The solutions are cost-effective, sustainable and the result of the overriding concern: improving water quality and protecting the ecosystem worldwide. Since July 2019, the team of Wasser 3.0 have been successfully operating the first pilot plant at a wastewater treatment plant in Germany, which is able to remove microplastics from urban wastewater.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
What only 15k views this video needs so much more recognition that this😱 her study and solutions are so epic to help the environment! For our water!!! She's awesome!!!
That’s a great innovation. I hope they find a way to remove micro plastics in soil as well
what an important video and only 8k views in 2 years. The entire world appears to be watching other RUclips nonsense.
Very well agreed. World should know its importance
facts
Plastic cause cancer and estrogen plus plus .
Dude, this is ultra important for humanity
I cannot believe that this amazing woman was at my former university and was voted out because her teaching was bad. (I bet it was a systematic vote against her though). I saw her once when she was interviewed at uni for TV.
Nevertheless, I think Water 3.0 was her path! ;)
What happens to that chemical that floats the plastics to the surface?
Do we end up drinking it? And what side effects does it cause in our bodies?
One I know is that it disrupts hormones causing low fertility/infertility for both women and men and men lose testosterone and become more feminized, cancer as well, it kills cells as well and has been found in animal brains so not very good at all
That’s what I thought
good explanatory video , an important question that you do with the waste obtained from microplastics ( those white balls ) , how do you eliminate that waste without polluting the environment
Good point
Amazing................, can it be applied directly in oceans ?
please describe the collection of sampling methods in the in-effluent and effluent in the WWTPs for microplastics.
Awesome!!
an amazing idea, thankyou
just WOW!!
Does hybrid silica gel solid or liquid?
Amazing work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
what have you mixed in water to accumulate microplastic from water?
We have solved this and collegial communication is good 👍
Waaw such an impressive
this video is so important to global climate change
Maaaaaaaan....wjats in tje solution so we can make it?????
And then? The reagent?
Wow genius
6:57 but can you still drink it?
yes you can - the gel simply binds the microplastics, the rest of the nutrients are still in the water
It is a treatment for waste and process water, not for drinking water.
World is not taking any action against microplastics
Why only 11,000 views?
So what is actually her process to remove microplastic from water?
Heat?@juts_sama
So what will happen to the climped up microplastics?
How can you truly get rid of it?
You can probably destroy the polymer chains with heat
what do u mean with water heat it up in a sauce pan then let it cool? right?@@henryc7548
The only way to remove microplastics is to prevent them becoming microplastics. For s atart, trade new fishing for old. For the rest place a bounty redeemable for cash.
Gaynocomastia for micro plastic 😢
intresting topic, and im glaad people are working on it. That being said her voice is highly annoying.
Lol !
I thought I was the only one.
Awesome Woman! Study chemistry do world prevalent issue related impactful work, and still be chill like her first, before judging primitively. Better take the message than becoming personal huh
Obviously English is not her first language
I like her voice, and I teach voice!
People are becoming dumber these days they are not seeing the true threats THE PLASTIC
Rather than they are trying harder to get validation from others and stuff?
blah blah blah
get to the point
i cant stomach the angry authoritative tone of leftists
Plastics cause feminization of men by attacking testosterone, if right wingers want manly men not femboys then stop these microplastics ruining our hormones
