I’ve been a plumber for 48 yrs. Put in lots of pans but never saw how to bed and tile one. Remodeling my house and came across your video. Thank you! Now I’m ready to tackle this job and do it right!
Awesome. Bought a book decades ago to learn how to do this, but never fully understood how to. Your video have made the difference. Love the positive vibes at the end. Peace back to you.
Great video! Old school all day but i do like the Redi-Tile system because everything is so much easier so its lot less thinking, lol . Thick or thin tile no problem just adjust the drain.
A big hello friend, I love your videos and you are a person who has a lot of patience to be able to explain and for that reason I want to give you a hand. Next time do not use tiles to level, pay attention here, Next time better use metal light tube the 1/2 inch ones and you can also use the 3/4 and 1 inch ones depending on the job you are going to do. Believe me, the level will be easier and it will be easier and faster to make the bathroom and if you are going to put tile on the floor also work 100%
Concrete work looks good! I use the same method, old-school, best rule! Here’s a little tip!! On your next project, take it down to a full sheet , you only have about 3 to 4 inches of a piece, there’s too much shower liner in your corners, this will cause it to be pushed out and unstable. But the way you installed the shower liner it is the correct way though. You never know how your tile will lay out. You do not want to have a small piece over that piece of board.
Thanks for noticing this shotty work to! Did you notice the regular 1/2" sheetrock on shower walls? Just goes to show you, any old bloke can make a video. And yes, I am a licensed contractor in California.
Bro I have to redo my shower pan and this whole process looks like a pain in the balls. The more I watch the more my confidence drops haha. Just want to get the wife off my ass though.
Anyway it Pans out, he's got you bro 😎 Itd be dope if they made retractable tile guy levels for pans, perhaps the ingenuity would be accomplished on the top of the the level to avoid making scratch marks amongst the pan. Have you thought about making products of your own after having done tile your entire life? Maybe these should be called tamPans instead of drypaks😂
Hi Tile Coach, I watch your videos repeatedly, yet as a DIY guy, I might have screwed up. I have put too much water in the mix. The mix has already hardened. How bad is this?
For the new guys! An exposed liner and a well-used trowel, you can cut the liner and never know it when troweling the mud along the wall and curb! I cringe every time I see someone use a level as a screed or someone beets on it ! Have multiple size straight edges for screeding in your tool kit! Stablia makes a specific masonry level to beat on! It's not this one! We used to lightly pack the mud like Isaac only when we would install tile wet same day and beet the tile into the wet mud! Today we don't set tile like this so I tend to really pack the mud alot more than how Isaac shows in his video! The more it's packed the stronger the final mud bed! Isaac ever used a figure 8 pattern with your straight edges to establish the perimeter screed instead of beating your level into the mud?
Wow! Look @ you! Going back to the traditional ways. Tried to say this to you over all the years! It drys out! It drys out after every shower. Better than any system out there. If done correctly! Where's the floflex?lol
Drywall contractor in Jersey here Replacing my own shower now. Installed Hardibacker and taped seams with straight flex tile tape with thinset. How should I waterproof the boards before tile ? What are you using these days. Thought about a membrane and or some trowel on waterproofing. Have you ever installed a membrane using laticrete ? Or any other combination. By the way if you sprinkle some Portland over your mud pan it will stiffen it up !
i think your notch for drain turned out a bit lower than anticipated, so you had to use a bit more thin set on floor tiles to make the difference. the notch is right but doesnt allow for slight tamping the dry pack. nice work my friend
@@TileCoachyes I seen how gently you were tamping sheets down into the thin set, trying not to get thin set up to far in joints. Happened to me a few times for sure when I did liner pans. Appreciate all you do my friend.
Nice float, but you really need your curb lath before the float so it ties in with the deck mud. Curb mud is thin & weak in comparison, and the step up creates an additional load, so it really needs to tie in there.
been doing this for 35 years video is good for rookies but i mud a pan in 45 minutes if my laborer didnt make too wet then i have to show them again tip buy a good 36 inch wood level and cut both sides equally on a chop saw i find 29 inches i fine keep up the good work
How you do shower pans is don't do panliners. I'm in dallas tx. Everyone only uses panliners. I learned shower builds years ago in California I have my cti certified . I'm maybe only one don't use panliners. All my jobs are redos from failed panliners. I use laticrete membrane or hydroban and my showers will last 40 or 50 years what a real shower should last. I learned my tile trade in Sacramento California 18 years ago. Texas is the worse state when comes to shower builds. Bunch of contractors here do not know how to really build showers. No inspection here or nothing no flood test either crazy. I live in texas but California builds are by far more Superior
This is the only way if you ask me. As easy and innovative as all the new stuff is, I just can’t bring myself to install styrofoam in someone’s bathroom
the way you are doing this is wrong i use metal lathe run from floor up the walls to the bottom of the drywall {it ties the system together} dont know who taught you this but thats NOT how i was taught.
Bro no lie thats how ive been floating showerpans for more then 20 years. Keep it old school. Never have i used shluter system
💯

Nice job. Good to see you say something positive about Starr.
waiting for that starrtile seal of approval
absolute master of the trade.
Excellent. This was extremely helpful. Your method for leveling and sloping worked perfectly in my project. Thank you.
Awesome. Bought a book decades ago to learn how to do this, but never fully understood how to. Your video have made the difference. Love the positive vibes at the end. Peace back to you.
this is the best mud shower pan in youtube beautiful job
Keep up the good work, 42 Years in the the trade C-54 you’ve been taught Right, in tile u only worry about 3 things
WATER-WATER-WATER!!!
One trades man to another. YOU ARE GOOD ! You give what a customer deserves. QUALITY.
This is a brilliant informative useful video unlike most on here, thanks for showing your secrets mate 👍
Great video! Old school all day but i do like the Redi-Tile system because everything is so much easier so its lot less thinking, lol . Thick or thin tile no problem just adjust the drain.
Excellent tutorial on skilled labor details without going over the top........
I made a 30" level out of a 6' that got bent on the end. It is great for so many things, especially doors.
Very skilled in how you use those floats, wow!

You're killing me with the square edge trowel! Finish up with a round edge trowel and cut that time down !
Then do you add backer in that 6" area on the wall? No videos on that.
It’s beautiful 👍💪
Great video. Please show how you do the curb in one of the following videos. Thanks!
Excellent video. This helped me a lot. Thanks
This is super intimidating.
Work of art
Stabila makes a 32in
Nice job. 💪🏼👊🏼gretings from the netherlands 🇳🇱
Thank you! 👍
Perfect couch, Thanks

this is awesome info bro

Can you just add mason sand to a 4:1 mix to lean it out? For instance 1 premixed bag to 1/4 mason sand.
Nice job! Thanks!
Is this actually mud?….seems so dry…..Will be remodeling my bathroom soon….thanks for the awesome videos!
Awesome work!
5:12 stabila makes a 32" level 🤔
Why not leave the durock 2 inch high and the way you can cover all with cement. Or how do you cover the liner .
Hi Tile Coach, I watch your videos repeatedly, yet as a DIY guy, I might have screwed up. I have put too much water in the mix. The mix has already hardened. How bad is this?
Half my pre slope failed. Sounds hollow under it. can I hammer out just the bad area and try again or tear it all out?
For the new guys! An exposed liner and a well-used trowel, you can cut the liner and never know it when troweling the mud along the wall and curb!

I agree
What did you put under the liner? If placed directly on cement can you do same with OSB or is there another step with osb flooring?
Check out his previous video, episode 1. He lays a mortar bed or pre-slope (on top of OSB) towards the weep holes of the drain.
Did you pre slope before your pan ? Or lay pan straight to sub floor?
Can you use Tyvek as a vapor barrier instead of that paper?
32 inch Bostich Level is my favorite. Might work well instead of a 30 inch level.
Sorry might be a dumb question but you leveled it out the the tile height, no room for grout? Not criticizing just want to learn.
Wow! Look @ you! Going back to the traditional ways. Tried to say this to you over all the years! It drys out! It drys out after every shower. Better than any system out there. If done correctly! Where's the floflex?lol
What's even better is you don't have to use the 30/40 ml liner to have the traditional system work. Just FYI!
Flofx is for membrane bonded system, not for liners that need weep holes. He just did curb less shower with, flofx membrane and drain.

Red Gard liquid membrane.
Laticrete Hydro Ban is better than Red Gaurd.
What is that gap between bed and walls ?
How do you fill it later with drywall or cement boards or what exactly?
First of all, he is using regular drywall in a shower, this guy has no idea what he is doing. And yes, I am a licensed general contractor.
As a tile installer I don’t recommend using gravel because it clogs the weep holes and the water does not flow properly. JUST A TIP
So what do you use?
@tilecoach can you tell me where to get this rubber bucket? Also, what size is it? Thanks!
Pretty sure its a Rubi rubber bucket 10.5 gallon.
i think your notch for drain turned out a bit lower than anticipated, so you had to use a bit more thin set on floor tiles to make the difference. the notch is right but doesnt allow for slight tamping the dry pack. nice work my friend
You are correct! I had to build up a little more thinset around the drain. Thanks for noticing the small details!

Brick layers use a 30" level.
Is it really old school if you're not using a lead pan??
Thanks
Awesome
Nice , whats next
Nice
the correct term is a DEGO STICK
Maestro eso siempre es confuso para mi
I want to know why a lot of people don’t used pebbles

been muddin for 68 years i can bang this out in 8 minutes boi. job done got paid
You’re an old ass man. No need for you to be watching RUclips at that age
I hope to be retired by 65😂
😳🤯

That mud wasn’t mixed properly, can see it. !
This guy sucks.

Regular sheet rock for the tile shower walls? No Bueno.
Denshield
its pretty hard to watch lol
Can someone help me understand, he put pvx liner on curb, did he install thinset and tile over it, or did he install cement board or mortar on it ?
Just buy a 32” level and cut an inch off each end. Theres your 30” level.
Tip. Just unscrew the drain at the end of your pack to get the height you need to meet your pan tile. 🫨
