RUclips has definitely made some changes, and I can tell you that as a small channel, I've felt the impact. I've been around for a long time and have never been monetized because I don't need that hustle. About eight months ago, my live streams and video shorts started getting a significant boost in views. However, suddenly around the end of June this year, no matter what live video or short I uploaded, the views dropped to single digits, even for shorts. This decline has persisted, and my view hours have also fallen off. I'm not alone in this issue. Many other creators in my niche are experiencing the same problem. Despite our efforts, we haven't found a solution. I produce walking vlogs, gaming content, gaming news, and podcast-style live streams. Even larger channels in the same niches that are monetized have seen a significant drop in views. Some of these creators have been doing this for over five years as their full-time income but can no longer earn enough views due to the decline in the last 6 to 8 months. its almost as if there is a decline in you tube across the Board that the largest of large have not been hit with a big enough drop that they are talking just yet about .
Fr that happened to me on a few occasions I had one short that had over 1 million impressions and hundreds of thousands of views after a month it still getting views just a few dozen every day
I want to just have fun, but I’m scared of becoming an obscure RUclipsr and losing the chance to ever blow up again like I have a few times throughout my channel’s lifespan.
So no explanation why AVERAGE shorts views went down by 95% on my channel in one day, at the end of June, and never recovered. I maintained quality, frequency and amount all through July and it never got better.
My shorts views are at all time highs, the 'jumping into the action' section of this video is spot on. Skip the intro and jump right into the interesting stuff!
Great video, there is one thing I’d add to this: In my experience RUclips sometimes puts your channel in front of your audience but sometimes it gives chance to other creators. What I experienced is my shorts would get decent views for like 5-6 weeks, and then whatever I do for 3-4 weeks my channel would perform at 30% compared to those previous weeks. In those 5-6 weeks I’d have about 40-100k views but in the first 48 hours in the low cycle I’d have 2-20k. Views on my evergreen shorts would drop as well, all in the same time. Then the cycle starts again. Views coming in, the videos I have uploaded within those 3-4 low weeks would get decent views, old videos would pick up the speed as well. Not sure what’s causing these cycles but I’d assume it’s the fact that there are many creators and everyone needs to have a chance at succeeding.
Interesting information 🤔 I'm a new youtube channel and I've noticed most of my videos get to around 400 to 500 views in a short time and them come to a complete stop. I've tried re wording text. Change the # Change the keywords. Once it's dead at a certain number of views it's just dead.
@@kindness.chronicles how many times have you been through this cycle for you to say hey this happens and for us to know this isn’t a one or two time thing?
RUclips shorts are extremely cruel and ruthless I been struggling to get monetised for the past 4 years guys trust me and i still can't hit just a simple 10 million views I have changed 10 different niches but still couldn't get my channel monetised This is absolutely insane
I've made some shorts aimed for search based traffic, they're continually getting traffic in the hundreds of views daily. I've got shorts that die off after a day and others that keeps going. Long form is definitely my focus, however, I'm still going to make shorts that add value to my audience as the situation arises.
What happened to my short views? It keeps getting worse I used to have millions of views back in late 2022- early 2023 but now, I only have under a thousand views. I'm sure even my shooting quality and editing are better. Really sad.
You gota make it catchy right off the bat. The sound/music could possibly be more important than the video its self. Also try to remember most people on shorts are looking for brain rotting content.
I've tried different things myself, from adding # to changing wording to making different thumbnails. It's like once a video gets to a certain number of views. It doesn't matter what you do to try get it up again It's dead.
i have over 140,000 subscribers & RUclips was my full time job since 2010, and NOW im about to become homeless, all my time, effort, blood , sweat and tears down the drain all for nothing, all due to youtube changing up the website way to many times, youtube used to send out numerous notifications a day now they only send out 3 a day, plus the algorithm is messed up as well, half my subs dont even get my videos anymore, its sad that this was my full time job now ill be homeless living in a tent in a couple of weeks! Unreal! as much as i love my subs and fans, it goes to show you that it doesn't matter how many subs you have in 2024!
That’s sad. When I got monetized, my mom would always tell me RUclips is fickle and she’s right. You could be doing well for a while and then suddenly something just knocks you off your feet. That’s always why it’s good to have a Plan B or something else you can run to if RUclips doesn’t work out because you put everything on RUclips and then it could be gone within seconds.
@AceOf77 But you’re a very tidy channel though how could you be doing RUclips as a full-time job? If you don’t even meet the monetization requirements unless this isn’t your main
What about affiliate marketing? You could implement that into your channel as a another income source, also opening a shop eventually, and maybe promotional videos?... I'm just trying to give you ideas to maybe help you, I hope you figure it out bro 🙏
@blackqweenmars Yes this is why it's important to look at your channel as a business, so I've been told. Make a website, post on all other platforms, plus have multiple channels with the goal of monetization for each, there is so much opportunity to make money other then youtube with your content, youtube should just be part of the business not the whole buisness.
here is a possible explanation... I'm not a content creator but I am a regular viewer and youtube shorts on home is gone. it's missing from my home menu on all my devices and to manually go to a channel to view their shorts would be exhausting...
I'm doing that on another channel that I have. I am doing 1 short and 1 long form per week now because I'm over 2300 subs and still not monetized. I'm focusing on making quality, engaging long form content now instead of cranking out a bunch of shorts.
All this strategy will do is kill your channel. Your current subscribers hit the button to watch shorts, NOT longform, so when you produce this new longform content, you'll get very few views and RUclips will stop pushing your vids.
Sure dude, unlucky for you Shorts and Longform content have seperate audiences. So literally noone will watch your Longform if you got your subs via Shorts xD
From 4.2 million views on the day of July 26th, my views constantly declined every single day, now sitting at a 300k views a day, I'm honestly super confused and mad at the same time, knowing I can't do anything about it.
Same, I have around 9k Subscribers, and I used to get 30k to 40k views easily, but now it is around 5k to 15k. Moreover even my Subscriber growth has also ended aswell, as I used to get around 80 to 110 Subscribers per day, but now I am getting only 30 to 40 Subscribers per day. I don't know what to do?, I checked content, my hastags, my audience. It's good, but i don't what gone wrong.
Same thing has happened to me i used to get at least 50k per video and 100 subs per day not it takes me about 2 weeks to get 100 subs and my views are stuck at 10-20k views what’s the solution for this
As a small RUclipsr its not easy making videos and not getting views and subcribers. It not encouraging but I will never give up on my dreams and passion for coming to RUclips
I actually deleted most my shorts on my channel a while back, removed over 4 million views from my channel overnight, but I left a few higher views ones. I noticed that after RUclips changed the algorithm last year, to show shorts viewers long form and vice versa, long form views dropped. It kind of tanked my channel deleting the shorts, but I was thinking long term. Then all of a sudden, one of the shorts I left blew up, picked up over 3 million views in like 2 weeks! It has a 0.9% swipe away, which is crazy! You never know when a short will just blow up! 🤦 Personally I think it would be great if RUclips went back to separating shorts and long form out. The two just don't mix imo! RUclips do need to sort their system out though. It does seem pointless having subs if RUclips wont actually show your videos to them. 🤷♂️
I have noticed on my small weather RUclips channel (4.8k subs) that doing occasional Shorts doesn’t hurt, but many of my Shorts viewers seem to be less likely to come and watch my longform content. I try to keep most content horizontal because of that.
They just gonna skip around the fact that YT is basically doing an algorithm overhaul. We haven't been talking about how our Shorts just don't perform well sometimes. We're saying there was an abrupt shift in Shorts impressions. This was the beginning of June for me. It was a little earlier or a little later for others, but still the same time-frame of a one-month period. This was abrupt. This wasn't addressed in this video. Maybe they misunderstood what we're saying. Idk. I'm focusing on my LF content now so i guess I'll figure out Shorts when the algorithm figures out what it's doing...........
That's the problem, they never give channels a heads up on what they're doing to the algo in the background. We have to figure out things for ourselves.
yes i think more people are annoyed with only 0-5 impressions on their shorts, which seems more of a algorithm thing, than people just not interested in your hooks or content, as long as they keep it consistent with impressions, shorts will be a good place to engage viewers.
@@Mrbeescifi exactly, bc my shorts r the same as they were when I was getting 10k views, then suddenly I can't seem to get even 500. I put it in a comment on this channel. I've been checking my impressions & some shorts get only a few to start. A few have started with 1 ONE impression lol wth... Those r the ones that end with the lowest views. Surprise Surprise! But I do give them a few days to simmer. I know they're doing changes & upgrades that are meant to help viewers not be fed vids they have no interest in. I'm taking this time to focus on my LF, & to consider the OC Shorts I originally wanted to do instead of trends.
@@CourtneyDeez yeah i was trying to both shorts and long form content, once i got past the restricted impressions, i notice that a lot of the shorts subscribers left once seeing the long form, which is different but didn't want to make two channels lol, so back to long form, ill have to make another channel for shorts.
I haven't spent much time researching or filming YT Shorts until my current 27-day Shorts challenge during my Army medicine internship showing the inside scoop. But I find it curious when most of my Shorts are slightly under my sub. level: ~450 views average, and yet some get 40 views. YT says that the thumbnail doesn't really matter on them, but I customize my Shorts thumbnails anyway. The titles may mean more to most of my audience, yet it's weird because, for 27 days, you'd think each of my videos would either trend down, up, or flatline, but it seems randomized how many views one gets compared to another with a similar topic, thumbnail, and title.
i remember always posting my first ever short on you tube, and it went very good with a whopping around 5-10k views but then after i post another video about 2-3 days later it doesn't even reach its full potential its stuck at like 1-10 views and i've figured that youtube just pushes you're first video to more people than your others, i guess we all have to learn the hard way.
My shorts are being watch on "LOOP" and RUclips stopped pushing my shorts out. I haven't had a short hit over 20K in months when I used to hit 60K and 100K easy.
This doesn’t explain why my new shorts which are similar to my other shorts just randomly do not get views and do not get impressions at all. This video is now helpful at all. This is old school news and advice
Also avoid reposting the same continent and delete it and re-posting short, could get you a lot of subscribers, but less longform views shorts could probably not confirmed! Could be good, depending on how you use them anddd please be careful what you do on shorts
my videos after a time aren't even getting a single view so i tried delete and reposting my short at different times of the day and realized that that it may fix that .
As a new channel my shorts were getting 400 to 1.3 thousand each. I was using shorts to gain subs. Then June 10th the plug was pulled from YT. Short views fell down to just a few. It’s been like that since and hasn’t come back. I’ve tried mixing days and posting times. Hasn’t helped. Also I gained 95% of my subs during that time. Now. Hardy any subs despite doing long form videos. So. I’m at a crossroad to just stop or keep going. I saw other channels out there they’ve been working on since 2018. Same boat. Their views dropped off the map but they are still posting vids despite only 30 to 70 or so views and still not monetized.
Ms. Lemme save you time. These creators bought these subs & views. I found out this out last week. Dont let'em fool ya. But believe what you want like I told others, you won't get your channel monetized.. EVER doing what they're telling ya.
Loving my first two as a RUclipsr! 7 subs shorts 1k views and counting. So many awesome people in the community to share ideas with as well. Great video!
1:03 the problem is, most people only get views for that hour. I’ve only had a handful of shorts get views beyond the first hour and they were always ones that only got like 100 in the first hour and they then get like 500 and die. I had one get 15k in an hour with over 100% views percentage and good likes… and it just stopped. It doesn’t make sense! If you have a longform video with metrics like that, it’s gunna get into the 100s of thousands range.
When you stop getting views for shorts (say it stalls at 100 views) what do you recommend doing? Reupload with new title/description/hashtags? Delete the original? Change SOMETHING small in the video and upload that?
Has anyone else experienced this issue? It seems that even when attaching your videos to an original audio for Shorts, they aren’t showing up in the audio’s feed that displays all attached Shorts. Currently, it looks like the feed is primarily displaying “green screen” versions of videos. Even when the feed isn’t only displaying “green screen” versions, it’s also showing content that is really low quality or not 100% relevant in comparison to what it used to show, which seemed like it would show everything. I’ve noticed multiple videos, including those on other channels, no longer displaying on the audio they are attached to-they’ve simply disappeared, even if they were previously at the top of the feed. Is anyone else seeing this happen? I’m super confused and looking for insights.
We've noticed a similar issue with our Shorts. Videos attached to an original audio aren't showing up in the audio feed, even when they previously did. It's puzzling. We would love to know what is going on!
Shorts isn't a bad idea. You have to be intentional about the type of content you post in order to attract the right audience and not passers by. I'm sharing from experience.
The problem with shorts is that they’re very short-lived hundreds of people generally come to my shorts within minutes and then people just stop watching it all together some shorts have a longer lifespan and still get views after months, but most of them will never get another view after a few days and there’s the problem of retention people just quickly swiping before the view even gets counted
They don’t have to be Short-lived though, I’ve mentioned about this in my reply to Your other comment. I’ve been able to create some Evergreen Shorts and Videos in the Same Niche, on the Same Channel and some of My Community watch My (wider screen) Shorts & Videos.
I sort of like creating shorts because it was easier for me to get started with the channel when I had a phone and no PC. It is hard to get to momentum going but it’s worth the effort! I’ve learned an incredible amount in just a year.
The problem with your shorts is that the audience that it attracts tends to be a lot younger and have a shorter attention span, which means that it’s not hard to get them to watch the short, but it’s a little bit harder to get them to come back and also RUclips shorts doesn’t pay very well so you might try to make content, but the short view is generally don’t really want that so you only get a few dozen people coming for long form. I see large channels with millions on their shorts only getting a few thousand on there longform. A few of my most loyal viewers will generally come in for long long few minutes, but then nobody else really watches it at that point. because on shorts, you can get people to like accidentally give you views by not scrolling within a few seconds but online you have to get people to click and so much different videos out there for them to click. Why should they click yours?
The majority of My Community are 45 years - 65 years (I will be 47 in September) - age shouldn’t be a factor! 🙂 I create Wider Screen Shorts with more detail than Standard Shorts, mainly Edits Storytelling with Songs & I balance these with Video Edits. Not all Shorts Views are from Shorts Feed, many of mine are from Browse Features, Suggested Videos (Recommended), RUclips Search, Channel Page, Playlists, Hashtag page, Sound page, etc, so not all from scrolling. My Shorts & Videos are working well. Why should they click my content? Because I’m trying to stand-out in a popular niche with my creative twists. I’ve created a few Series’ of Shorts from one-offs which continue to get views & continue to be recommended, My Top 5 Shorts range from 1 Month to 5 Months ago. Once RUclips starts Recommending your content, this will include New & Old, Videos & Shorts. This took 7 Months to start on my channel, since January this year. Some of My Shorts get watched on-loop & some of My Community watch Videos & Shorts. RUclips won’t allow Me to look at Your Channel from here, the screen freezes for some reason! 😳 Community is Key to growing a Channel. ✅ Building Engagement across a Channel will help RUclips to Recommend content. Best Wishes, Amanda 🙂
Facing this at the moment, clueless of what's actually happening. Probably because mine still a small channel. It's a weird feelings when the analytic shows a lot of positive and promising outcome, but then youtube somehow hinted you that your videos is 'not enough'.
I have the same formula for shorts as I have been doing for a year, and they were doing well. This video doesn't explain why videos aren't hitting the short shelf at all over the past 2 months!
I have been doing the RUclips thing for almost 4 years and have never had a video get any traction after it's initial push. I keep hearing some RUclips gurus (you included) say videos sometimes start getting views after months or even years, but this has never happened to me, with long form or short form. I suspect it's my niche, but would love to hear what you guys think. Maybe on a future episode.
Been going through this exact problem. Ive been doing shorts for about 3 months now. Some vids get 1000. Some just dont get but 10. Only at 69 subs. 🤞🏽 im just going to keep on
I wanna quickly update everyone that in the past few days I’ve had 2 shorts that have been holding strong momentum and getting thousands of views per day and have gotten me more subscribers than the past month and hopefully everyone now is going to have the same luck as me now
Newer creators tend to think that because shorts are short, they are way easier than long form. In fact they are a lot harder. You have to hook someone in in the first 2 seconds or less otherwise they will swipe away. Shorts are not the gold mine of instant success of going viral people think they are. They are not the same as they were when they first launched. Now your short has to hook people and keep them watching till the end. So remember if you want to do shorts make sure to know that they won't get you a 1000 subscribers overnight and in fact your shorts could perform terribly and barely get views.
In July I finally increased my traffic and views to 10k views. In August I uploaded two videos and got 20 views with low traffic. Absolutely do not get it. I use your extension to improve my SEO I get 45-47/50 when I upload it. Waking up in the morning is painful just to find out that I got 1% of my old views 😮
Ok everything was going fine my shorts were getting views but today again views dropped 😶 I am following every advice but idk why i am not getting desired views even if i get views they are around 500 - 600 no matter how good viwed ratio it has
I took a small break from posting, and came back feeling like I'm starting over to get my view count back. Now I'm back at feeling exhausted because taking the break was my idea of bringing new content, but now I'm just frustrated. But hey, let's be happy we can still make content, get viewers, and build community. I will reach my goal, with hard work. So let the game begin. 😅😅😅 Good luck to you all out there, don't give up. ❤
All know is: 8-10 days ago, my shorts would get anything between 100-500 views on avrg. Then didn’t upload shorts for a week, just a few gameplay vids. Then the last 2 days, I’ve uploaded like 15-30 shorts. NONE OF EM ARE GETTON VIEWS NOW. Just my gameplay vids. So I KNOW it’s RUclips not pushin my damn vids out
In the first week of june, i got boost and completed 1k subscribers with 2.5M views with a simple strategy, but now i am trying harder then that and following the trend, but still my shorts are not even getting 1k views, that hits hard😢 but i think it will be fine soon.😅
Thanks for the video. Based on your experience can you explain why shorts with click through rate of 40-45% and 60-70% of average view still stop having views after first day? 45% click through rate and 60-70% average view in the feed is considered low??? I have no answer...In my opinion if in the first day 45 people every 100 viewers (Randomly selected) select to view your shorts....this is a good sign...but youtube seems not interest to this and consider this too low...this is based on my experience of several shorts that after 550 views with the metrics above...simply stop to have views...
That video just gives general information, that obvious to anyone with brain. But the fact that RUclips works totally random most of the time, pushing videos to the random people, showing videos for random, even not far related, search results etc. So no, you not answering the question.
It is actually an extremely easy question to answer why people are no longer getting views on their shorts. They were getting views because they were the only choice. Okay there were so few people actually doing shorts when it started, especially because it paid so little f*** that those who were making shorts were getting all the views. Now there are so many people making shorts. It's become over exaggerated with choice and that means far less views.
RUclips too hard. I'm just switching between niches and i think i kind of messed up my channel with that move. Currently at 140 subs and whenever i try to upload a vid from different niche i lose subs some from the other group that's interested in a different topic
My shorts are not even getting impressions. My last one, after hours, it only had 8 impressions. No one can see it if YT doesn't put it out there. Also, my videos are being suggested by videos that have NOTHING to do with woodworking. " 10 Things You Didn't Know About Caitlin Clark" "Will this Abandoned Honda with a Seized Engine"...I have no idea.
You are not wrong. I sacrificed my shorts, because there was one viral that ruined my long-form views. When I removed shorts I started getting views on my long videos.
@@DankLordOniichances are if your shorts view is high your long form content will be very low.. That's how it is.. It's tough to make your shorts viewers also watch your long form content
I had some really good performing shorts and everything suddenly slowed down. Within a few days I started getting only 1/4 views of what I used to get and it's still going downhill. A week ago one short had 30k views per hour, now it's barely reaching to 1k. And the graph on that one is a really good example of how it suddenly stopped. There was a huge drop within an hour
I do a weekly update short that gained around 2k per short. I got less than 20 views on them for the last 2 months. I did change the beginning of the short because I figured RUclips thought they were spam shorts. And they did get a few more views.

Once I hit 1000 I am cutting shorts out significantly and going to focus more on long form content.
I still upload shorts at 8000 subs I had no problem not as much
All it really is. It’s just a algorithm changing and we just don’t know that yet but I’m just getting a lot of views but not much subscribers

@@Jocelynetim can anyone tell me when should I upload a lond video. I have only 52 subscribers. Mine is not a searchable content.
Personally I think it would be great if RUclips went back to separating shorts and long form out.
@@CourtneyDeez yeah i was trying to both shorts and long form content, once i got past the restricted impressions, i notice that a lot of the shorts subscribers left once seeing the long form, which is different but didn't want to make two channels lol, so back to long form, ill have to make another channel for shorts.
getting recommended by RUclips algorithm is the best thing that can happen to your channel.
Where did you do/ are you doing the internship though? Plus is it a paid one?

The IDEA: Making several teaser-shorts for testing INTRO HOOK before publishing the main video. So you can select hook with better retention.

Same boat.
If you have a longform video with metrics like that, it’s gunna get into the 100s of thousands range.
i understand the think to find the right people to send it too, but when its not even shows up in feed at all, then something is wrong

Sometimes getting 1000 in a few minutes but then stop getting views forever and stuck on 1000
Find the time when is your audience online and upload, keep it on point hooked them to watch. One more thing have fun.

Thanks vid iq, I haven't had my average view (1k+) this week.

RUclips too hard. I'm just switching between niches and i think i kind of messed up my channel with that move. Currently at 140 subs and whenever i try to upload a vid from different niche i lose subs some from the other group that's interested in a different topic
All my shorts spike up in views and then suddenly dies, which is really annoying
My shorts are not even getting impressions. My last one, after hours, it only had 8 impressions. No one can see it if YT doesn't put it out there. Also, my videos are being suggested by videos that have NOTHING to do with woodworking. Avoid shorts completely, they will ruin your channel. I did it and it almost ruined mine. I had to delete most of them. Hey, I might be wrong
How?
