if you are a new channel BE SURE to understand what rob says at 1:48 going forward about what a low CTR does to your Impressions count. At first, its the video's impressions that suffers low numbers. If you keep cranking out videos with low CTR and low watch time your entire channel will see less and less impressions. Eventually you feel like your channel is in the hole. No impressions means no clicks because your thumbnails are served to less and less potential viewers who arent clicking them to start with. Watch more amazing videos like this one. follow rob closely. Pause, rewind and watch again. set yourself up for success with click winning thmbnails and killer content that will keep them watching for as long as possible. I really don’t know why people keep banging on about shorts. I think they’re bloody awful. You’ll probably never manage to monetise a shorts channel, and if by some miracle you do, you get paid very little. Shorts viewers don’t convert to any long form you might be making either. Shorts will get you a LOT of views, but it probably won’t build you a community or get you many subs. 🤷🏻♂️ And no, you’ll get very few comments in shorts. In my opinion, shorts are just a complete waste of time.

I totally agree but I think apart from kind of "copying the content" that is the most popular in our niche it is even more important to create the content you enjoy. I saw some ideas that were doing well in other channels but sometimes I didn't feel like repeating the content as I wouldn't feel enthusiastic about the topic of the video (for example). Sometimes I try to "follow a trend" but usually I just do whatever I feel I will enjoy doing. If I only (or mostly) had to follow the popular videos I feel I wouldn't be myself in the videos and maybe I wouldn't continue uploading videos so frequently. Anyway thank you for sharing your insights :)
I totally agree. I have a small channel (1900 Subs) and try to follow trends based on research and this led to some burnout, and less authentic video creation. Feeling motivated now to create content that is unique, but still relevant to my channel. Thanks for sharing!
i took that first step and finally created a youtube channel after years of wishing i could do youtube but then coming up with countless excuses to not do it 🤦♀️ now i'm enjoying my slow growth and feel like i'm actually going somewhere with it 🥰 i'm still learning though so everything i'm doing is all over the place 😂
I don't know what I did, but my channel got over 10 thousand views this past weekend! It's a HUGE milestone for me. Thanks for everything you do to help us!
I'm still pretty new, but I will say for my channel - everything I make is purely for what I'm passionate about and who it helps. I know which videos to make that get 2k+ views (high for my niche), and which wind up in the 100-300 view range - but I don't ignore the topic just because it won't get the views. It often takes me several weeks to make a video, but I pay attention to every comment - especially on the lower view count videos that seem to give feedback that I was able to help somebody with motivation. It would be cool to monetize, but that's not my goal at this point since I'm just learning how to make decent videos with meaning and purpose.
It's still a lot of fun creating videos, despite the views you get, if you love what you do, and getting great at it, it will probably come sooner or later aswell
Just started my RUclips journey this month and I couldn’t be more thankful for all the helpful tips on this channel! Goodluck to all of you wishing you all success 🎉🎉🎉
My channel is growing slowly and I’ve been stuck at 5K subscribers for a while. but hopefully this video helps my channel out. And your videos are so inspiring and I love your content.
I recently created my channel and I know I need to create content that generates interest. I share my perspective, even on philosophical issues, but it's complicated. It feels like I'm in the shadows. But eventually, the light will come.
The weird thing is I have like two or 3 videos that have 20-60k impressions and the rest only have like 1k. The ones with 20k+ have over 1k views while the others barely reach 100 views. Ik my thumbnails aren’t the best but the whole RUclips algorithm will never make sense to me
The algorithm makes sense. It just ignores small channels because they're small, exception confirming the rule. Doesn't matter what you do, nor does it matter if the audience loves your content or not. RUclips doesn't want more creators, so they chase new creators away by not promoting the content at all.
RUclips took away my advanced features and they never told me why I don’t have any copyright strikes or community guidelines I had advanced features for MONTHS now 😢
It is not that easy. As demonstrated with nearly 2 million subs. The view count is there for everyone to see. A video from 3 weeks ago, despite all these subs has 13k view in 3 weeks. Those are some metrics worth recognizing in a big channel, if you have a small channel.
The algorithm has no way of knowing who to target your videos to if you cover various topics. Also, a viewer is gonna be pissed off if they sub to a cooking channel and then you upload a Minecraft vid. Or they sub for a gaming, and then you upload a tech vid. Trying to cater to loads of people will break your channel. Stick to one topic or niche. And build your community.
I was really into idubbbz a few years ago and he managed it too. I watched him for content cop but he also had unboxing videos and stuff like that. So it is possible, but I know what you mean. And I am also not interested in more channels. I have already 2 and it is frustrating. So I let the other channel die and only do what I like. It brings me nowhere, but my headache stopped. ^^; (Also I never did it because of money and always just for fun, which makes it also easier)
It’s been 1 month since I’ve been posting consistently. Made mistakes, learning but I’m so close to 1000 subs! I am leaving this comment here so that after some hours, days, weeks, months or years when someone likes or comment on it, I will be reminded to never forget where I started
Nah. RUclips needs new channels with new content. Not copying other channels where topics have been covered way too much. Why would people want to watch something that is already over saturated 🤦♀️ also, it’s 2024. Time for RUclips to get rid of those junk channels (like I spent 24 hours in a graveyard). Why do you guys always tell people to do things that are old or unwatchable. It’s time people came on this platform bringing new content, exciting content and not junk content
You are of higher intelligence and expect others to want finer content. But I see every day that lowbrow stuff gets major views. It may be a matter of age groups. I don’t know. I was saying on another channel that I see great vlogs with few views but other vlogs ( same demographic, same topic) get tens of thousands of views and subscribers overnight. When I work hard to do a video essay and get intelligent engagement, I love it. Then I feel pressure to always be at that level 😂 when I really just want to post something silly now and then.
Nah, there are times when the algorithm don't recommend the content related to the previous ones I watched and flooded "For You" with things I don't want to bat an eye to. Surely one day you thought, the algorithm is shoving the content it THINKS you want to watch, NOT the content you wanted to watch?
We're extremely close to 10k subs. It's weird how, if you would have told me 3 years ago we'd be this close, I'd have been thrilled. However, we gained a TON of subs and views over a 2 month period, then slowed down dramatically. It's weird the way RUclips works.
Let me stop your Content creator shaming, YET AGAIN, right there. Because, yet again, I'm going to point out that it doesn't matter What The Hell we do, but if RUclips POINT BLANK REFUSES TO SHOW IT TO OUR AUDIENCE it does MATTER! Now, until you accept this, nothing else you have to say is anything other than content shaming. Since you seem to forget that some of us have been here for a while, & did the things you said to do already. The algorithm is a PROMOTER, nothing else. It's supposed to act like a flyer distributor person. Imagine I'm a butcher. I tell the promoter that I have a sausage I want to advertise. The promoter comes back and tells me my sausage is a flop. Why? Show me what you did. The promoter went around screaming at Vegans that they should eat my sausages. When I complain to someone else in the department... YOU, you don't see an issue with the promoter screaming about my butchers shop to vegans. In fact, you tell me my issue is my packaging, my labelling, that I should perhaps concentrate only on sausages, but that for the promoter to be able to get the vegans to actually eat my product, I need to change the quality of my ingredients. Or, and I'm just spit balling here, the promoter could have read my ingredients, and asked MEAT EATERS if they wanted to try my sausages! Because that's what the algorithm was doing last year. You know, with my content you're claiming I was making all the mistakes on, but are still out performing my new content with your 'fixes'. So which is broken, your advice, or the algorithm? Because when it only shows a video about GARLIC to people watching SPANISH TV SHOWS IN SPAIN, I'm not sure what the hell I can do to fix their issue. Right now they've spent over FOUR HOURS showing my latest video to practically NO-ONE. It's had 87 impressions in FOUR HOURS from a potential of MILLIONS IN MY NICHE. Stop telling us we're the problem!
Before I start I want to state that I mean absolutely no offense BUT you are most definitely wrong! I just had a quick look at your most recent videos and can see immediately that the reason why youtube isn't pushing your reach is because your click through rate is too low.. your titles and thumbnails are nowhere near good enough to compete for youtube promotion. Also, you have thousands of subscriber's and they are choosing not to watch your content.I haven't watched your videos but can if you want me to and I'll give you honest feedback. I am no Mr Beast but with zero experience in content creation ive managed to get a channel running with bare minimum uploads thanks ONLY to Vid IQs guidance.. You want to compete on youtube you gotta be competitive!!
@@nieubarmy Oh do stop with the VidIQ trope trotting. I've been doing SEO for DECADES! My titles and description state EXACTLY what they need to. I'm a gardener, my thumbnails don't have to have a fail gurning face in them to attract people. In fact, that nonsense is the very thing that stops me taking a channel seriously. Also, you have ZERO clue what my analytics are. You'd have also compared how my old videos got thousands of views, IN MY NICHE. It seems to escape your attention that a video won't get a CTR if it's not placed correctly for crying out loud. If my search term is GARLIC, it's not rocket science where the video needs placing, so again, why in the living hell would YT ONLY PLACE IT IN FRONT OF SPANISH PEOPLE WATCHING SPANISH TV SHOWS!. That has nothing to do with anything I did. Now, do stop pretending you know more than I do about what RUclips is actually doing with my content, because unless you're VIEWING MY ANALYTICS, you know NOTHING!

I also did this mistake with my old channel i posted 1 slightly different content and got 40-50 times more views 😮 then i posted again and my views were constantly increasing so i started posting completely different contents and my views were increasing but after sometime my subscribers started unsubscribing me and my channel is dead now i will not do this mistake now 😅

I learned you can never predict what will be a hit with audiences. I've heard content creators complain about following a formula but not get many views, but my most popular videos were of a washing machine washing clothing, and me opening kinder eggs. Surprised me, let me tell you. 😂 Apparently, the washing machine and dryer videos were a huge hit with the under 9 months old crowd. I don't make videos for views. I mainly make videos I'd like to watch but can't find. Thanks for sharing your advice and wisdom. 👍
This is what happened to me: I just started my THIRD channel a few days ago, and my second video already got 1k views. Note: I have only uploaded 5 videos so far. I believe that creating eye-catching thumbnail text and an interesting first 30 seconds sets the tone for the entire video. I'm not here to impress anyone just trying to help someone! Cheers!
my issue I think is, that my attention span is very long. I regularly watch very long videos, over an hour or more and never leave. So I can’t understand short attention spans because I am just not that way myself.
I have a good click through rate and retention. After seeing a steady growth RUclips, RUclips now only shows my videos to 10% they used to after posting a live on the same day as my usual upload. This makes zero sense to me

2 years ago the algorithm was better and I was able to get 2-4k views very easily. Now isn't the same but I'm not gonna give up as it became a new hobby for me😊
The most important is not to not give up, but treat yt as just a hobby, so you don't get too stressed when things don't work, or if you get shadowbanned for nothing.
I made a mistake and said the word h_ll in a video, and that's when things went downhill. My videos have improved dramatically, yet my views flat line out after about 150, EVERY TIME. Before this, crappy cell phone videos with no editing were getting 500 plus views
@@stevemcfate1961 Is saying that enough to get shadowbanned? In my case, I never swore in my videos. I have absolutely no idea why all my videos just stopped getting views.

It's been very hard but actually a fun experience. Keep a realistic view on this and never forget to have fun. Much love from South Africa all
From all the VidIQ people I like you the most. :) I like your voice and your videos are fun to watch. I make my own music and because this does not work an RUclips I started to make AMVs I would like to watch myself. So I had the idea, because I wanted to see it myself. The problem is, that, like I said, music never works well on YT and I cant add all these ideas. And what I think funny: I would not have clicked on one single thumbnail / video you showed. But I wonder in general at many things why they get so many views while channels I love get so less. Sry my mother language is not English ^^;
I appreciate the breakdown of how the RUclips algorithm works along with the emphasis on the importance of killer video ideas (12:34). However, is it possible that 'bad' video ideas can still succeed given the unpredictability of what can go viral? And what distinguishes an 'ideal viewer' for the channel (14:50)?

if you are a new channel BE SURE to understand what rob says at 1:48 going forward about what a low CTR does to your Impressions count. That is where success on RUclips starts. stay strong 💪 good luck
My channel is growing ❤ but very slowly 😢 sometimes i feel like i am wasting time on RUclips i should utilise that time in other works but still i am posting 😂 i hope soon i will get motivation to post more 🥺❤
The only problem with my channel is i am trying to interact with people but no one is commenting on my shorts / posts which are most important for growth of any channel 😢
upload less. what you think as value. you can have time for both. dont grind crap. lay nuggets
Some time I feel sad cause my channel is too small 🥺
I really don’t know why people keep banging on about shorts.
I think they’re bloody awful.
You’ll probably never manage to monetise a shorts channel, and if by some miracle you do, you get paid very little.
Shorts viewers don’t convert to any long form you might be making either.
Shorts will get you a LOT of views, but it probably won’t build you a community or get you many subs. 🤷🏻♂️
And no, you’ll get very few comments in shorts.
In my opinion, shorts are just a complete waste of time.
@@jamieredgate602 hmm true
I know vedios are better than shorts i am currently learning vedio editing , i want to post quality vedios so currently i am only posting shorts(easy to edit) just to kerp my channel going i will start posting vedios soon
Never give up!
Same with me 😂
But now my channel is dead i am trying to restart 💪💪
Same here, I'm still on my 2nd week of being consistent after years of just wishing. Hope we all achieve our goals for our channels.

@@vidIQdo you know why im getting low amount of subs but like thousand or ten thousand of views?
I'm with you.
I don't know what I did, but my channel got over 10 thousand views this past weekend! It's a HUGE milestone for me. Thanks for everything you do to help us!
keep it up
Well done. Considering how much competition there is for asmr content.
It would be cool to monetize, but that's not my goal at this point since I'm just learning how to make decent videos with meaning and purpose.
great bro
It's still a lot of fun creating videos, despite the views you get, if you love what you do, and getting great at it, it will probably come sooner or later aswell
Every mistake is a style and one day these mistakes might lead that person to greatness as long as they post on RUclips!

Good luck
My channel is growing slowly and I’ve been stuck at 5K subscribers for a while. but hopefully this video helps my channel out. And your videos are so inspiring and I love your content.
i hope so
Finally getting some views again and growth! Don't give up guys!
Been In youtube almost 3 years from now, I am growing in small terms, but the more hard work you put, the more you will achieve!😀
You got this 💪
@@vidIQ Thanks Man😀
Nope. It's just about luck.

RUclips took away my advanced features and they never told me why I don’t have any copyright strikes or community guidelines
I had advanced features for MONTHS now 😢
Oh yeah, I had that happened on my other channel. No violations, no nothing. Just a hammer right out of the sky and the features I really need, gone.
It is not that easy. As demonstrated with nearly 2 million subs. The view count is there for everyone to see. A video from 3 weeks ago, despite all these subs has 13k view in 3 weeks. Those are some metrics worth recognizing in a big channel, if you have a small channel.
There’s that chocolate cake again!! 😂😂😂 Stellar info!! Thanks!🥰

Seems every time RUclips updates my views just fall, feels like starting all over again, kills my caritative soul
I have been growing slowly but RUclips is a marathon not a sprint. Just stay motivated
💯
I hate how RUclips limits the algorithm to just one or maybe two topics. I want to make videos on many different catagories but just can't
Does this mean that we cannot create various types of videos in one channel? Could you explain more?
You can always create another channel!
I was really into idubbbz a few years ago and he managed it too. I watched him for content cop but he also had unboxing videos and stuff like that. So it is possible, but I know what you mean. And I am also not interested in more channels. I have already 2 and it is frustrating. So I let the other channel die and only do what I like. It brings me nowhere, but my headache stopped. ^^;
(Also I never did it because of money and always just for fun, which makes it also easier)
Quality upon quality, again and again. Thank you! Wishing everyone the best growth 🙏

I've given up worrying about who likes what, I try to make personal improvements with every video.
Onwards and upwards people ❤
They are saying to use part of the viral format, and make the video their own using the format
Exactly !
I personally want to create new and exiting content but I am afraid of YT Algorithm.
agree
You are of higher intelligence and expect others to want finer content. But I see every day that lowbrow stuff gets major views. It may be a matter of age groups. I don’t know.
I was saying on another channel that I see great vlogs with few views but other vlogs ( same demographic, same topic) get tens of thousands of views and subscribers overnight.
When I work hard to do a video essay and get intelligent engagement, I love it. Then I feel pressure to always be at that level 😂 when I really just want to post something silly now and then.
I like your channel because I work at photo studios. Product stuff. But I would like to love it again. I’ll subscribe.
Nah, there are times when the algorithm don't recommend the content related to the previous ones I watched and flooded "For You" with things I don't want to bat an eye to.
Surely one day you thought, the algorithm is shoving the content it THINKS you want to watch, NOT the content you wanted to watch?
yeahh i’m suffering from that now 😢
We're extremely close to 10k subs.
This channel always repeat the same thing to lure a bunch of naive people, just like scam

Good one with the "binge" loop in the end. Watch more to find out. 😂 I still watch these videos. Somehow i always feel like "you can't have enough base knowledge"
I learned you can never predict what will be a hit with audiences.
I've heard content creators complain about following a formula but not get many views, but my most popular videos were of a washing machine washing clothing, and me opening kinder eggs. Surprised me, let me tell you. 😂
Apparently, the washing machine and dryer videos were a huge hit with the under 9 months old crowd.

I have moments where my growth plateaus, but I have moments where I have rapid growth. I wish you all luck!!
To all of us stuck in small channel jail, don’t give up you’ll soon get out.
Back up everything on other platforms.
@@stevemcfate1961 Is saying that enough to get shadowbanned? In my case, I never swore in my videos. I have absolutely no idea why all my videos just stopped getting views.

And what I think funny: I would not have clicked on one single thumbnail / video you showed. But I wonder in general at many things why they get so many views while channels I love get so less.
Sry my mother language is not English ^^;
My channel is in multiple niches and I know nothing about what's in the video until I make about it and learn about it on camera
