My grandmother and sister owned a bakery in Kilmarnock during the great war they gave out their nightly leftovers to rehab homes for injured vets. Every Sat. she baked for our family enough to send home large tins for four separate households. Her Empire biscuits we called "German biscuits" Currently trying to find her recipe for war bread. Love watching your channel and with the pandemic extra time to think of fond family Sunday dinners. Thank you!
We still do call them German biscuits in our family, Jean. These and snowballs were always my favourite. I bet everybody really forward to getting your Grandmother's biscuits 😊
To a fellow Scot.. I made these on the weekend and they were absolutely delicious, the best empire biscuits I have ever tasted!!!! If your reading my comment this is your sign to make these 😂 use this recipe!!! ITS AMAZING!!!!
Thank you for the lovely videos. I am originally from Glasgow, moved to the states when young, now living in Florida. My mum used to make the most wonderful empire biscuits, takes me back and warms my heart. I don't understand any thumbs down? They must be a wee bit glaikit. :-)
Just to let you know, there is a Scottish bakery in Michigan, its called ackroyds and they do deliver. My mom was born in Scotland and thats how I love the meat pies and the black pudding.

I really loved your video of this recipe. I enjoyed following through the steps with you and the perspective of the camera made it easy to do so. I made this recipe with my four year old daughter. My great grandparents on one side moved here to Canada from Scotland and I enjoy showing my daughter pieces of our culture as we are very Canadian now and have lost a lot of recipes/traditions through the generations. Thank you for helping me do that, the cookies turned out amazing and tasted great!

In Australia we have grown up with biscuits very similar called "Kiss Biscuits ". Our mothers made them, our grandmothers made them, our great grandmothers made them. Custard Powder is usually added to the dry ingredients. The jam is usually raspberry or strawberry. The top of the biscuits are iced the same but entirely to the edge, plain white or pink, then dipped in hundreds and thousands. 😋😋😋
Made these last week with your recipe Cheryl , they were delicious, with a nice strong cuppa ☕mmm. Probably ate tooooo many myself. 😋😋😋😋😂😂😂😂😂Can't beat it..

These are deluxe empire biscuits. I used to put icing on with spatula then put on to the bottoms which used a special gluey raspberry jam, we had a shop at 642 Duke Street, and a bakehouse off Whitehill Street. We made fern cakes, eiffel towers, french cakes, coburg, half 'n half [vermicceli], lemon pineapple, cream puffs, sponge oysters, etc

Since emigrating to Canada I have tried many different types of cookies but never found one that had the same taste as a Coffee Bun. I am hoping you have a recipe for these and are able to post a video on how to bake them.
These look delicious 😋 I loved visiting Glasgow and Edinburgh last year. Absolutely fell in love with Glasgow ♥ I made Cullen skink and haggis in the slow cooker... Delicious 😋 love from Hampshire UK 🇬🇧 xx
Hi Sonia :) I've lived in Glasgow & Edinburgh....amazing how two cities can be completely different despite being so close :) I Love a good Cullen Skink, one of the best around x

New subscriber here. Your shortbread crumble is just finishing in the oven and used Bonne Maman strawberry jam as is what I had! looks fantastic. Have your Kedgeree recipe ready to go in the pan to. So happy found your channel through searching for Kedgeree recipe, thankyou from South Australia
My favourite! 😍

Lovely cookies! They remind me of cookies my grandmother and mother used to bake for special occasions.
These look delicious going to have a bash at making them thank you for sharing x
One thing I loved was tipsy cake, can't find it now
These look so proffessional and very tasty.
Cheryl, your Empire cookies look so good. They would be pretty to make for Easter. Thank you for the recipe.
