If you break the cable, you're not screwed. You can buy almost any part of this headphone online, including the cable. Just a little bit of soldering and it's good as new. And the cable won't break easily, you have to put it through a lot for it to break
Yeah I have personally put my headphones through the ringer on accident one time. I was carrying my interface and headphones back upstairs to my setup after finishing watching TV (btw fully recommend watching movies or tv shows with these.. makes it a lot more engaging), and I dropped the headphones over the railing. They fell pretty hard and I really thought it was over for them because the cable was still plugged into my amp. The cable didn't come out of the amp side, and after it fully extended and hit the ground and flew down the hallway it wasn't even close to being lose or damaged from that horrific fall. Even if it was, they sell replacement parts for the ENTIRE thing on their website. It ain't cheap but I'm also not buying a different pair of headphones either.

ButI'm now starting to build my own music setup and I don't know if I should buy the Beyerdynamic Dt 990 Pro. Is it worth it to switch headphones or is the JBL CLUB ONE good enough? Please let me know
Well they are very separate headphones. The club ones are great sounding headphones for casual and even maybe productivity use. The Dt 990s are for mixing monitoring and getting the closest “real” sound out of an audio production. Even though they do have a place for more leisure use they truly are a workhorse. For a music setup/studio I would use the Dt 990s or 770s. You can definitely still use the ones you have though, they work fine, but still the Beyerdynamic are specifically made for audio design.
I love the DT 990's and used them happily for a year. BUT.... Hifiman HE400is give way better directional audio for gaming. Both are amazing for music though but have different sounding soundstages. I recommend an external amp for both headphones like the JDS Atom and a separate Dac.

It should work but you wont get high volume levels, or at least not 100%! Id suggest going with the 80ohms version for the best quality without a sound card!
Well it will work. The mix amp has an impedance of 32 ohms with can drive them to a decent volume level but it wont max out. However it will still be great quality and in my opinion more than good enough!
Specifically for the 250ohm version, no, they won't work well without an interface. They have a very high impedance meaning they need a lot of power to drive the speakers inside. The 80ohm version would work better without an amp/interface, but even with those, I would suggest getting an amp because even 3.5mm headphones jacks from PCs/Laptops just cannot output enough power to drive even the 80ohm headphones at usable volumes.

Hey, Nick! I have a doubt, please reply this. Why do many gamers use Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro only? I mean there are other better headsets too, right? Such as Beyerdynamic DT 1990 pro. Why don't they use 1990 pro? Will be waiting for reply. :)
I think theres 3 answers to your question. 1 would be mainstream marketing with streamers such as ninja using them. 2 would be affordability over the 1990 pro as they’re much cheaper. 3 for gaming they’re actually pretty good for information input while playing games like FPS shooters. While certainty there are better headsets I think the Dt 990s have set a precedent of good audio quality, affordable pricing and and a variety of users to promote it! Sorry for the long response :p
Personally I would get the sennheisser solely for the mic as you’re playing on console. Both the audio-technica and beyerdynamic are a bit harder to drive and dont come with an included mic, you would need to add something like a mod mic. These are more studio centered headphones rather than gaming!
Hi. I have an GoXLR Mini and want to buy DT 990 PRO . In goxlr discord people says that goxlr is not enough. Are they are wrong? Or i need to push fader up to 100% ? if so. its not an option cause this fader also sends system sound to your stream
Well honestly I don't think the pre amps on the goxlr will drive them 100%. While it will still be usable and you probably wont notice the difference until you get to drive them to it's full potential, I would suggest you try them out and if it's not enough for you get yourself a preamp!
Hey, I recently got my scarlet solo and looking forward to getting this headset. I also want to get an XLR mic, i am just wondering if the 250 ohm headset will affect my mic in anyway? Or do I have to get a headset with a lower ohm?
@nickyo, I have a goXLR mini I use for twitch streaming, movies and gaming. If I buy this headset, do you recommend the 250 or 600ohm? I have been told the 250omh version will not be enough.
The mini has the same pre amps as the full version and they’re actually really decent for an interface! It’s more than enough to drive the 250 ohms if thats what you’re worried about :)
Not particularly. An amp would boost the volume and how crisp the sound is. The problem is the open back style which this headset focuses around. I’d recommend going with a closed back style headset like the Beyerdynamic Dt 770s. They’re as good as the 990s but with a closed back leading to less audio filtration and leakage!
@@Nickyo i tested it and it does work, i did however figure out how to get my amplifier working, and it got a lot louder. just in case anyone out there wants to know!
This shit rocks but I would say the focusrite solo is just not enough to drive them. It's mostly okay during listening but if you actually produce you will notice that it tends to go really quiet.
@@noctrismusic I cant attest to music production since I know nothing of it however I can say that the solo is enough for video editing and casual listening. I have used expensive amp alternatives and what my poor inexperienced ear notices is around 10-20% volume improvement. Quality wise might be different however, again, I wouldn't know the difference if it slapped me in the face.
Do you listen to music with it or just game? I was wondering how it sounds for music. I bought the M50x from Audio Technica, but I don't know, I am looking for something funnier to listen to ... I've been thinking about buying this one and if it sounds better I can still return the M50x. I listen to metal most of the time. What's your opinion? Thank you!
Hey mostly I’ve been editing and watching movies with them and they are fantastic. For music I have a pretty diverse genre but mainly am into post-hardcore/metalcore and you can really get a fixture for every sound aspect. Between these and the M50x I dont think they’re inherently better since both are pretty good quality. It is a different listening experience being open back and I do think the dt 990s are more comfortable once you break them in! Also personally I find that you can hear minute mixing errors with the dt 990s but thats me being picky and trying to find faults in other peoples audio. Sorry for long post; TLDR: leaning towards DT 990s but both great quality!
@@Nickyo is it fun to listen to it? I mean, when I first listened to the M50x I felt like they were too flat for what I listen too (probably because they're studio headphones.) I missed that punchy fun-to-listen bass. How does the 990 pro behave in that bass aspect for your music listening experience? Is it flat like the M50x? The metalcore band I listen to that came to my mind now is Jinjer, they're awesome. Your videos have a great quality and content btw. Congratulations 👏🏻
I’m upgrading to these from the M50x (which I’ll still use for mastering and the like) as I was using the M50x for gaming but they’re horribly uncomfortable after a short time.
Having used the new macbook with fairly decent pre amps id say with the Focusrite interface you’re getting anywhere near 80-90% volume, it may also depend on the generation but id say its still usable or is it too low?
@@Nickyo no it’s defiantly usable, just noticed it was quieter than other headphones. Thanks for the info though! I just also read online this is pretty normal as well so I don’t have a dodgy pair haha.
They are open back for mixing to let the bass escape, so the mix wont sound muddy like they do with closed back headphones....and that Scarlett Solo really cant push it...try a Motu M4 or an SSL 2+...best budget interfaces
I want these but im confused on what mic to get for these headphones and how to run them to a compatible dac/amp. Right now i just have hyper x cloud and its a simple usb plug and play.
Try plugging them into a normal headphone jack and see if they sound "loud" enough for you, if that fails an amp would be your best bet and thats basically just adding gain or volume to the headphones!
@@Nickyo at least they last for a really long time, 10 years are no problem for these, sure you need to take care that you dont abuse the cable but even then you can repair it. it is much easier than repairing headphones from other companys, and even then if you dont want or can repair them by yourself just give them to some on who can or even send them to bayerdynamic to repair. the whole situation is more userfriendly than other buy it, use itand trash it products at the same price range.
Hey man I was wondering, I'm only 14 so I live in a house with siblings and my family. My house sometimes gets loud with everyone home and also my pc and little mini fridge. Should I see that as a problem and go with the 770s or still go with the 990s?
Well, I live next to a river and a main avenue which gets extremely loud at times. I can still manage to use the Dt 990s fine but sound from outside does filter in. If you are having external noise issues I would recommend the 770s entirely. Depends on how loud your house can get 😶
I want to buy these headphones, and I do have an amp, but I would also like to be able to use the headphones on my phone, even if they don't sound as good as with an amp, would it be possible to use them with my phone? Thanks in advance
Depends where you buy them from. If you have amazon prime usually 2-3 days. If you but them from a site like Sweetwater id expect anywhere from 2-5 days!
They make a variant that isn't coiled. I believe it's much shorter though. I will say that the weight of the cable does mean something. Quality cables are thicker and have more shielding to prevent interference. This betters sound quality.
Sorry for late reply - Not really, it would just be a different gaming setup entirely, Id stick with something thats wireless and more focused towards gaming rather than studio headphones
It depends on your budget. Past 100$ anything like the Shiit Fulla 3, Sound BlasterX G6, or the FiiO K3 are great options. A budget option would be the FiiO E10k which should run it fine or a HeadAmp4 which will drive it a bit low! Lots of options out there though to try and match your budget!
@@xavoer Shiit Fulla 3, Sound BlasterX G6, or the FiiO K3 are between 110-130 id recommend any of those three. Moreover if you have something like an audio interface for a mic you could try driving them with it and see how it measures up! Im partial to the Shiit Fulla 3 since its an all in one solution for both 3.5mm mic inputs and a great DAC also a very minimalist design!
@@Nickyo sorry bud I was listening with my 990's but the s was still really sharp when I switched to my audiotechnica headset. I thought it was the mic you were using tbh. No offence meant.
Nono its fine I actually found out about it with the 990s, they really catch every single imperfection. There are a lot of youtube video I cant actually listen to with them because of it 😂
Do I really need a amp I don’t want to spend money on one to be honest like is the audio really that bad? I was just wondering if I can just plug into my pc and it won’t be as bad
It depends on which headphones you have. The 250ohm's really do need an amp, the louder you push the volume the more power you need to give the headphones. In the case of the 250ohm variant, you need to output at LEAST 250ohms at 100% volume. If you don't, you can get distorted and/or low volume. Like if you had a GoXLR, 100% volume through one of those tends to be in the 75-80% range in reality. The headphones just can't get enough power to from that amp to get loud enough.
Thanks for the great feedback, really appreciate it 🎧🔥
Thank you for the amazing product :)

Well I wouldnt go out of my way to buy it if you have the amp4, but it does raise the volume like 10-20%
Do they have an inbuilt mic or do you have to buy another mic to talk to other people
They do not have a mic!
So i recently got these headphones for christams and the volume isn’t loud enough at all is there anyway to make them louder?
Yes buying an amp with better pre amps can make a world of difference!
@@Nickyo so i would need to buy an amp to make them louder? does it matter which one i buy? thanks for getting back so soon!
Thank you for getting straight to the point!
if their a bit tight just bend the top to your liking worked for me and didn't snap
@@Nickyo well ... i don't have the opportunity to test them before buying
Hey,
I recently got my scarlet solo and looking forward to getting this headset. I also want to get an XLR mic, i am just wondering if the 250 ohm headset will affect my mic in anyway? Or do I have to get a headset with a lower ohm?
It wont affect it whatsover, the preamps on the solo are decent but you wont be able to drive the headphones to 100%, rather 85-90%
Bruh my cable isn’t coiled do you know why?
Is it the black version?
@@Nickyo yes
What amp do you recommend because I'm having the problem where the audio is very low
Depends on your budget: Either a FiiO or a SoundBlaster G6
@@Nickyo thank u sm
What interface you use to power the headphone?
Do they have a built in mic?
No
@nickyo, I have a goXLR mini I use for twitch streaming, movies and gaming. If I buy this headset, do you recommend the 250 or 600ohm? I have been told the 250omh version will not be enough.
The mini has the same pre amps as the full version and they’re actually really decent for an interface! It’s more than enough to drive the 250 ohms if thats what you’re worried about :)
just ordered a pair that came with a Rockville DAC/AMP unit
replacing my OPPO PM-3'S ive been using for over a decade lol
I came here for headset left confused about how bass has anything to do with bass.
What Amplifiers would you guys recommend for this headset ?
Any amp that can produce at least 300ohm's
Guys, help me. I'm currently choosing between Sennheiser hd 560s and this headset, which would you buy and why?
Do you find you can hear your pc fans a lot louder?
Well they are open back so you do get more background feedback but personally I dont hear my fans at all!
@@Nickyo would an amp help to block it out at all?
Not particularly. An amp would boost the volume and how crisp the sound is. The problem is the open back style which this headset focuses around. I’d recommend going with a closed back style headset like the Beyerdynamic Dt 770s. They’re as good as the 990s but with a closed back leading to less audio filtration and leakage!
do you drive these with your focusrite scarlett? or with a separate headphone amp
I drive them with the focusrite scarlett solo and it gets incredibly loud.
@@Nickyo thanks!
These are definitely 10/10 comfort wise. Specially after the break in period they seem to just float on your head!
@@Nickyo Awesome thanks! Can't wait for them to arrive.
yes, they are one of my favorites!!
I’ve got my plugged I to my focusrite 2i2 and switched the knob all the way up and the volume is not that loud at all?
The DT 770 Pro are closed backs and don't sound muddy either. But the typical beyer peak is just too much (sibilance) at least for me.
What’s the amp you use? I’m in the market for one
I like how you never got an answer to that question
you can change the cable from the dt 990 pro, but you need to know how to solder. the cables are thik and spare parts are available by bayerdynamic.
Yup but it takes disassembly not very consumer friendly for MOST people. On the newer versions they’ve changed this and now its a removable cable!
Yup!
I didnt see that it didnt have sound cancelling, I guess I just have to get used to it
Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface is this the correct one?
Correct!
@@Nickyo thank you! I’m ordering it today!
@@Nickyo would goxlr be good for these?
Yeah the GoXLR will drive these at around 95-100%!
@@Nickyo cheers thank you!
If its a newer phone it should be fine!
@@Nickyo thanks!
Hey man! If I get some how long would it usually take to get deliver? (I’m in the US)
Depends where you buy them from. If you have amazon prime usually 2-3 days. If you but them from a site like Sweetwater id expect anywhere from 2-5 days!
@@Nickyo I bought it from their actual website....how long would it take?
Id expect around a full week!
Are these any good for piano? I have a Yamaha Montage and i need some headphones to play at midnight.
I have a pretty big head, i broke my Logitech G headphones after a while just from wearing em, could i use these?
SOOO if I'm streaming, the audio will be picked up by my mic??? :o
Nono its a big exaggeration, some aound does spill only if you have it dialed to the max and with a really good amp!
When I plug it in in the rear of my pc, it detects it as 'headphones' I click OK, but it doesn't give me a sound, do you know why?
Really wanted to like these but the heavy coiled cable was killing it for me had to return
They make a variant that isn't coiled. I believe it's much shorter though. I will say that the weight of the cable does mean something. Quality cables are thicker and have more shielding to prevent interference. This betters sound quality.
Can someone please send me or tell me the name of that red amp? I cant quite make out what you are saying
Focusrite Scarlett Solo
Sick video bro
Glad you enjoyed it! A lot more coming soon :)
Would you recommend these for the ps5 with a Amp?
Sorry for late reply - Not really, it would just be a different gaming setup entirely, Id stick with something thats wireless and more focused towards gaming rather than studio headphones
Do you need an amp or can you just plug in your pc?
Lately ive been connecting it straight to the pc and it works fine but for the best audio experience (very big difference) id get an amp
What amp do you think is good for it
It depends on your budget.
@@Nickyo 150$ probably
@@xavoer Shiit Fulla 3, Sound BlasterX G6, or the FiiO K3 are between 110-130 id recommend any of those three. Moreover if you have something like an audio interface for a mic you could try driving them with it and see how it measures up! Im partial to the Shiit Fulla 3 since its an all in one solution for both 3.5mm mic inputs and a great DAC also a very minimalist design!
@@Nickyo for the Sound BlasterX G6 will you need to buy separate cords to plug it into the amp then to the pc ??
Everything should come included
Do we need a mic and other things
Yes the headphones do not come with a mic!
Sir. Thanks
But tell me how to use DT990pro headphones ???
I'm putting in my interface No sound?
What interface do you have?
@@Nickyo Third -Generation 2 -In ,2-Out USB Aideo Interface
Are you plugging it in on the farthest right port, the headphone monitoring port?
I also have a focusrite scarlet solo, if i buy a dt 990 pro will it be enough so I can listen to the audio loud and clear?
Its what I use on a daily basis, its more than enough :)
There are kits to modify these headphones to make the cable removable.
Not everyone wants to risk that. Because in the worst case they are trash after doing something wrong.
What amp are you using for it?
Using an audio interface. Focusrite Scarlett Solo
Your s's come across super sharp.
Like a whistle at the end of every s
Its my natural voice sibilance, really difficult to fix in post
@@Nickyo sorry bud I was listening with my 990's but the s was still really sharp when I switched to my audiotechnica headset.
I thought it was the mic you were using tbh.
No offence meant.
Nono its fine I actually found out about it with the 990s, they really catch every single imperfection. There are a lot of youtube video I cant actually listen to with them because of it 😂
the only cheap thing here is the super nice video quality and editing ! :D
what?
congratulations. you've achieved a new form of expression where you are both complimenting and complaining about the same thing at the same time.
I know I'm late and this doesn't have anything to do with video but what keyboard is that?
HyperX Alloy Origina Core TKL with red switches! I did a review way back if you want to check it out
Do I really need a amp I don’t want to spend money on one to be honest like is the audio really that bad? I was just wondering if I can just plug into my pc and it won’t be as bad
It depends on which headphones you have. The 250ohm's really do need an amp, the louder you push the volume the more power you need to give the headphones. In the case of the 250ohm variant, you need to output at LEAST 250ohms at 100% volume. If you don't, you can get distorted and/or low volume. Like if you had a GoXLR, 100% volume through one of those tends to be in the 75-80% range in reality. The headphones just can't get enough power to from that amp to get loud enough.
