Completely agree! Seems like most articles about the early years of the band talk about Boon's depression issues, and ignore the fact that he was an exceptional guitarist.
Thank you khan606,man alive I’ve followed this band since love meeting love back In the early eighties. Loved seeing boon really enjoying this. Thanks mate.😊
knowing now that Mark and Boon were best mates, it's so sad that Boon is gone. You can really see the connection between them and for sure Mark was so jazzed to have Boon take the stage on his birthday for the last time. I love Boon's playing...one of my favorites...he just had the "IT" factor. His solo stuff is great too!!!
As a Brit this band passed me by in the 80’s for no other reason that I was into so much other retro jazz stuff then. Having subsequently focused on their work they were, are a musical force never ever to be forgotten. So so sad re Boon …looks happy here.
I was gonna learn the bassline for " The Chinese Way ", and it took me three months ro nail. A little while after, I went to see Level 42 live, and they actually started with this song. It`s a slightly complicated bassline, if you haven`t played that long, but Mark King didn`t even fucking glance at the fretboard, his fingers were just flying around !!!!!!!
Okay, so it looks like I'm buying A Physical Presence next time I'm in the city. Boon was just sensational, as are the others. Level 42 really were unique.
Although they are still very very good ....this is level 42...listen to the little nuances you do t hear these days ..boons guitar...gouldies drum breaks.... 👌👌👌💥💥
the word 'even' is NOT necessary in your comment but truly thank you for pointing out the subtlety of our musical experience…While we all try to exist in 2022… 😚
Thank God they broke into the U.S., I went out and bought World Machine. I was usually only playing guitar back then, but I found myself plugging a mic into my guitar amp and singing along with it. I found that I had the capacity to do vocals. My next purchase was Level 42, and I was BLOWN AWAY from their first album! One of my top of all time. Bought many more of their releases...have never heard a bad song! In the USA, so many people only had heard Something About You...I've tried to promote this band as best I can. I realized that the only one's who were impressed were other musicians. That's such an issue with me pertaining to the general public. With my age group, it's like there's a list of songs (mostly classic rock) that got radio play...and that's all they will listen to for the rest of their boring lives.
Yes, a criminally underrated or at least, overlooked by too many. Boon was an amazing musician/guitarist with tones of feel, soul and a unique sense of meter and phrasing. He is killing it here...RIP Maestro!
i saw them in 1980 ish ? at ilford esat london room at ther top club brill bad ,,,then saw them 4 years ago in ipswich sufork still brill ,thy r going to be there again soon i think ? or norwich norfork uk ,il be there,
Formative Years spent wanking while turning pages and listening for feet on the stairs. They say We can't multi task but it's because We wore ourselves out when We were Younger. Actually who am I kidding, somethings remain that's just muscle memory. 😁
To add extra kudos to Marks playing ability is that he is naturally Left Handed but plays on bass guitars fot Right Handed player's... My theory on how he did this & sing at the same time was due to Mark originally playing drums as thats what he what he wanted to be his first main instrument to play & on drums you learn to use both hands in various ways of playing all over the drum kit whether im right or not doesnt matter as he some how managed to play right handed & sang at the same time... Every one in Level 42 had their own unique style & were top musicans that also wrote & co-wrote their own songs... .....
Joe Dart is good, but he was far from the first person to play 16th note fingerstyle funk. Check out Jaco, or Francis Rocco Prestia from Tower of Power. Joe owes them his living really.
Magic! Fourty years ago! What a feeling, a groove, an energy! Simply Fantastic!
Level 42's first lineup is simply sublime
Too right

Boon's guitar work 😃! They were tight here, no other word for it! 'The Level 42 😁'

It's nice to see Boon so happy. I always thought he looked pissed off or unhappy on later videos. Maybe that's why he and Phil left.
Back when bands contained musicians and not just empty shills miming to formula derived backing tracks.

The band's called Level 42 because that's how many levels Mark King is above practically every other bassist on the planet.
Different class 👌🏻RIP Boon
Boom....what a class act. RIP

Well that bridge section totally melted faces ... then inspired me to dance & play air bass in my undies ...
Level 42. The Hungry Years. On the cusp of being Huuuuuuuge!
You can see even in their early years the quality of their musical talent . Still going strong today not to forget they lost their colleague boon .

While I appreciate all the fanfare fare for boon, Lets not forget the pocket that phil gould provides.
Una lástima la partida de los hermanos Gould el año 86después no fue lo mismo.
