Truly one the greatest bands ever 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦 Boon was very underrated .
Mark King and Phil Gould, great rhythm section. RIP Boon.
I can easily play that on drums
@@PeterHottonok?
@@PeterHottonso they weren't great then- is that Your point?
They were the perfect musicians! Man did I ever love them! Still do now! I have listened to them every day since I've discovered them from the early eighties. Seen them live in Toronto Canada back then and it ended up being the most awesome concert I've ever been to.
3:32 HOLY CRAP !!! This is the FIRST time I've ever seen Boon play keys !!!
4:24 You know you've made it when you have a sweat wiping tech !
4:48 I've never seen the entire band on percussion !!!
Insanely talented band, I always thought Phil Gould was overlooked as a drummer because of Mark Kings' percussive bass but it takes a very good drummer to keep it all together. Always been a fan since the early 80's.
GREAT BLENDING OF SOUND...
BASS PLAYER IS BRILLIANT....
It certainly does I'm a drummer 😊
YES that's true
It might sound weird to Us that know but I think Mark is also underated- whenever I get Google lists of 4 string players come up, He's never in any. Flea always is though- come on!! Fucks Sake! Never is Louis Johnson or Mark in one, so Im guessing its not just because its purely American oriented.I don't get that though, Louis was amazing and Mark is just off the scale.
Exactly why L42 are the best live band you'll ever see....... Genius!
They bloody are
👏👏Well said there will never be another mark king
Just an insanely good bass line from start to finish. One of the best slap bass lines out there.
Mark had only been playing Bass for about 5 years prior to this performance..
you all probably dont care at all but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Demetrius Jaylen instablaster =)
@Jude Steven I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jude Steven it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
I first heard about this group "Level 42" when I was living in Europe in the military. Mark King's slapping bass guitar is awesome - he reminds me of Stanley Clarke. 🎸
Magical sounding, thunderous deep drums
Saw them for the first time on this tour in Blackburn ,stood at the front of the stage ,was in awe of mark ,went out and bought a jaydee and trace Elliot right away and still have them to this day.
God I love the sound of Phils kit here.
They were at their best then. Because the Gould brothers were in the band.
Spot on so crisp
Agreed. And Boon seemed to have a really humble air about him.
@@FlavourlessLife yeah, cuz humbleness makes anyone a better musician
@@iansmith8263 You got it Brother.. 👍
Hell yeah...OGs!!!
Rip Boon Gould
Ah man gutted, found out by reading this.
Best bassist ever, just the fact that at 2.18 Mark's still slapping away and chatting to Boon nonchalantly. Fan since 81
Ditto
Best funk bass line ever. 43‼️💥
yet another fantastic performance from the world's greatest band, their music will live forever.
Phil is absolutely at his prime ! The other mates too… my fav song !!!
My favorite band with RUSH since the 80's. Early Level 42 was SO damn amazing and hardly anybody knew of them. They'd still be a forgotten band had it not been for the legions of bass players on RUclips...
Not often you get L42 and Rush paired up. I'm with you.
@@jeremybentliff948 You wouldn't believe how many there are of us, Jeremy. I have posted my sentiments and other bass players have said, "Me too ! Rush and Level 42." They are two of my "Mt. Rushmore" bands. The others being Stanley Clarke / RTF, and Allan Holdsworth / Jimmy Johnson, etc. IOU.
@@michaelb.42112 You on Facebook? We might have a few convergent interests?
I just added you, Jeremy. 🎸🎸
Fuck they were brilliant muso's. Loud fast n in the pocket to a tee. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was there. Today i am 60. Fan from the Beginning.
Martin from Bochum. Location was "Zeche" Bochum
Level 42 at their peak. SO tight!
Best Bass player in the World!
Incredible track from an amazing band. I saw them live twice in the early 80's and of course we have Marks insane bass playing and Mike Lindup is superb on the keys, but Phil Gould...what a drummer! that groove has has going is like a Jeff Pocaro special!
Phil Gould was such an economical drummer but his groove was a tight as they come. The comparison with Jeff Pocaro is spot on. Seriously underrated drummer.
@@mattthoumine7427 Totally agree with you Matt
I'd probably have to throw Stewart Copeland in there, too. Not to undermine Gould or Porcaro - it's hard to say who the best is - if I say Bonham, I leave out Gould, if I say Gould I leave out Porcaro, if I say Porcaro, I leave out Tony Thompson, on and on ,,
Copeland is incredible both as a drummer and as a personality. That‘s what makes him stick out.
But I also love Phil. He is so tight, yet so economical. No showing off (sorry PRB) 😉
Best live version of this track I've ever heard! Love the long drum solo with mike and mark on percussion with phil.
Been following them for 30 years now and i still love this song, i've nearly mastered it now and would live to play a version live - long live the King !
WOW!!! Absolutely incredible!!!🎼🎸🎹🥁
An all time great from wonderful musicians
Best 43 I’ve heard yet. Super sickkk❤
My last comment on this ! I reckon the band were absolutely at their peak that night.
prove it
ah yes!! perfect tempo on this performance of 43. Phil you completely nailed it on this one wow!!
RIP Boon ❤️
imagine being in a group where literally every member knows how to play drums, holy shit.
wow... level 42 at their best... such a skilled band
If you weren't aware already you can buy the 2 Live Shows that Level 42 played at the German Television Series " Rockpalast " which this is taken from...
The amount of huge solo act's & band's that put on Live Gigs on that show were all big well known act's & i've been meaning to check if i can get a hold of the many other one's that played at the " Rockpalast " & are also on DVD...
You get 2 Full Level 42 Live Gigs for the price of one which I think were about 1 year apart & i deny any Level 42 fan to say that the JD Supernatural Series Series 1 Bass Guitar that he predominantly played with along with other models of JD Bass Guitars that Mark used sound so much better than the Status Bass Guitar's that Mark eventually went on to play as his go to bass guitar...
But here's thing, i thought for decades that it was the Status Bass Guitar's that didn't sound as good by their inventor & builder Master Luthier Rob Green until i finally decide to buy a preowned 2015 Status Series II Bass Guitar in almost mint condition, as firstly it was an itch i just had to scratch, & it was a sweet looking bass guitar...
I received my Status Series II Bass Guitar via post in mid December 2020 because of the severe strick Full Lockdown rules that are still ongoing in my country & once i plugged it in & played it i wasn't surprised at how versatile a bass guitar this was except when i set this bass guitar up for that well known Mark King sound, as i expected it to be like Mark's weak sound, but it sounded so much better through my old (but in excellent condition) Trace Elliot GP11 MKV... Of course they don't sound like JD Bass Guitar's but they are definitely now as bad at going for the Mark King sound than i thought for so many year's...
The JD Bass Guitar's went on to become a well sought after bass guitar predominantly because of seeing & hearing Mark King play his & i can only put down the difference between my Status sound & Mark's is because of his preferred settings & his change to TC Electronics Amps as my Status Series II sounded so good i tracked down another preowned Status KingBass Artist a few weeks later & bought that too...
I guess its a case of " Each To Their Own " & Mark has his preferred settings just as other bassists have theirs but I've got to be honest & say his sound on the various Status Basses he's used don't do those Status Bass Guitar's real justice & although i'll always prefer the JD Bass Guitar's sound but im glad i took that leap & eventually bought 1 & then another 1 a few weeks apart as they are truly well crafted instruments that do have their own sound too but not as tinny & weak sounding as what Mark gets out of his...
Still an amazing bassist that also has great finger playing style also & i think most fan's will always long for & prefer the original line up but the musician's that have come in to replace the 2 Gould Brother's & then gone have been top drawer also & its great to see that they still play Live gigs & Tour just as much now as they did in their earlier years & where they get the drive to do this 4 Decades later makes them even more special in my eyes...
RIP Alan Murphy
RIP Rowland " Boon " Gould
In light of this still ongoing coronavirus stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world...
.....
My favourite drummer.
Man, I love this tune. That bit from 2.55 onwards.
As great as ever...
I'm in the UK. Rockplastz produced great shoes in the 80s and 90s 👍🏿
🦋Everything about this jazzy/funky piece is enchanting, especially the otherworldly middle break, the keyboards especially coming through in a cosmic way. The keyboards are tightly percussive too! And of course all the other players. I have just started playing Persian/Arabic drums. Although it’s very different, I love what they’re doing here.
‘Heathrow’ has certainly taken me to another place! Thank you 🦋
the drum solo part from 4:12 onwards is best. makes me think of a Santana ticket I had for a coronavirus-cancelled gig: oh, how I was looking forward to the drum solo parts of the set...
RIP Boon :'( lest we forget!
So much better than the new inception of the band.
Mark King the best I love you mark King for ever ❤
This segment of the song 🎵 ❤👍 02:55 the f'ing groove just kicks ass! Then this happens @ 04:45 !! Wow!
I was born in 1987, and I grew up listening to Level42. The best era. Or like this modern rubbish!
So incredibly tight!!! WOW!!
A perfect bass! And nothing else! Our German TV-men knew about the focus. What they left, is an enormous thunderstorm of drums and bass...
The song itself is left behind. I´ll better pick up my LP
Just freaking brilliant.....
i love this song, i fly in paradise
With me......no?......Un sai cosa ti perdi!!!!!
damn this is funky!
grande brano e grande performance!
Why.......43......e non....444?
love the change at 2::54 the journey starts when i heard this now i think yea level were professionals
Greatness
It should be illegal to play bass so well!!! #Levelhead4life
Now you know that Mike was a drummer before he converted to the bass. Eventually he came to be a percussive bass player, GREAT 👍
Mark.......not mike.
Just sayin'
This is so FUNKY!
And...poppeggiante?
zagor tenay : Love that term!
sublime....
Davvero?.....che bella parola!!!!!
To everyone on percussion - wow!
THIS IS MORE THEN: "THE 12 INCH" (SPECIAL VERSION OF SONGS) THIS IS A REAL: "43 INCH LONG VERSION." LEVEL 42 HAS SOME SPECIAL ALBUMS WITH SPECIAL VERSIONS. BUT THIS VERSION OF: "43" IS VERRY SPECIAL.
I had speed to 1.25 from another video, and I was wtf lol - Nice vid :D
fantastic linear changes through the bridge
Gotta learn that bassline somehow! 😀
