This is a big part of why the 70s were the greatest decade for music. We had jazz, funk, jazz fusion, prog, psychedelic, medieval-classical, hard rock, Gaelic and Welsh rock, and so many shades of "experimental" that didn't fit into any category at all. This was the decade of Zappa, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Weather Report, Stanley Clarke, Jean Luc Ponty and Parliament. Etc.
