Jaco at this point in time was going through a difficult period in his life. His health was failing, family falling apart, but yet he could still play such angelic music.. I always have tears in my eyes watching this guy express himself in this video alongside with Toots.. Jaco Pastorius for ever🙏

Bro! This album was a masterpiece. Three Views was written for Ingrid, his Indonesian wife. John and Mary, his two children from a previous marraige. When I listen to Three views, i always get a bit sad. He was in love with a beautiful woman, which is supposed to be one of the happiest times in your life, but he was fighting these mental demons. Joe Zawinul, one of Jaco's biggest pseudo critics(because nobody could hate Jaco, he could frustrate you but nobody could hate Jaco) loved this song

The tormented lives of artists will never be fully characterized in words. They are simply too connected with all that presents to them as modern reality - the failings & fortunes - the cup runneth over. We will miss them terribly & also celebrate them in their glories, for that is the only good way to 'remember' their arts.

reminds me of their concert in Osaka, Japan with Jako´s Big Band in 1981-2 or so...the crowd was very polite and quiet until Toots came out, sat on a bar stool and blew the top off the place and the crowd went wild. The band picked up on the energy and he and Jako burned the place down... in the end, the audience stood for 20min and wouldnt let them leave...unreal, just masters of the magical...

So 1- Jaco stands and starts playing the DX; 2- He looks Toots with this "check out this sound" look; 3- Toots looks like "What are you doing man?"; 4- then Jaco is "I know man, it's sounding bad... sorry for that" and goes back to the piano; 5- Jaco leaves that behind and at 3'15 he is smiling again. Amo esses caras!

this song can be recreated, but never redone like toots and jaco did in this video. this specific playing of this song is so errie to me, jacos declining mental health is seen so vividly here and hes still able to play beautifully. Im writing this on jacos day of passing and i can only imagine what kind of impact he could have if he was alive today

Jacob's music is so specific, I can spot it a mile away. My fav tune of his is John and Mary, what a tour that song is.

BACK FOR REFLECTION, INTROSPECTION & INSPIRATION: O Man, look at the sheer joy and delight in Jaco's face and generally disposition. Sadly missed and a true musician. This piece is amongst my favorite standards. Awesome all-round performance.

I totally agree with justJunya - loved it, never saw it previously. Thinking so much about Jaco Pastorius lately - watching, reading, listening - really something so special about him that touches so many, even all these years later. Precious soul, wished I known him!

These two had a connection early on that never waivered, still very strong through the music in spite of Jaco's issues....lots of LOVE from these two amazing artists!! Amazing clip!

Two absolute geniuses. This is a flawless, brilliant performance with everything that Jaco brings as a composer and his musicianship. I met Jaco at the Beacon Theater on NYC Westside and it is a treasured memory even 30 years later.

Hard to add to what has already been said. A most timeless and moving masterpiece performed by 2 true masters who are hopefully playing a great gig in the sky.
