the best thing about jazz festival is, the sound engineers are top notch and you could hear details of every instruments played. man that bass drum sound mixed very well with mark's bass tone
Way different from the rock/metal sound engineers that suck more and more year after year 😢 I hope to see them live one day, amazing music played by amazing musicians!
Playing bass like that is hard enough ,but to be able to sing over the Top of it ..the whole band is incredible .musicians at the top of there Game !!!!
Wow this takes me back to being a 16/17 yr old who loved their music but never really appreciated what great musicians level 42 were, I’m appreciating it now as a 58 yr old ❤
Fantastic musicians. Mark King is a God in the bass world. Having dabbled a bit with bass, I have no idea how he does the thumb thing. Total talent combined with genius is my guess. Wonderful.
Classic! Heard this song live in 1983 at a gig at the Zeche in Bochum, Germany.. Small place, small crowd, but damn : That gig was intense! R.I.P Boon Gould..
I have played bass for many many years, and let me tell you this,, to play is one thing, but to play and sing is another... I can't even begin to tell you how difficult it would be to sing and play such an intricate and busy bass line like Mark king is playing in this song. He is from another planet. Total respect to a legend. I salute you. ✊👏👏👏👏👏🙏
Yes, this was the First thing what I must learned 😂 at first time I‘ve tried this. Its realy heavy to do both things together. Its Not like guitar and sing.
One of my favourite songs, of you level 42, and of anyone . Great performance, I really like it because it feels like listening to the studio version, all the musical parts are faithful, and played in a loveable way. L42 ❤ for ever
I met both Mike and Mark in the green room at the Croydon gig. Did we talk about the music, no we talked about ordernary stuff. With Mike we talked about his mum living near to us. With Mark we talked about age. Forget the important number being 42. In Marks head he is still 23 and so is his dad. Two such lovely guys who took the time to talk about everyday stuff. Btw when I was 23 I was up to fabulous 4 albums with Stand in the Light and the first time I saw them live. So 23 is very important to me.
I was only 16 when I saw Level 42 with my first love ❤️ seen them again in October 2023 in Glasgow with my first love 😂 we met again in 2021 after 38 years, they are just amazing and I want to say thank you to David for re-introducing them into my life again, I want love in a peaceful world! Our song 🎵 Love you xxxx Mark King you are the greatest bass player I’ve ever seen……

Wow, i follow them since 1980! I played them many times as a DJ, always LOVED this mix of Pop/Jazz/Funk! This video is as good as it gets: Very nice place, nice quality video and audio, a very good band able to play their song like champs, everything is in there! Kudos Level 42! The only sad thing, never had the chance to saw them live: They came very near me at "Festival d'été de Québec" in 2019 but couldn't go... just hope they'll come back sooner than later!
Hervorragender Rhythmus. Typisch aus den 80er Jahren. In diesem Jahrzehnt sind viele Bands gegründet worden, die es heutzutage zumindest noch in abgespeckter Besetzung gibt.
Awesome drummer. Deserves some sort of award or..mosque? P.S. Amazed at how Mark and Mike's'voices (without voicebox or other tricks) siill sound like as if it was 1981-90.
God dammit, you guys rule. I've only ever casually heard some Level 42 over the years but when you guys announced your first ever Australian tour in 2020 I did a deep dive and have become so obsessed with your entire catalogue! I'm saddened to see the 2020 COVID dates were never rescheduled... though I'm assuming ticket sales weren't strong enough for Australia so it just never happened, a damn shame, I would love to see this performed live. I hope a tour ensues down here one day. You've certainly got at least one new fan in Perth, Western Australia!
Guten Abend, liebe Leute ...der Schlagzeuger ist sooooo genial Ich liebe seine Spiel Affinität, mit dem leidenschaftlichen ....bums ! Danke & tschusssii Peter
Yup. The whole group is outstanding and the drummer is good. Lots of quick tempo changes in their music and he's on top of it. And, like the rest of them, he's having FUN. It must be really cool to have fun be your JOB.
"Love Games, yeah?" And within a second he proceeds to play something magical I can only dream of playing. Not to mention that killer improvisation before it. This man is something else, what an absolute legend.
As I watch your face I can see my life go by You mean everyhing to me Just can't take no more Throw a smile my way And the pain I feel inside Turns to love for you And I'm yours Do lovers ever need to hide The things they really fell inside I simply need you yo need me Can't you see Once I hoped to be Your lover and your friend It just can't go on Your love games Your love games Do lovers ever need to hide The things they really feel inside If you won't show your heart to me Set me free Now the time has come To show you how I feel The love I gave to you I can't give no more Even now I see The salt tears n your eyes But it can't go on Your love games Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Mark King / Philip Gabriel Gould

Such a phenomenal Bassist and Singer🙌🏽 His voice hasn't changed with age 🙌🏽 One of those things I wished I pursued as a youth. I So wanted to be a bass player, drummer and actress. Im 56 mext next week and wasted my life 😤🙄

I remember hearing this in the early eighties and thinking wow this guy can play the bass Kinda of inspired me to try slapping this and a bit of Stanley is still the only stuff I try to copy He is still the man 😎
Mark King is known for his energetic performances, particularly his complex slap bass playing, which can be physically demanding. Chewing gum might help him stay relaxed, maintain focus, and keep his mouth from drying out while singing. It could also be a habit that helps him manage the physical demands of performing for long periods. For some musicians, chewing gum can be a way to relieve nervous tension or maintain rhythm while multitasking on stage.
The only guy who sings chewing gum and plays bass at the same time a real king
Really!! Gum!!
And sing bassing harcore
AND HE IS LEFT-HANDED....He has chewed gum forever...prob like 1980 or so
It was part of the era
Legend has it he's been chewing it since the 80s....
Mark King is simply one of the best bass players of all time.
He is the truly best and surely a genius!
Hell yeah
the best*
Amazing xx
Yepp but Stanley Clarke too
hand for the drummer - what a groove and watching Mark all the time to make sure it fits - what a star
The guy on the keys... OMG!!! The Sax!!! Perfect jam...
Superb musicians at the top of their game. Why this group doesn't get more recognition is a crime.
They still have their audience, but the kids listen to hip-hop or techno. Nowadays people get used to computer-music. What a loss.
This was only from about 10 years ago when they weren’t very famous, in the 80’s they were recognised and popular and very famous
The best
@@funklover24by t shirts
they sold 30 million copies. so you were perhaps not aware. all their gigs are sellouts.
The drummer is kicking ass. What a rhythm section
He's really great. Hard to measure up to Gary Husband though.
And let us not forget the original Boon Gould monsters all
@@marcchervin8905👍Boon Gould guitar - Phil Gould drums
Petey Ray is fucking KILLING it by any measure. It's not a competition.
Mark King is the rhythm section. No complainings.
Coca cola is too good sometimes!!!
You hope you could jam as this 1 day.

Level 42 started the jazz funk movement in the UK and then crossed over to become one of the biggest bands of the 80s.......Mark King is a legend 😉
63yes
There's nothing quite like a Mike Lindup harmony. Mark King's vocal is flawless and what he plays while singing is insane. Amazing band
Pursuit of Accidents a great album.
Been following these guys since the 80's. One of my FAVORITE bands !!!!!
Pursuit of Accidents great album.
@@GarryWootton Excellent Excellent Album !!!! Bought my copy when I was in the Netherlands

You are Right! Im 55 now, and i just realized, they are a genius with their arrangements and music at that time
Sounds as good today as the 1st time I heard this in ‘82 , just magnificent
Fantastic musicians. Mark King is a God in the bass world. Having dabbled a bit with bass, I have no idea how he does the thumb thing. Total talent combined with genius is my guess. Wonderful.
Mark is still a Monster Bass player, Absolute slap Bass Legend, 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌🏽🎸🤙🏽🔥🔥🏴The Drummer is fantastic,he keeps better time than a Rolex,
I agree but Rolex is the wrong analogy, Rolex keep terrible time! Like mins out a month. Grand Seiko would be better👍
Mark's sense of groove is phenomenal to me and I'm a guitarist. Not even talking about his tone .freaking amazing band.
Mark sings, play bass and synchro he jew a gum. Who else is doing that. He's a living legend😊
chew gum we know what you are saying
My greatest disappointment, having lived in the UK, was not seeing Level 42 in concert, live.
One of my alltime favorite bands. ♨️💯🇨🇦🇨🇦
