Great comparison review. my top three pics from this line up would be the Axwell.,Aviator and PulseX1. Currently using an OD aluminum Ridge I have had since 2018, for now ;) Probably the most surprising thing about my Ridge is that in nearly 5 years of daily carry, I have not yet had to change the elastic strap. It is still as reliable as the day I bought it.
After watching the video what I learned is that, Ridge is still the top dog. All of these had things/features that are unnecessary, cluttered, wobbly(the first one, what the heck it makes noises i'd go crazy), etc. Thank you for the video, I realized that there are none so far that can match Ridge. I hope to see more designs that come out in the future. I will definitely be opened to check out other wallets
The thing they don’t tell you is that the friction of sliding cards on each other is that other a year or so the color and numbers will start to fade off, leaving you with nasty looking cards. That is unless you only have metal cards. So for now I think I’ll stick to my regular nice wallet.
I have had the grip 6 for almost 2 years and my cards still look perfect. The leather sleeve is showing some wear, but the machanical part still works as it did the day I unboxed it
I suppose it depends how often you're pulling your cards out. I have a basic leather wallet that shears the finish off the numbers of my card(s). But I'm honestly just more worried about the hard edges boring a hole in my pants.
No one ever mentions the Slim Clip !! I have had mine over 13 years !!! Still holds everything tight and is as minimal as one can get !!! “No more bulky wallets “ !!!!
I wonder if anyone can answer this. I have a badge I use to clock in and unlock doors at work. If I have a metal wallet like these will my bad still work through the wallet or will I need to take the badge out every time.
You may need to take it out every time. not sure what sorta technology yours uses, but being on the mountain a ski pass wouldnt work if it was next to a phone. Not sure about my wallet though
I had just received my Ridge, and I was looking for a tutorial on its use. What I found were videos showing that not only is the Ridge minimalist wallet the only one of its kind, but there is a whole market of minimalist wallets made by several other companies too! 😲 Anyway, I see how disappointing it is that the Ridge uses a little thumb slot to push the cards out with (you actually have to use a thumb nail to push out a specific card) when they should have made a wider slot in the center or by the side to push them out instead. The money clip for the Ridge looks like a neat accessory to hold cash (folded bills only) but it is not fair that it has to be ordered separately. My only gripes are with the little slot and having to buy the money clip separately later (imagine how silly receiving a little thing like that in the mail would be). I took pride though in purchasing it, because there is a The Ridge company located here in Canada, so the product was delivered pretty quick (in about 2 - 3 days). 😄
In my understanding you choose and order a wallet with either cash strap or the money clip. Therefore you don't have to pay extra, at least I didn't (went with the cash strap). You shouldn't need both 🤣
my issue with wallets with these style of wallets..besides cost...is the cards rubbing against each other and the magnetic strip being demagnetized. I've had this happen to some of my wife's cards..and we had to get replacements.
The main reason that I stopped using my Ridge was that the screws kept falling out. This was one of the early batches, and they did send out loctite covered screws, but it's really annoying to find that I'm losing screws so often.
Aviator seems to be the most usable of the ones presented. I actually returned my Ridge wallet and bought a Bellroy All-conditions card pocket. Besides being hard to use, I did not like that it was metal. It is uncomfortable in the pocket and if it falls out of my pocket, it's game over. Bellroy is much more usable as a daily wallet in my opinion.
Thanks. I’ve been looking for a minimal wallet. I’ve cried out a few of the knock offs from Amazon that you warned us away from. I will have to agree with that. The question I have is what is the deal with the screws and taking apart the wallet? I’ve had a couple that head screws and even came with a screwdriver. Just never did see the point in taking it apart.
I think the only reason is to move the clip around, or replace the elastic band if it's damaged. I'm with you--I don't think it's entirely necessary to include a screwdriver. It's a little confusing.
Here's the problem with these wallets. Your credit cards work through an RF signal and a Magnetic Strip. When you stack and rub these cards against each other, you demagnetize and neutralize the RF Signal of these cards due to static electricity.
I mean avoid anything on Amazon. I bought a knock off ridge on Ali express. It's lasted a solid 8 years , it definitely doesn't have that lifetime guarantee. But it was £2.50 as opposed to £125.00 . Heck I could replace it every other year and I'll still outlive the savings. 😅 That said there's something special about getting something quality and seeing it age and become unique. I adore my 15 year old Zippo and even now quit smoking after 20 years It has ages well. I will likely invest in one but the reality is for most a cheap knock off is all they need.
i totally love the XSTO! I have it for more than a year now and it's definitely the last wallet you'll ever need. It's built to last a lifetime as it's 100% metal. But with that, comes the downside that it eats out the sides of your cards and can tear through your jeans if you use it in your back pocket. So I just changed the way i carry it.
I've had it for over a year and initially it was a fantastic wallet but I access my cards quite often and the sides of my cards are seriously damaged. I've had to replace my cards once already and within a couple of more months I'm going to have to replace them again. So unfortunately for me I am on the search for another minimalist wallet. I really wished this wasn't the case because other than this issue, I love this wallet.
For the xsto I love it too but the Ridge is still lighter, smoother feel in you pocket and I fit all my cards and i put my license and firearm license where the business card slot is and i use the carbon fiber insert to hide and give a sweet look. I also have my name and phone number engraved on it as well. Ridge wallet and this are my EDC go to and I have spent a ton on finding the right wallet. EDIT: I also have the Pitaka carbon fiber MagSafe modular wallet and thats a cool one too, lil bigger but nice.
I have an Aviator and, whilst it looks cool and the cards are easy to access, it's terrible for cash. Putting it under the clip is fiddly and using it is a pain. The coin tray is too shallow for £1 and £2 coins and rattles annoyingly, even though it's lined with felt. Very cool for cards only, beautifully built but no good for cash and very fiddly to adjust.
One thing I hate about all these minimalist wallets is that they're all RFID proof. One personal feature that I hate in wallets is RFID blocking. It's a fake threat that businesses use to make you go for their product. I love having a wallet where I can hold my wallet up to an NFC device instead of taking my card out. With 2 hidden pockets, I can have my credit card on the left side in a hidden pocket, a debit card on the right in a hidden pocket, and my work keycard in a front card pocket. I still have one spot open if I get another NFC card. I just hold my wallet up to the device, and it works. It's much faster than even a wallet with an ejection system.
I'm on a market for a new wallet. Thinking about the Contour but I want something easier to fan out the cards and it seems as if the button would take sometime to take out the cards at the counter..but I might still grab it!? Now, I've had the Aviator wallet obsidan slim, I loved it so much the ONLY problem is that after 8 months of usage the front plates become a little loose and it never felt secure, maybe because I was over stuffing my wallet with cards... From this list you've showed my fav one was the GeoGrit. I just love how beautiful it looks with those screws and the way the cards fan out. I just wish like they had more designs like the Ridge. It's a new company so will see. Cappla was OK to me but that elastic band makes the wallet look cheap.
By the way I got the vulkit aluminum card pop up wallet.. with the elastic pocket.. got some stick on pockets from another company to go on the back of it.. there elastic to.. thoe you can find vynal and leather stick on pockets to..
You missed the best alternative to ridge, I have a stealth wallet, which has a metal ridge like container for cards but is wrapped in crazy horse leather (what they use for horse saddles) so you have a pouch for notes, an extra card slot and a coin pouch but the wallet is still really slim and pocketable. Doesn't get in the way at all.
the gripe with the ridge wallet cut out is wild then you like the other one with the corner cut out literally the same design lol flip it around and its in the bottom corner
seeing the Axwell confirmed for me the request that I've made of Ridge for years now... allow me to buy the panels separately so that I can change my wallet as I see fit. It's not as easy as the magnet setup on the Axwell, but I prefer the screws. I actually have the ridge coin slot, bottle opener, and airtag holder where I had the strap before. And I use the money clip for my military ID instead of cash.
Glad to see all of the candidates here are simple minimalist design - no buttons, sliders or other gimmicky features. I love my Ridge Fire Carbon - I find aluminum versions feel too sharp in my pocket. That said, had they been around, I probably would have chosen either Cappla or the X1
I don't like any of them because they're all based on sliding cards past each other, which is a problem somewhat compounded by embossed cards. I want a wallet that fans open so I can choose which card to extract.
Hold on to your first edition Ridges! Great options that are not ridge, but hate to say it, Ridge in the wallet world might turn into rolex form the watch world. The Nike Jordans of shoes, you get what I mean. I had mine since jan 2018, yes screws came out over the years but i banged it up so much and dropped it so many times it took forever to notice the screws were gone.
I actually like the ridge wallet with one exception. Sometimes you need to carry papers and not just plastic cards. For example some government cards also require a paper to be carried with them to be valid. There is no place in these types of wallets for papers. Money clips attachments do not work as they do not protect paper. So, back to a regular leather wallet I’m forced to go.
When I see a notch in a design, that implies that I should push something out from that point. If that's not their goal, then that's a bad design choice.
the ones with different colors were made by Fantom Wallet (I mention their wallet in Part 2). The white cards are just blank PVC cards I bought on Amazon and put stickers on them so you can see how many cards there are.
It really depends on what you are looking for. I prefer minimalist wallets in general (either leather or these new metals ones). I got tired of using huge leather wallets. Some people like to put these in their front pockets too, which isn't something you can do comfortably with a thick leather wallet. I think it's really what you prefer. There are great leather minimalist wallets too.
@@BeastMadeReviews Thanks. By the way have you used a tray you insert in minimalist wallets that have the Ridge wallet design (sandwich type). Also how long does the elastic band or garter I think, that holds the cards of the Ridge wallet, last?
I still don't get the attraction of these. You can carry 12 cards ok. You want the one in the middle, what do you do ? Pull out everything then pick that one? Separate cards compartment seems much more practical. Also non CC sized cards, what do you do ? Run around without your health insurance card cuz it doesn't fit ? Car insurance ? Registration ? Leave that in the car for car thieves convenience ?
I used Ridge before about almost 2 years ago but my damn screws kept falling out after 2 weeks of used so i didn’t use it anymore then yesterday I bought a new type minimalist wallet with the Bluetooth wallet tracker card for it and the wallet is carbon fiber so lets see how this goes
Dude. Those all suck. Overpriced slabs of metal and elastic. Not sure why no one has caught on yet to Dango, Scudo or vice hardware. Those are actually worth the price…
Oh yeah on the price of the decadent minimalist...in titanium you'll have that wallet till you lose it or its stolen versus hiw long for the elastic band on any of these others. I recommend the extra money for the titanium version as the materials both light and EXTREMELY strong so damaging it a very hard proposition...the aluminum can flex and distort if squished to hard in a weird way. Only thing ill give these over it is the rfid blocking, which is something you have to add "cards" to it to do the same thing. The old addage, buy once-cry once..plus it can be custom laser etched if bought from the main website versus amazon
Now I know that you wouldn’t go out with a pink wallet, (maybe you would )😊, but my wife would, and would definitely take the pink Cappla wallet of your hands. In all seriousness though, I just bought a Ridge wallet, I would have had a much bigger choice had I seen this video first. A few of my friends have asked me about the Ridge wallet, and I’ve pointed them all to this great comparison review.
Thank you so much! As for the pink Cappla, I already donated all of the wallets to my church's youth group and they wanted the pink one first. 😂 Thank you so much for watching!
pricing changes over time. I try to make videos that are more timeless in their information, since the videos themselves will live on for years and years, even though the information about the pricing will change. If you want pricing, I suggest going to the links of the wallets you like and see what their prices are on their websites.
Who honestly likes having a hard chunk of metal in their pocket as a "wallet"? I can't understand wanting any of these. (I have a Slimfold wallet made of tyvek and it's slim as can be, blocks RFID)
I've used a $5 Ridge clone for the last 4 years. I only carry about three cards so I'll probably just hand stitch a simple leather card holder at some point and use that instead.
Ridge also has a coin tray option, not included of course. Also, Aviator does not come with the coin tray, it’s extra. I combined the Ridge coin tray, with my decadent minimalist, and used it to hold cash in order to ditch the money clip
The Ridge wallet ruined all my credit cards! Great idea but long term use 🤦. Looks like my license and cards were sandblasted and milled .020 thinner..all the strips were worn off along with numbers and signature area.. total mess! Would not recommend 😕
I dont buy any knock offs I own a ridge wallet and a couple trayvax wallet and I just got a grip 6 v2 wallet which i love i own some bellroy wallets too
they already do! It comes with a money clip that clicks into place on the removable plates. You can take the plate off, leave the clip on, and have the plate as a money clip.
These wallets seem like a great idea since I won't have to sit on a wallet any longer. But I also hate wearing shorts in the summer and having a bunch of stuff in my front pockets. It looks so bulky and ugly. I wish they can combine these wallets with a keyholder as one flat item in your front pocket, like the size of a phone. Otherwise, you have a wallet and your keys that stack on top of each other for a bulky front pocket.
I use the same i-Clip wallet for the last 8 years, and I recently upgraded to a ridge wallet. But ridge feels chunky and difficult to insert and remove cards compared to the i-Clip. Yes, i-Clip is not as sexy as Ridge, but I don't see many RUclipsrs even mention it.
Hi Thank you for your video. I just ordered the HIESGIE Minimalist Metal Wallet from amazon. I chose that one because there are no rubber or elastic band. Did I make a bad choice? Thank you

I have the original 2.0 trayvax wallet, and I love it. I only spent about $23 on it and it works perfect!
For wallet #1: No way I'm pulling out a 2.5" hard drive caddy every time I need to pay for something😎
😂
Lol
Agreed
Code 118 is better
The thing they don’t tell you is that the friction of sliding cards on each other is that other a year or so the color and numbers will start to fade off, leaving you with nasty looking cards. That is unless you only have metal cards. So for now I think I’ll stick to my regular nice wallet.
My leather wallet did the exact same problem you just described so it's not exclusive to metal
@@Neumanns_Own how?
@@_xaom_1704 leather rubbing on the cards
I have had the grip 6 for almost 2 years and my cards still look perfect. The leather sleeve is showing some wear, but the machanical part still works as it did the day I unboxed it
I suppose it depends how often you're pulling your cards out. I have a basic leather wallet that shears the finish off the numbers of my card(s). But I'm honestly just more worried about the hard edges boring a hole in my pants.
No one ever mentions the Slim Clip !! I have had mine over 13 years !!! Still holds everything tight and is as minimal as one can get !!! “No more bulky wallets “ !!!!
Slim Clip is best!! It holds cash the best of all money clips
These days most badges use the RFID chips, so as long as you DON'T get one with RFID blocking, it should in theory work
This was the best review vid for wallets I’ve seen, thank you so much for this!
Glad it was helpful!
I had just received my Ridge, and I was looking for a tutorial on its use. What I found were videos showing that not only is the Ridge minimalist wallet the only one of its kind, but there is a whole market of minimalist wallets made by several other companies too! 😲
Anyway, I see how disappointing it is that the Ridge uses a little thumb slot to push the cards out with (you actually have to use a thumb nail to push out a specific card) when they should have made a wider slot in the center or by the side to push them out instead.
You shouldn't need both 🤣
@@burso83 I was not given any option when I ordered mine. It was sold as is with the cash strap.
@zaccure perhaps they've changed it to make it more customizable
@@burso83 Right, but you have to order the money clip part separately.
@@zaccure when was this? i just ordered mine a few days ago and you have a choice for the clip or strap upon purchasing.
my issue with wallets with these style of wallets..besides cost...is the cards rubbing against each other and the magnetic strip being demagnetized. I've had this happen to some of my wife's cards..and we had to get replacements.
After how long? I don’t really mind if I have to replace my cards (for free) if the wear isn’t abnormally fast.
@@BeastMadeReviews it was under 6 months for my wife's cards before we replaced the ones that wouldn't swipe on a terminal anymore
The main reason that I stopped using my Ridge was that the screws kept falling out. This was one of the early batches, and they did send out loctite covered screws, but it's really annoying to find that I'm losing screws so often.
4 years with mine and I haven't lost a single screw. I think I had to tighten them up once. Can't remember.
Best with magsafe?
Love your fragrance reviews as well buddy!
I appreciate that!
I have a Secrid Twin and love it. Plenty of room for cards and then a nice folded up area for a bit of cash
I really wished this wasn't the case because other than this issue, I love this wallet.
as much as i like these options, the ridge just works for what i need
Gear could add color to the wallet with the elastics bands color change.
i regret that most of these don't have anything for coins. That's a must for me. For that reason, the Aviator is the best in the list for me.
Did you had a hand on the ohsnap wallet? My favorite!
haven't tried that one yet. But I've had a few other people suggest it. I'll check it out! Thank you!
Can you remove the coin tray from the aviator wallet?
Yeah, you can. It's an optional feature that Aviator sells separately anyway.
Love your video what do you think code 118 considering that the xsto and akerni
Meant the gear one as well
I went with the Cappla. I really liked it's design, and the urban blue looks great. Thanks for breaking it down for us.
Good choice! Thanks for watching!
I have an Aviator and, whilst it looks cool and the cards are easy to access, it's terrible for cash. Putting it under the clip is fiddly and using it is a pain. The coin tray is too shallow for £1 and £2 coins and rattles annoyingly, even though it's lined with felt. Very cool for cards only, beautifully built but no good for cash and very fiddly to adjust.
you didn't list any prices for ridge or other wallets.
I usually don't list the price. Price is subject to change.
Thanks for covering these 7 Ridge alternatives. Still, I’ll stick with my Secrid wallet. None of those 8 wallets (including Ridge) beats the Secrid.
Do any of you you see any issues with cards wearing out, numbers wearing off, scuffing or residue on cards… with these types of wallets?
By the way I got the vulkit aluminum card pop up wallet.. with the elastic pocket.. got some stick on pockets from another company to go on the back of it.. there elastic to.. thoe you can find vynal and leather stick on pockets to..
You missed the best alternative to ridge, I have a stealth wallet, which has a metal ridge like container for cards but is wrapped in crazy horse leather (what they use for horse saddles) so you have a pouch for notes, an extra card slot and a coin pouch but the wallet is still really slim and pocketable. Doesn't get in the way at all.
the gripe with the ridge wallet cut out is wild then you like the other one with the corner cut out literally the same design lol flip it around and its in the bottom corner
it's actually a very noticeable change. The cutout being on the corner fixes the leverage issues I have with the Ridge design.
seeing the Axwell confirmed for me the request that I've made of Ridge for years now... allow me to buy the panels separately so that I can change my wallet as I see fit. It's not as easy as the magnet setup on the Axwell, but I prefer the screws. I actually have the ridge coin slot, bottle opener, and airtag holder where I had the strap before. And I use the money clip for my military ID instead of cash.
Where does one put that wallet when carrying it? Not in the back pocket for damn sure.
I put mine in my back pocket. It’s hardly noticeable. Many like to put it in their front pocket
Glad to see all of the candidates here are simple minimalist design - no buttons, sliders or other gimmicky features. I love my Ridge Fire Carbon - I find aluminum versions feel too sharp in my pocket. That said, had they been around, I probably would have chosen either Cappla or the X1
My second video on the topic will have wallets with more doodads. 😂 But I'm thankful you appreciate my purpose with this video!
I don't like any of them because they're all based on sliding cards past each other, which is a problem somewhat compounded by embossed cards.
I want a wallet that fans open so I can choose which card to extract.
You missed the Fantom. I was really hoping to hear your thoughts on that one. It's my favorite from all my research so far.
I haven't missed it. I saved it for Part Two coming up. 😎
Ridge is definitely a good choice
I actually like the ridge wallet with one exception. Sometimes you need to carry papers and not just plastic cards. For example some government cards also require a paper to be carried with them to be valid. There is no place in these types of wallets for papers. Money clips attachments do not work as they do not protect paper. So, back to a regular leather wallet I’m forced to go.
Great video. I ordered a GeoGrit. Thanks for the info/reviews.
Hope you enjoy it!
Imo I really like the Geogrit design, and I like the aesthetic of having alot of screws. It looks "Industrial" I guess for me 😂
Can you do a review on the code 118 wallet
U loading those cards backwards into the ridge jus hurt me so bad lol I use the notch side to load and unload lol
When I see a notch in a design, that implies that I should push something out from that point. If that's not their goal, then that's a bad design choice.
Where do you get those cards with the graphics on them?
the ones with different colors were made by Fantom Wallet (I mention their wallet in Part 2). The white cards are just blank PVC cards I bought on Amazon and put stickers on them so you can see how many cards there are.
Cool, are minimalist wallets better than traditional real leather wallets?
God bless.
I've been using my Ridge wallet for about 5 years now and it's still going strong up to this day. My next wallet will be also from Ridge XD

Why would you ever get a next wallet when you have a lifetime warranty?
@@gigantomastiaCuddler I want a new color
I used Ridge before about almost 2 years ago but my damn screws kept falling out after 2 weeks of used so i didn’t use it anymore then yesterday I bought a new type minimalist wallet with the Bluetooth wallet tracker card for it and the wallet is carbon fiber so lets see how this goes
You don't have The Frenchie CO?
I haven't heard of that one. I'll have to look it up.
Hands down Ridge is the best
Not worth $125.
Dude. Those all suck. Overpriced slabs of metal and elastic. Not sure why no one has caught on yet to Dango, Scudo or vice hardware. Those are actually worth the price…
Dango is excellent. I mention them in Ridge Killers 2. But these are also excellent wallets. Definitely worth checking out.
I have the forged carbon fiber Cappla Wallet and have an extra OD green strap. Love it.
Exentri Card Holder is by far the best wallet I've ever used. All my colleagues adapted it quite naturally.
The new leather Ridge Wallet is great!
Why didn't you include pricing with each wallet description. Major fsilure on your part as that helps determine purchasing decisions comparatively!!!
pricing changes over time. I try to make videos that are more timeless in their information, since the videos themselves will live on for years and years, even though the information about the pricing will change. If you want pricing, I suggest going to the links of the wallets you like and see what their prices are on their websites.
The cappla looks like the one for me.
Who honestly likes having a hard chunk of metal in their pocket as a "wallet"? I can't understand wanting any of these. (I have a Slimfold wallet made of tyvek and it's slim as can be, blocks RFID)
I had a solid chunk of leather before I bought a ridge. It's hard metal of course but it's way more slim, smaller and lighter.
I'd love to get a slim wallet, but I need to a means to connect to my keys. It's a security feature and ensures I won't lose my wallet.
Great overview, very helpful! Thanks 🌻👍
thanks for watching!
I really like gear infusion wallet, yet I can't stand the branding print on it. 😭
I'm thinking of buying it and sanding it off. 🤔😂
I've used a $5 Ridge clone for the last 4 years.
I only carry about three cards so I'll probably just hand stitch a simple leather card holder at some point and use that instead.
Jesus the price for all these wallets what a rip off
Why would anyone spend $100 bucks on these? Isn't that uncomfortable as hell sitting on a piece of metal?
it's not uncomfortable, surprisingly. But many people choose to carry this in their front pocket.
I was a sceptic too, until I tried one. Will never go back to a leather fold wallet...
Ridge also has a coin tray option, not included of course. Also, Aviator does not come with the coin tray, it’s extra. I combined the Ridge coin tray, with my decadent minimalist, and used it to hold cash in order to ditch the money clip
Aviator has a couple of different models. But the Slide wallet (in this video) does include a coin tray for no extra charge.
Flipside wallet. Brilliant. Highly recommend.
did you consider lockcard from germany?
Haven’t heard of that one. I will check it out! Thanks!
The Ridge wallet ruined all my credit cards! Great idea but long term use 🤦. Looks like my license and cards were sandblasted and milled .020 thinner..all the strips were worn off along with numbers and signature area.. total mess! Would not recommend 😕
I dont buy any knock offs I own a ridge wallet and a couple trayvax wallet and I just got a grip 6 v2 wallet which i love i own some bellroy wallets too
Ridge has the coin magnet and the measuring thing too
Have you ever checked out the Chaves Ti-Fold?

Black Rhino Concealment “Oscar Mike” wallet. Slim and super durable. 8years+ and haven’t worn it out.
Very helpful vid, thanks!
Glad to hear it!
The Aviator and XSto look amazing. I'm on the fence but may end up getting both😅
They should make the axwell where the whole magnetic piece is a big money clip so you can carry more than a few bills
they already do! It comes with a money clip that clicks into place on the removable plates. You can take the plate off, leave the clip on, and have the plate as a money clip.
I have 3 on this list. I don’t care for the Aviator I have, but love the Decadent, and Xsto wallet.
Cappla or Aviator.
I will check it out!
You were using the "Stay Away" one wrong youre supposed to use the cutouts to slide it upwards and out of the opening.
Hi
Thank you for your video. I just ordered the HIESGIE Minimalist Metal Wallet from amazon. I chose that one because there are no rubber or elastic band. Did I make a bad choice?
Thank you
The Capp. wallet has the cutout at the most vulnerable area of the card, which is the chip gold plated contacts.. I'm still siding with Ridge
just flip the card around...
