yeah this. I like the aesthetic of the ridge but unfortunately its kind of ass as your cards are hard to retrieve and they WILL get dented on the sides. Esker or Code 118 do a better job with ease of access to your cards and they will be covered by the metal casing. If ridge was able to add that mechanism somehow to their wallets it would be the best of both worlds.

Ridge wallet does take time to get use to. Hold the ridge with your left hand push out the cards from the notch with your thumb. In one smooth motion use your right thumb and index finger to pinch, pull, and fan out your cards as if you’re playing a card game. Easy peasy unless you have arthritis = / keep your most used cards in the front or back for quick access.

Ditto! I got the Ridge as a gift and I've been using it since. The money clip is fab - my cash never falls out. Plus I also like the various colour/schemes offered by Ridge. I think I'll still try out the Ekster and see which one I like better...

Great review! I started with the Exster Parliament wallet, I think it’s a great design, but I started running out of room fast because I have to carry a lot of cards on me five just for work(drivers license, ambulance license, medical examiners, EMT license and then a door card key) then an ATM and credit card and then a couple of other cards that I have to carry. So the Parliament started to get fat fast and was hard to close even without cash inside of it, also only held six cards inside the case part with the ejection button. I then switched to the ridge with the money strap, because of the amount of cards I have to carry. I agree I think these are the best two options and you have to decide which one best fits your needs!
Oh, one more thing, Exster has a great return policy so if you decide after a few days it doesn’t fit your needs then they will take it back as long as you save the packaging and it doesn’t look like there’s damage to the wallet.

I've used a Ridge wallet every day for going on seven years, so I can address your concerns: The elastic that holds the wallet together has no visible wear on it. I did originally have a cash strap and the elastic on that did wear out. Both are replaceable. I replaced the strap with a money clip. Both hold cash securely. The one issue I did have is with the screws, which would work their way out and I'd find them in my pockets. After a year or so I got a replacement set and haven't had an issue since. A big feature of the Ridge is it has the greatest chance of fitting comfortably in a watch pocket. You might not think being a little bigger in the height or width department matters, but it can rule that carry option out.

I can vouch for Ridge. I’ve been carrying a Ridge with a cash clip for about 5 years. I’m a frequent flyer so I’m in my wallet numerous times a day getting in and out of hotels and spending money. In 5 years the elastic is still as tight as the day it arrived. I’ve also never had cash fall out or off of the clip. I even use it for some of the hotel keycards that are bigger than a normal bank card. All in all, Ridge makes a great wallet.
FYI @2:33 you’re never gonna get the cards in because you’re putting them in backwards. Cards go in the side opposite of the thumb hold.

I’m enjoying my esker so far but I will say the ridge is also very nice. I have the ridge with the cash strap and I’ve played around with different amounts of bills. For the 2 years I’ve had it I’ve never lost any cash using just the strap. Esker is a lot easier to get to your cards and looks more sophisticated. If you have any extra cards they can go under the plate.

I've tried several of these new age (aluminum, platinum, titanium, whatever) minimal wallets at high-end boutiques. I thought were leaps and bounds ahead of a tradition wallet...but I say, I still prefer my Jackson Wayne minimalist wallet. There's just something that feels right about carrying a high-quality leather minimalist wallet - it just feels like comfort. Moreover, based on how my Jackson Wayne wallet looks and feels after 5-years...pretty sure this wallet may outlive me. We shall see. I would buy another Jackson Wayne wallet or two...but I just don't need another. LOL! However, I think I'm going to start passing 'em out as gifts. Enjoyed.

Card storage on the ridge is super awkward, in order to get any middle cards you have to fiddle with the outer cards to even get to it. The Ekster allows for easy movement of any card position because the fanning allows enough exposure to pull any card, plus having your most used card at the back is insanely intuitive with how fast you can take it out

You just have to pinch the bottom at the corner by the finger cut in and it spreads the cards out.

My reasoning for going with the Ridge other than it's sworn testimonies from others is a bit niche and personal to my tastes because I love a certain look/pattern to any kind of wallet I own. But as much as I'd loved to have given my business to other minimalist wallet companies...Ridge is the only metal minimalist wallet company that made their design in realtree camo (or albeit the most current iteration of the pattern). Probably something silly to others but that's my own personal taste and hence why there's so many options for everyone. I do think though the fanning card feature with Ekster is a very nice touch and improvement over the Ridge. Also their leather wallet looks great in quality.

I've owned a ridge now for 5 years. I can vouch for the cash strap, and the rest of the straps on the wallet. I've carried anywhere between $5, and $2500, and it's held up great. I am a very active person who enjoys many different powersports such as atv, snowmobiling, adventure riding, and motorcycling. I just decided to go away from my ridge because it DESTROYS cards. This could be because of my hobbies, but having been through several debit and credit cards, I decided to choose a wallet with a divider for each card.

I’ve had my Ekster Aluminum Waller for 2 and a half years and I have had absolutely no issues with it since I got it. The card pushing mechanism is a blast to just sit there and play with. I usually keep about 6 cards in there and no more than 5 bills in terms of cash carrying. But overall I’ve loved Ekster and recommend it to anyone who wants to try a minimalistic wallet.

With me back in 1980s i used a money cilp but by the 1990s when the average person had at least half a dozen plastic cards of one sort or another i was forced to carry a bifold leather wallet for the cards then near the end of 2022 when i was looking for a new wallet i was hearing about the ridge wallet's but was put off buy thier price but found more affordable copies although they are tiny in size they are awkward to use especially when the card you want is in the middle but since june2023 ive used what is my favourite wallet which is an ekster style wallet made by vulkit that has a top loading cardcase in the centre and a leather trifold wallet on the outside for extra cards and cash and you can still stick in a front trouser pocket as it is only a little bit bigger in size than a credit card while being about twice as thick as a ridge style with about 9 cards and and a few notes in it.
Ive found out it all comes down to personal choice or needs because on a day to day basis i prefer an ekster style wallet but if i am going out for an evening when i won't need to carry all my cards but just a few select ones and a bit of cash then i prefer a ridge style for the smaller form factor and convenience of accessing the cash

Came real close to getting an Ekster wallet but moving parts means eventual breakage, which is not something I want to risk with money and cards. More importantly, I'm not a fan of the cash trifold that both the Ekster and the Ridge want us to do; it's ugly, bulky, and ATMs just won't take bills folded like that. But at least a Ridge with cash strap can securely hold bills folded in half. Sure, a bit will stick out on both sides but you can carry more bills that way and it's still minimalistic.

The big drawback to the ridge is the price although the design's are nice and the wallets being compact personally for me I find it better to get something similar to the ridge but at a cheaper price but a ridge is a good choice if you can afford one the ekster wallet is a bit to much like a slightly simmer chunky wallet also at a to high a price point and thier are cheaper ones out their the way I see it is why carry a wallet that costs way more money than you carry around you might just end up being mugged for your wallet rather than the cash and in it
