Why anyone would want to live in Florida is beyond me. Bad politics / politicians, weather sucks with hurricanes and tornadoes, humidity is miserable, outrageous insurance rates, housing costs and taxes. I grew up in the southeast and never cared for the area, in general, mostly because of politics and racism.
It was affordable before the Northerners flooded US. Sold my house in April $300k nearly 3x my money to a New Jersey family who sold there NJ for 600k. I wonder if I get to buy it back in the coming years.

I visited a few times and yes, the weather is great but it rains alot and its very humid. It's also very dirty outside of the tourist areas. Trash everywhere! Once you leave disney, you are shocked by how run down everything is Its a big swamp with lots of sketchy people.
Florida native here. Florida is not a post card. Leave the beaches, and by that I mean just a mile inland and you leave paradise. This state is beyond rundown and trashy
A friend of mine went on vacation Miami recently. An 8 minute taxi ride was 50 dollars, a lunch with two bowls of pasta and two cokes was 82 dollars and a bag of potato chips was 9 dollars. He will never go back to Miami again.
I am currently a victim of ageism here in Lakeland, Florida. I lost my job back in October 2019, right before the pandemic hit. I am still unemployed. I have applied for over 600+ jobs since then. Not 1 job interview. I am stuck here in Florida. I couldn't leave if I wanted to. I am trying to sell my home. It has been on the market since July 2019. I have dropped my price from $326K several times. I cannot drop it anymore. I need to be able to afford a place to live once I sell this home. I made a HUGE mistake moving here 11+ years ago. I should never have come here.
I have a friend who's family followed him from Florida to Leavenworth Kansas. They love it there. It's about 30 min from Kansas City and has lots of federal jobs. Very reasonable housing. Best wishes to you.
This has happened to many people even here in California. People may have a job but can't afford to buy a house interest rates are to high and renting is $2,000 to 2,500 dollars a month and more and a lot of this was caused by democrats running this state and Gavin Newsome our democrat governor
Ageism is real. I have been a cashier for 6 years at a popular grocery store. It took me almost a month to get in after my initial interview. I think it might of been my age. I kept calling to the store to see if I was still be considered. I think after their bad experiences with unreliable younger employees, they thought let's give this old girl a try. I get frustrated with some of the new rude managers, but I stay there because I need my job and know what the struggle of ageism would be in looking for another job. I fully understand you. However, if you still want to work, keep trying. We older people make the best employees!

Nothing new. Surprised it took you so long to realize this. I have met many from UK and other European countries that left places like Florida,Hawaii,Texas,California,Brazil,Thailand,Japan,Oz,Fiji,Central America,Mexico, etc. to go back home because they could no longer afford it,can’t handle the weather, health issues, etc. for decades. I have been to 65 countries so far since 18 spending up to two months or more where I go. Retired debt free in my 40s now and just decided to stay in Oklahoma and keep my Florida condo. All paid off. Just spend a few weeks or months at a time in other countries renting a place or staying with friends and family. Much cheaper for me since I can fly free. Didn’t want to deal with all the paperwork involved and just extend visa stay if needed. Spent a month in Brazil and all summer in Lugano Switzerland this year. Currently spending the winter in Bali.
We left Pa. To come to Florida. Our taxes were double in Pa. We couldn’t afford to retire in Pa. Now car insurance and homeowners insurance are more here in Fla. HOA is another issue. Our next move would probably be to an apartment. Jobs have never paid as much as up north as I looked years ago before I got married. But cost of living is less as well.
@@allisonduff9098 Same here, I'm tired of keeping up and maintaining a house in Florida, tired of the morning back aches. Apartment or rental house is probably next if I live that long. Along with renting though I would like to have a piece of land somewhere with a barn on it where I could go if a rental falls through, that way I could just put a camper on it and veg out. The kids have no interest in the Florida house (as it should be) and they can dump the place when I croak and take the cash. No reason to keep a place in The Rip Off State.

I know a woman who moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Jensen Beach, Florida five years ago and had been boasting about how much she loved the place. She moved back to Phoenix a couple of months ago.
I just spent 2 months in Valrico for R&R. Spent 90% of my time in my AC bedroom. It’s a new home, so AC is working very good, to good in fact because even though we have a humidity attachment on the AC vent system, the house is very dry, which causes my skin to become very dry, and hair falls out. Just so happy to be back in my homeland of NJ.
Got a job working for Manatee County. They worked me like a dog, pay was shittyand the corruption was wild. Ended moving back to my home state and back to my union job
We are one of the ones leaving. My wife took a job in Western Kentucky and starts next week. We are in Kissimmee and it's turned into an absolute nightmare of a town to live in. My son's school is 4 miles away and it takes us over 30 mins to get there. All of NY and NJ have taken over this town, my wife can't even get a job here because she doesn't speak English!! We put our home up and it was under contract in 1 day at full price! They backed out 8 days later and we had it back on the market the next day, 4 days later it was under full price again by people from Miami! I was born and raised in Florida and this isn't the state I grew up in, it's a nightmare here and insurance is sucking us dry from Home to Cars. We had a great opportunity and took it and ran!! I drive her to Kentucky on Friday so we can work on closing our next home and I will come back and wrap up the packing. Higher pay and lees bills is a win in all areas for us!
In my area, in the Northeast, houses are sold within a few days and nearly always above the asking price. I recently sold my house and all three bids were $10,000 over my asking price. It too sold within a few days of listing. Eat it Florida.
I’m an attorney in NC. My encounters with companies based out of Florida are that they tend towards corruption far worse than locally owned corporations. I’m referring to PEO’s and nursing home operators. More layers than a Russian nesting doll.
Florida and California are very different states, California has a huge economy and it's diversified. Florida's number one industry is Medicare fraud, followed by tourism.
California has a huge debt and can't fund itself. Florida is able to fund its obligations like pensions. But I encourage the disgruntled to move to California. The Tenderloin district is beautiful.
They are building out the natural areas, paving them and make communities of homes in the Ft. Myers/Estero/Bonita Springs/Naples area just as fast as they can. It is a shame that Florida, a place of natural beauty is becoming a "desert" of homes and pavement so a few people can get rich.
I grew up in Pensacola Florida, joined the Navy after high school. Spent 8 years in Northern California. Although beautiful, I was very happy to come back home.
You are great. Keep these videos coming. I grew up in Florida in the late fifties, early sixties. (That was pre-A/C, if you can believe it. Only rich people had A/C. We weren't rich.) I wouldn't live there now. I'm happy in Connecticut. My tiny house is a dump, but my mortgage is around five hundred dollars, and I'm on a dead end street in a lovely quiet area on a lake, but in a good-size city, only minutes to shopping. (I don't get around so good anymore.) I count myself very lucky.
Michael, you often criticize government intervention. But US government does intervene and protect the wealthy. Since 1980, inequality in wealth has risen sharply in America. My guess there will be a lot less middle class Americans because the government protects the wealthy and corporations.
That’s what Michael means. Government intervention doesn’t help anyone but the rich or corporations, or government employees/agencies. Other words: Michael is not advocating for government intervention.
Floridians who cry about gov't intervention get awfully quiet when it's time to pay for yet another hurricane clean up. Flood insurance is such a money loser that no business will offer it, US gov't only. That means the rest of the country is subsidizing you.
I'm 28 from florida. I didn't go to college, so im a blue-collar worker. I would be on a faster pace to own a home working minimum wage with the homeprices what they were when i was in high-school. Fla is only affordable to the insanely rich. Us local's can't even live in our towns the rents are so high. It's only for the ultra rich, who will have a hard time finding help with anything. Restaurants, general labor, teacher's, construction....it is unaffordable to rent here or buy here anymore. No wonder everyone is leaving. Can't make the high rents. Good luck FL , You'll need it. I'm a rare native, and left at 35. I've come and gone a few times, I have family there. I've traveled all over the U.S, and came to roost in N. E. Tn., about an hour out of Knoxville, in a smallish city. I like it very much here. I miss the ocean, but not sorry I missed the recent tropical systems. This part of Tn. has little in the way of weather drama. Returning to Fl., before I moved here, I found many reasons not to resettle there. I grew up in central Fl., before Disney World, very peaceful and lovely back then. Too many people now.
Florida was nice back in the 1970’s and 80’s. That’s when I remember it being more open and not overly crowded or expensive. And there was a time I wanted to move there. Nope. You all can have the hurricanes, high humidity, crowded roads, expenses. And that’s probably the same things others are thinking
@@cjhoward409 I was in Florida for most of the 1970’s and a little of the 1980’s. The beaches were not foul, water full of fungus and flesh eating bacteria. But really, not nearly as cool as Southern California back in the day.
I remember being around Daytona Beach in the late 80s and being able to get a motel room for $15 a night. Right before they all got torn down and replaced with high rises.
It's back when people cared because they had to. People are lazy and are letting everything go to waste now because they don't understand what they got from the work of previous people
I moved to Naples from Michigan in 1993. Life was affordable and pleasant. Over the years since then, Collier County has allowed unchecked growth, resulting in a diminished quality of life. Costs are through the roof and hurricanes are more frequent and more deadly. I relocated back to Michigan this fall for my retirement and I could not be happier. My expenses are 50% of what they were in Florida and I no longer have to worry about my home being destroyed or damaged by tropical storms - and I can actually find and easily afford insurance here. Good luck to those non-millionaires who stay/are moving in. Good riddance, Florida!
I moved to Naples from Wisconsin in 1991. It was much different back then. I decided to move to Thailand in 2018, by mid 2020, I was stuck there until 2022. I went to Naples in 2023, and could not believe the growth there in the past 5 years. Don't think I would want to live there again.
My comment did’t post. I retired to Orlando five years ago. It is like stepping back in time 20 years. No culture, personality or soul. Services aren’t available that normal bigger cities have.
You will miss our money. These people coming back wont want to send money to Fl anymore. Fix your junk. We are sick of paying for your greedy mistakes.
@thomasallen6980 not hardly dude. Yeah we have some issues going on, but so do 49 other states. Clean your 🎉house before you complain about someone else's. I've been here 24 years and it gotten worse in the last 4 years.too many people which caused the crazy increase in housing prices. Just 1 of several problems. It's not perfect but it's better than a lot of other places.
Hi Michael, I watch you everyday, you always have great content and you have a cool way to deliver it…have quite a few friends who now follow you too, take care brother…
Nearly 10 million people a year leave the United States to live in another country. My friend's moved to Mexico because they can live well on half of what they spend here. How ironic.
In the last 3 years I know 4 people that moved back home. Taiwan, Thailand, mainland China, and Russia. They had been here for 10 to 20 years. All in their 30s. They all say there is no future here. You work, gets taxed out the nose, food is bad, house is expensive, health care is terrible, schools are atrocious and governments that doesn't even work to resolve people's problems
I lived there for a year. It took me 4 weeks to find out that 50% of neighbors had a drug problem. The number of alcohol addicts was even higher. Horrible. Fights, divorces and fraud everywhere. What a miserable life. Glad to be back in Germany, the land of beer and bratwurst.
The claim that FL is the most affordable for college is misleading in the most charitable light, seeing as FL has become one of the least affordable places in all of the United States.
Hey, Floriduh does not talk about that or global warming!!! Now most Floriduh homeowners insurance does not include sinkhole coverage. Wonder why??!?!?!? Floriduh loves the poorly educated who love to ban books
Have no issues with that. Enjoying my paid off Marco Island home with nice views of marina, beach, and gulf from my balconies,fishing,sailing,beach,etc.. Life is too short and I can afford it.
I first moved to Florida in 1986. It was heaven, right here on earth. I am not lying. Was pristine. Not overdeveloped, not overpriced. Old Florida land everywhere. I am happy I saw this. I am sad it is gone. Will the last person to leave Florida please remember to turn the lights off? 007
yup, I'm in Kissimmee as well and we leave next month. This place went to hell since 2020. It was good when we moved here from North FL in 2012 but hell no anymore.
I live in Jax FL and I can tell you it's no longer affordable to buy a home or rent here. We are lucky our condo is family owned or is be fuct. The wages here have always sucked .the housing market in Jax and surrounding area is tanking. My neighbors condo has been on the market over a year now. I've never seen that in the 12 years we've lived here. We're seeing higher turnover in renters and places not getting rented. Something is definitely going on in the housing market.
I am leaving Tampa. I moved to Tampa from Connecticut in June, 2020. I will be moving back to Connecticut in January. The main reason is that I miss my friend. However, the other factors may be why others leave. First, I miss hiking in hills. Florida is truly ugly, swampy, and flat. I thought I could get used to it but could not. Second, the hurricanes are starting to bother me. I have had to hear that evacuation notice on my phone 4 times in 4 years. Third, people are not that friendly here. It has been difficult to find friends. Fourth, all costs keep going up: property taxes, insurance, and housing prices.
We moved from Chicago (flat and crowded) to So Ky. We love the hills, and elbow room and friendly people. But so many out of staters are moving here. Mainly from blue states !!
Yeah, Florida is certainly not the most beautiful state outside of the coastal areas and beaches, which are some of the best in the world. There is little or no variation in the landscape or vegetation from north to south. I'm from Minnesota and moved here about a year and a half ago. In Minnesota, the north was pine and poplar Forests, the midsection was deciduous trees, and the south was prairie. I still don't miss Minnesota though, especially the brutal cold. I'll take Florida's weather any day.
Your experience has not been mine. I live in the northern/central part of FL where I experience all four seasons, oak trees, pine trees, nice people, and lakes. It also has rollibg hills, a beautuful area.
Hi! I used to live in West Hartford! Moved away in 2003 and have always regretted it. I would say there’s a much higher quality of people in Connecticut.
New Homes in Florida are horrible looking. Builders are not making one story homes. The houses are cheaply made and the bedroom closets have no lights in them. The houses are all cookie cutter homes and are not stylish at all
@ every well built house in the Midwest had a light in the closet. The builders are so cheap in Florida that they put no lights in the bedroom or the closets. They build houses that are for third world countries in Florida
I am in NY, I have a small place in Pinellas County.. Rents here in NY for a 1bdrm is like $1600.00 which seems to be on Par with FLA now and and you pointed out, The problem is Pay Scale, $16.00 is Big Money down there yet its not enough to live on.. and THAT is everywhere.
When did you or your people come to America or Florida? Don't think it would have been nice for someone to say that to you or your people, you think? America is about welcoming people. Remember that!
...You didn't mention the high humidity in summer - and all the bugs that swarm , fly in your face , and land in your hair ! Every morning , about 5:30 - the f*cking crows are squawking out side my bedroom window . I'm leaving next week for Illinois .
Moved out of Florida 2 years ago. The costs are too high and I see no future there. Wages are low as hell too, a lot of people work two jobs and sleep like 3 hours in-between shifts
I think Florida has been that way for decades. Unless you have an academic job or a medical job, it’s crap pay. But originally the real estate was cheap and rents were cheap so people made due. But not anymore.
Here are some real examples of the costs here: My friend needed a new fence after a hurricane blew it down. He was quoted $27,000. His yard is about 1/3 acre. My house (exterior only) needs painted. It is 2000 sq/ft with a detached 760 sq/ft garage. I was quoted $10,800, and that was for the cheap paint. If I wanted the best 7 year paint, the price was $13,800. If your air conditioner breaks, they will tell you that you need a new unit. The local shops charge over $1,000 for a brake job for a Honda. Everything is high priced. Beware!!
I guess you should learn to do things for yourself, none of the jobs you mentioned are difficult, the exception being the AC, depending on what it needs
Contractors are gouging everywhere. I have to get four or five quotes just to find out what the real price should be. Having said that, a friend of mine has to rebuild for the second time after the last hurricane. Contractors Can jack up all the prices they want Right now. And to the people who say learn how to do it all yourself, after a certain age painting the entire house by yourself is a near impossibility unless you want to make it stretch out for a couple months.
@@GR-ju4db Not all the time. I have sold about 100 houses over the last 30 years. I always try to price them to make the most money but sell fairly quickly. I've sold some houses in one day and others that took months. One house took more than a year! You just never know who the one is that wants to buy your property.
Crime is the reason I left FL. The crooks come to steal in good neighborhoods. Too hot! Another problem, home owners insurance is sky high because of hurricanes. I am glad I left! 3rd reason, Gov. DeSantis! You'll find out why!
When you can't even get homeowners insurance what are you supposed to do? It's required for any mortgage but it's becomming harder and harder to get much less afford.
People moved to Florida during pandemic were folks wanted to work from home and took advantage of no state income tax and low living costs. Most of those factors have changed.

Growing up in Minnesota back in the 80s and 90s....all I heard was how everyone wanted to move to Florida. Everyone wanted to live in Florida! I visited a few times and yes, the weather is great but it rains alot and its very humid. It's also very dirty outside of the tourist areas. Trash everywhere! Once you leave disney, you are shocked by how run down everything is
Its a big swamp with lots of sketchy people.

Yeah the weather is much nicer in Minnesota. if your a polar Bear.
Miami is sinking anyway
Miami Highrises are sinking, this will be a 50 billion dollar eco catastrify.
Me either
Miami has been like that for years. I vacationed in Miami back in 2009 for a week and it was the most expensive domestic trip I’ve ever taken.
Yikes, that is out of control.
Grew up in Florida, when it was least populated southern state. Moved to New York in 2016. Best thing I ever did.
Sucks, sorry to hear that… you need to walk into places and apply on site, the internet just collects data those jobs don’t exist.

I'm from England, and two of my good friends emigrated to Florida 7 years ago. They've just announced they're coming back to Britain, and I was like, "Why?!"... then, today, as happens a lot, RUclips fed me this video, and now I know why they're coming back! I enjoyed watching this, thank you.
You had to find out why from this video? So when you asked your friend why he was leaving, what, he just refused to answer your question?
@plica06 Don't be facetious. The point I was making was the RUclips algorithm threw up this video after I'd had the same conversation with my friends.

We left Pa. To come to Florida. Our taxes were double in Pa. We couldn’t afford to retire in Pa. Now car insurance and homeowners insurance are more here in Fla. HOA is another issue.

All thanks to Reagan.

Where?
Contractors are gouging everywhere. I have to get four or five quotes just to find out what the real price should be. Having said that, a friend of mine has to rebuild for the second time after the last hurricane. Contractors Can jack up all the prices they want Right now. And to the people who say learn how to do it all yourself, after a certain age painting the entire house by yourself is a near impossibility unless you want to make it stretch out for a couple months.
Sold, port Charlotte, December 2021 , Sold in four hours! One lucky sob! 1st person who walked in the door! Thanks, Michael
Thanks for your channel!
Wow. 😮🎉😂❤ we should all be so lucky. Guess you priced it right then. 🎉❤
I love Port Charlotte. I raised 5 kids there.
Don't come to Port Charlotte
Whenever someone brags about selling something so quickly, right away I know they sold too cheap!
@@GR-ju4db Not all the time. I have sold about 100 houses over the last 30 years. I always try to price them to make the most money but sell fairly quickly. I've sold some houses in one day and others that took months. One house took more than a year! You just never know who the one is that wants to buy your property.
This a different country 😢😢 can't believe we have truly the most incompetent leaders in America
Beautiful neighborhoods that you are walking in.
Crime is the reason I left FL. The crooks come to steal in good neighborhoods. Too hot!
Another problem, home owners insurance is sky high because of hurricanes. I am glad I left! 3rd reason, Gov. DeSantis! You'll find out why!
DeSatan is the biggest problem Florida has. Crap rolls downhill, and that Governor has his hands in everything...😊
Including pudding packs! 😂
When you can't even get homeowners insurance what are you supposed to do? It's required for any mortgage but it's becomming harder and harder to get much less afford.
I’m sorry for condo owners but everyone has known for decades that building on the coast is risky. 🤷♀️
The low wages plus insurances are killing the state of Florida.
FRIDAY GREETINGS MICHAEL AND LISI 🌴🌄🌴
People moved to Florida during pandemic were folks wanted to work from home and took advantage of no state income tax and low living costs. Most of those factors have changed.
The problem for median income people is they'll blow that state income tax savings on insurance.
