@vitravaah2527I think the minimum wage in Florida is now around $12 per hour. At least that is what McDonalds is paying. Double that and you would still be hard pressed to cover all of your expenses. For what it is worth, people who doubt what is presented in this video don’t know what Florida is like today. Not to mention the ‘pay to play’ of our state government.
Jerry, thank you for posting this video. For what it is worth, I know life long Floridians who have moved to other states and would never think of coming back. And they left years before the current mess. Thanks again.
I am 72 yrs old and have lived in Florida for 40 yrs. 15 years on the beach, 15 years on the golf course and for the past 10 years have lived in a semi rural area. It has been a wonderful life. Now 10,000 houses have been built around us and the traffic is congested.
Same here! They are saying that the people are moving out of Florida! I just see people moving in around me, and the fastest I ever seen! Maybe this guy wants to scare people to move to Florida! I agree! Because this land cannot accommodate so many people! There is a limit!
Well i my self have lived in Florida 40 years from Tampa to New Port Richey to Now in Citrus Co. The Hurricanes will thin out the weak Alphabet Queen's...🤣🤣🤣
I feel your pain. I live in Gainesville, and the traffic was always bad, but now they're building all these super high-rise apartment buildings and the traffic is horrendous! Plus, rents are going up so much, I may be living in my car in a couple of years.
I moved to Florida in 1989, and a few months later, bought a brand new 3/2/2 home in Lutz for $69k. In 1997, I bought a 4/3/2 pool home in Tampa for $109k. We sold that house in June 2024 for 537k, and immediately got the hell out of Florida and moved to northeast Tennessee. We love TN! Our main reasons for moving out of Florida were the skyrocketing cost of homeowners insurance, the fear of more hurricanes, and we grew tired of the seemingly endless hot and humid weather. In TN, we get to enjoy the four seasons, much lower cost of auto and homeowners insurance, and the people are so friendly.
Very similar story, except I started in '81. Now in north Alabama, which is very beautiful country, and it was 34 degrees here last night, in mid-October. Love it. Florida is a hell hole. the hurricanes, the traffic, and the ENDLESS heat, all suck sooo bad.
I’m native, I had to leave Florida to find my people again. I don’t know, but I doubt there’s another state in the union where the people and culture is so disregarded and denigrated. People born and raised in Florida don’t treat the native plants and wildlife as nuisances, they respect them. In Florida, natives have learned to accept different cultures, respect and honor them. We have lived in peace and harmony, have blended our families and our stories together. Then we got invaded. I left. So much heartbreak. I hope Florida one day returns.
I moved to Florida in 1982 and can confirm that everything you said in this video is 100% accurate. However, I would not even entertain leaving. The endless summer ☀️ is awesome, and although it does get very hot and humid, it beats snow ❄️ and cold 🥶 wind.
I was clueless(Michigan). All my life I thought southern States were summery in the winters. NOT!! Kentucky driving through 6 inches of snow. Tennessee bitter cold. Texas unpleasant and cold. New Mexico?? I'm sure hot, dry and desert like?? NOPE! Bloomington NM, snowstorm, trucks sliding off roadways, wintery blizzard like and unpleasantly cold! Arizona, nicer, but far from t-shirt weather. Still uncomfortably chilly. Eventually, first stop in FL, Vero Beach in winter. Sure maybe 42° at night or maybe lower, wake up to a high of 82° days!! Yayyy, finally found my year round summer State!! 🌞
I've lived in Florida for over 40 years. Stay away. Especially if you're from California or New York. Spiders, snake, alligators and giant flying cockroaches.
@@ralphp3057 I'm in Merritt Island. Been bitten by brown recluse spiders twice. Killed a coral snake in the main hall. Had alligators walk across the bike path in front of me. Did I mention the cockroaches can spit?
I have lived in Florida for over 54 years, and I will be here for the rest of my life. People from New York are ruining our state, causing high prices and lots of traffic. Florida is full, so please consider moving elsewhere.
@thomasryan2679 what an uneducated comment. My wife and I work from home for an out of state employer. Taking that money from liberals and spending it in FL! Haha suckers!
I got news for you people in general are ruining FL especially the rich they could move anywhere...we working class can't and by the way I am not from NY and dislike rude people
Where people are loosing sight is that insurance companies are not in the business to hand out money, they are in the business to take from their insured.
Insurers are in the business to build reserves from premiums to pay claims for insured losses. This is a high risk state with re to certain property perils. Insurance carriers are in business to make $, they aren’t not for profit organizations. Some years they do not make $. If they can’t make $ in a state they will leave. Citizens (state run) wasn’t charging premiums based on the true risk and as a result didn’t have enough premium to pay claims and other insurers are having to make up for it.
@@sharongallagher7730Citizens needs a better business model. They are the worst insurance company one can get. They never “deny” claims, they just find a way to lie about how much it costs to repair so that it’s always below your deductible, forcing homeowner into a lawsuit situation. If they just paid for initial damages as they are responsible for, they’d avoid the expensive lawsuits.
Sold my house, moved back to Puerto Rico. Yes, there are storms, but house is cement and no insurance. Low property tax and lower costs overall. It's not perfect, but what is?
Mobile home taxes are the biggest rip-off in the state. Rather than being assessed like a home, it's assessed as if it were a car - by the weight - even though they don't really move anymore.
My dad was born and raised in Palm Beach he is a 5th generation Floridian. He was fed up with taxes and the people, sold the house and moved us out of Florida.
We moved from Florida To SC one and a half year ago. We sold our house in Florida and paid off the mortgage and bought a town house cash. This house is even bigger than the one in Florida. At the beginning I was so depressed because I had lived in Florida for 20 years but listening to you I think we made the right decision, and I feel much better. Thank you!❤
I am turning 60 and have replaced my shingle roofs all the time. I have a one-story, so all I need is a ladder, my compressor with gun and staples, or just plain roof nails, and roof materials. I lop down branches hanging over my trees. I fix all of our vehicles. I replaced my own handler and heat pump twice. I fix every single plumbing problem. Am I a genius? No. But I know how to watch You Tube videos and have worked in contruction before. It is NOT rocket science. The reroofing is incredibly easy.
@@MotocaribeDR He does not Insure his house if you didn't get it .... He will fix his roof after a hurricane in a fraction of the price the roofing company will do it. He will save ton of money by not paying those ridiculous Insurance prices. And he will not have to fight the insurance company in court to get the money. Insurance is the biggest scam of all.
@@ben-yi3nh@ben-yi3nh Insurance is much more than fixing a roof. Much more. If he's OK with going bare with plaintiff trial lawyers on every street corner, be my guest. I also suspect he won't be doping his roof when he's in his 70's. I am not pro-insurance. I am about risk mitigation. It is possible to be penny-wise and pound-foolish.
Don’t move to places that don’t want the change. If you move to a place for its peace, serenity and lack of conveniences, leave it that way. Don’t move to desloate areas wanting city conveniences. Money, greed and a fast paced life has destroyed our families. What happened to backyard BBQ’s and family get togethers? Most want brewery’s, shopping centers and restaurants. I’d rather sit and relax on my porch looking at the wilderness or farm fields than buildings or back to back homes. Stop selling land to developers and corporations. Go back to family gatherings, helping others and communities rather than build them up to congested, crime ridden neighborhoods.
At 73,I was priced out of my condo in Florida and retired to Europe this year since we could not afford USA. The cost of condo fees has tripled in 5 years. Don t trust real estate agents in Florida condo fees , insurance costs and repairs on buildings are out of control. Nothing is affordable!!
Moved to Florida in 1989, about 2 blocks from a beautiful beach. Population was about 12 million. Now, it’s 23 million. Prices are high, traffic’s terrible, wait months for some doctors, crowded with way too many people. Not the pleasure it was previously.
You are so right. Everybody don’t move here to Florida. We are overloaded with people. Traffic is bad. Please stay where you’re at. Please please don’t come here. Thank you.
and remind these folks that alligators are eating our kids, and hurricanes daily, the heat is so bad that "I can't breath". Stay up north.. NY, NJ, CT, PA, MA, VT. NH, MD, DE, DC, are wonderful!
I LOVE IT!!! Here from Socal!! No hurricanes or 15k flood insurance. Thanks for taking our rejects who couldn't make it here. There's way less traffic than before. Thank you FLORI-DUH!!
Thank you for such important information. I lived in Florida for 30 years, seen it all! You are 100% correct. I ran the heck out of Florida . HIGH CRIME, BAD TRAFFIC, HIGH COST OF LIVING, INSURANCE OUT YOUR EARS, BAD SCHOOLS, RUDE PEOPLE, for the 2% of sweet neighbors, it wasn’t worth it.
Lived in South Florida since 1984. Moved out in 2021, went through many many hurricanes and every single time if you could get an adjuster to come out and assess your damage, the insurance company would give you at least 30% less than it actually cost to fix the damage. Once they underpaid everybody’s claims they would run to the state and lobby for a big increase for the following years insurance premiums, and the state always gave them what they wanted. It’s a total racket and a shame.
Like a retired insurance man told me… the goal of all insurance companies is to make a profit… and if they can’t meet their profit margin for whatever reason… they shut down and move out!
My brother had a home in western Florida, he got hit by 2 hurricaines in one year. Insurance demanded TWO deductable before they would do anything, He ended up losing his home as he could not come up with that much cash.
My mother in law who's in Florida, probably several years ago, just dropped insurance all together. I thought she was nuts when she first did it, but given the fact she's been in her house for well over thirty five years and has "weathered" many a storm and several major hurricanes (none were directly in line with her home) and hearing the ridiculous premiums ..... I don't blame her for rolling the dice. I really don't. This is basically an advertisement for North Carolina.
Jerry is also advertising South Carolina, since he is a real-estate broker there. I have lived in Florida since 1978 in the fastest growing County in USA, near Winter Haven. I'm self-insured on my lake-side house here, and I am not moving back to SC where I grew up in the 1960s (SC has a state Income Tax and a high poverty rate). But here is a funny joke that can be used against us crackers. Question: Do you know why Florida does not fall off into the Gulf of Mexico ? Answer: It is because Georgia Sucks :-)
Let's hope she doesn't experience a fire. If she is well inland & nowhere near the river (keep trees well away) she should be ok with the risk. But liability is another concern that she should also take into account. But a fast moving strong hurricane can still hit her home & do extensive damage. If that same hurricane can drop anywhere close to 20" of rain that can cause flooding anywhere in Florida.
@@jasoncrandall73 Good point. I should have added that she does have fire insurance. Right, excellent point. She just got to the point where, frankly, at her age, she wanted to just take the chance and dropped the hurricane and flood insurance.
I have lived in Florida for 54 years, and I just moved away in March. He is so right, Jerry Pinkas, about everything he said. I am so glad I moved away. I got tired of it. 😅
I am sure Florida doesn't miss you.. The only folks leaving Florida are the people that want to live on the cheap. Cheap taxes, cheap, Insurance, cheap HOA fees, ... It's over folks.. It's NOT cheap.. stay in NY, and NJ. it's very expensive here, and the alligators are eating people all day, right jerry? and hurricanes, daily, along with long lines to get food and water. and the traffic, people in their cars for days. stay safe, and stay up North..
We moved to Florida in 2019. Moved out in 2023 and boy, what a smart move! Our mover told us in late 2023 that things have reversed and that 8 out of every 10 moves are people leaving the state. We were glad to be part of that statistic.
We did exactly the same thing (moved to in 19, out in 23)! I do miss the no income tax, but that's being offset by how much I save on groceries and fuel costs
My sister died of poverty in Florida. Her routine healthcare was in an RV in a parking lot. My brother in law insisted they move there. Don't move there if you're poor.
"The Federal Reserve System is not Federal; it has no reserves, and is not even a system at all. But rather an international criminal syndicate."- Eustace Mullins.
You do realize the Federal Reserve are banks which do have reserves, right? And you do realize the Federal Reserve is not the federal government, correct? Most people toss Fedral Reserve around but have no clue what they do
You are so right. Lived in Florida for 50 years and 2023 broke us. Our homeowners increased five time over and we had to pay flood insurance of $6000 a year. Add horribe traffic, no medical care and hurricane Ian and we were gone. Sold our dream house and moved to Alabama, wish we would have moved from Fl years ago.
We lived in swfl for 12yrs- loved it but it just was getting too crowded for comfort. We started looking for land in 2020 & ran into crazy regulations & prices in Fl. We hopped over the line to Al in 2021 & it is such a relief here. We love it Ala!
I am a native-born Floridian and lived in the state for 46 of my 60 years. In 2022, I retired from my job, sold my house, and got the hell out of Florida! Too hot, too humid, too crowded, too expensive, and too fascist! Make the smart move, folks. GET OUT OF FLORIDA!!!
I have a close neighbor Friend of mine. Lived on the NorthEast Coast in New Jersey for most of his Life. He decided to move to Florida when he retired. I just moved back to Florida and love it. Not interested in living in South Carolina no matter how much you try to trash Florida and glorify South Carolina. Every state has their own pros and cons. To each his own.
I’m a FL native and most of my family still live here. Where I live (west of Orlando) our city and county are booming. I don’t necessarily like all the changes that come with it but things change. I’ve read people online afraid of FL (gators everywhere, hurricanes, lightning, sharks, etc)…that’s good; stay away. Almost everywhere has bad traffic and if it doesn’t now, wait 10-20 years (that’s how long it took us here). To each their own.
yet these other states with terrible traffic won't get worse if it's own state is losing people to Fla. Yet the heat down there is getting insufferable.
We need move you tubers like old Jerry.. Negative all the time.. lets create a you tube to keep folks from NY and NJ from moving here to Florida. They bring their politics, rudeness and attitude with them.. NO More NY, NJ, PA, CA, DE, MA, VT, CT, IL, MN, MI, OR, WA, folks please.. you are not wanted.
Been here for a 13 years never had a dime of homeowners insurance refuse to pay the crooks. Chances are if something happens you have to pay most of the repairs out of your pocket anyway so why pay them it's worth the risk not having it
I’ve lived in Florida all my life! The truth is that the chances of a direct hit from a hurricane remain the same each year! Home insurance was available at a reasonable price only a few. Years ago!! Now it is so high that it will be the main reason people will lose their house due to foreclosure! The governor needs to put a stop to this rip off!
Yes there is no rein on insurance companies. Need lawyer to get claims settled and then your insurance is canceled “ house too old, tile roof too old etc”

Middle class guy here. Tracked expenses down to a penny for 2023. The government got 61% of my money with taxes, from sales to property to Dmv, state taxes to, social taxes and others. 😂 how sad.
Schools ,roads ,Maintenace . lighting, storm clean up, all adds up. Most of my property taxes goes to the schools. And you have DeSantis as governor....... in fact most of all of FL is run by Republicans except for the major southern FL population centers. And all that federal taxes paid by FLORIDIANS come back in disaster relief funds.Sad indeed.
Just wait until Joe Biden gets reelected. He has already promised to NOT extend the Trump tax cuts and also RAISE our taxes even more. Working people will have to take on extra jobs to support all of the illegals Biden has welcomed with open arms into the country.
I wish they would cancel Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid! That’s what the government is taking all our money for and they should stop doing that
Moved to Florida in 1986 and bought a home in Pasco county in 1992. You neglected to say Florida has a homestead expemption for property tax. Still, I saw the writing on the wall 15 years ago and sold last summer. Glad I did, 3400 new homes are being constructed down the street from me. I believe the biggest challenge will be securing fresh water for all these new people. We still have seasonal droughts and the price of treated water is astronomical.
Hubby and I are old Florida natives. He actually is a home builder. What we did was purchased raw land with lots of oak trees and a water source, built our home, which is exactly what I asked him for, is basically a shotgun house. The entire cost of our house was 7,800. (It cost us 200 more than the house to put in water, but we made sure of two things. One, the well hits the aquifer. Two, it's got a hand pump included for when the power goes out. I can actually pump water into our house, the summer kitchen and the guest cabin, from the well.) We have no reason to purchase insurance because if something took out our entire house, we can just rebuild it. It costs less to replace our house then it does to pay for property insurance for three months. The people who are moving in are obviously spendthrifts. They won't be able to keep the property that they have purchased and as soon as a big bad hurricane comes, most of them are out anyway. Florida wins!

I grew up on Anna Maria Island and my children were born there. Left in 1976 because FL had become basically a night mare of unhappy old people who did nothing but whine about how much better it was where they came from. One day a few of us neighbors were talking and one of them started in about how awful it was here. Another spoke up and asked why didn't they go back then? Dead silence. Moved to Arkansas and went back once for a wedding and vowed there's no way we'd ever return. What an over grown nightmare.

Housing prices will hold steady until supply matches demand. The nation faces a severe housing shortage, with construction lagging. A slight price dip still attracts buyers, keeping demand strong. I'm looking to buy affordable homes in 2025 and possibly invest in stocks. What's the optimal time to invest, and what are the potential risks and rewards?
Things will likely worsen. Affordable housing will soon become unaffordable. Act now, as today's prices will be tomorrow's bargains. Until the Fed takes stronger action, expect chaos from runaway inflation. You can't remove a band-aid halfway; it requires decisive action.

When I bought my first property in Massachusetts during the early 1990s, interest rates on mortgages were typically between 8% and 10%. It's likely that we won't see rates as low as 3% again anytime soon. As a result, sellers may need to lower their asking prices to attract buyers. This could lead to lower property valuations as well.
I started watching wondering if this was going to be insightful. When, at the 2 :08 mark you say Florida accounts for 79% of all insurance lawsuits "while the other 51 states account for 21%" I wondered if this was a joke. I'm a homeowner in Florida. 7th generation. I've mapped the State for years with a map-making company, so I'm familiar with Florida at a depth and detail you can only imagine, and, in my experience, a lot of what you say here is wildly overstated, or represents an extreme example that you're presenting as "normal," when it's not. Crime and traffic vary greatly county by county, and even mile by mile, and crime is lower in most of Florida than most states in the country. Where I live, it's practically non-existent. And trying to get people worked up about lightning and rain? Seriously? I have very reasonable homeowner policy and car insurance, and the rates haven't gone up more than a few % in the past 20 years. My neighbor had a tree fall on his house in a hurricane and his insurance company had a crew working on it WHILE the storm was still blowing. They paid out in a few days and gave him a generous settlement. So, yeah, "good luck trying to collect." Oh, and I just paid $12k for a new roof on my 3BR home. If someone was quoted $42k, they should call the police, unless they want it shingled with gold and diamonds. I understand that you're trying to talk people out of moving to Florida because you want to sell them homes in SC, but come on, man.
Where in the world do u get those prices and service in Florida?? Most contractors won't even call back or if they do then they fail to show up or charge ridiculous prices.
Thank you for this. I know people who live in Florida that aren’t dealing with anything like this guy describes. He’s definitely taking it to the extreme

There are issues in Florida, many of which are touched on in this video. But the truth is, Florida is a big state. Some choose to live in the hotspots pointed out here. But there are many, many smaller cities and towns, outside of Ft Myers (featured here) Sarasota, Miami, Tampa Bay, etc, where it’s just as affordable to live in as many other places in the country.

I am 4th generation native. It's my home and my family's home for generations. It's hard to see my HOME STATE get like this due to too many people and over building. Go back to YOUR HOME STATES!
@@leacyott811same. We sold and moved state after decades of moving around the state to find Florida. We’ve found it-outside the state, with seasons and less beaches. But to find that kind people, less stress driving and attending to everyday chores and having kind and friendly neighbors-feels like we found Florida again. My parents and their folks are buried in Ocoee, and I miss tending my people. I miss what FL was. I don’t ever want to go back, which is heartbreaking.
My insurance has been going up drastically within the last four years. Went up about 35% from last year. Currently paying $11,000! Can’t imagine it going up another 40% next year. Lived in this same house for 30 years, no where near the coast and have never had a direct hurricane impact. I’m a single income household, who could always afford my mortgage/bills and now I’m going back to living paycheck to paycheck because of of the homeowners and car insurance rates are unaffordable. It’s not right that there’s no cap on insurance and they can continue to raise rates. I am feed up with these legal crooks. I would leave this state tomorrow if I could, but feel stuck here for right now and don’t know what to do.
...now tell the rest of the story why your insurance is so high...I live on a saltwater canal that was hit by IAN and put in a large claim...my house is also 30yrs old and my insurance is $3K with full coverage...
@@mortsims If they lived in it 30 years and are not able to drop insurance, it’s been re-financed. All of this is the “financialization” of the economy. Because Americans pay double for everything, supporting institutional finance. Fact Without debt, the U.S. would completely collapse. Debt here is by design, facilitating global liquidity on American citizen’s backs. Unfortunately, almost all Americans are going to experience and see the devastation of letting finance be the factual entities in control.
I lived in Florida through high school (Merritt Island) and college (UCF). I have no desire to go there except to visit family and friends. Now living in the Shenandoah Valley.
We sold and moved away last year. EVERYTHING had gone up and was still going up. Our dream of living in Panama City Beach, had become a financial nightmare.
I lived in Miami my entire life, but things changed as of 2020. The congestion became so overwhelming that no matter what time, what day, what area, what direction you were driving in, it was a parking lot. The heat and humidity is beyond unbearable. The people are NOT friendly, let me tell you. Unless you know them, people will scowl at you, or walk past you as if smiles are expensive. Drivers are statistically the worst in the country. And unless you're in the beach areas or the MONEY areas, Miami is just ugly. It's just one house after another (all boring to look at). It's all flat land and palm trees. And don't get me started on the corrupt communistic gov of DeSantis who's effectively trying to indoctrinate our kids into a mentality of communism under his gov that wants to dictate our thoughts, our beliefs, our rights, our freedoms, and our health. I left FL with zero regret and moved to GA where life is peaceful for the first time in my life. Trust me when I tell you all, FLORIDA SUCKS! Don't buy into the delusion that FL is paradise with it's weather and the beaches. If you live here, you have to work hard to afford it, leaving you NO time to enjoy the touristy things that made you romanticize living here. The reality is it sucks!
When you mean authoritarianism or totalitarianism, pls do not use word "communism" - which means all resources owned by all the people. Education & investigation & precise use of language will help us all.
@@Max63385 Regardless what you claim is happening in CA, it has nothing to do with thee FACTS I wrote about FL. Your comment is just another right-wing projection, or as the world KNOWS it is, a confession.
Jerry, thanks for showing the reality of what Florida has become. I live in Salome Arizona. I am retired. The property values and rents here are far, far less than Phoenix, which is 100 miles away. I go to Phoenix for major shopping at least once a month. I have a hybrid Toyota vehicle that gets 38 miles per gallon. Everything I own is paid off. You get the picture. I’m just including my particular Life situation so that the readers of these comments can realize that there are places that are affordable. Everything in the US is changing quickly, so my advice is for people to update their search and their information. Always make informed choices. 😮
Good luck with an insane unelected leftist government cartels running them crime rates from gangs of South America, skyrocketing and illegals, literally pouring across your border. Things are not going to remain Rosie for you very long.
You talk about "the reality of what Florida" has become, then you go on to say that where you live is much cheaper than somewhere just 100 miles away in the same state. It's the same in Florida! Why segment Arizona into tiny sections, but lump all of Florida together? I've lived here all my life and I don't recognize a single thing in this video.
Hubby and I moved here in 2020 from Peoria, Illinois. Bought our house in the Largo area before the prices went crazy. Real estate taxes and homeowners insurance is still less than Illinois. Sales tax, gas prices (prices in general) are lower in Florida than Illinois. Florida had no state income tax which is also cool. There’s lots of crime in Illinois. Peoria is called “little Chicago” for a reason. Illinois has snowstorms, ice storms, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods and even the occasional earthquake. The earthquakes were no big deal, but the snow, ice, tornadoes, and floods can be devastating. There are poisonous spiders (Black Widow, Brown Recluse), and plenty of poisonous snakes. Fortunately, there are no alligators except those in zoos. The sky is cloudy and the landscape is grey and brown for about 6 months out of the year. I’m staying in Florida!
When I saw this, I could not resist making a comment. I moved to Florida in 1981, have disliked it all 40+years I have been here. I was originally from Northern Michigan, then Southern California, then Northern Virginia, then Arizona, last Florida. I can honestly say Florida is the worst of all of them. I stayed here because my elderly parents lived here. They have since passed, so I will be leaving soon. Looking into Tennessee, or Kentucky. Would actually love to get out of the south, but would not be able to handle the cold and snow of Michigan. I certainly would not ever want to live in S.Carolina. This man is correct on how expensive it has become to live here. If one does not like beaches, there is no reason to live here. Its too hot, humid, too many bugs, traffic is horrible. I am tired of worrying about hurricanes every summer as well. It is a nice place to visit, especially in the winter months, but do not come and live here permanenly, you very well might regret it. Oh another thing..Scientology is big here in Pinellas County, they have taken over the city of Clearwater, and have ruined this place. DO NOT MOVE TO FLORIDA.
Having lived in Florida most of my life I know first hand the good and bad of Florida. It's hot to say the least, how ever most days are sunny and where I am in Central Florida we have a slight breeze most days. I have been a homeowner for over forty years and bought and sold more than a few homes. Choose your city/town carefully. St.Pete was great in the 60's, but the taxes and traffic had my Parents moving us farther north. We live in a small waterfront community that takes pride in preserving what we have. Great schools, parks, an hour from Tampa, Clearwater, Ocala, or Orlando. The quality of life is here for now. Hopefully it will continue for future generations as my Grandson now runs his own business here after graduating from College. Yes insurance can be an issue, you have to shop around, but our property taxes are reasonable, and did not double-unlike my taxes on my home in Georgia.
And dengue disease is coming... making havoc in large portions of Southamerica now the bugs have been freed by climate change and invading all over FL too.
Here's another warning for those considering moving to FL. A lot of insurance companies are no longer insuring homes, leaving customer with no choice but to choose Citizens Insurance, which is run by the Gov. They DO NOT PAY claims. I had a roof claim for a leak due to a hurricane, and we were put through the ringer for 3 YEARS of depositions, and waiting, and calls, and letters and more depositions, and in the end, Citizens said they refused to pay out our claim. FL has basically told it's residents to bend over and take it hard while begging for more because no one else was there to step in. If you are even considering moving to FL, let this serve as a deep and hard warning. DON'T DO IT. You will regret it and you will forever be haunted by this warning.
Left NYC to florida on a vacation in 85 never went back worked in the AC industry for 35 years retired at 62 bought a place on the beach love it here my wife and I almost moved to Cali glad i didnt love it here will never leave Fthat!
I have lived here in south Florida for 20 years and it is now just insane. 2004 Ford F250 never had an accident or ticket $3200.00 Hime owners insurance went from $1200.00 to $6000.00 never had a claim. The only thing that has not changed is my property taxes $1600.00 but that’s due to being homesteaded. If you’re a snow bird your taxes will follow the market and that’s a lot of money. Any kind of home repair is 80% higher here a new A/C system in 2007 was $4500 for a high end Lenox system that system today is $30,000.00. The electric is expensive we keep our house at 80 degrees yes we have a pool but it’s a high efficiency variable speed pump and we still pay minimum $250.00 a month. The only things Florida has going for it is no income tax, personal property tax, homestead exemption of $50000.00. The contractors are all scam artists the builders are hack national builders building junk just for profit. Florida was beautiful now it’s a nightmare, we call it little New York, all rich have moved in and pushing us who lived here for years out. I am looking at moving to North Carolina or South Carolina. Your video was a truly honest representation of Florida I realize you’re doing the video to boost your sales in South Carolina.
My daughter and son in law live in St John's County, FL. They bought their home brand new about 24 years ago. They put up solar panels and their electric bill is very cheap. They each drive a tesla and even keeping them charged up, their electric bill was $45.00 this past month. They have had a lot of growth, and have to deal with a lot more traffic, but they try to time their shopping and activities when the traffic is lighter. They are very happy there, and have absolutely no plans to move. Good luck to you all who are moving out. I'm sure you won't have any problems selling your home.
I've been here 7 years and find it basically accurate. Homeowners went from $3200 to $7500--no claims, but due to Surfside Ho6 policies for townhomes were impacted IF you had replacement cost for personal property. Ridiculous. While no state income tax, there is a FL surcharge on practically everything most people don't notice: Pet insurance? Yup. Mobile phone? not sure FL state and Federal but your locality (city) also charges. Netflix? Yup. I could go on. All that adds up. And before someone says I should simply move? On my dance card in the next couple of years, hopefully.
It is not just in Florida. Insurance rates are also climbing up in Georgia, Alabama, Louisianna and California. I don't understand why anyone would want to live in Florida. The summers are brutal, the bugs are awful, the hurricanes are dangerous, the population is awful!
I’ve been in my home 32 years in Tampa Bay Area. Never filed a claim, live above all flood zones, insurance went from $1200.00 a year to $9000.00 a year.
Anyone that can buy a million dollar home absolutely knows that taxes won't be the same for them as it was for the previous owner when they bought the house much cheaper.
Success is not built on success. It's built on failure, it's built on frustration, it's built on fear that you have to overcome. I pray that everyone who reads this remains successful in life.
I left Florida after building there in 1996. Lived 5 mins from the Gulf. In 2022 was paying $8600 for homeowners insurance. Shortly after Ian it went up to over $12000. Sold at a significant loss April 2023 as is. The insurance renewal notice came to me in the fall of 2023. They jacked the rate to over $22000.
After spending many weeks, months in Florida visiting family, I decided to build a home there. After much debating with myself I decided to pull our of the contract. We ended up moving to the Midwest instead. Now you couldn't pay me to live in Florida, too hot, too many bugs, too many people, the list goes on. I feel like I missed a bullet buy not building and moving there.
You always have the most interesting videos and people need to understand these statistics. Five years ago my husband almost took a job with Frontline Insurance in Florida. Today he has completely walked away from the Insurance business. It's not a stable industry right now. I do wonder how many of those people who have left Florida are healthcare and education workers. Thank you, Jerry.
Americans do not know that Congress did a sleight of hand with insurance. Americans do not understand that it was insurance instruments that facilitated the Great Financial Crash. Americans do not know that insurance has lobbied themselves a “deregulation deal” where Congress let them out of capitalizing insurance policies, when no one was looking. The only television outlet that broadcast the dramatic devastating change was Bloomberg business news put it on their bottom ticker tape. The year was 2009. Now our premiums go to the C-Suites and 3rd party reinsurance hedge funds on the stock market, and we are factually being forced to prop up institutional finance with our insurance payments. Insurers then turn around and all use the same 3rd party’s tech software to cheat on claims. All of this activity is fleecing property owners, and has been classified as a cartel, with AG’s and FTC looking into it. The situation needs to be addressed nationally, before it takes down more than the American citizens and our economy.
We moved from Westchester County in New York and lived in Florida for 13 years. Taxes and insurance were a little higher than NY, but our house was twice as big. The worst aspects about FL insurance was the possibility of being dropped and the deductible. Our deductible was 20% of the actual value of our home. We enjoyed living there for six months of the year. I liked the heat, but not the hurricane threat. Several times we had to flee hurricanes. From south Florida it is a five to six hour drive at 70 MPH just to the state line with Georgia. From there you have to head to Atlanta or the mountains of SC or NC - 15 or 16 hour drive. After our first evacuation we decided we were going to make our escapes hurrications and planned visits to places we thought would be nice to visit. The traffic is pretty bad and the mix of drivers creates a hazard every time you have to head out. After leaving my job, we moved to the Low Country of SC. We miss a lot of the great things about FL, but really like the people, slower pace, and the beauty here. We still have alligators, mosquitos, and hot humid weather. Costs are substantially lower. Hurricanes, though far fewer, are still a reality.
I'm in a small southern California town with beautiful weather and reasonable property tax rates, no lines at the grocery store, only a couple of stoplights in town, no speed limits over 40 miles an hour, all the roads are single lane, I have a nice Jeep and my car insurance rates are about $90 per month, my homeowners insurance is about $85 per month. I make $130,000 per year working from home and only have to work about 15 hours a week. the beach is 20 minutes away, the mountains are an hour away and all my neighbors are super cool.
Where at in Southern, California, sounds nice, no lines at the grocery store, speed limit 40 , cool neighbors- l want to move there- Where did you say in Southern, California? (lol)😊
bob if you make $130K per year and are living in a ghost town, that probably there is nothing to do, you are saving a lot of money to be able to retire someplace else where you can have fun. The place where you live sound very boring even for an 82 year old lady like me. I will be depressed living in a town with only two or 3 stoplights. I will stay in Miami as long as I can afford my condo close to Coconut Grove where my only son lives, and close to Coral Gables, Downtown Miami, Mia Airport. I do not need to drive because in Miami we a Free shuttle going to Coral Gables and downtown Miami in case you do not want to drive. .
I live in Ormond Beach 5 minutes from the beach and nothing you said is true. Brand new roof cost me $ 18,000.00. Home owners insurance $ 1,700.00 per year. Car insurance for 2 cars one with collision $ 1,450.00 per year. I've lived here since 2015 and the worst hurricane I've ever lived through was Sandy when I lived in New Jersey. So maybe your a bit byass Mr real estate owner. By the way the biggest cost of living has taken place in the past 3 1/2 years of the Biden administration.

Native multi-generation Floridian who never thought I'd be leaving. Will have waterfront home purchased in the 80's ready for sale in next few months. Political nonsense (note I am registered Republican) and cost of living is untenable. Homeowners premium went from $3000 to $6800 to $16,900 in last three years. 31 years with insurer, zero claims, made no difference. Terribly sad that greed and politicians' personal agendas have taken over.
Built a home and moved in 2-20. Pandemic, then Hurricane Ian (no home damage, thanks to solid pre-pandemic construction) in 9-22. Sold in 7-23. Made a 41% profit. Floriduh was very good to me.

Unfortunatelly one of the broters was killed. They were bored to death. So it is better not to live in any paradise. You will ended up being crazy with nothing to do.
My home owners insurance went from 10500 to 750 on similarly valued house when I moved to the Carolinas. It was new construction and elevated from the flood plane by several feet. It was a bunker. On the low chance anything did happen to the house it wasn’t like they were going to cover it or I could sue them either. It’s a crime what is going on. I sold my house in 2016, best decision in my life. Everything he is reporting is true the cost of insurance is high and every a year you will get an increase. I couldn’t keep up anymore with high fees. No more traffic, no more stress, and have more time for my kids and family.
Insurance is the Top issue if you can even get it. I am a native born in Miami and now I won't get near Florida to live. I would NEVER, NEVER buy a home there again. Now Loving living in SC
Funny I would never leave (I'm also native Miami) Florida. My taxes haven't gone up much although my house has. My Dad bought a house in North Carolina and that summer Hugo ripped the roof off his house. (Not shingles but the rafters and all then slammed them back down). I now live in North Central Fl. near the Santa Fe and Swanee rivers and love it. My 700K home has a 2200.00 tax bill every year. That's not outrageous.
Not true. It's higher in liberal cities like Gainesville but Florida overall looks out for the citizens by having a cap that can be added each year to not make you house unaffordable as you grow older. He points to a 3 million dollar house and says the taxes are high here. Well show me a 3 mil house in any state with a 2000,00 tax bill.
Not true. New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the country. Any 2000 square foot house will cost you at least $11K a year in property taxes. My neighbor owns a 3500 square foot house and she pays more than $20K. 😭 It’s just insane.
I don't mind the Snow Birds, people from Up North who live in Florida during the Winter. What I do mind is their horrible 'I'm better than you' attitude. Many move to Florida after they retire and become Sun Birds. Now, we have to put up with them year-round.
Wow, 27 years is a long time, Thanks for sharing your story about leaving Florida! Here’s to new adventures, with a lower cost of living and less humidity!
Yes just got another "Escrow Shortage" notice telling me to pay 2K now or my mortgage payment will go up my house is only w worth 300k as is Florida is turning into hot garbage

I feel your pain. I live in Gainesville, and the traffic was always bad, but now they're building all these super high-rise apartment buildings and the traffic is horrendous! Plus, rents are going up so much, I may be living in my car in a couple of years.
You must love gators and large snakes, l could never live in that bug filled hot and humid state. It's full of creepy shit.

Seems in 37 years, you probably put plenty of savings into your pocket from living in a red freedom state.
Like a retired insurance man told me… the goal of all insurance companies is to make a profit… and if they can’t meet their profit margin for whatever reason… they shut down and move out!

You are correct. Wonder who the top donors for politicians in FL are? Who writes those new laws?

Two, it's got a hand pump included for when the power goes out. I can actually pump water into our house, the summer kitchen and the guest cabin, from the well.)
We have no reason to purchase insurance because if something took out our entire house, we can just rebuild it.
It costs less to replace our house then it does to pay for property insurance for three months.

Any idea which areas
Sarasota is not cheap. I lived there for 15 years. Everything is high. You name it. Year after year. Slowly increased. I moved out of state. Best decision ever...

OK. Unfortunately FL politicians do not respect women. Sad 😢.
It’s hotter than I thought, but I can’t go home because home is New York City and that’s a mess
