You pay medical insurance only out of fear. Save that $$ and go all cash on procedures. The discounts are amazing. Anything heavy will be covered by law anyway. Relax.

Dual income households set the income bar from 40 hours a week to 80 hours a week. The worst thing we have done is make two incomes standard. We thought we were getting ahead, instead we just created inflation.
Should have been a red flag for all of us. It's when a full-time job isn't cutting it that people has to find a side gig or part-time just keep up with inflation.
“We” were just trying to maintain that illusive “American Dream,” while corporations took even greater profits from us by not giving us a raise over the past 40 years. $7.35 an hour. The dream is dead.
Laid off 5/17/24 in tech field. I have a Masters degree and 20+ years experience. Applied for over 250 jobs. Got a couple of interviews in which I could tell there was no job or the interview had nothing to do with the job I was actually interviewing for. I might have been 40 minutes away from a "local" job (non-remote) and was not considered due to my, apparently, lack of proximity. 40 minutes was always a normal commute for me. I finally got hired by a company where their internal recruiters actually share resumes. They were amazed that I fit the requirements. Apparently they were having problems finding someone that understood multiple technologies. Anyway, started 10/24 and I cannot thank GOD enough. He really steered me in the right direction. God bless all of you looking.
It's like in technical. I know Meraki, Ubuiquiti, etc. But, DO YOU KNOW THIS *ONE*? DENIED. Obsession with ServiceNow when Connectwise, Zendesk, Freshdesk all did basically the same thing. Plus, KB articles in SNOW suck. ITGlue is way better.
@howtomoderate brah, get out of here with that Elon crap. Companies have increased in doing it for years. This isnt just Elon or Trump. Biden definitely never mentioned it.
We had it easier than our parents and our kids have it easier than us in this regard. Mind you we don't live in the US with it's issues in this regard. My last 9-5 that I was in was great, even though it was blue collar, and when they closed the site down they paid me a low 6 figure payout.
Paying almost $15,000 a year for two middle age adults’ health insurance is highway robbery. The majority of medical expenses happen to senior citizens and your insurance company can drop you at any time. Paid for a decade? You gave these criminals $150,000 and then they drop you when you need them most.
It is Mike's choice to pay it. All insurances are a rip off, but we make the choice to pay. If insurance is required to own/use a product then you make the choice to purchase the product and pay the required insurance. Choose your life, live your choice...
Most senior citizens are stuck in the past. Instead of selling all their assets and retired in a developing nation they chose to stick around. How long can your money last in US?
@@mrguiltyfoolMaybe they’re not too keen on leaving their children, grandchildren, friends, and communities/churches etc in the final chapters of their lives - right when they will need those relationships the most. This is hardly being “stuck in the past.”
@katharenchamberlain5721 it is stuck in the past. Most ppl nowadays barely get by so how will they take care of u. Hell i would even argue community support is no longer a thing
It's not a move away from the 9-5. It's a move away from benefits, health insurance, unemployment insurance, overtime, sick leave, and basically every hard won labor law in the last 200 years. You bet companies love it!
Absolutely! And to top it off , we don’t produce anything anymore. Only debt. $216+ trillion) They want to bankrupt the dollar, get rid of the middle class and move us into a generic , digital currency economy where we’re controlled what we buy, sell or how much we make.
Until the public can no longer afford to buy their goods or services- then they go broke, too. It's happening now on a scale that's unnerving. Millions of good hard-working people are about to loose everything.
I am retired and older. But I am seeing that young people simply to not want to be wage slaves. And I don't blame them. Working yourself to death to make other people wealthy in a job that is unfulfilling is not going to work for long.
Amen. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Things are NOT fine, by any stretch of the imagination. Even if YOU are fine, EVERYTHING is NOT fine. God Bless You All. 😊✌️❤💥
You are correct in 2/3 of your statement. But, outsourcing has been going on for longer than 25 years. It actually started in the 1960’s. I am old enough to witness it firsthand. Once companies saw how profitable it was to outsource more companies got on board. Political leaders tell you and want you to believe that American jobs were stolen, not true. Jobs were outsourced willingly for larger company profits…Just look how much CEO’s and Corporate Executives earn…
I’ve been in Tech for 20 years. I was laid off the week of Thanksgiving. I’m seeing a troubling trend where companies are moving from full time roles to 3-6 month contracts.
The last time that happened to me was the last time that happened to me, I refuse to play anymore and took steps. Do everything right then out of nowhere for no fault of your own you’re discarded like its nothing. Meanwhile folks at the top continue getting raises, bonuses and some earning enough wealth to last a thousand lifetimes.
@@JoesIceCreamCone The problem working tech, we spend money for equipment and labor hours, they see no money from our work. They pay the bonuses and commissions to other workers. They never stop to think if we did not do our jobs correctly the other people could not make money for them.
I have been working contracts in tech for decades. They pay well and let you write off a lot of things as part of your consulting business. Also, they keep you learning the new cutting- edge/popular technologies instead of being bogged down in some company's technology stack that was defined years ago. And if you are any good, one contract leads to another, and another so you can expand your footprint in the company by bringing in subs.
Tech bro from Canada. Even my former employer, the gov posts ghost jobs. Bank of Canada the ppl who print money even they are hiring 2 yrs contract worker instead of perma workers. If people who print money can't afford perma workers you know it is pretty bad out there
IT has had this forever this is not some hot new trend there has always been a % of the IT labor market on these type of contracts. The current cycle just shifted what % to this type of work welcome to the current shift. I been the guy on those contracts in my early IT career that is just how it works in IT and always has. Good Luck
We truly are just economic units in an economic zone. The issue with being an employee today is there is no stability and if you want to raise you need to roll the dice on another company. The young men in this country are being shut out of so much chance and opportunity only a matter of time before they start causing problems, basic history
Worked full-time- two jobs... In the late seventies- due to the economy BS- some worked only 35 hours (the maximum- without full-time benefits), most of us had to work two jobs, to survive, and pay our bills. I was young, when I began working, to pay for myself to survive. Since the late seventies, I have been scheduled full-time, but only paid for part-time work, and benefits. Working six days per week, as a manager, and only being paid as a part-time employee. I'm so glad to be done with that.
I have been freelancing for over 20 years. I did have a few corporate gigs were I was laid off the second the company had financial troubles. Honestly, there is no loyalty, So either companies pay a fair wage and they can go F themselves. People are done being exploited and corporations just want to whats good for them and workers are not falling for it anymore. So no wonder the push for ill.egal imm.igration so companies can continue to exploit.
At age 63, male, self employed, and living in Central Texas, I pay $1,207.20 per month for health insurance. So, a big "repair" bill for me is worth the monthly premium. I have a ridiculously low $500 deductible per year and a $3,500 out of pocket. After I pay that, health insurance pays 100%. I've already taken advantage of that since I paid only $3,500 for an $85,500 heart attack. I was happy to pay it.
@@francismarion6400medical insurance is too high and our overlords do not want to fix it more than likely due to big insurance lobbyists and medical field lobbyists. Actually, many doctors that work at hospitals and other medical facilities are forced into a type of factory output. They are mandated by the organization to see so many patients per hour. I've known doctors that quite their lucrative hospital positions because they were being forced to spend no more than 10 minutes per patient.
A lot of companies that are warming up to the idea of remote workers are also realizing that if someone in the US can work remote, why couldn't someone in India or Asia also work remote for 1/5th of the price minus bennies? Companies are not your friends and if they can find a way to cut costs, they will 100% of the time.
If they can do that for 1 remote worker they can also do it for a 100 workers in an office and do it in bulk. But yes we are all replaceable but thankfully so far in my field the folks from Asia are only good for grunt low level work. Wait until AI works it all out though then we are all gone including India.

For me personally, if it’s not remote then why would I leave 1 shit hole for another? Remote work at least takes some of the burden off of the never ending grind and allows for some freedom. I’d take a significant pay cut just to keep the freedom of no commute and no depressing office cubicle.

Within 10-15 years (maybe less) AI and robotics will replace millions of jobs, which will cause a lot of dislocation. Humans will not be able to compete against computer programs or robots that don't take vacations, don't get overtime, don't take sick days or form unions. Increasingly the commute to and from a job is becoming prohibitively expensive. Especially in major metro areas where local housing is to expensive, commutes are becoming longer (more gas) and the vehicle prices almost require a mortgage to finance.
I don’t understand why America, as many other countries doesn't have two shifts in schools, government works, doctors offices, banks etc. Some people would voluntarily agree to work different shifts, mid day shift, PT afternoon only or any other combination. Also, if we have two shifts in school system, kids would not be exhausted, hungry because lunch is early, tired because of tests etc. in that case, unemployment would drop, sick days would be less, we all will have better work-life balance. Not to mention that the places would not be overcrowded and it will be less stressful for everyone.
Tell my wife about "job security". Woman is super stuck in the past. The only "fields" that seem to be 'secure' are education & health--even with the burnout.
I don’t even think education and health are necessarily safe anymore. Both areas rely on heavy government funding and health also requires payment from third party insurance companies to pay their high fees. The more people that get laid off, the less taxes and less health insurance to pay for education and health care. The workers in education and health that stay employed will likely be even more overworked and more underpaid because they have to cover employee shortages.

You overhire trying to find the really good people before your competition sweeps them up. But you do so, knowing that there will be some people that are not going to fit. If people don't want to come back to office, they probably look at part time remote works with limited time frame like 3-6 months (probably extension). Then you have to pay for your own health insurance, which is more expensive than full-time employee for any company.
As you are aware, my firm only does landlord-tenant in Seattle. We have gone from 2 attorneys to 5 attorneys in 6 months and we are busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. We all work 10-15 hour days and we are still buried. Right now is a great time to be a vulture. If I don't do it someone else will... for less - and it's good for well into six figures. Feels like payback for having the governor proclaim that my job was a gross misdemeanor in 2020. What goes around comes around. Best thing is it has become so complex nobody out there has the skill set.
I assumed immediately that the "Accept the First Applicant" rule would create a new cottage industry around it. For example, a website just to take "Notifications" instead of "Applications". The landlord decides when he has a fair number of contacts and then presses a button to say the unit is open for applications. Or maybe creating really tedious, nitpicky applications to complete so that only the most serious and determined lessees will complete them. There's probably a separate cottage industry for lessees, to coach them how to be first in line. All of this cost for third parties gaming the system then feeds into the rental rates.

Eh maybe. Working remote for 5 years. With a large decentralized team of U.S. consultants all working remotely, has lead me to beleive that may be the case for some jobs. But the reality is that if language barriers and culture have any bearing on a team working well together or working with sales, that just isn't the case. People in the U.S. tend not to trust people with any sort of notable accent, unless it is a southern one. If you call bank of america and get a guy in Tennessee vs best buy with someone in India, you generally know what the difference in service is going to be, and people gravitate towards better. Similarly, talking to people hundreds of miles away for the first time makes those people not think you are spam. Right or wrong, that's how things work. A non-indian or non-chinese person won't have the the same opportunities in those countries, and that's just nature
Health insurance $1200 month to a for-profit company. Wouldn't it be nice if it was $500 a month more in taxes to a non profit gov instead? And you could own a private business without that penalty? USA is soooooo odd
Michael has a spouse, but if I was single and facing that, I'd go bare. $1200 a month is $14,400 a year. Even going 3 years without needing any hospital visits is $43,200 without even thinking about interest if that money was kept in CDs or Treasuries. $40K+ can cover many expensive procedures, and that's just going 3 years self-insured.
Make work 3 days a week with 12 hour shifts and up the pay to where it makes the same if not, a little bit more than a standard 9-5, Monday-Friday work schedule.
1200 per month in health insurance is mind boggling. At my job I pay 0 dollars for health insurance and 0 copays for two. It’s actually a miracle in this day and age. I feel incredibly fortunate.
That's not really true. The market data shows there is uncertainty ahead. Credit line has expanded and more people using credit to buy things. AI is just language models. Its no where near "Intelligence". The AI craze is not a real thing. Not yet anyways. Its all bS so you guys don't uprise and complain. They want to keep you sitting down thinking the "tech" is that powerful. When its not. Automation has been a thing for a decade yet no one was getting mass laid off. Open your eyes and educate yourself. We're being lied to.
I dont feel sorry for unemployed high earning individuals. If you've made over 6 figures for 5 years and you're unable to maintain a standard of living, that's totally on you. Try living off less than 40k a year for over 15 years. Those are the people i feel for.

Don’t get me wrong, inflation and rising taxes etc affects all of us but I have backgrounds in so many kinds of work that I could lose my job tomorrow and not even worry about it. I fix my own cars, fix and remodel my own house. It’s doable to have kids right now but it’s a lot harder.

You pay medical insurance only out of fear. Save that $$ and go all cash on procedures. The discounts are amazing. Anything heavy will be covered by law anyway. Relax.
You can doubt all the numbers but the truth is still this past holiday season saw the highest levels of spending since prior to the pandemic.
So my search for a small vacation home in a sunnier state continues. I might have found one in Nevada at the address below. Sure, that seems like a lot for a small studio. The taxes were about $500 for the year. And the $180 HoA includes everything: A/C, heat, electricity, water, trash, lawn care, etc...

Dual income households set the income bar from 40 hours a week to 80 hours a week. The worst thing we have done is make two incomes standard. We thought we were getting ahead, instead we just created inflation.
Now you should add a side hustle 😂
Should have been a red flag for all of us. It's when a full-time job isn't cutting it that people has to find a side gig or part-time just keep up with inflation.
AND there’s your answer. It was done voluntarily by the American people.
Now that you said it, its probably been the agenda all along as part of the demise of society.
How did God steer you in the right direction?

We had it easier than our parents and our kids have it easier than us in this regard.
Mind you we don't live in the US with it's issues in this regard.
My last 9-5 that I was in was great, even though it was blue collar, and when they closed the site down they paid me a low 6 figure payout.
You used only need one breadwinner too. Now both parents work all day and get nowhere.
Forgot to mention, until recent we were forced to work 50 to 80 hours but only paid for 40. Every generation has its issues.

This is a bi-product of 25 yrs of outsourcing production, losing wars and counterfeiting money to make up for it.
@ToniDuke-s7k you're right. I guess it just seems like we've put the pedal to the metal over the past 25 years.

Everything is falling apart
Thankful for two ply TP for now 😂

I have been freelancing for over 20 years. I did have a few corporate gigs were I was laid off the second the company had financial troubles. Honestly, there is no loyalty, So either companies pay a fair wage and they can go F themselves. People are done being exploited and corporations just want to whats good for them and workers are not falling for it anymore. So no wonder the push for ill.egal imm.igration so companies can continue to exploit.
I disagree, success is still there just harder than ever to grab hold of.
Bummer
But soon you can get on Medicare ($185/ mo plus 150 supplemental plus $20 R ... say 350 clams a month)

Thanks Michael I appreciate your videos very much.. Informative and accurate.
you know its cold outside when the man is wearing a shirt with sleeves
yes, there is a cold spell here in Southern Florida.
Michael you are doing a great job for the average person trying to gain some reality. But listening to you explain the struggle of the average person and how hard it now is to have any job security or benefits…….while you are walking past all of these beautiful multi million dollar house is really frightening and mind blowing. The gap between rich and poor is bad enough BUT the reality of the new working world makes those houses impossible for anyone not already wealthy . The American dream of a home and family life is all but dead
Thanks for your videos, so much information for everyone! Plus awesome views on the walk.
Having spent a career in tech hiring without thinking and then laying off when the reality sinks in is common. You overhire trying to find the really good people before your competition sweeps them up. But you do so, knowing that there will be some people that are not going to fit. This cycle repeats every 7 years or so. At one time the tech for getting a great job was core code development, office apps, web, and now it is ML/AI.
You Sir, have an important channel. What you tell us, is not heard by other media. Thank you.
I guess I should be happy. The only thing that didn't go up in price this year is my health insurance, went from $234 down to $197 for same coverage.
TVs keep getting cheaper. Usually don't need one for 15 years or longer so it doesn't save much over the long haul.
Very cool!
My brother is a packaging engineer, he worked off and on for J and J for years. Sometimes he worked for other companies too over the years. He also purchased real estate, he did both for years. He was so busy getting rich he forgot to stop and smell the roses. Now at 64 he’s retired, sold all his real estate and has millions but no wife or kids. Sad, there needs to be a happy medium.
If he had a wife, he might be 64 with no millions and a divorce.... and working himself to death just to survive, assuming he could even land a job at his age.
Your brother is a very smart man!
I'm 49 single child Free you don't need a wife nor children to be happy, happiness is within yourself not somebody else, I feel happy all by myself, I isolated myself from society bc people makes me anxious
In construction I work 12 hours a day building homes I can't afford even on Saturday just trying to feed my family and keeping a roof over our heads , 9-5 would be easy. Try paying off a house with 400 k in debt , plus electric, water HOA fees car payment, insurance , taxes phones, WiFi, car maintenance, gasoline , healthcare insurance, education,in today's world , yes I'm living the dream. FTC .
They just shut down the gas pipeline here in Las Vegas from California! People are panic buying! We get 90% of our aviation and gas for cars from ONE PIPELINE from California! God help us!
Thank you for this amazing video. It’s exactly what I needed.

My friend worked remote as a computer programmer during covid but was bombarded with phone calls interrupting his focus. Upon returning to the office 2 years ago he was berated, insulted and subject to constant unplanned demands for fast results with no prior analysis . He did it their way and walked , bought a fixer upper and adds to his own value
Health insurance works on fear knowing one extra bill can put you out of your house. We went without for 5 years saving me $600 a month.
My last 9-5 corporate role was 3 years ago, I gradually worked into full time contracting today that pays more AND has more schedule flexibility. I get a proper morning workout in every single day on my time. It was stressful for the first year but I can't believe how far it's come now. Web Development, Custom AI tools, and some media production.
i'm so glad i'm renting out 2 houses and own my place 0 debt also saved up to buy 3rd house for cash to rent out. if laid off will be able to get by of my rental profits. when i was laid off in my 20s it taught me to prepare for such situation and now im ready otherwise gonna work for 3-4 more years and quit myself
No one wants to work 9-5 but everyone wants stores to be open and services to be available during normal hours.
Downsized business op’s to our home, cut 10k in hard costs, 3k in soft cost per month….Efficiencies have spiked, removed 2.5 hrs of prep and travel each day, our quality of life has improved exponentially…We now have sex 5x per week, inclusive of quickies…Life is Grand & my Johnny is sooooooo happy😊
Damn all the rest, 5x a week you say!? 😆
I ran my company for 10 years working an out strategy because it was a black hole. I got to where I needed to be then cashed out and shrank down to a 5 person op doing contracting 100% remote with the option for limited on-site when each client needed. Talk about getting one’s life back and freedom. It hasn’t been free of challenges but…
In 2024, UPS laid off 14.000 employees. The next day, those same positions were posted. The laid off employees were not allowed to apply. Some real games and funny-business going on with new jobs and unemployment numbers.
Companies try to avoid benefits to employees at all costs. Also, giving you raises for being loyal, doesn’t work for their concept of profit.
I wish I could work a 9-5. I'm on my first break of a 4-4 shift😢
It stupid how much time in hourly jobs is just spend looking busy, waiting for the clock to expire. How much lost human productivity does this ridiculous system cause?
You just described me at my job. Don't worry though, AI is taking over
Macys Philadelphia closes on Wednesday..it’s right across from city hall and has been there for a long time in a beautiful building.
Used to be Wanamakers, a Philly Institution. Center City is a pale reflection of what it used to be.
If people don't want to come back to office, they probably look at part time remote works with limited time frame like 3-6 months (probably extension). Then you have to pay for your own health insurance, which is more expensive than full-time employee for any company.
You are the best at what you do keep up the good work
As you are aware, my firm only does landlord-tenant in Seattle.
Michael Just showed that list of companies hiring. They will get 20,000 resumes by tomorrow evening.
Overemployed means Working 2 or more jobs at the same time.
Moonlighting means working 1 job and then working another job after the first job is done.
I retired in May 2023, but the last couple of years, the job was 7:30 to 5:00 plus being on 24x7 on call.Never any comp time. Expected to work 7:30 even if they woke you up at 1:00am and worked for another few hours. That was NOT considered overtime. I hated it. I retired a few months earlier because I was tired of it and all the administrivia.
JC Penny’s and Forever 21 are merging... I expect store closures and layoffs for both....
Good
I find not much of anything in either one 😅
You can work from home just as easily from India or Mexico. I don't see it as a long terrm benefit for Americans expecting a decent salary.
Yes you're right, work from home is much better
Health insurance $1200 month to a for-profit company. Wouldn't it be nice if it was $500 a month more in taxes to a non profit gov instead? And you could own a private business without that penalty? USA is soooooo odd
Michael has a spouse, but if I was single and facing that, I'd go bare. $1200 a month is $14,400 a year. Even going 3 years without needing any hospital visits is $43,200 without even thinking about interest if that money was kept in CDs or Treasuries. $40K+ can cover many expensive procedures, and that's just going 3 years self-insured.
You will never ever get rich working a time clock for someone else, invest in yourself and work yourself as hard as you can. Make your OWN JOB.
Make your own job online
What kind?@@carlossebastiannecroticgot7232
Neighbor moved from CN to TX. He was work 2 full time jobs and a second one to survive. Moved to TX and started a junk removal business.
"paid time off , ppffft , no such thing" . Cracked me up and I fell outta my chair😎
A friend of mine in Tech just got laid off, and he says so many people he knows are getting laid off, and it's all because of AI .
AI and H-1Bs
Since 1980 and onwards, legislation is put in place that benefits billionaires and large corporations. For example, the destruction of unions to suppress wage increases, destruction of benefits and removing work safety regulations & standards. Corporations don’t have to pay taxes but receive government subsidies. Have greater freedom in releasing toxic chemicals into the air & waterways without any accountability. What benefits the billionaire class are government subsidies. Prior to 1980, legislation benefited the working person and consumer: Social security, Medicare, Medicaid, Civil Rights, unemployment insurance, National Labor Relations Board, 8 hr work day, 5 day work week, work place breaks & overtime pay, workman’s compensation, prevention of child labor, minimum wage act, workplace safety OSHEA, women’s rights, tax fairness, veterans pay and benefits, consumer protection, consumer bill of rights, background checks to prevent felons from getting weapons, funding public schools, grants for low income people to attend college, environmental regulations, clean water act, clean air act, financial regulations for keeping Wall Street accountable, voting rights act, Clayton Anti trust Act, Securities Exchange Act & National School Lunch Program... These are what the Reagan Revolution saw as big government, as socialism. We are feeling the effects of their erosion.
People having children in this day and age shock me
Pretty much everyone i know is having children
I have two, and we are doing very well
Exactly it's ridiculous
I have 5 kids but I’m one of the exceptions for this downward economic trend.
People have said that throughout history. People deciding to despite the challenges is how we got here.
More than a half of companies from the list are recruiting companies, they are the middle man between you and company they are actually hiring for. Also in most cases they are just collecting data and we are all know what are they doing with this data…
$1200.00 a month for health insurance that's insane
That’s actually cheap. I have coworkers that pay double that working in a cubicle farm.
My company pays most of mine. I pay $60 a month with a $3500 deductible.
$60.00 a month is reasonable but $1200.00 a month is absurd
