  • Since locking in our wedding venue, one of the very first things I did for wedding planning was to create our wedding website! And as a designer, I was very excited about this and felt a little bit (okay, maybe a lot a bit) particular about how our wedding website should be designed
    I tried all the sites and found it to be an interesting experience. Ultimately, we landed on one to go with, but since I did all research, I figured I would share exactly how I would design a wedding website on all these various platforms.
    Today, I’ve published the third video in a series of videos showing you the behind the scenes for how I would design a wedding website - this one is with Joy!
    Spoiler alert: We did decide to use Joy for our wedding website platform and I love it!
    Have you recently created a wedding website? How did it go? Are you about to? What’s your thought process? Lmk what you think here in the comments.

    Engaged art director here and SO happy you have this series because I was really wondering about the UX for both me and my guests! My hangup with it all was the RSVP but was being put off my all the super templated choices for more popular sites. Thank you!

    Thanks Alexa! Love the video! Especially after battling TheKnot for a few hours and getting frustrated with its lack of agility. And no video!!! My fiancé has tasked me with the website design and wedding coordination (as I have a production and event background) so I'm looking forward to checking out Joy.

    So happy I found your videos - since you're a designer, I trusted your opinion and went with Joy instead of Zola. So far the UX is great and I've been enjoying building my wedding website on Joy. It's making me more excited :)
    Will we get to see your final product? =D

    Hi Alexa! This was great-thank you. Did you use Joy’s guest list/rsvp function to manage your guest list? If so, I would love to hear what you think and potentially a tutorial 😅. Thank you!!

      Yay so glad to hear! I did use their guest list and RSVP tool! Thought it was great. I found it super easy to use and it definitely helped us manage guests info through collecting their responses. We did also supplement with a Google Spreadsheet for other personal things we needed to track as well.
      A tutorial is a good idea 🤔 thanks for that input!

      Glad you enjoy the video! I did love using Joy for our wedding website :) I'm sorry, but I'm not planning to do a video on this anytime soon -- I'm actually 35 weeks pregnant so slowing down with content for a bit! There's been a lot of interest in more wedding website videos though so it's definitely on my radar. I recommend reaching out to Joy's customer support team for any technical questions. You should be able to chat them (bottom right side) from this page: help.withjoy.com

    Hey Alexa, thank you for such a wonderful and explicit video. I have a question, after designing the website using Joy, can you just share the url and people access your site or must you purchase a domain name and hosting to link your site to?

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa  10 месяцев назад +1

      You're so welcome! You do not need to purchase a domain name with Joy -- there's a free one you can use and I was able to select a URL name that I really liked no problem. Hope that helps :)

    Hi Alexa! Thanks for sharing. Were you able to send your save the date and invitations from Joy? I´ve tried with my email and the invitation does not arrive. The RSVP button does not appear on the home page either. And it freaks me out a little that even if you buy the domain it only serves as a mask, did you notice that? After that it looks like a really complete platform.

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa  2 года назад +2

      Hey María! Answers below:
      Q: Were you able to send your save the date and invitations from Joy? I´ve tried with my email and the invitation does not arrive.
      A: We sent our Save the Dates through Joy and didn't have any issues with this. Have you checked your spam for it? We did have some people who this happened too, though we could see in the backend if they hadn't opened it yet and asked them to check. They always found it. If it's still not working, def recommend reaching out to Joy's support team and see what could be going on. For invites, I believe they use a 3rd party company for printing. I think you export your list and upload that to their 3rd party who coordinates printing them. I personally designed and printed our wedding invites since I have a design background, so I did everything manually. Wish I could add more perspective to your question here but I can't!
      Q: The RSVP button does not appear on the home page either.
      A: If you're not seeing it then I believe you need to go into the settings and turn on the toggle for RSVP. Once that's active you should see the button! Again, I recommend reaching out to Joy's support team to check if that doesn't work.
      Q: And it freaks me out a little that even if you buy the domain it only serves as a mask, did you notice that?
      A: Why does that freak you out? I'm not 100% sure I am understanding this one. I personally liked our non-custom domain with the Joy platform - I got the first choice for domain name that I wanted.
      LMK what you think and if you have any follow ups!

    Hi there, great video! Do you know if this platform allows guests to send messages back to us as we’d like to offer up the option for them to enter a song they’d like to hear at our wedding.

      Hello! I don't remember exactly, I'd recommend reaching out to Joy to confirm! I do remember you could send messages to guests though. And for the virtual RSVP feature you can request guests to include a song which is what we did! Hope that helps :)

    We are using joy for our wedding website i have a question about sending the invites though....when I read online it says to send invites out 3 months before but in our case this is far too late! We were thinking send it out 9 months before with a rsvp for 3 months before as everyone has to travel and that way they all have access to the website and we who has rsvp'd quickly or has left it late and we know who can come to what. Has anyone else done this??

    • @HelloImAlexa
      @HelloImAlexa  6 месяцев назад

      Hi there! I actually thought the same thing with our wedding as well! I think weddings have a lot of traditional aspects to them but I think you should do whatever feels right to you.
      Usually "save the dates" go out first, many months ahead of time (I think we sent ours out around 10-11 months out) and on the wedding website we had our RSVP there ready for people and some people did fill it out but not most. Then RSVPs are sent much closer to the wedding -- like 2-3 months as you noticed. I think we sent ours out around 3 months out from the wedding date. I was pretty reluctant to this and wanted to send them like 5 months out or something and would have preferred people to let us know as soon as they could (like many months in advanced!) but now that I'm a mom and I was pregnant most of last year, I can understand better that some people just can't really tell you that far in advanced and need to give you a RSVP once its closer. Life happens, people don't know who they want to bring as their +1, just not everyone has everything figured out! The RSVP around 2-3 months out also helps remind people to fill out their RSVP so you dont need to track people down. Anyway, hope that helps!
