  • Recovery of two vehicles that fell through "late" ice.

    Post your tips in the comments to stay safe on the ice, especially for late-winter Ice.
    Tips to Stay Safe on the Ice In a Vehicle
    - If the ice is thick enough for parking, move your vehicle every two hours to prevent sinking.
    - Make a hole near your vehicle; if water begins to overflow, move your vehicle immediately.
    - Ice seldom freezes uniformly and weakens as it thaws. Check ice in different places, not just once.
    - Park vehicles at least 50 feet / 15 meters apart.
    - Avoid areas where other vehicles have parked previously.
    - Roll a window down and unlock doors in your vehicle.
    - Avoid pressure ridges and areas with currents (such as channels).

    And just a few hours earlier those guys were saying…. “Let’s go to the lake. The ice is good. Should be good. Better be good. We’ll be fine!”
    P.S. I’ll bet there aren’t too many qualified airboat captains in Canada. This guy is the first I’ve seen. I thought they were all gator hunting and taking tourists out in Florida.

      I don't have any experience in recovering vehicles so can not give advice. One of the wheels sunk deep in the mud - this was their biggest problem. Also, they didn't put it in neutral.

      @@aseev Perfect! As an old wrecker driver myself we called the type ice…. Soft ice! Stay off it because it’s not safe! Not for the first attempt I watched “they didn’t work together and was unsafely jerking when originally they had winch and ramp could have done the retrieval! Once they broke out the whole area the problem compounded!

    • @aseev
      @aseev  Год назад +3

      The recovery attempts were chaotic, but, to be honest, I didn't know what to do in that situation either. I was just an observer and recorded an unusual for me event. Now I know what to do in situations like this - call professionals with an airboat.
