    Hey Fred, it's a nice warm day, there is about 4 inches of water on top of the ice and it's been 55 degrees the past 4 days, let's take the truck out on the ice.

      Only some kind of moron would drive on frozen ice, as if it wouldn't start to crack. That Truck alone is close to 6000lbs. My 2016 Scion TC is 3,124lbs it's a 2 door car that weighs over 3,000lbs. That's a heavy boat with a V8 that weighs a ton, what did he think was going to happen on the ice.

      It's a way of the north IF there is lots of ice!! But then you get stupid people that think any ice is good ice to hold a truck, and then everyone see's these kind of videos and thinks that all trucks fall through the ice. Meanwhile thousands of trucks drive on the lakes each winter and 99% of them drive out and drive back off with no problems. In the early 1900's they use to drive teams of horses pulling logs across frozen lakes.

    You guys did a great job, how ever you work way to hard, I worked a good number of these situations with a company that uses a lifting unit on two large platoons center over the vehicle drop four cable hook one to each wheel lift high enough to clear the ice and skid the complete system off the ice, in open water the rig can actually float every thing all accomplished with 3 people.

    • @edduda3
      @edduda3  4 года назад +2

      Randy wallander we use a barge and crane or air bags and tow it in with open water. This case the ice was garbage.. there was no way of putting a mega cab diesel plus rigging on it. I was thinking a Sikorsky CH-53E to sling it out...

    When I was a teenager in the late 50's, my brother and I got caught on an ice flow in Lake Erie. While we were able to swim back to the shore, many ice shanty's, vehicles and gear were lost on the ice as the large ice ob probably ten miles square, broke up. Many folks were rescued off the ice with helicopters and boats.

    Hi from South -Western ontario Canada I love hard water fishing and experienced the same as pictured on a few years of this sport. in my case it was caused by hitting a spot on the ice sheet caused by leaking gas wells underwater from the surface about 2 feet in diameter that you cannot see travelling at 5 -6 mph on 16 to 24 inches of ice. but with little body damage just had to dry it out and change fluids. and spend 24 to 36 hours of hauling gear and working in a T shirt to keep from sweating too much.Too Much Fun!!!!!!!
    Now a days I use a good used Ski Doo Tundra wide track wit a 550 fan cooled machine studded track with low gear intact.i can climb the ice ridges with a floater Arctic Jacket. and gps.

    Right at 3:16 you see an oil slick pop up in the water. Certainly an indication that some kind of vehicle or machine is right below. I don't know....maybe this comes from being born and raised in Miami but I would not feel comfortable driving a truck out on a frozen body of water. I know people do it all the time and I guess every so often they hit a thin spot in the ice and lose their trucks. My cousin was also born and raised in Miami. He has lived in Minnesota for the last 10 years and he does the ice fishing thing. They tow big camper trailers out on the ice so they can stay out there with all the comforts of home. His trailer is one of those ones that have retracting wheels so the trailer lays flat on the ice. They there are holes in the floor of the trailer so they can fish in the warmth of the trailer. Heat, satellite TV, bathroom, etc. But no need for a cooler...just put the cold stuff outside. LOL. I don't know how he does it.

      if you have good ice yes... out best ice was 5-6" , but I think the skid sea-saw method is pretty slick too.

    • @edduda3
      @edduda3  4 года назад +1

      Anything can be fixed... in this case not worth it and insurance will cover until your contract ie policy is completed. Then you renew... I'm sure your premium will increases a bit...lol

    So did you cut a channel all the way back to the boat launch from 2 miles out?

    • @edduda3
      @edduda3  5 лет назад

      No just to shore probably 400-500 ft before it became too dangerous to cut. Used an ice boat and broke up the rest of the way to shore.

  • @randywallander82
    @randywallander82 5 лет назад +3

    I have been involved with a good number of this kind of recovers, good work guys but you work way to hard, we lift them out and get the vehicle back to shore with out putting another scatch on the vehicle, 3 man job. This rig also can float the vehicle in open water

    • @edduda3
      @edduda3  5 лет назад +1

      Yes we can remove them that way also with zero ice or 12 plus but this case was probably the worst conditions I have ever removed a 7k# Chunk of steel. It was fine until it hit the shore and flipped. Send me pics of your rig... I’m building a teeter toddler sled atv setup.

    • @randywallander82

      The rig I work with pretty much any ice or no ice it works well, goggle bay side ice and marine recovery should see some photos.

    • @edduda3
      @edduda3  5 лет назад

      thank you. It not that dangerous or at least we do not take chances for a scrap steel pile and price numbers are all over due to conditions, depth and spills.

    I'm missing something here. Why is there so much damage on the truck for falling thru the ice in the middle of the lake?

    • @richardsimmons6526
      @richardsimmons6526 5 лет назад

      Cause the ice doesn't break cleanly around the truck it usually breaks one end first then the ice fucks up shit. Depending on how thick it was.

    • @calvinstachniak4876
      @calvinstachniak4876 5 лет назад +1

      @@richardsimmons6526 not like that. Theres missing parts. U csnt tell me ice did it. Theres more to the story

    • @ScarabChris
      @ScarabChris 5 лет назад

      Same here. I just posted on this exact concern. In Miami when you have a vehicle go in the water by accident it usually isn't all smashed up. I guess the ice can do some damage but that thing looks like it was run into a brick wall at 50 MPH plus it looks like stuff missing from the dash.

    • @richardsimmons6526
      @richardsimmons6526 5 лет назад

      Ok he was going to fast and hit some thin ice.

    Always a fine idea to drive a large and heavy truck on the ice rather than a light weight vehicle (like a snowmobile with a sled for example) as you can clearly see. And no insurance will pay for it and shouldn't.
