  • This is the second of two videos capturing the March 6, 2011 Wild Ammonoosuc RIver Ice Flow in Woodsville, NH. This video takes place at the intersection of route 112 with rt 302. This footage captures the ice flow transitioning from dynamic, mass movement of ice to a static, mass jam. This jam is due to the constriction of two bridges crossing the river channel. Eventually the river undermines the ice jam due to the hydraulic head upstream of the ice jam.

I love how he still gets excited and is totally in awe of this event, even though he has clearly seen it happen enough to anticipate what will happen next. Made my heart smile. *The wonders of nature!!*

I remember this day clearly! I was catching icedams on the Winooski, Mad, and Lamoille River's this day. It was a surreal day to be out. The next morning we had 25 inches of new snow, and close to 3 feet when it was all said and done later that day!

It's astonishing how at one point one side of the bridge is so dynamic and the other side so static.

When he was five I took my son over the falls in my lap, did a 180 and we hid behind the falls for a while. Don't try that at home please.
