    I like that echo knows when to talk and when to listen. And I don’t mean that in a bad way, so many podcast co hosts are constantly putting in their opinions and what not. Love that he just chills and listens. And when he does chime in it’s always relevant

    Very few service members have spoke about the war being a losing situation. The culture has been mentioned by even fewer generals. One of if not the single greatest view point of the war being lost.

    @31:49 Jocko: "Rangers are the most Spartan of the Special Ops Units"
    Thats always been my sense as well. No SOF Unit goes out of its way to make its new members feel "not special" as the 75th.
    Privates seem to basically be relentlessly tormented by NCOs - until they get to Ranger School and return a "made guy". Which can take more than a year in some cases.

    You kind of do inherit self-confidence and discipline. These are traits of extroversion and conscientiousness. Jordan Peterson spoke about this on your show in relation to the Big 5. There is a large genetic component related to this. You can improve these to a degree but everyone is different in what they are handed.

    • @xavierryan4602
      @xavierryan4602 Год назад +2

      I dunno if they get into it in the 'cast or not, but the environment we grow up in can destroy our self confidence and discipline. It's pretty close to inheriting it, if our parents and family fucked us over so bad and for so long that we were trained not to have self confidence or discipline.
      Once a person gets to believing there is no hope, and/or that they are worthless, it sure as fuck aint a matter of discipline any more.

    • @Andrew-qc8jh
      @Andrew-qc8jh Год назад

      @@xavierryan4602 I had two highly abusive parents. One I was told met the criteria of a personality disorder and the other now looking back I really think did. I was told growing up at times I was worthless, evil, and shit, literally. I have spoken about this to a therapist that I think I survived my childhood largely because of a genetic component. I don't see otherwise. Mom even had 4 miscarriages. Her body was rejecting the fetuses.
      My honest intelligence and willpower kept me alive. My inherit confidence. My intelligence aided me in that I was self-aware enough to learn and see through my parent's shit. Now I did come out with a lot of damage and it has taken me an incredible amount of work, to get through it. Today I have already meditated for over 2 hours and have been doing research to grow.
      With all this being said, we always have a choice. Choosing a road to discipline and integrating into society is up to us but it is true some have it harder than others with their choices. I also think it's fair to mention I did have some family members who were healthy that gave me perspective and people to look up to.
