Evil Dead Rise Movie Description:
A reunion between two estranged sisters gets cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
Evil Dead Rise is a 2023 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Lee Cronin. It is the fifth installment of the Evil Dead film series. The film stars Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland as two estranged sisters trying to survive and save their family from deadites. Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher (in her film debut) appear in supporting roles.
The film's development was preceded by scrapped plans for direct sequels to Evil Dead (2013) and Army of Darkness (1992), and a fourth season of Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-2018). By October 2019, Sam Raimi announced that a new film was in development, with Rob Tapert producing, Raimi and Bruce Campbell executive producing, and Cronin writing and directing the project. New Line Cinema (the first film's distributor) was announced as a production company involved. Principal photography took place in New Zealand from June to October 2021. The film was originally set to premiere on the streaming service HBO Max, but distributor Warner Bros. Pictures opted to release the film theatrically first after positive test screenings.
Evil Dead Rise had its premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) on March 15, 2023, and was released in the United States on April 21, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, and has grossed over $146 million worldwide against a production budget of $15-19 million, making it the highest-grossing film in the series.

Alyssa Sutherland really hit home run with her performance. Its like she's made for horror films.
Fun fact: you can actually hear Ash from the previous evil dead films shout destroy the book on the record here. And in army of darkness, you see 3 books of the dead and the director confirmed the this is 1 of the 3 books. The one from the 2013 film was the second book

It's gnarly, but surprisingly tame compared to the 2013 Evil Dead 😂 That needle to the eye scene still haunts my brain.
While the film premiered at SXSW, a heckler cursed at the cast and producers, saying, "That movie F--king sucked! What was the point of all that!? It was worse than the last one!"
Bruce Campbell told the heckler, "F--k you man! You don't like it, get the f--k out of here!"
Security escorted the guy out, and Sam Raimi jokingly said, "He didn't bother to watch the post credit scene?" The audience cracked up laughing.

I remember watching this in theaters. We sit closer to the screen since it's easier for my grandma, and when that title rose up, it felt like it invaded every part of my vision. It turned me and Grandma and the seats around us red with the lighting.

There are 3 different books thats why they look different. All 3 were in Army of Darkness when he has to choose which book to use in the graveyard.
Really glad that Warner Bros. decided to nix the HBO Max release and give this film a theatrical release instead.

The 2013 remake is my favorite. Evil Dead 2 comes in second for me. This and the OG tie for 3rd. Army of Darkness is the only one I find to be meh. I love camp, but that was a bit much.

I liked evil dead rise better than the remake! I felt the remake was good but not my fav! I really like the scene with the peep hole and how it was all filmed in like this tiny apartment and i like how theh werent afraid to go after the kids and infect them and have them go through the violence as well! Also u should watch how it was made! The lead actress did a lot of stuff on her own! So cool

It's probably my 2nd to last favorite Evil Dead movie, but I still think this is one of the most solid franchises ever.
Check out Carrie (1976). It's half a Brian DePalma film, half an Alfred Hitchcock film. And a young Sissy Spacek and the other hot actresses aren't bad either.

Edit: The 2013 film is indeed more gory and because of that more scary, but I think this one has the best characters. This is currently my favorite with 2013 and Evil Dead 2 following behind (in no particular order).
Also, the show is only like 15 hours total. 3 seasons each consisting of 10 half hour episodes. You don't necessarily have to do reactions to the show, but reviews for each season would be nice.
I think the problem is that they couldn’t go too ‘hardcore’ with the child characters, therefore Ellie for example can only do *intimidating* things around those characters but never actually really attack them, and it loses suspense after a while.
Though they do get attacked and infected, you know she’s not gonna ragdoll the toddler until she’s holding nothing but a dismembered leg, or carve the son’s eyes out of his face, so they have to write the character dancing around them instead of viciously attacking. Beth’s the main character who lives by the end so you can’t mess her up too much, but I mean after Ellie gets locked out she murders the entire hallway in like 30 seconds, so she could’ve tried harder
I don’t know that I or anyone else would have wanted to actually see kids hurt like that in a movie though, maybe it just shouldn’t have been about a family. Or have at least one of the kids be closer to 18-ish so they can get brutalised without it being ‘too far’.

Everyone who reads the book out loud is an idiot (unless the book is literally compelling them to do so), but that kid opening the "fangs" of the book without using some sort of tool is a whole other level. Side note - if you ever get a chance to, check out Ash vs Evil Dead the series. REALLY think you'd enjoy it

This one would have been A1...if all the effects was all practical...but still enjoyed the suspense alot ot the scenes had
How you expected the elevator scene to go, so did I, as it did in the film before it, this happened to me atleast 3-4 times throughout this film, it’s still a great movie but I saw the build up in this movie to certain scenes and expected the absolute worst, much like we got in the last film, however those 3-4 scenes fell short to what I was expecting, not a bad movie at all, absolutely solid sequel to the 2013 reboot, I just thought it was going to go harder in some scenes.
The cat was another example, I love cats more then anything else in this world, but in the last film we saw “grandpa” the dog get a horrific ending, so when the cat was introduce then highlighted again later in the film I thought to myself “oh boy here we go, this shit is about to break me” then nothing happened..
Loved the movie but the 2013 reboot scared me more, it wasn’t “better” it just pushed my buttons way harder then this one.
The acting all around was solid and the mother was amazing in her role.
Great film, but it felt like the horror was dialed back from a 11/10 from the last film to a respectable 9/10 this time around.
P.s I’d hit it too, sexiest demon of all time, up there with Lilith from Diablo 4..
