(2:51) Smith was not without a sense of humor, and he occasionally would spoof his bad guy persona. In one of the Roger Corman bike films, for example, he has some terrified guy up against the wall, and the 'second biker' comes in, saying, "Snake, Snake..gotta talk to ya about something.." Smith turns around and says, "Can't you see I'm busy menacing somebody?" The audience roared. What a dude. RIP big guy...

Indeed he was. They could make a separate video on just his life. He was fluent in 5 different languages, particularly Russian. So good in fact that in addition to flying secret missions over Russia, he served as a Russian intercept interrogator. He held both CIA and NSA security clearances and was recruited to be an interpreter for NATO. In the film "Red Dawn" he plays a Russian Colonel who was brought in to beef up the moral of the Russian troops in occupied US. He delivered a long, rousing speech to the troops in perfect Russian. He was a lifelong body builder who held many titles - particularly for his incredible arms. (Greatest guns in the West?) In his later years he became a photographer and a poet. (Even having a book of poetry published in 2009). We all know he played a great bad guy - but some of my favorite scenes were on Laredo, when Shelley Morrison would appear as his love-sick, stone-faced girlfriend - Linda Little Trees. Hysterical!

@@mamiebobb4173 Red Dawn is one of my favorite movies from the '80s. I had no idea that William Smith was in it. The cast had a lot of current and future stars. Director John Milius did a masterful job telling an all too realistic story that could have easily been reality. I'll definitely be watching this again, looking for William Smith. IMO he looked amazingly like Tom Skerritt who, ironically, was also a Russian operative in Red Dawn. His role as "Jack Wilson" in "Any which way you can " gave Clint Eastwood a run for his money. I remember this one very well. I checked out his resume on IDMB. Incredible resume of work. What a talented person in life. To be able to speak 5 languages is indeed admirable. Thanks for bringing his role in Red Dawn to my attention. Cheers to the life of William Smith.

Nobody has mentioned this, so I will, Bill Smith was in "Darker than Amber" with Rod Taylor as Travis McGee, the detective and Bill as a blond psycho killer. They eventually came in contact in a hotel room fight. Taylor said that the fight went from acting to for real when somebody hit somebody TOO hard. Taylor came out of the fight clothes ripped up, both were bloody and Taylor said it was the most VICIOUS acting fight he'd ever been in., in reality or acting. If you can find a copy of "Darker than Amber" you can see the fight.
