  • Hey loves,
So today I wanted to break down all the marketing tactics these brands will use to get y’all to buy into their products marketed as texturizers. Don’t get me wrong, texturizing your hair can really be the start of a great healthy relaxed hair journey…
HOWEVER, texturizers are just that… relaxers. And unfortunately, brands will sometimes mislead us into believing otherwise.
If you’re considering texlaxing your natural hair, definitely watch this video for an overview on what texturizers are and some of the misconceptions being spread by some relaxed hair brands.

I used lithium hydroxide texturizers and they worked well- very gentle on my hair. I’m moving to calcium hydroxide relaxers - I just didn’t have enough loosening, had to keep doing correctives

Ok so a relaxer is for natural hair, obviously for someone who no longer wants to keep their natural hair state. In order to be relaxed you have to start with natural hair. Texturizer isn't for someone is relaxed, its fir people who have a natural hair texture. A person who has relaxed cant put on texturing and miraculously end of with textured hair. Further just because the ingredients are the same doesn't mean the amount and strength are the same. If sugar is the prevailing ingredient in to of my products one can have half a cup and the other a full cup, the amount is different but the ingredient is still the most prevalent as compared to other ingredients.

I'm relaxed after being natural for 3 years. I used a relaxer for my virgin application by a so-called professional and hated the results. I missed my thick, luscious kinks. *tear*. What I missed the most was the weight and thickness, not the maintenance. I noticed my coworker who happened to be Dominican had straight, yet thick strands that she hated, (go figure) but that was the result that I wanted. She suggested using a texturizer instead and I haven't looked back. I use "Alter Ego Linage" lye texturizer and it doesn't dry out my hair and gives me the results I want. I know many products on the market are misleading, but this brand and a lot of other brands I noticed used by Dominicans are pretty straight forward. It's all about application as well.

Sis you can’t use a texturizer on hair that is already relaxed… it’s meant help loosen the curl so you would need to be natural virgin hair to use it. I don’t see the issue at all. We already know a texturizer is a relaxer obviously the ingredients are the same you tripping. You leave the texturizer in FOR FIVE - TEN MINUTES MAX including time spent putting it in so it’s less strain aka more gentle than a relaxer stay in for for like 20 minutes

Also, ingredient lists are not done based on concentration of the product its based on the percentage in the product. You have a product that is 40% of a product at 100% concentration of that ingredient and also have another product that 40% of the same ingredient at 60% concentration. Its still the same ingredient

    • @GoddessesGodsCosmeticsLLC

@@user-zx5xw4yw2e I agree it is marketing for the most part. There may be some brands that actually make their texturizer weaker but it is based on keeping it in for much shorter time than relaxer. That’s probably it. The texturizer sometimes comes with oil to dilute them a bit- you can add that to any relaxer though. For me the big difference is that lye relaxers do not make my hair straight ever. So they’re good texturizers for me.

You have told the God's honest truth here! I was natural a number of years ago then when back to weaves then moved to a very humid climate and lost total control of my natural hair and became fed up with weaves. Someone suggested getting a texturizer, HUGE MISTAKE. I would have been better off with a big chop or just give me the perm! One thing you said, which was spot on, you will not get consistent results as far as texture throughout your hair using a texturizer (the ironies of ironies). And when you think about it, of course not, most people I know how different types of hair textures on their head so how in the world are you to get consistency? if that is what you're looking for? I should have stayed natural and tried harder or just got a relaxer, now I'm in purgatory. Glad that's off my chest LOL. GREAT VIDEO, again SPOT ON!
