Want to know which relaxer you should use on your hair? The relaxed hair market can be SUPER overwhelming-do you go with a lye relaxer, no lye relaxer, lo-lye relaxer-I mean, it’s A LOT. And you don’t want to accidentally end up with a curly perm or wave nouveau… Because, yeahh, that’s embarrassing. Trust me, I’ve been there.
Stick to the end of this video for a FULL explanation on all the different types of relaxers out there. Which is better, lye or no lye? What’s your choice?

Lye relaxers definitely win in my opinion. I love how they leave a thick texture on my hair and my hair somehow feels stronger and healthier.... I hate bone straight flat lifeless hair no lye relaxers give me.

I just learned a few days ago that some relaxers have lye in them, i assume all relaxers had no lye i even if they didn’t say it. Pretty sure I’ve had both ! Definitely explains why some relaxers work better then others . I’ve used motions and love that relaxer and I’m pretty sure it’s a lye relaxer which is why it works better .

Bronze Beauty Haha Aww thank you honey! I appreciate the love. And yup, I never heard of it before I used one! It is a mild relaxer. It has a lower concentration of the sodium hydroxide chemical. I just googled it and mine has less than 2.5% sodium hydroxide, so it’s basically a texturizer!

I have very fine 3 b to c hair. I have been getting the Mizani Butter No-lye for sensitive skin (mild formula). I stretch to 4 months and I get a tex-lax result. My stylist puts it in, no burning, and takes it out. I've heard horror stories lately about Mizani, and am now scared to get it when my salon reopens next week. Would Design Essentials low-lye be better? I usually follow the Mizani with Olaplex 3 right after neutralizing. Also name some chelating shampoos for relaxed hair please. Love you and your channel. I now use a lye relaxer that my stylist applies and I am experiencing what you've mentioned. I have a slightly sensitive scalp and I am tender-headed. With the lye relaxer, my hair seems more moisturized compared to when I used boxed no-lye however I'm still experiencing not much length or strength to my hair. I have fine soft hair and my hair just feels thinner in some places. Would you recommend switching to lo lye? Maybe I just need a better hair-care regimen.

Adede Assem Yay, I’m so glad this came in perfect timing for you! ❤️ So because lo-lye relaxers are lower strength relaxers you can also opt for a texturizer. I don’t know other brands off-hand that label their low strength relaxers “lo-lye” but I know ORS makes a lye texturizer. They’re a good brand so you can check that out. That’s an over the counter option. On your hunt, just make sure the ingredients have sodium hydroxide (lye) as an ingredient. Strand testing is always a good idea. Good luck boo!! ❤️😘

Hey! It's hard to say exactly without seeing your hair. For instance, my hair texture is very coarse and resistant to chemical treatments but my strands are fine and prone to breakage. I really don't think extra strength relaxers are necessary for most people. Probably a normal strength relaxer is fine. And do you have a sensitive scalp? If not, I would suggest a normal strength lye relaxer. ORS Olive Oil is a great brand. Xoxo

@@AlexisKimberlyy Thanks for your quick response but, I don't have sensitive scalp. My hair dresser used a lye relaxer named affirm then syntonics botanical products which processed my hair okay but as my hair grew it became thin. Right now, I have been out of the relaxer hair scene for about 6 years and unsure if any new lye relaxer you recommend for same hair type like yours. I also used the keracare product line when my hair was relax and now while natural.

    • @AlexisKimberlyy
      @AlexisKimberlyy  4 года назад +2

@@donnasummers8 Gotcha. So, I personally use Design Essentials Lo Lye Relaxer with Olive Oil and Shea Butter. It's not available on the regular consumer market and can only be purchased by professions. But, it's technically a lower strength relaxer than a normal strength relaxer. "Lo-lye" is essentially the same thing as a "texturizer." Unfortunately, I' can't recommend one specific product other than what I use, but many of my subscribers tell me they use the Just for Me Texturizer or the ORS Olive Oil normal relaxer. ORS also has a texturizer that I believe is a lye formula, so I'm thinking that should give you similar results to my hair. I always recommend lye if you don't have a sensitive scalp. I hope that's helpful! Xoxo

    • @AlexisKimberlyy

Hey babe! Thanks for supporting my channel! Yes, so long as both relaxers are hydroxide-based (so, say a calcium hydroxide to a sodium hydroxide), you're good to go. As a general rule, I'd refrain from frequently switching products and brands so you can have more consistent results, but you're totally fine if you want to switch over to lye. Good luck, love!

Thank you so much for the information! I am getting my hair relaxed Wednesday (first time in 3 1/2) years. I', thinking of either getting a Lo-Lye or a Lye relaxer. Apparently you said Lye is not typically found in beauty supply stores :(
Where could I find the Lo-Lye relaxer?

Ensley Beauty Supply sells professional black hair products and relaxers. They are a distributor for Mizani, KeraCare, etc. You can buy at low prices without a license. Shipment is fast.

I used organic roots olive oil no lye relaxer to straighten my hair.... After the treatment, I used flat iron and dryer to get straight hair. After 24 hours my hair started curling back again.... Is it compulsory to use dryer and flat iron after every wash? How long does typical no lye relaxer maintain straightened hair?

The best relaxer is Affirm w Fiberguard.

Oh my..where to begin. First of all anyone can go buy a sodium hydroxide perm ..not just from a beauty supply ..you can buy from Walmart. You just have to buy the right one the right strength..mild , regular, super..a perfect relaxer result is the above sectioning hair , keeping product off scalp when applying and work fast.
And neutralize properly after product has been thoroughly rinsed from the hair that means the scalp and every piece of hair you can even leave the neutralizer on your hair for like 4 minutes and then thoroughly rinse that- neutralizing should be done twice...
I came here to find out about No lye relaxers but I'm not sure what I think now..I'm thinking stick to what I know..
