Alright then Professor!! LOL! Love it!! I bought an actual relaxer after being natural almost 5 yrs. I left it on 10 minutes from start to finish. My hair is still curly, and when folks ask, I tell them I have a relaxer. They look at me like I am lying. Oh well! I still do rodded braid outs and it gives me lots of curls! I was done with the 3 hour detangling sessions. Now it takes 15-20 minutes..BAM....I am done detangling. I don't care about the natural title anymore, my hair is healthy....I'm good!
the relaxer didn't take to your hair since its been natural for so long . same thing happened to me when getting a relaxer after 2 years of being natural :)
I purposely bought a regular instead of super, although my hair is thick and coarse. I didn't want it straight, just more softer and manageable. Its growing fast too. I already have 2 inches of new growth and just got it retouched in May. May have to retouch on Sept instead of Oct.
And please hear this ladies and gentlemen! Just because there is a Child on the box does not mean that it is milder or in any way different from the product with the adult on the box!
Thanks, I have been texturizing since I moved from east coast to west coast/desert. My hair HATED the dry desert heat. I mean I woke up one morning did my normal wash n go using my old standby products and I could not comb my hair. My curl was crazy. I looked RAW. So I chopped it off, lightly texturized my hair and by lightly I mean I used Soft and Beautiful Botanical texturizer and only left it on for 3 min. I also changed styling products for more moisture. Mad that I can't call myself natural anymore but sometimes you gotta do what makes You happy. Besides it seems now we got a new war amongst African American women. It used to be light skinned vs dark skinned now its relax vs natural. Can't we just support each other as sisters.😄

I used a texturizer in my hair.. and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! When I finally took the weave out, cut my hair down to a tapered fro after being natural for 2 years ... i loved it. my hair was spiral, coily and kinky but definintely had a mind of its own. After getting frustrated because my hair would always be frizzy and although when the curls were defined they seemed to go all over the place, I couldnt take it anymore! No product worked... I finally used a texturizer less than a week ago. Edges forever laid... hair actually absorbs the product... i can feel my scalp... and i dont have to use as many products anymore which saves me alot of time and money. now i have the 'wash and go' style i always thought i would get once i cut my hair. i dont know how people ended up with straight hair. What I did was start from the back 'shortest part of my hair' and stopped at the front/crown area. i followed the instructions leaving the texturizer in for no more than 16 minutes for my specific hair type. what made it difficult is that because once you put the product in, it startss working immediately so you are on a time crunch. the front didnt process as long as the back, so both portions are curl, the back more looser than the front - INITIALLY! another thing about the texturizer is that it your curls come back SLOWLY! its a 3 day process (for me anyways) the back was longer, like one loose semi-pathetic curl :/ but by day 3 it was a a beautiful spiral. same with the front, the time i put it in for didnt change my curl pattern, just gave me more hangtime... elongated it and made it more defined! so i guess you can say i went from 4b in the back 4a everywhere else to 3b in the back and 3c everywhere else. I do say this, put the product in the area where you want it to be loosest FIRST! let me know if you have questions IG: lowkeyjane
Sure I used the just for me package.i left it in for around 16 minutes and instructed by the box for my hair texture.... I worked my way from the back to,the front (on a tapered hair cut) the back processed longer than the front, and by time I made it to the front it was almost 16 minutes so it only stayed in the front for 1 to two minutes. The back was super lose almost straight and the front was like a ramen noodle curl... By day three the hair finally reverts to what it will truly be forever and the back turned super curly and the front was a slight variation of kindly/curly.

Finally a video that explained what I wanted. I've been dealing with my natural hair on it's own for almost a year after transitioning for a year prior and now that summer is coming along I can't deal with it anymore. I know exactly what I'm getting myself into and I don't really care if I'm not natural anymore I just want long, healthy manageable hair and as long as I take care of it I'll get what I want. Wow!!! This has got to be the best to be or not to be video for woman that are trying to go natural! I never knew what a texturizer was .... I have always used relaxers and at 49 I am just tired of the same hair! That being said I did a Brazilian blowout myself (ordered off eBay the REAL thing) and so far I LOVE IT! I can now where my hair curly OR straight.... Its opened up a new world for me. I did it 3 weeks ago and yesterday was the first time I decided to flat iron my hair.... It took a total of 30 minutes on 300 degrees Fahrenheit.... Before it would take at least and hour and a half on at least 400 degree's.... Do your research before ... I'm not talking about Keratin that you have to leave in for 72 hours totally straight.... Anyway, GREAT video! Totally appreciated!

I truly appreciate u for this video, and I'm glad I did my research first. Like u, my hair regimen is just starting to be nerve wrecking and I was looking for an easier way of dealing. For years I thought a texturizer was something that gave and/or loosened curls. I've never used one, but would've been sad to find out I was no longer natural or couldn't rock my afro. Thx again for warning those of us who leap before we look.
Great video and it was very informative! I too have used the "Just for Me" hair texturizer and found that the only difference from the "Just for Me" hair relaxer was the sunflower oil. I like to use the Affirm, Design Essentials, or ORS hair relaxers. I'll also add a 1/2 cup of coconut oil to the relaxer and to my hair (except for the new growth).
I truly enjoyed your sincerity and elaboration skills- you went straight to the point- not mincing words or giving any room for ambiguity- and that clarification was music to my ears- i had been almost 100% certain texturising or 'textlaxing' was totally different from relaxing- until this video; you most certainly clarified it in no small way, thank you! I'm truly amazed at the amount of information i glean from youtube- people give their time to put out DIY tips for others to learn. Thanks to people like you, going natural will not be such a horrendous and clueless journey as i have just decided to do so....... again, having gone natural in 2005 but unable to continue and maintain due to the unavailability of adequate information, knowledge and skill required to maintain and, not only on my part but on the part of so-called seasoned hair stylists in Nigeria who proved to be as clueless as i was and who ended up making me detest and write off the idea totally...... until my sudden discovery of youtube! Hi #TressedforSuccess, great video. Some very good points there! I'm from the UK and have been texturising for 10 years. Normally just once or twice a year at the most. I did a big chop in 2012 and had hair about 2inches long, but before I cut it, it was bra strap length and very healthy. I have 3a-3c hair naturally (its coarser in the middle of my head lol) and normally when I texturise it becomes 2c-3b. I generally can't tell where my regrowth ends and the textured hair begins, in the past I normally do my full head, the entire length of the hair because I wait so long in between texturisers. I'm mixed, and at times my hair is really smooth and others its quite wirey and coily - which is why I struggle to see the regrowth. One fear is that I will guess where I think the regrowth ends and misjudge it leading to a straight patch or an uneven curl pattern - which is why I just do the whole lot. It has been 1 year since my last texturiser and I'm keen to get another; as I feel it helps my hair grow as odd as that may sound. I wondered if you had any advice on how to go about re-texturising my hair. I've never had any problems in the past but I wondered if my texturiser will come out better if I do it a different way. I normally use Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Texturiser in Regular and have had no problems with it for 10 years - but do you know of a better version because I'm open to recommendations.

that's great info!..& yes, label reading is so important! i've been reading labels since i was a kid re: pre-made/commercial food, hair products, household products, etc... i've seen the texturizer products & like you, noticed how they were marketed. it's basically relaxer that is not as 'potent.' [sometimes it is as potent, depending on which one it is] but a lot of people & stylists use regular relaxer to 'text-lax' but just leave it on the hair for a shorter amount of time...i also noticed at some of the stores that there were several texturizers marketed to men specifically. even though it's the same thing as what is marketed to women. only the men's boxes are smaller. i guess b/c the tend to have shorter hair. & i guess that might make sense, the ones that have the men on the box b/c they probably would not feel comfortable buying something with pictures of ladies or little girls on it, lol!..but otherwise, yes, marketing can sometimes be really sneaky. :o/

At first I did feel guilty not being natural but being texturized has made my hair more manageable. I love it. Please keep posting, and let us know which brand of texturizer you choose next!
My old hairstylist is a liar, she told me that using a texturiser is just to help your hair stay straight for longer if I straightened it! Exactly what you heard from someone about maintaining my natural hair with a texturiser, she said I would still be 'natural' I was like erm yeah I'll think about it! Never got it done, after I realised that she just wanted me to texturise so that I had a reason to keep going to her, since I no longer relaxed my hair. I hate stylist who lie to their clients, just because they know that they're more knowledgeable than the client. sigh
MIMI232 mine just said the same thing and I said I'll think about it. she is pressuring me to texturize but doesn't it damage the hair on the long run? Like after 4-5 years?
+forever young Don't even think about it hun, just don't do it! I'm sure it does damage the hair as I was told it was like a weaker version of a perm. Although I'm not saying, those with texturisers cannot have lovely healthy hair, but it's just not for me. I met a girl in Shake Shack who served me, she said I had lovely hair & that she was natural but she was convinced by someone to texturise & now she regrets it & is transitioning!! Sigh....
Yes, some stylists that specialize in relaxed hair hate that a lot of women went natural. Money out of their pockets since some of them don't even bother to learn how to style or maintain natural hair.

Thats time taken away from my family and I was really sick of being a slave to my natural journey. I only texturize twice a year. Sometimes not even twice a year. This year was just one time. Oh wow! My mouth dropped to the floor watching this. My daughter had really healthy growing hair that was extremely thick. It was getting harder for me to manage but I didn't want to put a relaxer in it. I decided to do the Texure Softener. Her hair was beautiful afterwards but it just continued to break. Now I know why. Hasanii Heart You better tell them sista!!!!! I was wondering how is your own hair not natural hair? Despite it being permed or texturized, it's still your hair. People apply chemicals to their hair everyday to maintain it so if you ask me, no one is natural unless you're using pure oils.
I’m so glad somebody said it. People ask me if I’m going to go “natural “, NO! They look at me like I’m being a trader or trying to be white but I just have no interest in 3 hour detangling routine. My scalp is sensitive and that shit hurts. Besides I don’t consider them being natural anyway because they are still using chemicals in their hair, just not a perm. So I agree natural is scalp hair or if you solely use oils. Anything else is chemicals and not natural.
A little late to the party .... but I appreciate you. I feel like everyone gets on their soapbox about their hair types and their treatments choices and bashes the rest. Thank you for supporting anything women choose. Natural or chemically processed ... all love. Not many people will admit that texturized and relaxed use the same/similar products. Kudos!

Because i have thick hair, was always wet. You know what that mees? It stinks... I shamed to be with people at my work. After to have a relaxer a could small the shampoo i washed! I couldn't have said this better myself chica! This kit is a relaxer. Period. It's easy to be fooled by the packaging and branding that the marketing gurus at Just For Me came up with. After using this kit for 7 years, I just couldn't come to terms with how this product is marketed. Although, not illegal, its not cool to me that JFM seems to try very hard to pretend that this kit isn't a relaxer. It plays on your "mama trying-to-do betta" card and is tricky to naturals. I am texterized with just for me texterize softener she described in the video. It works great for me. My hair is still curly, just makes it easier to manage. I did use this product to go from relaxed to natural it worked great. Stopped using it for a few years and went back to get it more manageable. All hair is different and u have to read instructions and do a spot test!
Yes. It worked for me. I only ever used this Just for Me product. I put it in like a relaxer but I did not comb it at all. I used my fingers to lightly smooth the new growth, this way you don't loose the curl pattern you just loosen it. I let my new growth grow out quit a bit before I did it and u don't do it as often on new growth. I also got my ends clipped often to get rid of the relaxed hair.
Shannon Nicole sw I never had curly hair but my mom used that texturized even though I was not nqtural for 6 year s and it was breaking of a bit. For my graduation she.picked up a perm and I got scabs and it broke my hair. She did not know the difference between the two. But now I am 4 months natural and I cant wait to be 100 percent and I was natural as a baby till 6 and im 11

I had relaxed hair all my life and decided to go natural because my relaxed hair just wasn't working out [turns out it was never relaxed properly for my hair type so it was really damaged] :/ I have 4C hair and have less time [and money] since I'm a student in a demanding degree, and I have no desire to relax my hair bone straight. I did hear about texturizers still allowing one to be natural, I knew that couldn't be right because I have actually seen the ingredients on a relaxer... And now, I have PROOF * because there is nothing worse that being misinformed :) Thank you so much... I am about to get on this texturizer train... :) YaY
I put this product I my daughters hair many years ago, under the impression that I was just "softening'' her hair and it became very evident after time that there wasn't much difference in this product and a regular relaxer. It never actually made her bone straight but you can just tell that something just not right about her curl pattern. Its been about 4 years since using the product, and her hair continues to thrive, but every time I fix my mouth to say ''my baby hair natural'' to family and friends I feel Like a fraud, but hay you live and you learn I guess....... April Hendrix unless your daughter’s hair grows out of her scalp with that product (texturized) on it, it IS natural. If you haven’t texturized her hair in 4 years & you trim her ends ALL of her hair (except the tips) is natural.

You know, when you did the side by side comparison I couldn't help but laugh my head off. I was laughing because I have never really done a "texture softener" so I had not researched it at all and I was in shock. It is very sad because women with little girls with a heck of a lot of hair go that route thinking "it's not as bad for my little girl" and these companies are just wrong for that, call a spade a spade man! My mom took me to get a relaxer when I was about 11 because I had just too much hair on my head and she was getting up in age lol Thank goodness she didn't go that route and these poor Moms are stressing and wondering why is my baby's hair looking all damaged when it's not truely chemically altered? Someone needs to file a complaint man! Great video! =)

I am natural and have no desire to ever mess with my natural curl. However, I know not everyone can manage their natural texture; and, I meet so many people that wish they could do something with their hair but going natural isn't a reality to them. I'm so glad I found your channel and this video, because now I can help others make educated decisions on what chemicals they should use.

TressedforSuccess I used to be bias on whose channel I would watch, because I would only watch people with 100% natural hair, but now I'm open to women to all types of hair (non black or chemical/straight hair) as long as they stick to the healthy hair principles and know how to retain length to their hair. I have 3c/4a curls so I know exactly how you feel about the maintenance.

I was very skeptical on going back to my natural hair and I know that by putting relaxers in my hair is really bad, even though I try and stretch it as long as I can. longest was 6 months and that was super hard. But my hair greww sooo long. And I loved it! But I want a less damaging alternative. I don't think I am quite ready to go to natural hair yet. Soo I want to transition to a textuizer. Hopefully I can get my hair past 14in or a little bit past my shoulders. Anyway I'm blabbing thanks for this video continue making videos!!

Great post some really needed to hear that...but just for added info the order in which the ingredients are listed determines the amount of that substance being used even though the ingredients are the same, the chemical composition is not. Thats why they can market two different products from the same ingredients nd still remain in regulation standards.It is amarketing strategy they use to get us hooked to their product. Loved the video. I started "texlaxing" with this product to get more volume and I also noticed that there wasn't any difference with a relaxer in the ingredients. I might just buy my old favourite relaxer (ors-lye) and add the same amount of oil.

I have tex-lax hair. My preferred product after being natural for years optimum regular relaxer. It is about the timing to loosen the curl. The results for me is soft ringlets. I like the pretreatment cream. I usually tex-lax about once every four to six months, and too have come to grips with the fact that I am relaxed.
I already believe that the texture softener is the same as a relaxer but I believe adding the oil is what makes the difference. With a normal relaxer my hair is bone straight, but with the texture softener it starts off bone straight then it kind of wears off leaving my hair wavy. I love your videos, new subbie!
Yes, I believe you're right. I add the whole bottle of sunflower oil instead of half. It definitely leaves more texture, but a lot of ladies were thinking they weren't using a relaxer, but rather something healthier. It'd be the same as using any other relaxer and adding a bit of oil. It does the same for mine as you described :) it's really straight at first then the waves and curls spring back after a couple washes. Thanks for watching!

I used the Just for Me on both my son and daughters hair they both had long natural hair I was in love the their natural look I was just looking for something that could help me manage it got sick of the crying and it hurts... will their hair ever go back to the big natural look. .. I was reading the box it stated that the softener would last up to 12 week.... I thought their hair would go back like it was on 12 weeks or less but after viewing your video I believe ive been fooled....

WOOOW I feel hoodwinked!! I'm speechless right now. Not cool this entire time I'm thinking I'm using a texture softener but that's far from the truth. I was aware that JFM was a chemically altering but as you stated and showed in the ingredients it is a relaxer period. I see the similarities, but what are the differences? One can possibly get the hair bone-straight, while the other loosens the natural curl. Is it the procedure, or latter ingredients that differentiate the two (the results)? 💙
It is rather or not it is smoothed out when applied. NOT the chemical (the chemical is the SAME) In other words, one can get their hair bone straight with a box labeled 'Texturizer'. N one can get their hair only texturized with a box labeled 'relaxer'. Why? How? Because its all in how u manually manipulate the coils.. If u smooth it all the way or if if slowly comb it with a wide-tooth comb to loosen it up ( some dont use comb although the directions say to.) Hope yall get it. ☺💚

OMG AMEN! I'm so happy that somebodies seen what I've been saying for years. Bottom line its all chemicals no matter how they market it and commercialize it. I've been natural for 7 months and I've fallen victim in the begging of my journey in wanting a texturizer and seeing everybody with their loose bouncy curls and wanting the same but I'am glad I never did it. I've learned how to manage my 4b hair and have grown to love it more and more daily :) Loved the video tho I am def gonna be subscribing.

I am almost 2 months post my last relaxer and wish to start texturizing instead.. but is it safe to start using a texturizer instead of a relaxer the next time to process my hair?? Alright then Professor!! LOL! Love it!! I bought an actual relaxer after being natural almost 5 yrs. I left it on 10 minutes from start to finish. My hair is still curly, and when folks ask, I tell them I have a relaxer. They look at me like I am lying. Oh well! I still do rodded braid outs and it gives me lots of curls! I was done with the 3 hour detangling sessions. Now it takes 15-20 minutes..BAM....I am done detangling. I don't care about the natural title anymore, my hair is healthy....I'm good!
the relaxer didn't take to your hair since its been natural for so long . same thing happened to me when getting a relaxer after 2 years of being natural :)
I purposely bought a regular instead of super, although my hair is thick and coarse. I didn't want it straight, just more softer and manageable. Its growing fast too. I already have 2 inches of new growth and just got it retouched in May. May have to retouch on Sept instead of Oct.

Thanks, I have been texturizing since I moved from east coast to west coast/desert. My hair HATED the dry desert heat. I mean I woke up one morning did my normal wash n go using my old standby products and I could not comb my hair. My curl was crazy. I looked RAW. So I chopped it off, lightly texturized my hair and by lightly I mean I used Soft and Beautiful Botanical texturizer and only left it on for 3 min. I also changed styling products for more moisture. Mad that I can't call myself natural anymore but sometimes you gotta do what makes You happy. Besides it seems now we got a new war amongst African American women. It used to be light skinned vs dark skinned now its relax vs natural. Can't we just support each other as sisters.😄

I used a texturizer in my hair.. and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! When I finally took the weave out, cut my hair down to a tapered fro after being natural for 2 years ... i loved it. my hair was spiral, coily and kinky but definintely had a mind of its own. After getting frustrated because my hair would always be frizzy and although when the curls were defined they seemed to go all over the place, I couldnt take it anymore! No product worked... I finally used a texturizer less than a week ago. Edges forever laid... hair actually absorbs the product... i can feel my scalp... and i dont have to use as many products anymore which saves me alot of time and money. now i have the 'wash and go' style i always thought i would get once i cut my hair. i dont know how people ended up with straight hair. What I did was start from the back 'shortest part of my hair' and stopped at the front/crown area. i followed the instructions leaving the texturizer in for no more than 16 minutes for my specific hair type. what made it difficult is that because once you put the product in, it startss working immediately so you are on a time crunch. the front didnt process as long as the back, so both portions are curl, the back more looser than the front - INITIALLY! another thing about the texturizer is that it your curls come back SLOWLY! its a 3 day process (for me anyways) the back was longer, like one loose semi-pathetic curl :/ but by day 3 it was a a beautiful spiral. same with the front, the time i put it in for didnt change my curl pattern, just gave me more hangtime... elongated it and made it more defined! so i guess you can say i went from 4b in the back 4a everywhere else to 3b in the back and 3c everywhere else. I do say this, put the product in the area where you want it to be loosest FIRST! let me know if you have questions IG: lowkeyjane

Sure I used the just for me package.i left it in for around 16 minutes and instructed by the box for my hair texture.... I worked my way from the back to,the front (on a tapered hair cut) the back processed longer than the front, and by time I made it to the front it was almost 16 minutes so it only stayed in the front for 1 to two minutes. The back was super lose almost straight and the front was like a ramen noodle curl... By day three the hair finally reverts to what it will truly be forever and the back turned super curly and the front was a slight variation of kindly/curly.

Wow!!! This has got to be the best to be or not to be video for woman that are trying to go natural! I never knew what a texturizer was .... I have always used relaxers and at 49 I am just tired of the same hair! That being said I did a Brazilian blowout myself (ordered off eBay the REAL thing) and so far I LOVE IT! I can now where my hair curly OR straight.... Its opened up a new world for me. I did it 3 weeks ago and yesterday was the first time I decided to flat iron my hair.... It took a total of 30 minutes on 300 degrees Fahrenheit.... Before it would take at least and hour and a half on at least 400 degree's.... Do your research before ... I'm not talking about Keratin that you have to leave in for 72 hours totally straight.... Anyway, GREAT video! Totally appreciated!

I truly appreciate u for this video, and I'm glad I did my research first. Like u, my hair regimen is just starting to be nerve wrecking and I was looking for an easier way of dealing. For years I thought a texturizer was something that gave and/or loosened curls. I've never used one, but would've been sad to find out I was no longer natural or couldn't rock my afro. Thx again for warning those of us who leap before we look.
Great video and it was very informative! I too have used the "Just for Me" hair texturizer and found that the only difference from the "Just for Me" hair relaxer was the sunflower oil. I like to use the Affirm, Design Essentials, or ORS hair relaxers. I'll also add a 1/2 cup of coconut oil to the relaxer and to my hair (except for the new growth).
I truly enjoyed your sincerity and elaboration skills- you went straight to the point- not mincing words or giving any room for ambiguity- and that clarification was music to my ears- i had been almost 100% certain texturising or 'textlaxing' was totally different from relaxing- until this video; you most certainly clarified it in no small way, thank you!
I'm truly amazed at the amount of information i glean from youtube- people give their time to put out DIY tips for others to learn. I'm from the UK and have been texturising for 10 years. Normally just once or twice a year at the most. I did a big chop in 2012 and had hair about 2inches long, but before I cut it, it was bra strap length and very healthy. I have 3a-3c hair naturally (its coarser in the middle of my head lol) and normally when I texturise it becomes 2c-3b. I generally can't tell where my regrowth ends and the textured hair begins, in the past I normally do my full head, the entire length of the hair because I wait so long in between texturisers. I'm mixed, and at times my hair is really smooth and others its quite wirey and coily - which is why I struggle to see the regrowth. One fear is that I will guess where I think the regrowth ends and misjudge it leading to a straight patch or an uneven curl pattern - which is why I just do the whole lot. It has been 1 year since my last texturiser and I'm keen to get another; as I feel it helps my hair grow as odd as that may sound. I wondered if you had any advice on how to go about re-texturising my hair. I've never had any problems in the past but I wondered if my texturiser will come out better if I do it a different way. I normally use Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Texturiser in Regular and have had no problems with it for 10 years - but do you know of a better version because I'm open to recommendations.

that's great info!..& yes, label reading is so important! i've been reading labels since i was a kid re: pre-made/commercial food, hair products, household products, etc... i've seen the texturizer products & like you, noticed how they were marketed. it's basically relaxer that is not as 'potent.' [sometimes it is as potent, depending on which one it is] but a lot of people & stylists use regular relaxer to 'text-lax' but just leave it on the hair for a shorter amount of time...i also noticed at some of the stores that there were several texturizers marketed to men specifically. even though it's the same thing as what is marketed to women. only the men's boxes are smaller. i guess b/c the tend to have shorter hair. & i guess that might make sense, the ones that have the men on the box b/c they probably would not feel comfortable buying something with pictures of ladies or little girls on it, lol!..but otherwise, yes, marketing can sometimes be really sneaky. :o/

My old hairstylist is a liar, she told me that using a texturiser is just to help your hair stay straight for longer if I straightened it! Exactly what you heard from someone about maintaining my natural hair with a texturiser, she said I would still be 'natural' I was like erm yeah I'll think about it! Never got it done, after I realised that she just wanted me to texturise so that I had a reason to keep going to her, since I no longer relaxed my hair. I hate stylist who lie to their clients, just because they know that they're more knowledgeable than the client. sigh

Yes, some stylists that specialize in relaxed hair hate that a lot of women went natural. Money out of their pockets since some of them don't even bother to learn how to style or maintain natural hair.

Oh wow! My mouth dropped to the floor watching this. My daughter had really healthy growing hair that was extremely thick. It was getting harder for me to manage but I didn't want to put a relaxer in it. I decided to do the Texure Softener. Her hair was beautiful afterwards but it just continued to break. Now I know why. I’m so glad somebody said it. People ask me if I’m going to go “natural “, NO! They look at me like I’m being a trader or trying to be white but I just have no interest in 3 hour detangling routine. My scalp is sensitive and that shit hurts. Besides I don’t consider them being natural anyway because they are still using chemicals in their hair, just not a perm. So I agree natural is scalp hair or if you solely use oils. Anything else is chemicals and not natural.

Because i have thick hair, was always wet. You know what that mees? It stinks... I shamed to be with people at my work. After to have a relaxer a could small the shampoo i washed! I couldn't have said this better myself chica! This kit is a relaxer. Period. It's easy to be fooled by the packaging and branding that the marketing gurus at Just For Me came up with. After using this kit for 7 years, I just couldn't come to terms with how this product is marketed. Although, not illegal, its not cool to me that JFM seems to try very hard to pretend that this kit isn't a relaxer. It plays on your "mama trying-to-do betta" card and is tricky to naturals.

I am texterized with just for me texterize softener she described in the video. It works great for me. My hair is still curly, just makes it easier to manage. I did use this product to go from relaxed to natural it worked great. Stopped using it for a few years and went back to get it more manageable. All hair is different and u have to read instructions and do a spot test!

Yes. It worked for me. I only ever used this Just for Me product. I put it in like a relaxer but I did not comb it at all. I used my fingers to lightly smooth the new growth, this way you don't loose the curl pattern you just loosen it. I let my new growth grow out quit a bit before I did it and u don't do it as often on new growth. I also got my ends clipped often to get rid of the relaxed hair.

For my graduation she.picked up a perm and I got scabs and it broke my hair. She did not know the difference between the two. I put this product I my daughters hair many years ago, under the impression that I was just "softening'' her hair and it became very evident after time that there wasn't much difference in this product and a regular relaxer. It never actually made her bone straight but you can just tell that something just not right about her curl pattern. Its been about 4 years since using the product, and her hair continues to thrive, but every time I fix my mouth to say ''my baby hair natural'' to family and friends I feel Like a fraud, but hay you live and you learn I guess....... April Hendrix unless your daughter’s hair grows out of her scalp with that product (texturized) on it, it IS natural. If you haven’t texturized her hair in 4 years & you trim her ends ALL of her hair (except the tips) is natural.

You know, when you did the side by side comparison I couldn't help but laugh my head off. I was laughing because I have never really done a "texture softener" so I had not researched it at all and I was in shock. It is very sad because women with little girls with a heck of a lot of hair go that route thinking "it's not as bad for my little girl" and these companies are just wrong for that, call a spade a spade man! My mom took me to get a relaxer when I was about 11 because I had just too much hair on my head and she was getting up in age lol Thank goodness she didn't go that route and these poor Moms are stressing and wondering why is my baby's hair looking all damaged when it's not truely chemically altered? However, I know not everyone can manage their natural texture; and, I meet so many people that wish they could do something with their hair but going natural isn't a reality to them. I used to be bias on whose channel I would watch, because I would only watch people with 100% natural hair, but now I'm open to women to all types of hair (non black or chemical/straight hair) as long as they stick to the healthy hair principles and know how to retain length to their hair. I was very skeptical on going back to my natural hair and I know that by putting relaxers in my hair is really bad, even though I try and stretch it as long as I can. longest was 6 months and that was super hard. But my hair greww sooo long. And I loved it! But I want a less damaging alternative. I don't think I am quite ready to go to natural hair yet. Soo I want to transition to a textuizer. Hopefully I can get my hair past 14in or a little bit past my shoulders. Anyway I'm blabbing thanks for this video continue making videos!!

Loved the comparison. It gives the perfect example of how marketing is very deceptive just to get your money. So yeah, research can be time consuming but a definite must on a hair journey. New subbie and love the channel.
Great post some really needed to hear that...but just for added info the order in which the ingredients are listed determines the amount of that substance being used even though the ingredients are the same, the chemical composition is not. Thats why they can market two different products from the same ingredients nd still remain in regulation standards.It is amarketing strategy they use to get us hooked to their product. thanks i def came on here to see how it looks after and what its meant to do because i just want my hair to be a little easier to handle and to define my curls possibly but i didnt know it wont natrual anymore so forget that ig i deal with it as is.
Loved the video. I started "texlaxing" with this product to get more volume and I also noticed that there wasn't any difference with a relaxer in the ingredients. I might just buy my old favourite relaxer (ors-lye) and add the same amount of oil.
I'm currently a year into transitioning and now having my frustration moments with this hair of mine.....ugh I have recently thought about using texturizer but your video has been very helpful, I'll continue with the struggle for now. Thank You.

I have tex-lax hair. My preferred product after being natural for years optimum regular relaxer. It is about the timing to loosen the curl. The results for me is soft ringlets. I like the pretreatment cream. I usually tex-lax about once every four to six months, and too have come to grips with the fact that I am relaxed.
I already believe that the texture softener is the same as a relaxer but I believe adding the oil is what makes the difference. With a normal relaxer my hair is bone straight, but with the texture softener it starts off bone straight then it kind of wears off leaving my hair wavy. I love your videos, new subbie!
Yes, I believe you're right. I add the whole bottle of sunflower oil instead of half. It definitely leaves more texture, but a lot of ladies were thinking they weren't using a relaxer, but rather something healthier. It'd be the same as using any other relaxer and adding a bit of oil. It does the same for mine as you described :) it's really straight at first then the waves and curls spring back after a couple washes. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for explaining the difference between relaxer and texturizer TressedforSuccess. I was thinking about texturizing my hair b/c of what someone told me. However b/c it is a sister to relaxer I will not texturize. I have been natural for ummm at least 3 years. Don't want to chemical treat my hair. Well at least not now and only w/color thus far. ;-)

I used the Just for Me on both my son and daughters hair they both had long natural hair I was in love the their natural look I was just looking for something that could help me manage it got sick of the crying and it hurts... will their hair ever go back to the big natural look. .. I was reading the box it stated that the softener would last up to 12 week.... I thought their hair would go back like it was on 12 weeks or less but after viewing your video I believe ive been fooled....

WOOOW I feel hoodwinked!! I'm speechless right now. Not cool this entire time I'm thinking I'm using a texture softener but that's far from the truth. I was aware that JFM was a chemically altering but as you stated and showed in the ingredients it is a relaxer period. I feel upset with myself for not checking the ingredients on my own a looonnnggg time ago. Thank you for sharing. I guess I'm on the hunt for something new.

I see the similarities, but what are the differences? One can possibly get the hair bone-straight, while the other loosens the natural curl. Is it the procedure, or latter ingredients that differentiate the two (the results)? 💙
It is rather or not it is smoothed out when applied. NOT the chemical (the chemical is the SAME) In other words, one can get their hair bone straight with a box labeled 'Texturizer'. N one can get their hair only texturized with a box labeled 'relaxer'. Why? How? Because its all in how u manually manipulate the coils.. If u smooth it all the way or if if slowly comb it with a wide-tooth comb to loosen it up ( some dont use comb although the directions say to.) Hope yall get it. ☺💚

OMG AMEN! I'm so happy that somebodies seen what I've been saying for years. Bottom line its all chemicals no matter how they market it and commercialize it. I've been natural for 7 months and I've fallen victim in the begging of my journey in wanting a texturizer and seeing everybody with their loose bouncy curls and wanting the same but I'am glad I never did it. I've learned how to manage my 4b hair and have grown to love it more and more daily :) Loved the video tho I am def gonna be subscribing.

Hey! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I currently have relaxed hair.. I am almost 2 months post my last relaxer and wish to start texturizing instead.. but is it safe to start using a texturizer instead of a relaxer the next time to process my hair?? Also i researched somewhere that i can just add conditioner or oil to the relaxer to create a texturizer idk if that will give the same effect.. Let me know what you think. Thanks! xoxo
