You should definitely give monsters university a shot. Especially if neither of you have seen it. Its one of Pixar’s more underrated films in my opinion
It's really just a generic college movie but G-rated. Nothing to rave about honestly. I think the people who like it probably just grew up on it and weren't old enough to see an actual college movie yet.
Originally, the prologue scene in Finding Nemo was going to be cut into several snippets that we see throughout the movie to show Marlin's backstory of him losing Coral and most of his kids except for Nemo, but it became too hard to symphesize with him so that idea was abandoned (with exception of a reprisal of Marlin's memory of holding Nemo's egg when he fears that he lost Nemo after the fish net snapped). The idea was recycled into this movie and it made sense because of Dory's shortterm memory loss and her regaining those forgotten memories as the story progressed.
Monsters University is very much worth your time. I was the same way, didn't think much about it when it came out and didn't watch it until several years later. It's fantastic. Also, Finding Nemo is a 9.5 from me. Finding Dory, upon further rewatches over time, moved up from an 8.5 to a 9.4. It holds up so well and that damn septopus grew on me. Al Bundy perfectly cast as a grumpy octopus with a missing digit, way too intelligent for his own good. Pixar really knows how to give its projects lasting enjoyment.
I didn't even know Monsters Inc. had a sequel until many years ago when my dad rented it from a red box and set to watch it and I was like, "Huh, this isn'tmonsters inc" and I came to realize its a prequel. I think you guys would enjoy it. It's hilarious and I never get tired of the world that is Monsters Inc.
The scene where Dory is in the pipes and Bailey senses something that he thinks is a predetorial fish, is inspired by Alien when Captain Dallas goes though the air ducts and Lambert sees the Alien coming towards him and gets to him (which Signoruney Weaver, who played herself in this movie, played Ellen Ripley in, along with the Alien sequels).
AHCKSHULLY octopi's camouflage abilities are THAT good, not to mention they are extremely smart. They are known for making daring escapes not dissimilar from the ones in the movie.
A common issue with aquariums is octopi being able to find a way to escape, so their enclosures need to be octopus-proofed ahead of time and adapted-- and they have been known to identify patterns of when people come and go and know when to try to escape.
The touch pool was based on one in a similar place as the Marine Institute. The horrified creatures in the Touch Pool were based on the fact that the staff switches them for other batch to let one group rest up as they're traumatized by the kids constantly poke and grab them.
The great thing about early PIXAR is they chose films that worked most with the level of technology at the time! Plastic toys, shiny bugs, and then fish 🐟. Finding Nemo was the height of CGI at the time and that’s why it looks so good. Water simulation, fish scales. They chose the perfect subject matter! Great reaction guys 🙌🏾 🐠
The truck going crashing through the railing and into the sea is inspired by the tragic car accident that killed storyman and storyboard artist Joe Ranft, who voiced several Pixar characters including Jaques in Finding Nemo (who has been replaced by his brother Jerome in this movie).
This movie really means a lot to me because it’s very accurate in its depiction of anxiety cause that scene of Dory in the tank that’s what it feels like to me just having everything around you go quite and you feel like you can’t breathe or concentrate it’s very well done and I respect Pixar for portraying it so accurately. The message of this movie also speaks to me a lot, as someone who’s on the autism spectrum I to have felt different or that I don’t fit in even though friends and family have told me otherwise and do nothing but love and support me those feelings of inferiority still creep up on me in my mind so to see a protagonist such as Dory succeed in this movie in her own special way and not be mocked for it really speaks to me and probably a lot of other people with other various disabilities, just remember guys we just gotta keep swimming always and always. So thank you Pixar for making this great movie it’s one of my favorites.
Hello! This is the second time I've watched a vid from your channel (just finished watching your Finding Nemo vid) and I just wanted to say that I LOVE watching your reactions. You guys have such a homey vibe to your setup and you have the perfect balance of talking and staying silent during the movies. I'll definitely be watching more of your reactions! Thanks for doing what you do!
It's hard to see but you can see in the scene where the Institute Guide tells the visitors about Destiny, they are in fact the young children from Sunnyside Daycare from Toy Story 3 and you can see Riley from Inside Out behind them but she's difficult to spot.
I remember seeing Mosnters Univeristy in theaters. I was 13, and very much a lover of the first one. I was nervous going into it, but I came out having blast. It's funny, heartwarming, and intelligent. Im not a huge fan of Pixar sequels (aside from Inside 2 and Toy Story 3, those are peak Pixar) but Universty is definitely up there! Check it our for sure.
Love the channel, been watching since 2020. I really hope you guys still do Shrek 4, also if you are unaware, there will be a Shrek 5 that is coming out in 2026, and I’m very excited for it. There will also be a Donkey movie sometime after that
I'd love if you checked out the recent Puss in Boots movie. It's surprisingly deep for an animated kids movie and I know Jen would just love the villain.
I find it hilarious that fans, at one point or another, wanted a third film focusing on the sea lion Gerald and that all the fish and new characters would be "Finding Gerald". Definitely watch "Monsters University"! It's among some of the best prequels out there!
I have a soft spot for this movie, it really is a commentary of individuals who live with certain disabilities learning to navigate their world and learning how to cope, everything else in this movie is just all right, but that part always gets me, not even just Dory but several of the other characters as well.
Octopuses can survive for a while on land but not for too long as they will dry out. Being very intelligent creatures, octopuses will try to get into the water as soon as possible.
Loving getting to see both of you tackle these amazing animated projects! Hoping one day the animated DB franchise comes up, perhaps "Bardock, The Father of Goku" to introduce Jen. :)
In addition to reprising Crush, director Andrew Stanton voices the talkative clam. Since 13 years have passed between Finding Nemo and Dory, Alexander Gould have become too old to voice Nemo but he voices one of the truck drivers at the climax of the movie. Unfortunatley, it's not like that in all the dubs, I can confirm that swedish dub doesn't have the same Nemo actor voicing the truck driver (or any other character for that matter).
7:10 as a matter of fact, no. Octopuses, much like fish, can’t survive out of the water. They’re not designed to breathe the open air like whales, dolphins, seals/sea lions, or even humans.
Gerald is based on Gerald Samson, Maggie's rival in The Simpsons. The green toy pail that he has is a reference to Ponyo where Sosuke have a green toy pail which he uses to carry around fish Ponyo on land.
I grew up in Morry Bay California. We lived on Ocean front property but MB never had a big aquarium like that. This is probably Monterey Bay California 200+ miles Up the coast by San Francisco.
The emotional beats of this movie really hit. I think I prefer that this one feels more like a roadtrip than Finding Nemo. With that being said, it did get a little convoluted and over the top at times. Still an A tier pixar movie for me personally tho
Definitely check out Monster’s University when you get the chance! It has fantastic world building and adds great character growth for the main protagonists. In my opinion, it’s one of those rare instances where the added context of the follow up film elevates the original movie. Monster’s Inc. is brilliant on its own, but Monster’s University makes rewatching it an even better experience. 👏
I remember when I first saw finding Nemo in theaters, I had thought it would be funny if the sequel would be centered around dory. I even joked that it should be called finding Dory. on another note, yes you should watch monster's university. it helps to gain a better perspective on the world of the monsters.
Hope Ellen can allow herself to do one more Finding Nemo movie! #FindingDory2 #FindingNemo3 #Dory #Marlin #Nemo #FindingNemo #FindingDory #Disney #Pixar #FindingNemosequel
I saw this with my youngest sisters in theaters, one of whom hated “Finding Nemo” (my fault for watching it so much and her name rhymes with Dory) and thought she’d sleep through “Finding Dory” (she didn’t).
9:01 this strikes me as odd. Destiny’s a whale shark (which is a species of shark, and therefore a type of fish) yet she speaks whale. Also, they were feeding Destiny smaller fish which whale sharks can’t do because they don’t have teeth. They eat plankton and krill, similar to baleen whales (e.g. the blue whale from Finding Nemo).
Finding Dory was a good movie, but it didn't gave the same charm as the first movie, in my opinion. I really hope you guys plan to watch other Pixar movies like Pixar's Brave, Cars, and Monster's University.
Believe me, you DEFINITELY want to watch Monsters' University. I thought it was going to be a cash grab, but it's honestly in my Pixar top 10. The back half hits HARD!
Instead of just recycling the same clip from Finding Nemo where Dory and Marlin meet, that scene was reanimated, which is a good thing because of the advancements in the computer animation, character models (which are been improved from the first film with more polygons, more animation controls in the character's faces and muscles, subsurface scattering etc), animation tools, lightning tools and renders, you might notice suptly the differences between that scene and the rest of the movie if you just recycle the cut. The thing is that you couldn't tell it's an updated version of that scene unless you compare them side by side. It's similiar to the differences between Toy Story 2 and 3, that when you compare for example Woody between the movies how much more the details improved but you wouldn't notice if you watch the movies by themselves.
Monsters inc. is good and nostalgic. But I think I like Monsters university even more. Specially because of that one emotionall scene. And its funnier overall.
You should definitely give monsters university a shot. Especially if neither of you have seen it. Its one of Pixar’s more underrated films in my opinion
I support this comment.
100%!!!
meh

@--mr4yo tf you talking about, I had to sneak into the theater to see project x, your comment is irrelevant.
you really need to make a shirt with "who's to say?" and then under its Jen giving you the side eye and you giving a smirk lol.
He has one, he's wearing it in some previous videos, and you can see it in thumbnail for this video, also available on his merch page

Don’t worry Jenn I also cried when Dory found her parents & I’m not even a parent. The original VA of Nemo is the delivery boy from the truck

They managed to give a receding hairline... TO A FISH.
8:20 holden turns everything into a Spider-Man reference😂
I was thinking the same thing! 😂😂
Only thing that's missing is he didn't say "It's a defense mechanism."
The touch pool was based on one in a similar place as the Marine Institute. The horrified creatures in the Touch Pool were based on the fact that the staff switches them for other batch to let one group rest up as they're traumatized by the kids constantly poke and grab them.
"Some octopi can blend in to their environment" - Holden you literally sounded like Harry Osborne talking to MJ 🤣🤣
I think you mean Peter Parker talking to Harry Osborn
@@NewsofPEPeter says it to Harry and Harry says it to MJ
Exactly what I was thinking about!
The only thing he forgot to say was "It's a defense mechanism."

Now all thats left is the Cars franchise
A Cars 2 reaction without any extra context 🤣
the mid franchise
The first Cars movie is a classic
8:21 appreciate the Spider-Man reference Holden ❤😊
I was waiting for him to say “it’s a defense mechanism”

How the heck did they manage to give a fish that bald head look with the side hair ? 😂😂😂😂
Receding hairline, that's what it's called

JEN: YEAH I'M A PLANNER, YOU ARE NOT!
HOLDEN: I AM PLAN THINGS!
I enjoyed this movie more than the first one. I just found the losing your parents storyline more relatable than losing your kid. But both are great.
8:17 - Spiderman 1 quote but with octopi... Nice.
And he didn't say "It's a defense mechanism."

Monsters University is UNDERRATED!
I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M CRYING OVER FISH!
I hope you check out X-MEN '97.
Every single moment of the flashbacks of Dory when she was a baby with her parents before she lost them always makes me tear up.
I have a soft spot for this movie, it really is a commentary of individuals who live with certain disabilities learning to navigate their world and learning how to cope, everything else in this movie is just all right, but that part always gets me, not even just Dory but several of the other characters as well.
