I'm so happy seeing Matt back on the channel more and more. He's the embodiment of all my friends I hang out with who don't get any of the movies and/or games I play.
6:40 This film was based on a book but the story is very different, almost unrecognizable, but both are good stories. In the book, Hiccup can communicate in the language of dragons, Toothless is a small green dragon the size of a dog, the Vikings from the beginning already train dragons instead of being at war with them, and there are two giant dragons at the end. I guess you could say the story of the film is an original story.
@@xenorex481 Well, it depends on how completionism Holden and Matt are. Plus, I think sometimes they watch two movies per hang out, so doing 1 and 2 and them 3 and 4 the next time makes sense from a planning standpoint.
For the Stoic coming around part 32:02, if you watch after the dad says "You're not a Viking, you're not my son" there's a brief moment after he steps outside the hall where he seems to stumble back, almost light-headed, because the weight of what he's just said to his son finally hit him. He immediately regrets it but, as village chief, he has to focus on his people first. Great attention to detail in that scene, one of the many moments that reminds me how much I love animation as a medium. Also, I don't know if you guys will do the other HTTYD movies but please get Matt to watch at least the first Kung Fu Panda. I honestly can't predict if he'll like it or hate it 😂
One of my favorite scenes from the first films tbh reactors rarely give more notice to it but one I remember was the guy from "JV's galactic adventures"
I like seeing Matt's thoughts because you don't get honesty like this from a lot of reactors. It's a breath of fresh air. I can see why the characters wouldn't emotionally resonate with him. I'm curious if he'd like the sequels.
"I thought the thing was gonna talk" well funny thing, in the books Toothless is a little green dragon and Hiccup can speak Dragoneese so he can talk with and understand dragons.
This is one of my favorite movie trilogies. In my opinion, I think every movie is better than the one before, which I can't say about most movie series. I hope you and Matt continue this journey
Hopping on the "Great to see more Matt" train. Jen's great of course, but I love and relate to the way Matt dissects movies, the lines, and hidden lessons. Truly an entertaining watch!
I will never forget how good this movie looked on the huge IMAX screen here in NYC - 4 stories tall and animated perfectly as Toothless carried Hiccup over the water and through the rock formations.
32:05 Really good take from Matt. One of my favorite moments from the Christmas movie Elf is when Walter apologizes to Buddy BEFORE he learns that Buddy was telling the truth. That's what gave the apology its power. But I do think this movie gives Stoick enough small moments to keep him out of stereotype territory (his vulnerability with Gobber, his excitement when he talks to Hiccup after returning from the hunt, the moment of grief he feels after disowning Hiccup, etc.)
Matt and Jenn for that matter would actually love this new movie Wild Robot. There's a lot about growth and purpose in the movie, even bits of dark humor, and I think he'll really resonate with it. And Jenn will resonate with it... well you'll see...
I have disagreed with MANY of matts opinions, but i always love hearing them. I feel like a lot of reactors just hype up anything they watch to appeal to the fans even if they dont really like it, so its nice to have someone unapologetically voice their opinions for once.
32:50 Yeah, I wouldn't consider this trilogy to be known mainly for humor. I find that it's more about aw and awe lol. Awe as in wonderment and enjoyment of the story, music, animation, and world building. And aw for how cute Toothless is hahaha. For character building, I think that if you watch the trilogy, you'll see how far Hiccup goes. When watching animations, particularly these animations like from Dreamworks or Blue Sky or Disney, you have to really see it from a more simplistic point of view. Once you do, you'll enjoy it more lol (Edit: keep doing you though haha. i think it's great to see different takes on movies lol). Family movies/kid movies tend to have their messages right there in the open and on their sleeves. This is more of a comfort movie or a movie that's easy to put in the background. If you want animation that's deeper, I'd probably go the anime route. They have some REALLY good movies and shows.
For me this movie is about acceptance. Hiccup wants to be accepted by his dad and the village, and the dad needs to accept his son wants to go in a different direction.🥰
It is based on a book. They use the names and title but it's not the same story and there are other differences. They are 15. They turn 18 in the Race to the Edge series that takes place after Riders of Berk and Deffenders of Berk.
Even though this is probably my favourite animated movie, I love hearing the honest and valid criticisms of it, and yeah sometimes a story doesn’t resonate with people as much as others. The characters names could be due to it being based on a children’s book meant for a much younger audience than the movies too.
Watching Matt is like watching the old Life cereal commercial with Mikey. “He won’t like it, he hates everything.” Nice of you to give him product placement while he screws up your algorithm.
Loved this reaction, you and Matt reacting to these movies are very much like me and my friend where we dive into some inappropriate humour but have fun with it and just make the most of the movies. Awesome to see Matt on more and more though
I don’t mind Holden re-doing the HTTYD movies to see Matt’s reaction & his dark humor within the film. Yeah the series is based off the books & from what I heard toothless is a dragon that was never ridden
Before looking at the comments or the video I'll just say this. Usually I let it slide if Matt doesn't like something that is close to my heart and it's nice to see honesty from him but now Holden you have put me to thin ice here. This movie is so dear to me that I can't stand people who don't at least appreciate what a masterpiece it is. Fingers crossed and let's see..🤞
As a long time viewer of the channel, I was pleasantly surprised by the more mature tone of this reaction(maybe it was because of Matt, maybe because it was just two friends chilling while watching a movie, idk), but it felt really refreshing. Also, I highly recommend watching Skeleton Crew, the latest Star Wars series to come out on Disney+. It's a nice family show with really good ratings so far. It's even something for the kids to watch along with (although I know how protective you are of them in this channel so I understand not including them).
Matt thrives on being canceled so I'm gonna just do the opposite and accept the Weirdo as he is. Ha I am a fan of this whole trilogy as the "nitpicking" aspects you two talk about just doesn't resonate with me. These movies feel like a warm blanket to me that gives me comfort and I can't help but smile throughout them all; especially the score. I look forward to the reaction to the second film as I remember seeing it in the theater in 3D; the best 3D of any movie I ever saw. Happy New Year, Goofballs. 🖖
Honestly I feel like I agree with Matt, when I first watched this movie I loved it. After watching all the sequels and a decade later it’s not my favorite of the series but over not bad either. I hope you guys run through the series!
Ok I really didn't expect this one but now Im so looking forward for Matts reaction... and hopefully watches second movie too because IMHO its the best one from the franchise
I love this movie because I watched it at the right time, but I probably won't watch the live action adaptation. Love you guys, thanks for being here Matt!
Every so often Matt gives me a glimmer of hope that he's actually got a soul... Then goes and says this film has no heart and just ruins it all. 🤣 Keep up the good work guys.
My heart breaks for Matt, what kind of childhood did you have for this movie to not resonate more with him. Loving the Fast food videos of Matt’s though!
That Harry Potter ride at Universal is crazy. I got really bad motion sickness and had to be wheel chaired to the family room and stayed there for 2 hours until I could walk again.

If Matt is watching through DreamWorks movies, he NEEDS to watch the Kung Fu Panda films. 1 and 2 especially I think he’d really like.
If they do it. I hope they just don't bother with 4. At all.
@@xenorex481 Well, it depends on how completionism Holden and Matt are. Plus, I think sometimes they watch two movies per hang out, so doing 1 and 2 and them 3 and 4 the next time makes sense from a planning standpoint.
Holden talking about Matt getting canceled meanwhile on a live he forced Matt to twerk😂
I’ve been forced to do this for years now. Help me😂

How To Train Your Dragon is perfect. The music is out of this world and these movies are fun and so memorable. Been watching since I was little.
19:01 I choked and cried laughing when I heard the beep
This is one of those rare instances where the sequels are as good or even better than the first movie. One of my favourites for sure!

Holden talking about Matt bein canceled meanwhile Holden making sexual jokes constantly when watching Avatar or Stranger Things.

Matt described himself accurately. I do appreciate his initial gut reactions. Very genuine and occasional sideways opinion.
Haha well put. And agreed.
18:45 yep. Definitely didn’t have “Matt sings a Disney song” on my bingo card for this video.

Need the full trilogy I really hope they watch the next 2
I think alot of the humor comes from Toothless's cat-like mannerisms and expressions and Hiccup's awkwardness.
Matt's reaction from Hiccups voice, Jay Bercchel, was like I know that guy, as he totally was thinking about the hockey movie Goon
I definitely would like to see Matt check out the second movie. There is a bit more heart in there.
This put a smile on my face, thank you Holden and Matt :)
11:23 surprised no one has caught or mentioned that they used a pic of Tj Miller and called him Jonah Hill
Maybe they got the characters of Snotlout(Jonah Hill) and Tuffnut(TG Miller) mixed up when searching it up
Maybe they're keeping the joke going
I think it's a joke and no one picked it up. Not sure.
I always loved HTTYD at 100% CGI, it will be so cool to see it when it is 95% CGI!!!
