    One of my all-time favorites, and Guy Ritchie's best film in my opinion. Cast is absolutely steller, and Ritchie is a master at non-sequential storytelling.

      I really loved the editing, how much of a role does Ritchie play in that?

    • @BajaBCat
      @BajaBCat 2 года назад +7

      @@jenmurrayxo Ritchie cuts his own films and his director "trademarks" include fast, intense action scenes sandwiched between normal, slower paced scenes (like the initial heist at the beginning of Snatch), quick jump-cut scenes (such as the scenes where the film jump cuts to character exposition sequences before returning to the story), and circular, non-sequential, interconnected plots where the film feels like it's multiple, separate stories and the audience sees the "big picture" towards the end.
      In my opinion Ritchie is very much an auteur with a very distinctive filmmaking and editing style. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is another one of his great films.

He confessed to 49 murders and it is said that he fed his victims to his pigs (though it is also speculated that he may have ground up the meat, mixed it with pork, and sold it). South West here! It's very similar to a lot of rural accents throughout Munster. And very true to the Irish Traveller accent. I can understand about 70% of what he says. Newfoundland is very interesting, some of the accents, slang and sayings are the same as we have here. I've seen films/shows set there with Newfie actors and I've had to double take or google they weren't Irish or playing someone mean't to be Irish.

      @@jenmurrayxo There are a lot of cultural similarities between Newfoundland and Ireland; we even have many of the same traditional songs. I remember going drinking with a bunch of Newfies who were over here for work, years back, and they really enjoyed that aspect of it. The really funny thing is that they were complaining so much of the cold. Ireland is further north than Newf but typically gets milder weather; it does get a very damp cold rather than a dry cold though.

    I would recommend "Keen Eddie". A tv show that was cancelled far too early; it's probably not popular enough to really grow your channel in a meaningful way, but it's just *so good*. I bring it up because it definitely has this Guy Ritchie style, although it wasn't directed by him.
    The titular Eddie is a New York detective sent to London to wrap up a drug case; he ends up staying. There's nothing really special or unique about the premise, but it's just really well-done: excellent, sharp, witty writing with interesting cases, the chemistry between Eddie and his flatmate Fiona (Sienna Miller) is incredible. Really strong pilot and 2nd episode, so I think you'd be able to decide very early on how you feel about it (I mean... it's 13 episodes, so it's not like it's a big time investment either way).

    After his first movie 'Lock Stock & Two Smoking barrels' Guy Ritchie got a lot of complaints from American critics that they couldn't understand the cockney accents and rhyming slang.
    In response he thought it would be funny to get an American actor speaking in a way that the cockney characters (and everyone else) couldn't understand. Kudos to Brad Pitt he nails the Irish gypsy cant.

    In earlier times, urine (piss) was the basis of many chemicals and used for production of salt peter for black powder (gun powder).
    The poor would collect urine in a ‘piss pot’ from others, around pubs etc. They would then sell the urine. They were ‘piss poor’. Even worse were those who were so poor they ‘didn’t have a pot to piss in’.
    Presumably ‘taking the piss’ was stealing the urine that another had collected. Now means to ridicule.

    I never understood why they didn't just use Mickey to win, instead of throwing the fight. Mickey is an unknown fighter, and he's much smaller than most. The odds would be greatly against him, which means the take, should you bet on him, would be huge.

    I loved this reaction. If you are down with checking out more Guy Ritchie Movies, You should give "Lucky Number Slevin" a shot. It's definitely one of my favorite movies and done in this same type of style as well. This movie was fantastic as well. I've been meaning to watch this for a while but never got around to it. Just watched the full thing just before finding your reaction for it. On that note... Thanks for being the first reaction to this movie I've ever watched. :)
