Goosebumps every time Perry shouts 1 2 3 4 and they drop into that steel drum groove. I also love how Flea is 100% driving this song because he's a magician on the bass.
The first date I had with a girl named Jane was a Jane's Addiction concert in 1991. She was my muse and the one true love of my life. This song takes me back to that night, dancing with her in my arms, it was electric, surreal and etherial. Needless to say some time later we parted ways, the impulsivity of youth. I never found another love like what I had with her. Years later when my wife left, I looked her up only to find she passed at 35. She was taken much too soon. She had it all brains, a beauty like few possess and a gentle soul. Here's to you Jane! I hope when I cross into eternity we will meet again but until that day comes you will always be in my heart and memory. The greatest first date ever with the greatest girl ever.
That is so beautiful. I am in that boat. The love of my life I lost and hopefully we will reunite unfortunately it will never happen. This songs grabs me so deeply and I will always remember her.

We did not have phones back then. Certainly not mobile phones. At that point in time it was only seriously rich people that even had mobile phones. The rest of us used pagers....know what a pager is?
Perry + Dave + Flea and the Jamaican drummer = synergy that is rarely contained into one venue. Who ever was lucky enough to have been here should never count themselves out as unlucky in life. What a display of musical organism.

I was in the crowd at this concert at Hammerstein Ballroom and it was ABSOLUTELY F@cking incredible. I will never forget it. Every Jane’s Addiction show was epic. Fan of the band since their beginning. Seen them live 20 times over the years. 🖤🎈🎉😍
I’m so jealous, that’s amazing, seeing a band in person let’s you connect with the music in a way a record never could, often with music you could never appreciate the same way!
Being born in 1970, I had my teen years in the 80s and my 20s in the 90s. So I had the best of both worlds. I could go out in the 90s without my mother being on my case all the time.
Ive been a frontman in bands my whole life . I’m old now but If I could trade all the moments I had for one it would be this ! The naturalness of this moment , every band member was enjoying themselves to the fullest . This is priceless and I know they all point back to this as a defining moment !
Bands that are known as " one hit wonder's" get a bad rap sometimes, but I'd love to have just one song, if that's all I had, so be it, but to be in my car with someone who doesn't know much about me, and to have that one song come on the radio, and be able to say, " that's me" that my song, I was in a band in the mid 80's and this was are one hit. I just think anything like that, or maybe just a short scene in a movie, that would be awesome! just a fantasy I think about on occasion

@@MsElleDluv That was catching my eye a lot this time I watched this! Weird you brought that up now lol! I was a teenager throughout most of the 90's so I saw some amazing shows at the perfect age to see them... I would have loved to be at this one though. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen from any band.
It is nice to say - I was actually in that mix on the floor of Hammerstein - they played there Oct. 30th as well. “The Cure” was also Downtown at Irving Plaza that night. Two smaller venues with great acts. I remember this moment - the walk thru the crowd at the beginning - From wherever I was on the floor - I couldn’t see they were heading to that equipment enclave. It was an island 🏝️ where bands really didn’t play. But it was set up for that this night. They were then among us. It was an awesome 😎 moment.
I remember this time and concerts like this. I was so young!''90's were awesome! I always knew it was a special time stamp in history. If you weren't there at a certain age, you missed it bro. It was magical! Never will happen again!😎🤙🤘
Born in 65, I feel for people now who will never know a real concert where everyone was as one, listening and singing and just enjoying life in real time together before cell phones and social media. You missed out and I'm sorry.
This song has been in my head for a few days now, as it's coming up on the anniversary of my aunt's death from decades of drug abuse. If you are struggling with addiction or struggling to help a loved one get clean, I send good vibes your way, because picking up the pieces after losing someone to addiction sucks.
Thank you for sharing your heart break 💞 I listen to Jane Ssys to understand my Daughter, I listen to “She talks to Angels” as my POV. As I help raise 2 young children and 1 on the way to understand to try to love 💕 the person and cry for the “Jane” of it all consuming. Love to all Jane’s and Angels
I’m coming out a bad addiction I was selling as well. I’m doing fine on my methadone n 15 mg Valium a day still an addict but it’s better than taking H every day!
Sadly I too am living with the fall out of losing my only daughter to drugs. She was 24 and her name was Savannah Jane. Oh how I miss her beautiful soul 💜. I will never recover.
I love how when Dave starts playing, some of the more dedicated fans start cheering. But it's not until the steel drums kick in that everyone realizes they're playing Jane Says.
This is life...at human scale, time, and emotion. It also shows empathy and compassion to the highest potential of humans, yet another literal meaning of this song is about substance misuse. A powerful song.
That was life! We lived it in the moment without worrying about reliving it and getting other people's approval for how we lived it. What other people thought about us in that moment was none of our business! 💪😁🙏😎

One thing I've learned in this life being a music lover as it were. Is that music transcends age and space. These guys love what they do. They were having fun and it wouldn't make any difference if this performance was in 1969 or 2001. They did an awesome job. Bravo

Jane says was the first song I ever heard by Janes Addiction. As I listened I thought to myself, this is the music I’ve been waiting for my whole life. As a matter of fact I was at this very show. There is nothing in the world quite like a Grateful Dead, but I’ve never felt freer then, a janes addiction concert, They hold your key and turn your note, I love them I mean it’s so so serious, like bits of puzzle fitting each other. And that makes me 1%
Amazing how special a concert can be when you’re a part of the moment instead of a part of the film crew broadcasting the whole thing on your cell phone. This show has so much energy, incredible.
I was at an RHCP concert the other day and I just can't imagine how people watching through their phones the whole time are enjoying it. To each their own I suppose.
Jane's Addiction is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins. They are known for blending alternative rock, punk, and metal influences into their music, and for their dynamic live performances. "Jane Says" is a song by Jane's Addiction, released on their 1987 self-titled debut album. The song is a poignant acoustic ballad, featuring lyrics about a woman named Jane who is struggling with drug addiction and homelessness. Despite the serious subject matter, the song has a catchy melody and has become one of the band's most popular and enduring songs. It has been covered by numerous artists and has been featured in films and TV shows.
Saw James Addiction twice in the early 90s. Never felt energy flow through the crowd like that at any show I've been to. One of the greatest shows I ever went to. You kidds today would have loved this era of music. Damn I really miss it.
I worked a bar called Video Bar in Deep Ellum( door girl) in Dallas in the early 90's after the first Lollapolusa we had an after party for all the bands I actually got to sit and drink with these guys as well as all the other bands. It was magical 😁

Everything about this if you were there in person must have been chillingly cool and so damn surreal. Drugs or no drugs u were f’ing loving u were there and alive. Everyone is in the moment. No phones to ruin anything...
Nah, man, shit like this you barely even recognize at the time. I mean, it seems like the cutting edge, yet somehow or another, it's just another Thursday. I'm 42 and still sorting through (and recontextualizing) the wreckage of my 20's.
I remember JA with the tiki setup. It swayed around so much I thought it could fall! Great show. Flea filled on bass in a red toga. Vibrant atmosphere.
Except the one you saw live, says every Jane fan! Mine was Coachella when they actually moved the stage during a break we thought show was over then lights up Dave and Perry about 6-8 feet from us okay maybe 20 but we went from the schmucks tripping on shrooms in the back to front row seats when the ecstasy kicked in! Best version of been caught stealing for sure but this open is epic thanks for bringing to my attention. A critical band in my medical evolution - still love the lyrics
Dude not many videos of live show can convey the vibe and energy properly but this made me feel transported to the moment. This shit really tied my day together.
I was introduced to Jane's my last year in highschool and fell in love. I saw them my first time at Lollapalooza in 1991. Consistantly moved by their music to this day anytime I hear it.
it was a great time. Music was wild and not run thru a computer, the crowds were cool, all there for a fun time. and this will be with us for a long time past the current junk out there.
I was in college then. It was a difficult time in my life. Uncertainty and anxiety. Might be even worse now to be young teen or 20s. Not too worried about it now. I've got land and tools and guns. Trump is finally going down and government corruption will finally be going away.
But, you are diggin' this stuff, now, here, who knows, you might have ended up not liking stuff like this ; but you are here, with the rest of us , enjoying this gift
1st Lollapalooza, Raleigh/Durham N.C.,I didn't know what to expect, my European brothers took me, when this man started his art, I was mind fcuked! I had been to Live Aid in the 80's but man this festival was unbelievable!

Saw them in 1986 in Fullerton, they opened up for my favorite band at the time... Agent Orange. I remember saying how freaky good Jane's Addiction was that night.

The 90's was the most amazing time for Live music.
This is literally my first RUclips comment. I was there. Sick concert
+James Kane How enchanting was it? It looks fucking amazing.
+James Kane those were the days....sex drugs and janes addiction.... :)
Freaking annoying Band, especially that whistle.
I'm glad everything has an end.
Bhingo Lacson BINGO LANCSON
+Bhingo Lacson wow..... you should go away.....
Nobody in the crowd holding up their effing smartphones to record this.. Everyone was actually satisfied to experience the moment.
Also no one here knew what a smart phone was .
There were no smart phones then bro...
Fucking alive
thankfully SOMEONE recorded it though huh?
We did not have phones back then. Certainly not mobile phones. At that point in time it was only seriously rich people that even had mobile phones. The rest of us used pagers....know what a pager is?
Perry + Dave + Flea and the Jamaican drummer = synergy that is rarely contained into one venue. Who ever was lucky enough to have been here should never count themselves out as unlucky in life. What a display of musical organism.

If anybody wants to know what the 90's were like.... It's was this. And it was fucking awesome!
Richard Ensey progressive b4 , W , Obama and Trump ... we were ok. That’s why politics is garbage . The 80s were even better
PhuryousOne the 90’s were a shit load better than this man. You’re forgetting propper bands. KoRn. Slipknot. Mudvayne etc etc. Or stone roses. Inspiral carpets. Jesus Jones.
The '80s were better!
Richard Ensey ...Oh, yes...My Dad would bave been 81, now, had said the same and its the truth. Happy New Years and a safe and healthy one to you n yours!🦅🕊😁🤘

I was the it the OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM IN LOS ANGELAS
I can see what you mean this is an amazing crowd loving that band Jane's addiction
What year was that 🎵 concert?
What year was this concert 🎵?
Glad i was a teenager in the 90s!!
Same here... best times...
Definitely! Me too.
Really man? Me not so much. I guess Aeon Flux and Ren and Stimpy were cool though
Being born in 1970, I had my teen years in the 80s and my 20s in the 90s. So I had the best of both worlds. I could go out in the 90s without my mother being on my case all the time.
Me too I was glad I was 90s had a badass time
Ive been a frontman in bands my whole life . I’m old now but If I could trade all the moments I had for one it would be this ! The naturalness of this moment , every band member was enjoying themselves to the fullest . This is priceless and I know they all point back to this as a defining moment !
As I’ve said before…I’m a new fan. But I’m wondering why this song has had such an effect on me. I’m 73 and I absolutely love everything about it.

Flea's bass playing from 3:30 to 04:20 is sublime, actually it is the whole way
pure bliss guy, i keep replaying that part over and over. flea drops god damn low end like no other
Yep, and the kettle drums!
Profound

It's the steel pan drum for me...!!!!
Flea was jammin, that walkin base line is sick as fuck....
Oh hell yeah!! Bro, flea was insane on that bass!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Oh yea caught that

I come back to this often. Such a magical performance.

Best intro ever ❤️
The emotion in Perry's voice is amazing. I love how he says she's never been in love with this naive longing in his voice their. Amazing
This video is one of my favorite things. Have watched it too many times to count. Flea and Dave are feeling it. Grooving along.
Always blows my mind. No matter how many times I listen to it.

It is nice to say - I was actually in that mix on the floor of Hammerstein - they played there Oct. 30th as well. “The Cure” was also Downtown at Irving Plaza that night. Two smaller venues with great acts.
I remember this moment - the walk thru the crowd at the beginning -
From wherever I was on the floor - I couldn’t see they were heading to that equipment enclave. It was an island 🏝️ where bands really didn’t play. But it was set up for that this night. They were then among us. It was an awesome 😎 moment.
Probably watched this video 10 times, wish I had a time machine. Concert looks nothing shy of magical.
I know a guy if your interested... lmk
I remember this time and concerts like this. I was so young!''90's were awesome! I always knew it was a special time stamp in history. If you weren't there at a certain age, you missed it bro. It was magical! Never will happen again!😎🤙🤘
that day was glorious. I'd love to talk to people who where there.
It was every bit as magical as it looks and sounds.
@@stemblackswan3901I wish so much that this could be true.
Born in 65, I feel for people now who will never know a real concert where everyone was as one, listening and singing and just enjoying life in real time together before cell phones and social media. You missed out and I'm sorry.

Those concerts are still alive today. Might take some finding though.
That's also my birth year. I agree...

Still love this song. Love Jane's Addiction. Memories of my youth, when things were simple and good. ❤️

...and then we had 2021
And now 2022 with disease and war. Lovely
Thanks
I’m coming out a bad addiction I was selling as well. I’m doing fine on my methadone n 15 mg Valium a day still an addict but it’s better than taking H every day!

I love how when Dave starts playing, some of the more dedicated fans start cheering. But it's not until the steel drums kick in that everyone realizes they're playing Jane Says.

Sacred experience! Love the 90s. What a time to be a younger person.
How good was it! Whole crowd in the moment without phones hahahahahah
This is life...at human scale, time, and emotion. It also shows empathy and compassion to the highest potential of humans, yet another literal meaning of this song is about substance misuse. A powerful song.

One thing I've learned in this life being a music lover as it were. Is that music transcends age and space. These guys love what they do. They were having fun and it wouldn't make any difference if this performance was in 1969 or 2001. They did an awesome job. Bravo
Their beauty shines radiates heals all...creativity they live the real life..true artists that created a culture...

Hell Yeah , good music !
One of the most underrated songs of (literally) all time. Thank goodness today’s kids have much better taste than earlier generations!
I don't think better taste are covers and bad bunny
How does a complement of being under rated go to today's generation to insult that today's generation has better taste 🤔? I think you meant overrated.
100% agree with this statement completely underestimated song ever, huge talent ❤
When you're 57 years old you're as long as your own house dancing to this music and content you have learned how to live on your own
What I'd give to wake up and it be the 90s again.
1990's Del Mar Fairgrounds: Red Hot chili peppers, Nirvana and Janes Addiction. Was a great show!
Wow! Lucky! Nirvana was supposed to do Lollapalooza in NYC and then he died. I still went, but I was so bummed, not only that he died, but that I was finally going to see them live.
I was there. Great time

And that makes me 1%
I hear you
Love your comment jimcarroll
Magic just magic so glad I lived through the 80s and 90s ❤
As weird as the 90's were, I miss them. I wish I could go back.
Could listen to this on repeat for the rest of time. Reminds me of student beach parties in the mid 90s
I saw them twice in the 90’s and it was a trip. Would have killed someone to get to this show....
It was EPIC
This looks electric. Such a mystic vibe. Wish I could have experienced it.
Flea + Dave Navarro = Pure Magic. I wish they never parted.
This is literally our favorite RUclips video. The authenticity about it. ❤❤
Thanks for the info…
Saw James Addiction twice in the early 90s. Never felt energy flow through the crowd like that at any show I've been to. One of the greatest shows I ever went to. You kidds today would have loved this era of music. Damn I really miss it.

Uh, Rob I think maybe you saw a cover band... 🤣
I worked a bar called Video Bar in Deep Ellum( door girl) in Dallas in the early 90's after the first Lollapolusa we had an after party for all the bands I actually got to sit and drink with these guys as well as all the other bands. It was magical 😁

I was there, and you are right, although I was tripping. ;D
I was there, it was as cool as you think it was.
best version of janes says hands down.
William Geoghegan its no longer a sad song, which is a sad song, its just a celebration of the gift of Perry
Totally agree this is the perfect version....never get tired of this song!
John Galt and Dave Navarro love his way of telling the story to Perry’s words
Wish it were.
SHE CANT HIT.......I've got goosebumps
I got to see Jane's Addiction in 2011 & it was amazing!! Glad that I can say I saw them live. 💜
Dude not many videos of live show can convey the vibe and energy properly but this made me feel transported to the moment. This shit really tied my day together.
Starting my morning watching Perry's Hips & Dave rockin that skirt !
That 12 string Navarro is rockin thou..

I was introduced to Jane's my last year in highschool and fell in love. I saw them my first time at Lollapalooza in 1991. Consistantly moved by their music to this day anytime I hear it.
I was 4 days old. Wish I grew up in this time. Drives me nuts sometimes.
I was 20 during this concert if I had a time machine I would take us all back
String theory.
it was a great time.
STILL the best live performance Ive ever seen - Jane's Addiction @ the 1st Lollapalooza in Dallas.
