Thank you so very much for asking. I mean that.
The addition of steel drums was a stroke of genius when they wrote this. You can't overstate how much they add to it. They make the song perfect.
Pretty common in the 80s.
@@gregamania1327 Bullshit. I was 15 in 1980, and rock songs with steel drums in them was not "pretty common". If so, name 10 from reasonably-known rock bands.

there is a version of this song with wicked steel drums as a intro. My google fu has failed me in finding it. I am so sad
It's actually my favorite cover of the song and the steel drums nake it so much better.
Today’s music can’t hold a candle to this.🤔
They're not even trying.
Doesn't matter how old you are, what you look like, or what your musical preferences are. When its good, you feel that shit, period. This is one of those songs.
Quite right mate. It IS one of those songs. Saw this lot for the first time back in the 80's. They're still fucking wonderful 😀
Sadly, I'm one of those people who doesn't get it. Just hearing those two chords over and over doesn't do it for me. Honestly, I wish I understood the hype.
@@gummiewormproduction I think it's the total lack of pretense and the sense that the guys on stage are just grooving and into what they're doing, despite the song being decades old

Wow Perry Farrels voice is sounding amazing, smooth as silk, the dude's aging like a fine wine
This video is ten years old, and they tune down a half step because he cant hit the high notes anymore.
@@turdferguson3855 a lot of artist play half step down from their studio recording so they don’t destroy their voice especially when doing live shows or multiple songs.. I don’t really care for this guys vocals but I’d bet money he can still sing the studio version.
@@phxntomplanet wrong, only singers who use autotune. Perry hasn't been able to sing like the originals in twenty years. He didn't need to back in the 80's and 90's.
@@turdferguson3855 yeah it is easy to overlook the fact that this video is 10 years old, a quick Google search shows he certainly isn't looking as fresh as this now and I'm guessing that goes for his singing voice as well.

Kids… Pay attention. This is a flawless masterpiece. 2023
I feel privileged that I get this song...been with it since the beginning and I can appreciate it. The kids today, sadly, the majority, so 51 percent, not only don't care, but they don't get it. Most won't listen to anything played by real instruments w/o the autotune sound. It's over after my generation dies. I haven't heard any great guitar rock since Silversun Pickups, or maybe GVF. Have you? The Joy Formidable? Florence +The Machine? Help me out here. Seems like guitars, regrettably, are fading...plus, not to mention it takes hard work to play one.

This is one of the best and most important songs ever written. A lot of people don’t necessarily realize how sad and deep this song is, it paints a very accurate image of someone suffering with severe drug addiction
There’s a great interview with Perry by Adam Reader on his Professor of Rock RUclips channel detailing this song.
A resounding No! I mean hell No!! Are you drugged out? One of the most important songs written?? 😂😂😂
@@ds2413I mean maybe to him. When someone writes something on the Internet it's their opinion. Maybe it holds an important meaning to him / her because they went to a similar substance use disorder. My opinion-
It is a very important song. Janes was the first alt rock band and this song was written in 1988 and the rock bands that were popular in the 90s Those songs sound like Jane says. Compare this song to Guns N’ Roses which is what was popular at that time if Janes addiction didn’t break up they would’ve been bigger and don’t really get their credit.

Think about your favorite movies - you seen them all so many times that you practically have them memorized. Yet when you come across one of them on a cable channel, you are watch it again and love every minute. Songs like this are basically the equivalent of that.
They all look so much healthier and sober and his voice has gotten so much better.
I always loved how like the guitar and drums switched roles. The percussion in this song is like the melody, while the two chords being played are basically like a back beat.

This brings back to college freshman year. 1988-89. My roommate would play this over and over.
I've watched this hundreds of times. I love that Perry is not dominating the video/song, just blending in. Love when Dave crosses his legs, all casual and all. Awesome.
Matt, I play this everyday, everyday!! With everything going on with the Coronavirus here in Nor Cal this is the tune to go happy.

I always loved this song. Go outside and listen to the birds. Look at the trees. No labels. No judgement. Stay present. Alert. Open. Align with nature. The Universe. Source Energy. Look at the moon and say "That's me." All people, animals, plants, rocks and the chair your sitting on are all atoms vibrating at different speeds. We are not part of the Universe. We ARE the Universe. We help ourselves by helping others. Practice kindness, patience, compassion and gratitude. The higher you. The deeper you that goes beyond name and form.
Lovely message good sir/ma'am.
All for ONE. ONE for all
I really like how you worded this.
No1 has ever explained to me what the u-n-I-verse actually is. So I can never claim to b a part of it.
That's just guessing and acceptance of other people's mindsets.
I know there r creatures who know exactly what the universe is and have yet to show me any proof of its actual operations. Just like reality god Lucifer or any other story line. I like mystery of faith and nice surprises but in the reality I've been in.... It kinda doesn't seem to be fare. Its unfortunate because I've had to basically sit on the sidelines and suffer another's version of reality. I do love bird's tree's nature and when I'm not judging something I feel much better. I was trained to judge from an early age and duality was put into my mindset pathways. Anywho
Thanks for the positive message.

It triggered another memory from all of the insane dreams I had last night. A man mentioned that I need b more careful with my thoughts. Its like being a child in an adult body and recognizing that I don't want to behave in some of the ways I've been behaving. I don't like violence and have not been able to watch violent television programs for about 5yrs moew. I'm interested in seeing if I progress in my own development. It's 1 day at a time and catching myself when I'm reactive because I have internalized anger from some unfortunate events I'm trying to process and let go of. But you can't fake it. It really takes a true mmmmmm forgiveness. Looping through the same anger wow. Its taken over a yr of almost complete solitude to calm the negative focus and momentum. I had no idea that I could become that angry. It's not a emotion I like to Express much yet I was hyper focused on problems and the realization that I don't understand the inner workings of my apparatus. That I've relied on outside sources to tell me what I need to b healthy and finding contradictions in that data. I'm most grateful to have the opportunity to retrain my own mind pathways. About 10yrs ago i had forces come into the reality and uproot me from my life i was living. Its been extremely challenging but i think there is reason for all of it and to help me develop in areas of my interest. I'm highly sensitive and disregulted and am trying to work through trauma responses from practicing resistance focusing for so long without the awareness to understand that's what I was doing. I'm a very gentle individual under all of the programs and experimental I've encountered.

Two chords
Incredible
I think that's how you can separate the good musicians from the great ones... how much emotion can they convey and emote within confined circumstances
That's why we listen is emotion.
Not exactly just 2 chords. They play an intro here in D with a Cadd9 I think. Then when they go into the the song proper while it’s G to A there’s a couple of quick sus chords played off of A in there that actually make the music pop. If you just play straight G to A then play it with the Asus chords you’ll notice a big difference.
I've liked Jane's Addiction since the early 90's... this is by far the cleanest and best version of this song. Literally one of my top 5 songs of all time.
