I’m 55 now. 2 kids raised as a single mom. Jamming to this song -2024. Reminds me of simpler times when I was hot and young. This kind of sucks but isn’t it great how music can take you back and give you energy to get off your ass and move on?!!!
you're still hot!
I'm 55 too- and also used to be hot!! 😅
@@jillsipocz3582 I bet you're still hot now
You're still hot, Jen. You'll always be hot.
Damn ! Bet you still have a small part of that hotness back then 😆
Man , how did i miss this gem .. they rocked it !!! Love collective soul ... loudest live band .. a perfect night would be live opening for collective soul ... yeaaah ❤
How fucking weird... I literally saw Live open for Collective at a festival here in Pensacola in like 97ish? Possibly 98'..
Raise your hand if you did the “yeahs” 🙋
I did!
Hell yeah man!!!! 😁🤙🏻
Sucks with out the ' yeah'
I sure did and you cant stop me
I was waiting for them... patiently 😅
Teenagers nowadays will never understand that we used to FEEL the music and not just hear it… 🤘
We used to own it... And it had weight because we had to earn whatever was needed to own it.
That's such a boomer thing to say dude
There's something so magical about Ed Roland. Ed wrote "Shine" all by himself in a basement, hoping to get a publishing deal one day because he was nearly 30 and thought he had no chance to be a songwriter. But 27 years later and millions of records sold later- here he is giving it all to the fans who helped give him the life, love, music and career he has today. He is truly a legendary songwriter, humble gentleman and multi-talented. I'm sure he never would've dreamed that by the time he was 57, he played at 2 Woodstock concerts, recorded with Elton John, played live with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, got inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame twice, toured with and met hundreds of classic, great bands, and more all because he wrote "Shine" in his basement one evening. He was meant to shine.
Great story
"Yea"
This band shines.
This band shines.
Inspirational.... Never lose hope, there's still time to shine 🌞🌞🌞☀️☀️☀️
I lost my Mom very suddenly and unexpectedly on May 5th. She loved Collective Soul, we listened to them a lot when I was growing up and this song came on in the car tonight... I started crying so hard. I miss her so much! 💔🖤💔🖤💔
So sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is hard, overwhelming - something that never crosses your mind until your faced with it. Keep your chin up. I can’t tell you it gets better, but with time it does get easier.
God Bless your Mom ever.
Sorry 4 ur loss 🙏🎸💙
Hold those memories close :)
It's been over 8 months, but please accept my condolences for your loss. 🖤
My dad passed 2½ years ago -- I agree with others that it doesn't really get "better", just easier to go on…
Stay strong, Ms B. 💪
I love this song! I am 77❤Me and my 55 year old son sang this together years ago. Innocent times..where did it all go??
77 here too. Yep, where did it go?
Keep on rocking on!
As a kid in the 70’s, a teenager in the 80’s, and a young adult in the 90’s, I feel like I have lived through the best years.
Your not wrong. People and music was better then. Take some satisfaction in that.
You must be about 50 now right?
@@KingOfYourMouth 52
As Frank said, "The best is yet to come!"
@@KingOfYourMouth 52
Still remarkably timeless for a 27 year old song.
always gives me chills
SPIRIT DRIVEN.......GREAT SONG LYSICSSSSSSSS!!!!! GREAT EDDY>
Yeah! Im 42 so i was a teenager when this was out but these 90s rock bands is what i grew up on .... YEAH 😅
The lead guitarist owns this song. The band is still tight as ever.
Bit older now still sound great. They are one of my favorite 90s bands growing up.
Is that how time works? “Bit older now” lol. Duh!
They sounded fucking fantastic!
@@kyleleon85 haha very true Kyle, that did sound kinda dumb didn't it? Great band never the less.
@@kylesargert3336 raising hands for this funny selfreflecting comment! 😊
Just turned 74 and this song, these guys just kick my ass like they did 20 some years ago. DAMN
Me,too!!
65 here. I’m proud to know that I don’t have to give up my music simply to “act my age”. Screw that!!! Thank you for the inspiration.
Still sounds good to me too and I'm 58.
I’m 58 also, and I’ve been diggin Collective Soul, I don’t know how many years. Since 1994. Don’t want to quit anytime soon!
66 here, fknA..ya think
“ The Holy Trinity of the 90’s , melodic and spiritually sublime.”
The older I get the more I realise how respectable is when singers maintain a good vocal quality. Ed Roland for sure is a pro.
Definitely is no question
His voice just gets better?? And better!!! He's in a league if his own kids
Wtf his voice has gone terrible
@@Mickeymouse7727 yeah this is not great at all
@@davedarling6512 Sometimes I feel like we live in the Twilight Zone with all these people going oh my God this is so amazing! It's like are they just lying to try to kiss the guys a** or something? They think he's going to see the comment and get upset if they are just honest or something
Man I told people for years these guys are on another level
like anyone has to tell .........!we knew always knew
Agree
I my god YES!!
Yes, totally!`
one of the historical rock songs of all the time
"yeah"
Wouldn't go that far
Rabie Biking
It’s Bible Rock....!!!
Naw...it sucks with out the ' yeah '
Great song but I personally like World I Know and Heavy more.
when you're down in the dumps Collective Soul will give you a reason to climb out of it.
So true. This song will be playing when my time comes.
@@KL-er7yi That's how they saved me from committing suicide when I was 19! I met Ed and told him all about it and he told me to never think suicidal again
@@RetroSoulGirl Ed has a good soul. He got that from his dad. Glad you listened!
Wow, that's so damn true. ✨
When musicians write music for life...
Had to be told ! He had a heart of gold 💛🥊 Thank you David . Happy tears 😅 This song takes me back home 🏝️
Billy would be honoured 🤭
Blushing and smirking like this emoji
👉🏽😏 👈🏼
I know you can see his grin ❤️🩹
Holy shit collective soul is old!! Wait that means I'm getting....
Yeah...damn
Welcome to the club my friend...
To be fair, they were "late bloomers" compared to other acts in the 90's. Creates an illusion that their music's older than it really is. Dave Grohl and Ed Roland hit it big at roughly the same time, yet you couldn't tell by looking at them. But yeah.... we getting old.
Just shared that shit on Facebook. I don't feel old at 40 but I feel old as shit seeing this video. They look and sound like a cover band when we used to walk into clubs and shit. Cheers.
Ah indeed we are man lol
Memories are the pillow that I rest my head on as remember the first time I heard Shine...I smile. Thank you 🙏
I’m a deaf bassist and I love this song so much that I learned to play it. It never gets old.
One of the most effective guitar solos ever, masterpiece
These guys always sound freaking incredible, especially live, and that's how you tell a good band from a bad one.
Are they going live again?
One of the best bands have ever seen live. Going to look it up right now. Hoping we all get to see them again soon.Blessings
I saw them live and thought they sounded excellent 👍👍👍
@@anthonymarshall9978 I just saw them last night in San Diego. They're touring with Switchfoot. Amazing night! I think their tour is on till end of Sept this year 2022.
They really put 110 percent into their concerts
Wonderful ballad. Played by fabulous musicians. Still relevant today.
yeah!
The swag, the clothes, the voice, the talent, the sound, the instruments. 90’s ❤️🤙🏼💯
Still sounding perfect. And absolutely nailed the solo 🤘🏼🎸 Thank you for the inspiration 🙏🏻
You guys may not be from the states but we are definitely brothers. Cheers from Utah
Cheers from Pennsylvania too!
Dig your vids guys...amazing talent
Y'all just get better with age💙
Absolutely awesome 👏🏽!
Timing is so tight!!!!
These guys have owned their craft.
listening this song since 1994 ... still rocking and rolling... yeahh
These guys are the best humans i have ever met so much respect and love for them
Their music will forever touch millions of collective souls. Greatest rock group of their era.
Was my favorite well said.!!!
I had a friend who always listened to this song her younger son Brian loved it he died at the age of 9 my beautiful friend is gone now also this band will always have a special place in my heart because of them
This song always makes me feel happy, thank you Collective Soul.😀😀😀
Me too
Yes it does
One of the best songs ever made. Masterpiece ❤❤❤
The first time I heard this song 🎧 was about 13 years old…hit deep. I knew this song was about Jesus, My Lord and Savior. I’m 40 now, still hits deep. Beautiful song.
Always love it when they go or blend some acoustic. Still underrated all these years. This band deserves to be inducted Rock n’ Roll HOF.
what, and deny dolly parton and all those rap acts??? loll. RRHOF is a joke, it took them forever to put Rush and Steve Miller band in. Don't expect them to make smart choices. I would have collective soul in next year if it was up to me.
Collective soul, you will always have a great place in my heart, I saw you for the first time at Woodstock 94, and I love you and will love you forever 🥰🌸
Always loved this song my wife of 55 years asked me to download so I did
Growing up my family had every Collective Soul album. My parents said if they ever come to where I love we're going to see them. They came and it was INCREDIBLE!!! One of my fav bands ever
I think in this context that you meant "live" instead of "love", even when both words are appropriate.
Saw them free at Indy @the square before this album took off. Was a great show!
music has an amazing ability to heal. Music is life.
This made me teary. Shineee... Come on and shine! There's something magical about the 90's and man you need to be glad to have lived that time bc I AM ✨.
Always be a HUGE fan of these guys !!! Lots of good memories behind these notes 😎🤘💓
Awesome great song 😢especially when I'm feeling 😢 down brings a cheer in me keep rocking my friends rock never dies😅
Collective Soul will always and forever be one of my favorite bands that came out of the 90's. You guys sound fantastic all these years later! Well done, gentlemen! :)
Hand raised. Did the yeah. Loved this band from its creation. Wish they would come back.
They’re still putting out music. They just released a double album last month.
Love the guitar lead! Just tearin’ it up! He Damn near jumped out of his seat! Wish it was longer!
One of my top 5 bands from the 90s. Always playing in my car.
Have seen you guys every year for the past 20 years, from Sacramento to Tampa....Love Love Love you guys!!!!!
It took me years to find this song. I’m a child of the 50s so I only heard glimpses of this on the radio. Awesome.
Reunion ☺️
One of the most sneaky RIPPING solos ever.
And only Ross Childress could do that solo justice.
That was one hell of a boost pedal!
@@WarmothGuitarist Is he the original guitarist?
@@undermoonlightglow
Yes. Ross Childress was the original lead guitarist for Collective Soul.
It's a trip how quick we all grow up...
Life, enjoy, the ups and downs and fun and pain, all part of the big book. 66 here just sayin
Great song I m 37 I remember when this came out this And blind melons no rain staples of my life
@Dom Frottenside I graduated in 02

With all my heart to my nephew gone twelve years ago: Heaven let your light shine down💙
I think I was 14 when you entered my life with this song. This hits me the same way as it used to. Excellent as always. Cheers
still the best😊
I think I was 13 or 14 too. Damn its still a rocker!!! And these guys just get better and better and fucking better!!!! Take care brother
AWESOME!!!! Can’t wait to see you all in Georgia, in November 💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋
Collective Soul can still rock it big time. That was tight and uplifting. Just what I need for lockdown #3 here in Melbourne at the moment.
Song is shining in 3 decades!
This song always makes me miss the 90s
This song never gets old ! Love this song !
Collective Soul this song has a special meaning to me on Thursday during a charity benefit concert that was for the people in Turkey and Syria. To close out the benefit concert I preformed this song for the open mic party of the concert we did. People always say music and songs change people lives I can say every time I hear this song I will think of February 16 when I preformed this song of hope. You guys are incredible
Thew all grew up like fine wine ..❤️
Time passes ... but perfection remains. Great band! 👏
I hope you have a perfect day 😌
Well said sir.
I love all their hit song.
Collective Soul rules what a band.
Exactly my man 🤘
Just takes me 5 years to play this beautiful song! Thank you so much! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
i’ll say this we who were born in the 70s grew up during the 80s & 90s had the greatest music still absolutely relevant the weed is much better today but the music of today is a joke
😮Totally agree on 70s & 90s being 2 of the greatest years, I'd drop the 80s and add the 60s Wailers, Stones, Beatles, Dead, Joplin, Hendrix, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, I could keep going for a long while.
@@J.Smitty.GoodStuff my brother i love the kinks, van morrison, right through to nils lofgren! music from every generation some of it tells prophecy thats 100% happened & presently happening in every aspect of our existence as new yet as school any my personal favorite is chris cornell saw him idk how many times with temple of the dog/soundgarden/audioslave/many times live just mr cornell in small outdoor venues in the pouring rain a few times. relaxing spots among the rocks & in the night with everything black and just a small light on him from above singing one & i am the highway, princes music, i will always love you dolly parton or whitney houston never came close! he owns that song! bless you friend keep marching forward!!!!

This song saved me in the early 90's. I was in a bad place and whenever & where ever I went, this tune was my go to song for strength & encouragement. I personally believe it was the best song ever recorded. Thank you Collective Soul for releasing it when you did. I'll always rock it regardless. Thanks again!!!
One of the few surviving bands of the '90s that is still crushing it on all levels.
When I heard "Shine" all those years ago on Jersey's rock, WDHA-FM, I went out and bought Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid. After that, I've bought every album sight unseen, knowing it would be awesome. Listening to Collective Soul is a shot of vitamin B. Being there live is like finding the fountain of youth. Can't wait until this lockdown is over and get back in the audience. Thanks for this in the meantime.
ROCK ON!
How Good Was 90s Music and The Bands that came out from it...I'm so glad I was in that Era ❤
Thank You! I have NOT been alone after all! Peace and Love, TracyVW/Gaia/Ishtar
90’s , one of the two greatest eras in rock history. The 70’s is the other.
And especially considering what we have to listen to nowadays, the 80s was pretty dam good too
Yep.
90s for the win! Still listen to it on Xm every day
Anything before the 2k
I agree 100%
Im so grateful for 'You' continue to look, sound AMAZING !!
I always loved Collective Soul. Their songs give me goosebumps, a great sign, still. This sure perked up my day.
His vocals are still amazing - inspirational.
One of the very few albums I bought multiple times due to wearing it out 🤘
95 was a great year.
The guitarists, medlodies, story telling. This was my summer song in my teens.
Saw them last night. All of them were amazing. Ed is phenomenal.
Brings back my college days!
I remember first hearing his song when a girl i was dating really loved it and she made me listen to this. She said it reminded her of me and to this day, I have never forgotten about her when I hear this song. I bought the album and never ever forgot about it. I became an instant Collective Soul fan since then.
I raised my hand for collctive soul coz it's been 12yrs 😊 always ❤️😊...🤟
Absolutely AWSOME. Always enjoyed this song. It has meaning & the band REALLY brings it.
Perfect!
Can't wait to see you guys in St.Louis 2022! ~lovin those red shoes~
Give me a word
Give me a sign
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find
Lay me on the ground
Fly me in the sky
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find
Oh, heaven let your light shine down
Love is in the water
Love is in the air
Show me where to look
Tell me will love be there
Teach me how to speak
Teach me how to share
Teach me where to go
Tell me will love be there
Oh, heaven let your light shine down
Give me a word
Give me a sign
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find
Lay me on the ground
Fly me in the sky
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find
Oh, heaven let your light shine down
I'm gonna let it shine
I'm gonna let it shine
Heaven send a light, let it shine on me
Hey yeah

I saw these guys live at soaring eagle casino a few years back . They sounded absolutely incredible ! Great energy . You guys rock 😎🤘🏻#collectivesoul
Fun fact: When Ed Roland was recording this as a demo in his basement for what would eventually become Collective Soul's first album, he sang the "Yeah" into an empty toilet paper roll to get that muffled effect. Love this band so much.

Hahahaha sooo worth it!🤘🏽💕
Same here!!
Haha holy crap the exact same thing just happened to me... I was just rocking out by myself and I look over and my wife pulls up her eye mask and goes, “Really????” I said my bad I was rocking w the dogs!
