My big brother introduced me to Janes Addiction more than 35 years ago. He passed away last month at the age of 51. I pray he is at peace and grooving to these classics up there. Love you, bro.
What an amazing gift your big brother shared with you. I'm so sorry for the untimely loss of your brother. He was still very young. He had incredible taste in music. Jane's is one of the loves of my life. Musically. When Nothing Shocking debuted in the late summer of 88, Jane Says was hitting our radio waves. I was instantly and irrevocably in love. I was just 22 and ran out to buy the album. Omg, Summertime Rolls, Up the Beach, and "Ted, Just admit it" were my top favs. Did your brother take you to any of their shows? Or have you seen them on your own? They are brilliant live. My favorite member is Eric. Tbt Eric is Jane's Addiction. The songs I mentioned here, are built from the bass up. Their Averys tunes.
@@kat1yorkthanks for your comment. I was too young to go to their shows in 80s and early 90s. I have seen Jane's live 4 times in adulthood though. They still sound just as good, but you know, without all the drugs, I feel like a little something is missing, as crazy as that may sound. I'm glad they found sobriety though and all seem healthy. My favorites are mostly from Ritual...but I just love Three Days, Then She Did, Classic Girl, etc. Make my stomach ache theyre so beautiful.
@craigh1790 Yes, Ritual is my favorite as well. Beautiful, heartbreaking track list. Three days, Then She Did, Classic girl are deeply personal to Perry. I also love, " I Would for You" off their JA live at the Roxy album. I'm good friends with Casey. She definitely deserves so much more credit than Perry has given her. We call her the 5th member of JA. She's the creative force behind Stop, Been Caught Stealing, the art on the albums, stage settings, and the bands costume designer. You know Casey directed and fimed both of those videos, right? When Been Caught Stealing won MTVs best new creative alternative video in 91, she and Dave went up to collect the award. That award belonged to her, but instead of taking the credit, she gave it all to Perry. Meanwhile, Perry was back at a hotel smoking crack with a prostitute. He left Casey homeless and strung out shortly after that incident. So very sad.
@craigh1790 Have you watched the documentary/musical "GIFT"? That was directed by Casey & Perry. Mainly Casey tbh. I highly recommend it. I own a copy and still watch it from time to time. They were no longer together when the film was released in 93.
@@kat1york Yes. I've seen it. I wish it would be released digitally. That is long overdue. Maybe with the Hall of Fame nomination there will be renewed interest. How did you get to know Casey?
So many lost brain cells yet the memory still remains. Summertime, LSD, a pretty girl and great friends. I wish it could’ve lasted forever. For some of us it did. I love and miss you all the most. Sometimes I listen to this and cry. But mostly smile.
One of the most incredible performances of a truly under appreciated song. Watching Perry Farrell in his prime is beautiful. An amazing band with an amazing leader.
Something about this song really squeezes me. If I'm happy, sad, or sick, this song's emotion envelopes me with a melancholy search of love, and passion in vessel on planet earth.
This one and Up the Beach. I listen, 30 years later, to these all the time. Lately, 3 days a week it's coffee and Up the Beach to get me ready for the day. Sometime in the early afternoon I listen to Summertime Rolls.
Reminds me of the summer of '96 when I hired out an Aston Martin for a week to go drive across Scotland with just a few cassettes for company. I thought fuck the hotels...it was so warm at night, so I'd park up by the road, and find some soft ground to put my sleeping-bag under the stars with a bottle of wine and a spliff. Once in a lifetime, and could never be repeated. Thanks Perry, you're as good a songwriter as Hendrix.
i had the pleasure of meeting perry before he knew who he was as a singer hanging out with my surfer friends all from miami back in the early 80's when we were in southern california... pure creative genius, poet & quite an artist as well... i admire the guts he has to do what he does and express himself completely...
It’s ever so rare for a song to become more than just music but i feel like this performance transcends into a total experience. Like there are no words to describe why this is so perfect. It just IS
I'm in Ireland and I turned a good friend onto JA music.... he loved it, subsequently he was in Afghanistan working and he text me his favourite Janes song as he was looking at the Afghan mountains in the searing heat... Perry's reach is far beyond countries...not to mention Dave and the rest of the band....
My wife and I were lucky enough to be at this concert. I was caller #9 for a station out of Baltimore/ D.C to win tickets to the show. I can't remember the radio station. I do remember the dj was Scottish though. We rode a bus from D.C to NYC Halloween night 1997. It was our first and only trip to NYC so far. Unforgettable.
I tried so hard for tickets for this show, it was the first of the relapse tour...luckly got tickets to the philly show a few weeks later. Best tour post the 91 break up so far!
brings a tear to my eye....I was at this show and watching back and being reminded how epic this show was, it's emotional. I truly feel lucky to have been there with many great friends sharing this moment. This was a magic night in NYC.
Man I found this song in around June and it made me think of driving around Los Angeles during a sunset. I’m from Atlanta tho so obviously it was kinda hard to get tickets but I got to live the dream man, had a wonderful time in LA I really see how that place inspired this kind of music, especially back then. Prefect music. Peace.
So strange to read these "love" comments but here's the deal. When I saw them at the first Lollapalooza (1991) the crowd in Dallas had been rowdy and fighting all day. During Janes Addiction all of that stopped. People were mezmerized by it. Watching these vids brings back that feeling. One of the greatest sounding bands of all time!!!
When I hear this, it hits me in some dark quiet place within myself, it puts a smile on my face… & brings upon me, what I fondly refer to…. as “EUPHORIC RECALL” I hope everyone of you experiences it!!…. All the best to Y’ALL & I hope, you get to feel a fraction of what I do!
Correction. I miss the late 80s and the 90s. When I listen to this it brings back some great memories. Driving around with a pretty girl late at night. Just driving, listening, and talking.
I saw Jane's at Great Woods, Boston, in 1991, the first Lolapalooza. Went on to see the next 2 Lolas after that. I loved the girls they portrayed, and NIN was awesome as well!
Been to many concerts and festivals on LSD and never would have believed any video from a concert in the 90s would leave me feeling so bitter that I wasn't there lol Grateful that this moment was captured so it can be enjoyed forever
I always come back to this....would have loved to been there for this show, Perry, Navaro & Flea - ahhhh!!!! Perry is certainly an acquired taste but that's why I love him!

i dont give two tw@ts bout comparing who is playing what. this is the most powerful music in the last 30 years.
I was there during Jane's Addiction's first major show in LA ,they opened up for this whimpy newro band called Gene Loves Jezebel at the Roxy, back in 1985 ,I believe and I saw them in the early 90's during their supposedly farewell concert here at Aloha Tower in Hawaii two nights in a row.On the first and last show Perry got naked and sang a song, in Hawaii show, the last night ,this was the song he dropped his drawers to,,back then if you did that at a big concert ,the police would arrest you,, But the Honolulu police were cool about it,I could see them laughing in disbelief. The next day the police got a hold of him and told him we will not arrest you but you need to come to the station ,because we have to file a report, thats all no handcuffs, then he was free to go.Janes Addiction in my opinion was the best most original rock band of the 80's and one of the only rocks bands with strong ties to the alternative punk scene and after their first break up after that show marked an end of a era.
