OK guys, I’m 66 years old, a baby boomer. I lived through the best music ever made. However I sometimes pick up on a song that is so awesome I can’t stop listening to it. I heard this song on the radio probably about 10 years ago. The DJ didn’t say the name of the song or the band playing it so I called the station to find out because I was so impressed. This live version is just as awesome as the original recorded version. As Todd says, the message is bittersweet but the music itself for some reason it’s uplifting to me. And I smile when I hear it. The guitar hooks you from the beginning of the song you can’t help but want to hear the rest of it. I love the vocals and the guitar is played smooth and sexy. No rhythm guitarist, Todd does it all. This guy’s song-making, his voice - and guitaristry… all underrated. He’s got a lot of fans, but a lot more folks’d be on board if they saw this video.
You guys are underrated. Song of a generation. Sitting on a tailgate with my college sweetheart. Never forget it. Thumbs up boys. Still means a shit ton.
In a conversation with a beautiful women I had met in Boulder, Colorado she stated "there are allot of great performers but only a few great songs." This resonated deeply as a profound statement. Fast forward to today and I was playing music for my 90 year old father and played "Till There Was You" ruclips.net/video/q4cC4mLp0w8/видео.html done in the Broadway musical "Music Man" He stated that this is one of the all-time greatest songs. I agreed with him!!! Bittersweet falls into the same category of "Great Songs" Thank You Todd.
This isn't earth shaking. Not a showcase for technical prowess. It's just one well written, arranged and , performed, truly beautiful piece of music that should bring a nice big smile to your face.
It actually makes me pensive. Definitely no big smile. The words to the song are not smiling words. Thoughtful, maybe....full of reminiscence....definitely will play it over and over...ahh....a rueful smile....yes, that's it.
Says it very well. I'd add only that -- though it's somewhat implicit in "well-written" -- I find the lyrics and music highly evocative of a widely relatable genuine emotion. Yes, that's how I feel about her -- and, come to think of it, her too.
I've been lucky enough to see them live at least a dozen times. They never disappoint. One of the first times I saw them, after the show we were waiting for the crowd to thin out, look to my left and there is the band just chilling with the fans having a beer. Their music got me in the door, their off stage chill vibe got me hooked.
I am 25 and I just found this song this week after leaving a job that has bittersweet in its title. And i dont know but the feeling you get from this song is just so pure and happy. It takes me away from all the negativity that was that job and reminds me of the good and love that still exists in the world. And reading all these comments. We need more uplifting melodies and riffs/lyrics like this. So happy to have found this song. Already have played it 15+ times

One of the greatest songs ever written, in my opinion and they sound awesome live. I'm not trying to oversell it or anything, but I've played this song so loud that I was certain I'd go deaf afterward. Knowing it was the last thing I'd ever hear, the hearing loss was trivial to me.

I just love this song. The message is so dark yet beautifully said. Relationships turning “Bittersweet “. Who doesn’t know what that feels like? I’m sure we can all identify with that. Had to sit and really read the lyrics. “ I am older now, but it’s Different than my dream, she pretends she’s sleeping, are we everything we wanted?” Tearful and true. Amen, I swear Big Head Todd and The Monsters should get more fame than this. These guys are super popular in Colorado and Wyoming. That's where they started at.
These fellows harken back to the latter half of the 1980's. Back then they were a three-piece band. Had the pleasure of seeing them play all over Boulder when I went to CU. They played the local bars, frat parties, house parties, etc.
The 90's ?? ... No actually its obviously when YOU gave up looking for good music to listen too. Its out there to this day, YOU just have to dig deeper for it is all .... OR you can just stay trapped in the 90's and be one of those pathetic back in the day guys.

@@agnostic1247 I wasn't a fan when it came out. But I think it's all about mellowing with age. Plus it's a good live version. Check out HURT video by Johnny Cash. Ànd have some Kleenex!

Perfect setting in your description for an amazing band singing of love joy and happiness
My heart just Opened, love this
In a conversation with a beautiful women I had met in Boulder, Colorado she stated "there are allot of great performers but only a few great songs." This resonated deeply as a profound statement.
Shit ton, thats a technical term isn't it? Ha.
Shit ton? Or maybe a butt load?
These guys are great.. Disappointed they just didnt get the coverage they deserve .
They're doing great don't kid yourself.
They have a huge fan base!!
That's why they are so great. Too many good bands have been over played/ruined for me on the radio adnauseum........

There is not one time I don’t listen to this live version at Red Rocks that I don’t get goosebumps head to toe! Love this song! 💜
😊 hi shine, miss you 🥰
This song will never grow old. Way underated guitar player
so underrated .. that guitar solo was the bomb !!!
Better than most
Todd has mad guitar skills. Full stop.
Todd makes that guitar sing and he is one beautiful man !❤
One of the most underrated guitarists. His live performances can only be described as, "DAMN!"
Saw them last year. I've always been a big fan but he's incredible as a guitarist. Broken Hearted Savior is one of my favorite songs ever.
Whose listening Jan 2025?

Aussie boy who a like this band . Whos watching
Go Aussie!
Meant to get in touch 🎉but the world keeps spinning.
And that, my friend, is plenty good enough!
Don't need it to be "earth shaking" (sic) ... Just need it to be good, and it's DAMN GOOD ...
They show pure music and enjoy each other, beautiful
Says it very well. I'd add only that -- though it's somewhat implicit in "well-written" -- I find the lyrics and music highly evocative of a widely relatable genuine emotion. Yes, that's how I feel about her -- and, come to think of it, her too.
this song is so damn sweet. the guitar solo kicks ass.
the guys voice is great.
Awesome
Yup, that solo rocks. So does the one on Circle.
So great so great
Oh for sure ❤ loved being brought back'here to hear' . Its been awhile
Its ok for western music, tumbleing along with the tumble weeds, campfire music 😛
I saw them in Richmond VA in January 2018. Love them so much. This is my favorite song by them.
i saw em live in knoxville, tn... :)
@@flynnndawg I love them.

I discovered this band in the early 90s and loved the music. My mom had a cat later in the 90s and early 2000s. We called him Big Head Todd.
I just found this guy tonight. Where was I ? Wow. This dudes got it.
we need totally to be uplifted! Entire country is messed up! too much hate!

I had the pleasure of seeing them a few years back in West Palm Beach Florida it was amazing!
When this song first came out radio stations wouldn't play the extended version.. the end still gives me chills!!!
No other band can play with the quality of BHT and his guys...untouchable!
I loved this song the first time I heard it on the radio.Seeing it live is even better.Todd is a great singer and guitar player.
One of the most underrated bands of the 90's. Great memories from my college years. Rock on Todd, amazing stuff!!!

WE ARE HUMAN BITTERSWEET ❤️
This band came out of Colorado....had a friend that turned me on to them. They started playing bar gigs before they ever landed at Red Rocks 😉 first heard them in 1998 I think
I'm a Nebraska girl, born in Colorado
@@kimweesner6740 I saw them live in 1995 in Grand Junction.
Let's face it, I'm old too, and I like it, just like all of you! Good stuff!
A little light looks through her bedroom window
She dances and I dream, she's not so far as she seems
Of brighter meadows, melting sunsets
Her hair blowing in the breeze
And she can't see me watching
And I'm thinking love, love
Love, love
It's bittersweet
More sweet than bitter
Bitter than sweet
It's a bittersweet surrender
It's bittersweet
More sweet than bitter
Bitter than sweet
It's a bittersweet surrender
I said I'm older now
I work in the city, we live together
But it's different than my dream
Morning light fills the room, I rise
She pretends she's sleeping
Are we everything we wanted
And I'm thinking love, love
Love, love
It's bittersweet
More sweet than bitter
Bitter than sweet
It's a bittersweet surrender
It's bittersweet
More sweet than bitter
Bitter than sweet
It's a bittersweet surrender
I said I know we don't talk about it
We don't tell each other
All the little things that we need
We work our way around each other
As we tremble and we
As we tremble and we bleed
As we tremble and we
As we tremble and we bleed
It's bittersweet
More sweet than bitter
Bitter than sweet
It's a bittersweet surrender
It's bittersweet
More sweet than bitter

Amazing Song
Thank you so much for posting the lyrics.
So sad. But yes amazing song.
That's what I thought they were. I wasnt sure if I wanted to know. For sure. Cause its bittersweet
Yes
Pay attention children this is music
Yes it is
Yes it is!
One of the greatest songs ever written, in my opinion and they sound awesome live. I'm not trying to oversell it or anything, but I've played this song so loud that I was certain I'd go deaf afterward. Knowing it was the last thing I'd ever hear, the hearing loss was trivial to me.
Chris Harrison, one of the most beautiful songs ever
They don't make them like this anymore. So glad my bf turned me on to these guys...Omg, I 😍 this song!!
Chris Harrison Totally agree!!!!
Chris Harrison I’m with you brother, beautiful, simple songs are such a rare commodity these days ......
Chris Harrison best of the best
That drummer keeping absolute perfect time..
I play this song over and over and over again . . . One of the best songs of ALL time! Easily in my top five and I am 67 years old!
I don’t understand exactly what it is that brings me back to this. The song, the lyrics, the guitar, the drums, etc. , it’s all just perfect.

A comment seen commonly on YT. In this case, it's true.
I love the effects he's using--so tasty! Is that some kind of hollow-bodied Fender, also?
I was just born but I’ve been listening to music in my mother’s womb this whole time and this is the best song I’ve heard so far.

THE REASON THAT I USE CAPS IS BECAUSE I HAVE NEUROPATHY IN MY HANDS.
I CANNOT FEEL THE SCREEN KEYBOARD WHEN I TYPE.
MY EYESIGHT IS ALSO BAD.
SO I HAVE THE CAPS ON, TO MAKE THE LETTERS BIGGER ON THE KEYBOARD, AND ALSO ON THE SCREEN, SO I EASIER CAN SEE WHAT I HAVE TYPED.
I AM SORRY IF MY DISABILITIES ARE AN INCONVENIENCE TO YOU.

Thank you BHTTM For such a great song.

Always loved the music. But listen closely and it becomes clear the songwriting is right on the mark. Beautifully crafted.
There is a crab shack in Sitka Alaska that plays this music on a loop, good music and great crab, Biguns Crab Shack
The 90's was the last decade for great music.
So far!!!

Fantastic! What a setting, the crowd chilling and absolutely loving it! Real musicians who look like everyday guys, no fancy outfits, lights , dancers,.... just badass musicians sharing their talent! 10/10.
I went to their concert at Dartmouth College in winter of 1995. They were opening for Dave Matthew’s band. $16 per ticket. It was in a large gymnasium that was maybe half to 3/4 full ( if my old fart memory serves correctly). Incredible memory from so many years ago. For a split second, I’m back in high school. The good old days weren’t perfect, but they certainly were good.
Love his voice!!!!! I cut his hair in the Cherry Creek Mall back in the 90's!! He is such a wonderful person!
