I realize it’s been three years since you posted this video but I just had to tell you that I’ve searched high and low for the perfect way to store/protect pencils from damage while still allowing them to be handy AND also keep MY favorite color combo’s intact...you nailed it! Thank you so much!

informative video...I happen to love prismacolor premier colored pencils and recently bought the same leather case to store them 😀
I did find the pencils breaking a lot when I used them and especially when i sharpened them! got frustrated so bought a 24 set of Faber Castell polychromos to try out...
in the interim I left my Prismacolors in the trunk of the car, when I moved to Florida in August, for a few weeks ( in its tin container)...
I recently decided to take them out to sharpen , because I do love the colors and creaminess. well, to my surprise they ALL sharpened to a great point w NO breakage PLUS they went down on the paper fabulously w no breakage!!!
moral of the story: leave your pencils in a super warm place and they will b better than ever ! I did hear, recently , that if u heat the prismacolor pencils up w a dryer slightly it fixes the core so it won't have that crazy breakage problem everyone has been complaining about...
that Florida summer heat fixed my WHOLE SET - who knew?

Andrea Harutunian that's such a relief, I've been thinking of purchasing a set of Prismacolor, but from the things I've heard they have a lot of quality control issues. The good thing is I live in the Middle East a lemme say IT GETS SOO HOT! The hottest it's ever been is 47 degrees😳 Thanks for the information😆

I love all colored pencils, but my favs are Prismacolor and Faber-Castell. Love when I find a really rare, unusual shade. I also do beadwork which is where all my supplies for coloring came about.

I have a small set of prismacolor pencils, but won a contest where i received a set of 12 colored pencils, it was a variety of prismacolor, polychromos, and the staedtler, my favorite of them all were the polychromos, they blend so well to me. I don't use pencils that often, but when I do I love the ease of use and blendability of the polys.

I call them colored pencils but I am from South Dakota. I usually just use crayola as I color a lot with my children but would not mind trying a new set of colored pencils because I enjoy coloring with my children it helps with our down time as they need a lot of things to keep them busy because they are both autistic. I love the color pages you have to print as well as my kids. Thank you!

I just found your channel today via your webpage when I was looking for a chart I could swatch all of the sets of my PrismaColor pencils, as well as the Derwents I have. Then it will cause me to move into the 3 or 4 brands of alcohol markers, etc, I had most of it swatched before a hurricane. I was actually organizing my pencils into light, medium and dark when I came to look for a swatch chart I could print. I design and sew wedding gowns and evening wear, etc. and I am an art supply HOARDER !! A little OCD and just moved my art studio and draping room so I had more room in my sewing and cutting room in my studio, so I am organizing everything all over again. I used to have the art box subscription for about a year, so I have all sorts of misc. art supplies, but they are fun. It is like fabric to me, you can never get enough :) Just like learning, I always look at sketching and sewing videos, it is amazing the smallest things you pick up. Your videos and blog are great I will say, you speak perfect and explain well, not too much gabbing in the beginning like some I watch, the first 9 minutes are talking about thinking about the video or something ughhh. I am very happy I found you, and I will keep watching for sure!! If I could only offer one suggestion, as I am going through a total re-branding and have spoken with many consumers and branding experts I am just offering friendly advice, I hope you don't take it the wrong way, as it was given to me, I LOVE my nails, jewelry, etc but in your videos how you show your nails and such all the time. I got reamed and they were right, as I have also seen some very mean comments on other peoples channels, and nobody gives a rats spit, they are there to see what I am talking about, not what color glitter french manicure I dipped my nails in the night before or something. I was going to email you, but I didn't see an email vs saying this on here, but I took my channel down because of it and I am going to be putting a whole new on up anyway focusing on the gowns in the right way. Love your videos and how we are so much alike on how we have to organize and keep things together. I am going to order the leather holders today! As soon as I saw them I also said embroidery monogram or saying or an art graphic or all there is front and back lolol. So much better than me carrying all of my tins to bed at night as I do a lot of sketching then, I usually can't sleep due to pain, I have MS & a brain tumor just to name a few and am in a horrible flare up & constant headaches, so I don't sleep much. Not at all last night which is why I am probably typing too much...I will shush now! Thanks again for some great ideas!!!

Glad to see something on storage. Most of what I have read by many manufacturers and experienced colorists have highly recommended cases to protect the pencils from damage and pens to keep them horizontal. I found some of these Global Arts cases on Amazon and purchased them in a few colors. I have my Prismacolor 150 ct set in the 120 & 48ct size Rose Canvas cases. These make traveling with them much safer. I also have a variety of other cases for my gel pens, Sharpies etc coordinated by color for the type or brand. Keep posting and sharing..- Oh, also love the color swatch idea!

I love the triangular shape that prevents the colored pencil from rolling off the table. That looks like a beautiful case, but I think it is far more expensive than I would generally be comfortable buying. I only have a couple of sets of pencils so I haven't quite decided what types I like the best. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

Up to this point, I have only used the inexpensive COLORED PENCILS you can get anywhere. When I try something new, I do it simply until I learn what really will work for me.
Storing them gets problematic because I color in bed. Right now I have them sorted by color family with a rubber-band to hold each family together. Those banded groups sit point-up in a box that is about the right size.
My storage method is going to change and I am going to work on getting something similar to the Global Art container you showed. After that, we will start to get GOOD colored pencils.

Loved your tips, as usual. I hope to try the Prismacolor Coloring Pencils in the near future. My staple was always Crayola Coloring Pencils. I'm now learning of the many different pencils and their characteristics, and it's so much fun. Yes, I called them color pencils. That's what I learned here in the US, and it stuck with me. The Staedtler set you feature here, seem interesting too, so I hope to be able to add them to my coloring tools as well. Thanks again for the great information.

Thanks for showing us how to organise colour pencils. I use a range of "Colour Pencils", or types of "Colour Pencils"..I have used , Derwent Intense pencils for a book illustration done by hand.
I used Faber Castel Pencils and mostly water colour pencils.
I did make my own little case out of material to store my pencils, but my stitching was not really fine enough and it needs to be done by a sewing machine.
I use a lot of mixed media for my drawings, I use Staedtler pens and Staedtler drawing pencils and I think these are the best ones. I also have used Derwent conte pencils as well...
However I have used Derwent pencils for years but more so the water colour ones.
I have never tried the prismacolor pencils.
Not tried the Staedtler colour pencils.
I have hundreds of pencils so much you could not know... So I watched your video to learn how to organise hundreds of pencils.
Thanks so much for your video.

When the leads break, keep them. You can get a Staedtler brand mechanical lead pencil, drop the broken lead in the tip of the mechanical pencil and away you go no more waste!! It works so well and I just store the mechanical pencil in my pencil case now, so it’s a part of coloring with the pencils now since Prisma color pencils are my favorite except for the breakage factor which is a constant unfortunately.

Hi Jennifer! I'm always excited when I get a notification that you've posted on your FB page. :) I'm from the South and call them colored pencils. For the longest time, I've used Crayola/Rose Art/off brand colored pencils and I have to admit, became very frustrated because what I was coloring or drawing just wasn't turning out like I envisioned. Not to mention, my fingers would ache after just a few minutes of coloring especially when adding pressure. So, I stopped coloring--for a while, but have recently picked it back up again as it's my stress reliever and I've always enjoyed it! One of the reasons I picked it back up was due to the videos I saw of you with your different techniques. Anyways, I just received my very first set of Prismacolor pencils yesterday (the 48 count--I really wanted the 120 count--one day) and I CANNOT wait to try them! Amazon also had a "Lightning deal" that got my attention on Kynsa Premium Fine Tip Gel Pens (24) for $10 that are normally $25, so I have a lot of experimenting to do this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

The Prismacolor Premier 150 set is my ultimate dream set of colored pencils. Prismacolor pencils are so easy to use and produce amazing colors with very little effort. They allow me to color longer without the discomfort of my hand cramping.
Although I've never had the opportunity to try the Staedtler pencils but I would love to, of course. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the things you share.

My favorite colored pencils so far are Marco Raffines. Ive been wanting some Staedler pencils for a long time.Ive seen how vibrant and beautiful the colors are. I follow a fb color page and thats where I see people color these beautiful pictures.
I love that case. I have a roll up case where I keep my colored pencils. I also use soup & fruit cans that have the pull top lids. I color a strip of a design then I glue it to the can. I keep my 12 marco raffines I use everyday in them. I also use my tall pill medicine bottles that are see through for all my shorter pencils. I also have Sargent pencils I use.
Im going to eat and watch the rest of your videos.
My wish is to own some of those Staedler colored pencils. My fave color is any blue in my marco raffines. Thank you for the chance to win those pretty pencils :)

I love it! After watching this I'm ashamed to admit how I store my pencils. I have them organized by color families in ziplock bags in a box. Ouch! My favorite brand is Prismacolor. I was given some as a gift when I was a teenager and I still have them and love them. They're so expensive, though. With some of the sharpening issues I have with my pencils, it looks like I need to rethink the way I store them. Thank you for posting this video!

Thank you for the info. This helps me understand the problem I'm having sorting my Feela colored pencils. I was separating them from light to dark but their tones were off, some shades, some pastels, some almost impossible to place. But now I will go through them again, checking their tone first, then arranging them by shades. I wish you blessings and other good things, thank you.

I started with Crayola then I got a set of Marco Raffine colored pencils. Now I finally got a set of 120 Faber Castell Polychromos. I love them. (I got them for a steal on eBay.) The first thing I did when I got them was put them in a book like yours but mine is denim. I got it from hobby lobby with the 20% off coupon they always have online. I've tried prisma but I think they are too soft, I like to color a lot. I probably have 15 coloring books. It's my relaxation time. I think I would go through the prisma too fast for the money you spend. Right now my favorite coloring books are color by number.

I just started coloring a few months ago, and I haven't really done much with pencils. I like the rich colors of markers. I tried using Crayola pencils when I first started, but I didn't like them at all. I recently bought a set of 48 Prismacolor Premiers at AC Moore. I am 77 yrs old & just got in to coloring. I purchased Crayola colored pencils but realized I did not know how to "Color". I just colored staying in the lines. But the You Tube videos made me realize I had to blend & shade. I invested in Faber Castell Polychromos (36 set). But am still trying to blend properly. I find the set is probably too small but maybe if I learn to blend properly & choose the proper pencils to color/blend the set of 36 may be enough. I am storing the Faber Castell in the tin the came in & the Crayolas are kept in tiny cute buckets purchased at Target. I see that I probably need to buy a case for the Faber Castell colored pencils.

They are all color pencils to me! Prismacolour's are my favorite for blending. They have another plus, the softer lead means less pressure for more color and that is a huge bonus especially when my hands and arms are at their most painful and I really wanna use pencils. Although, I have a very large collection of markers and pens for when I NEED the relaxation of coloring but seriously can't handle the pain...This is also why they stay in their own pencil box. I also use crayola's, cra-z-art's, royal's, raffine's (reasonable price and pretty smooth)!

I just got into coloring reasons is because I'm alone after losing my life long partner my Husband of 38 yrs. And so much of my time I am suffering from depression and loneness, so sad all the time. Once I started coloring I was feeling a little better seeing all the beautiful colors come to life. I keep my uncolored pages on a clip board for support to color on, then once finished I move them to a folder, not sure what to do with them but because they are so pretty and brings a smile onto my face I'm holding onto them. So just starting I don't have many color pencils actually I have only one set and that is a Loew-Cornell set. And would so love to have more, but money is tight so I have to watch my spending. Been checking out the different kinds that are out there and want them so much, but finding a set of Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. Also hearing about your tools of a pencil extender and a color blending pencil, I think I would like to get them also - soon. Thanks for your video, enjoy watching them and learning is a plus. Thanks

I am so new at this I don't have a favorite set of anything! I was interested to learn that pencil crayons was Canadian. I grew up around Boston and when I moved to St Louis it was a shock. I had never heard of ice cream sundaes and called carbonated drinks pops as opposed to soda's. I want you to know I have been smearing gel pens like crazy and loving it. Also - a tip learned the hard way - gel high lighters do not allow themselves to be colored over very well. I saw them somewhere and picked up a set of 4. It's fun to use them but they don't play well with markers or colored pencils. I really enjoy your videos - thank you for sharing them.

I started coloring with my granddaughter's Crayola colored pencils set of 50 which I got on sale. They are actually quite nice considering the price. I waited a long time to finally purchase my Premier Prismacolor pencils set of 72 which I got at a bargain price. Back in 2007 when I had open heart surgery my Mom gifted me a set of Prismacolor watercolor pencils which I used to make Thank You notes for all the flowers and gifts I received. They are a lot of fun to color with, but I save them for really special things I might be working on. I would love to try Faber-Castell brand and eventually Tombow markers to work on hand lettering. Oh, and the. there is Copic! Never enough time or money to do it all! Super fun learning! I really enjoy your videos, Jennifer. Thank you!👍

This year while I was looking aat school supplies with my son we found this great 50 pack of crayola colored pencils, so I got that to try those yet. I love the way you store your colored pencils. I'd love to have a huge set of Prisma Colors like you have one of these days. So far I have the 24 pc. set of them and a bunch of other brand sets, you know the cheaper kinds you find in mass retail stores. But like you I suffer cronic hand pain so having the softer pencil cores make my coloring much more relaxing and less painful.

Love the video. I too call them color pencils. You keep on calling them pencil crayons. I started with a 72 count set of Crayola color pencils, and went on the hunt for another brand of pencils. The Crayola just didn't blend very well. So, in my hunt, I of course saw the Prismacolor. But, my heart fell when I saw the price. I enjoy coloring, but I didn't want to invest that much money in it.So, I hunted some more, and came across Raffine brand. The reviews ranked it just below the PrismaColor, and the price was right. So, that's what I use mainly, but am looking to try some gel pens and watercolor pencils. By the way, I love the case you bought, but again, I'm a cheapskate, so I made my own pencil roll. It's definitely not as sturdy as your cases, and I don't have them organized into color pallets. I think I will have to try that! Thanks so much for sharing!

Shefali Venkatramani I just bought the 150ct set of Prismacolor Premier color pencils at a cheaper price than Amazon's. Plus because I was a new member at Jet.com I received 15% off my next 3 purchases including my 1st one. I ended up paying $45.00 for the set which included a bonus Prismacolor set that had 2 erasers, ebony pencil, colorless blender pencil, blender marker, pencil extender & a small sharpener. You can choose a different option that has the Prismacolor sharpener & triangle eraser as the bonus instead. Some of their things are cheaper than Amazon's and some aren't so price check. Plus they ship FedEx 2 day at no extra cost with free returns & the more you buy the more their prices drop on top of your discount. They didn't have the complaints that Amazing did about missing pencils, duplicates & broke pencils. I'm a big Amazon's fan but I'm a bigger fan of saving money. They also have excellent customer service. This was my 2nd purchase & I saw something I'd just bought had dropped in price. They gave me an instant credit to use on my next purchase before I checked out.

I am in Utah. I call them colored pencils too. I am still experimenting how I like to color. There are many free apps to color pictures. Really fun. I still store my colored pencils in a school pencil box. Next I think I would like to try using gel pens to color with. I enjoy it more when it turns out brighter and darker.

Very informative....I am excited about this subscription. I also call them colored pencils. I am a new colorist and I am eager to learn all the coloring techniques and information and tips on supplies. I started with the Prismacolor 72 Premier set - LOVE THOSE. I have since added a few more inexpensive smaller sets plus I just order the Holbeim Pastels 12, Black Widow 24, Koh - I Noor tricolor 24, Derwent metallic set 24, and Koh-I-Noor Woodless pencils. I am hoping that this is a good beginner's selection. I would appreciate any tips. I purchased fabric roll pencil storage holders which are working great as they are all laying out in color groups by sets. I do however like the case you suggested. I think I will try that when I get a new large set. LOOKING FORWARD TO LEARNING MORE!

I, too, just found your channel recently after watching Kathy Racoosin's "The Daily Marker" channel. I currently only have the 48-color of Primacolor Pencils as well as the Prima coloring pencils that came out last year. I would like to buy a set of Derwent Inktense pencils and the Polychromos. I think those would really be nice! I like the storage case you featured in this video & am thinking of buying one. We invest money in good supplies, I'd love to keep my pencils in one place, instead of several tins. Thanks for sharing & I look forward to watching many more of your videos! Patrice

I enjoyed your video on colored pencils (crayons). I started Adult Coloring just a few months ago. I find it challenging, yet very exciting as I can learn some artistic ways....like blending, color combinations, etc. I look forward to watching more of your RUclips videos and also going to your website. I recently purchased the 120 pencil set of Faber Castell Polygromos (spelling). I debated between them and the Prismacolor Premier. Because of the complaints of quality on the Prisma pencils, I chose Faber Castell. Now I looking into gel pins, etc. It is fun to learn at my old age and it is uplifting when I learn different techniques and then apply them. Thank you for your informative video. I enjoyed it.

I know it's an old video (which means I might have stumbled on a treasure trove of content!) but I have to say this is actually genius. I have coloursoft in an almost identical case & recently took all my polychromos (my favourite!) from a huge Derwent binder/pencil case/bag because nothing 'worked' for me. And even the case I use for the coloursoft (like yours) because I have one I'm using every available slot... and they really aren't that easy to remove when every slot has 3 pencils. I have 150 polychromos due to arrive tomorrow & I was seriously wondering how the hell to work with so many pencils without needing an entire desk just to lay them out - and I was about to test using jars of different colours AND brands.... but this is actually genius. Not just more cases for colours but your way of grouping AND the swatches (giant sheets are great but then you have to track down that colour....). Did I mention it? Genius!

We call them coloured pencils in the uk. Crayons are usually wax or oil based little Stubbs encased in paper and used by children for colouring. Lol. ....Have just become the proud owner of the full set of Prismacolour pencils and am looking forward to use them on the Magic Jungle book by Johanna Basford. I call them colored pencils. I'd love to try the Staedtler pencils. I have the original dozen Prismacolors and six open stock. They give bright bold colors compared to the Crayola's I have but they don't sharpen to a point and don't seem to last as long, so I used them sparingly. I'd love to try the Polychromos someday when my financial situation improves.

I love the prisma colored pencils but haven't been able to afford them yet. I currently use crayola and have all of the colors that are available. My favorite to use for outlining is "Everest Green"..it just adds a little more depth than standard black. I'm glad you shared the "extender" item as it's a really good idea. I've always thought of them as colored pencils, but some of them do remind me of crayons, depending on the paper I use. I always learn something when I watch your videos. I like how you group colors - I may start doing this! My current favorite pencils are prismacolor, although I tend to try a lot of different brands. I call them colour pencils and right now I own around 80 of them, quite a mixture of brands. I like to buy the individual colours instead of the sets and luckily the art supply store in town carries the Faber-Castell Polychromos, which are sensuously soft, as well as the Prismacolor Verithin which are very hard and excellent for small details as they keep their sharp point far longer. So, put me down for either set, I find there's a use all the different types.

I just found your site on 2/15/17 and I am like over flowing with so much new knowledge. I will be a daily viewer and be sharing my ideas with you as well. I am just so excited and my juices are beginning to flow again. Thanx so much Jennifer. I will view your other videos to see if there is a schedule when you upload so I can join into the conversations you seem to like as I do. Often I will play some favorite music to sing along with as I create my master pieces...lol But truly some pieces require so much time and detail that after they are complete I actually sign and date mine.
Jennifer, I am curious about something and would love to hear what you think of the subject. Since discovering the pleasure of coloring and sharing with friends and family some have gifted me with coloring books that aren't the best of papers used and then the publisher will print on both sides of the page. It's so annoying to have to pick one or the other... Now I did find an awesome book at Michaels on 12"x 12" good stock paper and printed on one side and they put in of the same art so there are varied ways of using them. There are several books now being published? I find myself giving the dbl sided pages to the kids who come to visit, for the price of some of these books I find I become annoyed. The only thing I can do is to scan each page and then print them out in which case I am able to use an upgraded quality of paper...
I would be interested in your opinion as well as others.
I super enjoy your videos and so much info, please keep up the good work. ~Bobbi
