- I recently got a full set of the Derwent Lightfast colored pencils. And while I LOVE the beautiful wooden box they came in, it’s just not practical for frequent, every day coloring. I love to swatch and watch you, Jennifer. Your voice is so soothing, I find myself so relaxed I could almost fall asleep (and I do not mean that in a negative way!!) Is it just me, or is swatching an experience all in itself? I find it more relaxing than coloring a page. I know, that’s weird. But it’s so satisfying swatching a new set of colors!
Not weird!!! I love swatching too. It’s such a beautiful experience full of color. No pressure to create anything, you just get to thoroughly enjoy your art supplies and have a sense of accomplishment when you’re done. 😊❤️

Totally. I spent 6 months swatching before I even started coloring for real. I learned the basics of blending and tone/tint/shade so when I tried coloring an image, it was actually pretty decent! I’m teaching myself, so I think it will be time to ask for feedback soon. Love swatching soooooo much!

Great Video. I find swatching so relaxing especially with music in the background. Have you ever considered a blank swatch book that has both white and tan paper?
Jennifer will you ever be making a Tri-tone worksheet for crayola color pencils? Like you have for prismacolors? Including the colors of the world pencils? My son is still very young (10 years old) but loves to sit with me when I work on my tri tone prisma color pencils and is always trying to make blends too, we have found some through other channels but only with the smaller sets. I would love to make it a thing we watch together and that way he could work on his very own book as well. I am sure there has to be others who don’t have access to artist quality sets and strictly work with crayola colored pencils that would love to make what they do have work better for them. I know I would certainly be willing to pay for that even if it was an add on to the current membership plans.
If you have a tri-tone setup for your Prismacolors, you can use the tri-tone blank swatch sheets (I believe there are tri-tone blanks?). You can find the closest equivalent colors from your son’s pencils that match the Prismacolor tri-tones and make it yourself. I don’t have a tri-tone setup, but initially I put together lights, mediums, and darks of each color for shading and depth. That should be easy to do as well and easy for a kid to use.

How come my pencils don’t make that wonderful sound when I swatch mine on paper! LOL! I definitely need to get some of your swatch books!
Mary it could be your paper for sure. That beautiful sound is a combination of the type of pencil and the paper. I love paper!! 😂❤️

Just ordered 6 swatch books. Very excited to order-then after giving payment details etc-was told don’t ship to Australia!!!
Very disappointed as I would prefer the already organised swatch charts rather than downloading and having to find the right paper etc!!!
