Love it when you recommend helpful tools from the Dollar Store. That's perfect for my budget.
+RBdreamsART, I am a big believer in blissful solutions and what's more blissful than inexpensive art tools? 😉
Wow! What an amazing discovery and THANK YOU for sharing it with us, your fans. My head feels swollen with the amount of knowledge it has "soaked up" from you in all your videos. You are a wonderful asset to all of us colorists!
+Lynne Bailey, such a nice compliment, thank you! Have fun coloring!
I never guessed that your new tool was a spatula! LOL! It's a good tool, and that's all that matters anyway. I love to watch you coloring, no matter what you are using. You are so talented. Thanks again, Jennifer!
So glad i found this video! You have one of the best art channels. Love your work Jennifer
Try the Tombow colorless blender marker for gel pen blending. Keep a paper towel near forgiving between use just as you probably wipe the build up other tip other gel pens between use. It works great and blends beautifully!
Isn't amazing with what you can find in your house as an art tool. Thank you for sharing this !!!
An amazing process. Very beautiful Jennifer. Who would have thought you could blend like that with gel pens. Thank you!
@Coloring Bliss - Jennifer this is genius! Thank you for always thinking about how you can help us. You’re the best!
So I just need something made out of silicone to blend? Thanks for sharing!
That is unbelievable! I've had two of those spatulas for years, and never thought about using them for my art work! At least having two, I can relocate one permanently to my craft room, and not have to run to the kitchen every time I want to use it for colouring with gel pens :-)
I'll use my makeup sponge and see if that works first.
The coloring is AMAZING.
I just ordered 120 gel pens from Amazon and a garden coloring book! I feel like I'm 5!
😘💖😘💖😘🤗🌻
Love your nails. This episode is eye opening Jenifer, great tips...
Thank you. Great tip. Hmm, I wonder if the silicon modeling tools used for pastels and clay would work. The modeling tools are handy dandy right here in my place already. Maybe I’ll give it a go and get back to you.
How fun! And so much less messy than fingers :)
I have been coloring since I was a little girl, I guess I've never stopped. When I began teaching adult education in a corrections facility, I brought coloring in as a stress buster. Surprisingly, not only did my women love it, but my men are absolutely enamored! I have some extremely talented folks, and though I can't use fancy pens and such, they love using colored pencils and creating. I am so glad I found your site- will be printing pages for my students to use....Thanks again~
+Sherry Corbett, you should check out my Gift of Bliss program for public service and non-profit organizations. Have fun sharing the colorful bliss!
Im in love with the Gelly Roll pens
As usual, you never cease to amaze me with your discoveries and creative techniques. Thank you so much.
+Dolores Ungerleider, you are so sweet. Thanks for your support.
Great idea, Jennifer! I was playing in a coloring book with my gel pens, yesterday, and had the same problem of the paper starting to peel and break down when I attempted to blend two colors. I had already watched this video, yet it did not become handy until I started trying to do the same thing with my pens. The word is actually "mottled". I know this from studying outdoor plants. I had a plant called "Columbine". It is a shade plant. If it receives too much sun then the leaves being to variegate, thus the mottled effect. Maybe Autumn leaves change colors because they are affected by the sun, too. Thank you for creating these videos. They inspire me to use my supplies instead of just looking at them on the shelf. You have a beautiful voice. Very soothing to my ears.
+Wendy Frances Milone thanks for the plant info...I don’t have much of a green thumb...unless I’m using green gel pens 😉💚. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Uniball signo is by far the best white highlighter tool I have used and gel pens are such a pleasure to work with especially highlighting over other meduims like charcoal. They just make everything pop and they barely bleed unlike regular ball point inks.
Very nice technique! I have a bunch of these spatulas in my kitchen. Great for cooking and now for coloring! Thank you for sharing.
OMG..... what a fabulous idea!!!!! I watched this while my husband and I are out running errands. My final stop on our way home is the dollar store. Thanks so much!!!!
+Sandy Crawford, lol...I bet your hubby loved making an extra stop! Have fun coloring. 😊
This looks so good, I bought a heap of gel pens but had wondered how I could use them in my colouring, ( I am a beginner)
+Kristine Harkin, there are sooooo many fun ways to incorporate gel pens into coloring! I love them ❤️❤️
I'm so glad I discovered your channel. It's so relaxing to watch.
Thank you so much! I just bought some gel pens, I'll have a look for a spatula. I love your idea!
Thank you Jennifer for recommending a blending tool that doesn't break the bank! I'm looking forward to blending with my gelpens!
+Ana Darch, you're welcome and have fun! 😊
I looked at my 100 gel pen set everyday n try to figure out what to do with it.. Now i know what to do.. I love coloring n this tool n ideas r great.. Thank you so much!!
Thanks. I haven't used gel pens yet and this gave me the confidence. This was a great how-to
This is a handy way to spread the ink thinner. (I came across this while looking for a way to mix gel inks together.) You should try this using 2 or 3 colors to spread together.
I find that with my gelly pens, to get a good glob of wet ink down, once the ink is flowing well in the pen, if I tap in one spot, rather than scribbling it works a bit better. Sometimes, the tiniest wiggling/vibrating movement can get it flowing, too. (Then lightly tapping) That, and using the thicker nibbed gelly pens, work well too.
The thicker, the layer of ink layed down, the more intense the color will look. I haven't tried using a spatula, but i imagine that you can control this by the amount of pressure used, and how far your spreading it.
Thanks for the video!
Absolutely genius!! Thank you so much for this helpful tip...been frustrated with my gel pens and now I know what to do.
Perfect!!! Great tip and lovely coloring… 😊❤
What a great technique and such a bonus that a cheap dollar store spatula works wonderfully well. Thanks so much for sharing this!
always been interested in the engineering of the human hand , and im watching and learning while watching your hands with the sound down lisening to the band gong lp i am your egg , and it feels magical . thankyou , just started getting into gell pens .great medium....
This looks like so much fun! I will be heading to the dollar store after work tomorrow. Awesome!
Oh the colors are amazing and the result is awesome!!
+Anne-Marie Levesque, I'm glad you liked this video! I haven't colored with my gel pens for ages and I'm aching to pull them all out and play!
How did you come up with this technique? I've seen just about every tool & trick out there but this is really great & saves your finger from smearing two colors together.
Great idea for blending. I must try this out. Thanks for sharing.
Great tip! I never even thought to take the silicone ends off permanently (I had purchased a couple a while ago to use as paint brushes like Catalyst brushes on my gel press- I even cut a few designs into the silicone for different patterns). And actually, after you take the silicone off, you have 3 tools! The handle makes a great stir stick 😉
OMG Jennifer!! I'm so amazed with you my lovely generous friend. If anyone could work this out, for all us gel pen lovers, then it had to be you! Thank you so much for sharing this fab tip. The results you got with your beautiful colouring of the autumn leaves mandala, was just gorgeous and more realistic than anything we could usually achieve with the beloved gel pens. Loved that finished page by the way. Lastly, I always notice your nails and today's were just stunning. Always love watching your videos Jennifer. Sending love and hugs from Liverpool UK 👍😍💗
+Andrea C, I'm glad you liked the finished coloring page as much as I do! It was so fun to watch those lovely autumn colors come together on that page. You are such a sweetheart Andrea...you always make me smile. 😁
Have you tried this with the Glaze pens? Love what your doing. Gel pens are one of my favorite mediums and this just gives me so much more.
Very informative. I love the way you explain things. You make it sound so easy
Thank you for this video, ive been wondering how to blend scratchy gel pens because your right, it does ruin the project your doing, luckily I used to do baking and have a silicone spatula for cakes in my baking box, but I didnt know you could use the silicone spatulas to help with blending but now I do and thank you you just saved my gel pen project :)
Oh my.im glad.i found ur channel.. I love my coloured pencil.colourings but gel.pends and markers are not my best choice but ur videos have shown me some.techneques I can use in my colouring on my channel... keep.them coming xx
I am learning so much for your site and now videos. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us!
+Kat S., so happy to hear this. Thanks for your support.

What a fabulous idea! I'm heading to my dollar store right away!
Great idea! Thanks. I will try it today.
Brilliant idea 💡 thank you. I agree, more smear on my fingers than on the art is disappointing. Love your ideas. 🟠🟢🔵⚪️🟣🔴⚫️🟤🎨 🖌 👩🎨
I did not think to make beautiful rendering with the gel pen thank you very much for this video
+Brictelo L, thanks for watching and have fun!
hi Jen I do not know how I miss this one it turn out amazing beautiful thank you so much for sharing this video have a bless day love and creative colorful hugs to you

Me ever purple I know that my color too
wow I have a ton of gel pens and that exact spatula in my kitchen that I bought of course at my local dollar store for my vitamix. It has a whole new lease on life!
Thanks for sharing this! I needed this tip.
i haven't used my gelpens for coloring b/c i dont like the look, but have always loved colored ink to write, so have tons of pens. i just got a really cheap double ended nail art tool that is silicone tipped to write on my gel plate, i will so be trying this technique out and maybe rediscover coloring with my gel pens.
+Christy Essen, I hope you do try it and love it as much as I do! Gel pens are still on of my favorites!
Cool video!!! Just have a question, do you have to color an area with a highlighter before you use the tool with gel pens?
Nice idea with the highlighters, thanks for sharing all your ideas 👍🏻 Never though of using a highlighters.
Wow, what a great idea! I even have a few silicon clay tools floating around somewhere that might actually get some use 🤣 thank you
Great video. I am learning so much.
+Evelyn Abston, so glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!

This is a great tip! You should try Elite Gel/Glitter Pens. I got mine today and I love them. The ink flows out so good. I also bought my first Gelly Roll Pens and they came today too. I love them! They are Glossy 3D Glaze.Im going to save up so I can buy more.
+Sue Hull, I haven't tried the 3D glaze kind yet. I will write both of these down. Thanks for sharing.

+Margot Morpeth, this makes me smile! It is my biggest wish to inspire people to try new creative things. Have fun!!
Genius! Thanks for a budget friendly tip.
+Deb Bo, you're welcome!
All my gel pens do not have the color name, or color # . but thank you for your video especially on blending it has helped me a lot
I use one of the white vinyl erasers in the same way.
I use a razor knife to cut a small slice off the end so it's easy to get in the little areas as well as the big ones. Works like a charm.
You just have to make sure you have smooth cuts or it won't blend your ink evenly.
+Robin Wilson, great suggestion!
I love all the beautiful ideas fantastic thank you xx
This is new to me. I'm looking forward to giving it a try too.
I love this! I gotta get me a set of gel pens I did not know how awesome they are
+Otherweirdly, you will be addicted if you are anything like me! Have fun!
Wow! Finally a way to end my frustration with using gel pens. And for $1.00 - I was expecting some $15.00 craft store tool. You rock!
+Rita S Lyons, thanks! I am a big believer in finding thrifty solutions. 😊💚
Water color paper makes it go 4 miles
b/c of the coating. Also those gelly roll "glaze" work fantastic!
I love your videos and the silicone spatula trick. in one of your videos you mentioned vaseline, can you lead me to where I can find that information? thanks
+Angela Daly, I talk about blending colored pencil with Vaseline in the "color like a Pro" series. I believe it is video 7: blending. 😊
So cleaver! Thank you for the awesome tips.
+jmbess, you're welcome!
Wow, Jennifer what a great idea. I will try this out. I guess I have a silicon spac
+Marita St., I hope you like it as much as I do! Have fun.
Thanks for tip! Also your hands are so pretty!
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet. Color shapers work really well. Intended for painting and sculpting. Different size and flexibility to the tips. Some of which are tiny work great for small detailed coloring. Usually made of rubber or silicone. 🙂 This works as a great tool and cheaper alternative I guess. 👍
+Rachel Gates, great suggestion...thanks for commenting. 😊
You should try the silicone nail art tools for this. It's smaller than the spatula and get in tight spaces
Maybe, but who needs the expense when this tool does the job soooo well.
I got three of these at our local Dollar Tree store. One for art, the other two for cooking. Thanks for the tip.
+John Brislenn, that's awesome! I love Dollar Store deals!
Great idea. Thank you. Love from Liverpool England
+TheMargaretfletche, you're welcome 💜
+TheMargaretfletcher, you're welcome 😊❤️
I want to start art coloring with gel pens, what pens for you recommend? Like a fine point , and I like boho art, so what kind of coloring book do you recommend,? Ty
This is crazy easy but never thought of idea! thank you for sharing!!! I wish I had known about this forever ago!!!
Really great work👍👍👍
Nice video, you are so talented
Love this idea. Your leaves look beautiful!
+Chris Semelbauer, thank you ❤️
great tip, looks beautiful.
I like using a really small pointed paintbrush to blend gel pens but my brush got kinda messed up somehow so I'm definitely going to try this out tonight since I haven't been coloring because of the brush being messed up lol
+Marissa Strull, yes! I tried the paint brush too...and I tried water with my brush and a bunch of other things. The slilicone spatula is the best solution yet! Have fun. 😊
Nice video. You have so many beautiful pictures. I may have missed a few. Wanted to ask you about using baby oil when blending? Do you do all the drawings in your Coloring Bliss site. I'm a premium member. I remember one of your first videos saying you needed to study for your finals. What is the degree in? Thanks.
+Karen Stark, yes I do all of the drawings for all of the art on ColoringPagesBliss.com. I love to draw!! I did a tutorial all about blending in my Color Like a Pro series. Baby oil acts just like the ointment I use for one of the demonstrations. I'm not going to school right now. I'm a completely self taught artist...a student of RUclips, the internet, and my public library. 😉
Thank you so much! I'm going to try this tonight.
+Ramona Gaston, have fun! Let me know how it goes.
I have 2001 gel pens and I don't colour in that much with them and when I sour this this helped me and I can colour good know thxs a lot
+Poppy, glad I could help!

+Constance Fries, glad you like the idea. Have fun coloring!

Hi Jennifer......I have a question. Doofus here accidentally left the caps off 5 or 6 of her Sakura Moonlight Jelly Rolls and now they won’t flow.......I’ve tried tapping them and it’s not working. They’re virtually brand new and I HATE to throw them out. Any suggestions? (I canNOT believe I did that......I am always so careful!!)
My silicone cuticle pusher works fabulous also.
+sdm fann, awesome! Nice and small to work with too!
