The gold medal in 3x3 basketball was insane! That finals match, man, France and NL were so close to each other. Worthy de Jong managed an equalizer in the final seconds of the match itself with an absolute hail mary shot, and then in overtime with just 2 seconds left on the shot clock he did another hail mary shot from the 2 point line. It was absolutely bonkers!

3 years ago in Tokyo we had 36 medals with 10 gold and we were on 7th place. I am so proud that we continued this year. Best Olympics ever. We also had 14!!! 4th places but unfortunately they don't count. I am proud on Sifan Hassan who did an unhuman job to run 5km, 10km and marathon. 2 bronze medals and gold on the marathon. What an achievment. And Harrie Lavreysen who scored 3 gold medals. We call him hattrick Harrie hahaha. He is now with 5 gold and 1 silver the best athlete in summer olympics for the NL. But there were also dissapointing results because of bad luck. Puck Pieterse was on silver medal but had bad luck because of a flat tire. So we could have more medals but hey.. this is an amazing result.

@@BarryHermans In English speaking countries Holland is used more often indeed, but it mainly (not only) depends on the language family someone uses as primary language. Calling the Netherlands Holland is like calling the UK England. Most of the states in the US are indeed big, but the difference in between them is rather small for as far as I noticed and I've been to over half of them (most of the coastal and and southern inland ones and some others). A lot of them seem to barely know their regional history except for which side they were on during the civil war. So using their ignorance as a reason to not use the correct term for something sounds like a lazy argument to me.

The reason they are counting gold medals and not total medals is because the larger countries can field more participants, so they have more chances to get medals. So in order to make it more fair, they decided to only count total gold.

I unapologetically feel a lot of national pride for this, because it is truly a national achievement. Much more than the indivdual supertalents of Femke Bol and Sifan Hassan where I have nothing to do with at all, the solid wide base of athletes is the product of the nation: The huge number of private not for profit clubs and institutions and all their volunteers, the access to a diversity of sports for most kids through it, all the kids being able to cycle to training after dinner and go the regional tournaments by train. On top of that there is Papendal, a kind of sport monastry in the woods where athletes retreat to be among only other serious devote athletes.
there is just a lot of work and organization to let far less talent go to waste than other Western European countries. We as a country do that better, so we can justifiably take pride in that.

Comparing medals of the past to today you need to count the amount of potential medals.
In the old days there were far less types of Olympic sorts.
As a Dutch rower and instructor for youth I'm in a way sorry to see that the rowing is Concept II bad technique win.
We Dutch have organized a structured way of learning of this mostly student sport. The technique when not learned from 12 years old onward because only then can you start rowing then the subtle balance technique is harder still to learn student rowers incorrectly guess to become semi top rowers at 18 years of age in one year towards top rowers later on.
The gym technique on a Concept II means that the catch and exit aren't learned to be executed correctly. We won gold in a field in which all countries catch too deep and pull towards the belly button. In sted of catching just bellow the waterline and pullingbin a straight line above the belly botton.
Rowing is also a technicle sport besides strength and endurence.
I predict that any country that teaches even from 18 years (preferably earlier of course) and traing strength an endurence in balance will beat the sox off of any competion that doesn't.
The only exception might be Pimonov technique which is extremly bad for the back and should thus be baned if anyone wanting to compete that way. 11:18

I would say Rowing and Hockey are the two sports where some Gold is kind of "expected". Perhaps the same can be said for Cycling on track. I think most of us expected more with Athletics (especially the running events). I don't think we had this few swimming medals in at least 2 decades. 3x3 Basketball was a total surprise to me. We once were a great Volleybal nation....once upon a time. Equestrian was a disapointment. We used to be top of the world. Even though it is a great haul, it could have been. I don't want to sound cocky but it should have been at least 4 more Gold if everyone performed as expected. That said, it all is about the form of the day, not mad at any of the Athletes, they did awesome.

Field hockey, the dutch are top country in the world in team competition for decades. Its like premier league or spanish competition.. swimming should have been betrer. So as with cycling... basketball was on merit of players. We are not normally winning that. Best results; athletics: 4xmixed relay, 4x ladies relay and our goat: sifan Hassan winning marathon and two bronze (5000 and 10000). Cycling hattrick Harry did it in indoor cycling, 3x gold.. cycling on road, the men shoulld have done better.. but 6th overall is 2nd best to 1972 Olympische (4th) ever. So i am proud!

2nd best is not true. 6th in the medal list is the best result ever this year. In 1972 we were 16th. So the best results were: 2024 on 6th, 2021 on 7th and 2000 and 1928 on 8th place in the medal standings.
