In Margraten, Netherlands you have an American cemetery as an important memorial for the Second World War and attracts visitors from all over the world. After Normandy, France, is this the place with the most visited overseas American cemetery. Such a commemoration in Margraten is also on RUclips

The band is called Koninklijke Militaire Kapel 'Johan Willem Friso'. It's one of the 4 professional army bands that the Netherlands has, the other three being Regiments Fanfare Garde Grenadiers en Jagers (RFGGJ), Fanfare 'Korps Nationale Reserve' (FKNR) and Fanfare Bereden Wapens (FBW).

Thank you for your reaction on this beautiful performance of Emma. When taken into account how it was recorded(coughing public included), she just sounded perfect❤. In the same period and setting, she also sang Father. Very impressive also.

A few points in no particular order. First, you say about Emma's management. There is no official statement on this but consider that Emma's father is responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Communications for the South Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, 'Phil Zuid' which is based in Maastricht. There is no one better to look after Emma's commercial and career interests than her own father. Each year the Dutch commemorate the end of WWII and their liberation from German occupation on 4th May - a somber and respectful day to commemorate the fallen; on 5th May each year they celebrate the resulting hard won peace and freedom. Around this there are further events to mark this including educational events to ensure the next generations of Dutch children understand the consequences of war. Emma considers these natinal events important to her personally and has sung with the Royal Military Band for some time and these 'national remembrance' and related events (sometimes without the band) since 2022 (there may be others I don't know about so these are minimums): - 5th May 2022, National Children's Memorial, at Madurodam, The Hague - Emma sang as part of the liberation commemoration concerts, singing ‘Als Wij Niets Doen’ (If We Do Nothing) from the educational musical, ‘Soldier of Orange’. - 17th September 2023, Liberation Concert, at the American War Graves Cemetery, Margraten - Emma Sang 'Father', 'Hero' and as a duet 'You Raise Me Up'. - 9th April 2024, Children's Storytelling Day, at Madurodam, The Hague - Emma sang John Lennon's 'Imagine', and her own single ‘Strijder’ (Warrior). 5th April 2024, National Freedom Concert on the Amstel River, Amsterdam, Emma sang duets of 'Al Wij Niets Doen' with Dirk van den Brand and the cast of ‘Soldier of Orange’ and ‘When You Believe’ with April Darby. 8th May, A commemoration concert, in The Hague, Emma Sang 'Father' and 'Hero'. 14th May 2024, (YOUR REACTION VIDEO HERE) In remembrance of the Battle of Grebbeberg, at Cunera Church in Rhenen, near the memorial site at Grebbeberg (shown in the video), Emma sang ‘You Raise Me Up’. Note how important this must be for Emma. Emma's performance was on the evening of 14th May but this meant that afterwards Emma was straight on a plane to London because on 15th May she sang with Andre Rieu's orchestra at Wembley Arena to an audience of 12000. 30th Jun 2024 - Separate to the above but again with the Royal Military Band, and as you pointed out, Emma sang the Dutch National Anthem at the MotoGP in Assen. There were 110 thousand spectators watching live and 400 million watching on TV. Also worth noting is that in early 2023 Emma also completed a 4 concert tour with the Dutch Customs Orchestra. Emma sang some of her regular standards but also Michael Jackson's 'Earth Song, Lady Gaga's 'Shallow' and Tina Turner's 'Rolling On The River'.

Have never been on a helicopter, but i am very curious to it!

This is in my opinion the best documentary on the 80-year war, even though it is more told from a more Dutch perspective in the later episodes. It uses pieces and sources from all over the low countries, which is super. Only thing I miss from this documentary is the story of ordinary people in that time and their suffering and how the war was experienced in Flanders and Brabant compared to Friesland and Groningen. This is the end of Flemish dominance in Northern Europe as it shifts to Amsterdam and London and how the land that is now Belgium becomes the 'playball' of the superpowers in the next 3 centuries.

I am Dutch and speak fluently English and also some German. Thats what we had on school, but i also learned from TV programmes. And i like Helene Fischer from Germany singing! Do you know about her, Paul?

At the end of the wellknown Vrijthof concerts in Maastricht Emma received a diamond record award for 50.000. 000 streams of the song 'Voilà'. André Rieu personally reached out this award to Emma who was blown away and completely surprised. A diamond award is a huge achievement in the music industry.

She was diagnosed with Gastroparesis as a baby. Bullied at school because she was called a living gnome because of her stunted growth due to the condition, and grandma because she wheeled around her feeding pump in a trolley. Kids can be so cruel. I'm sure the bullies are eating their words now. I've been following her career now since I saw Voila and looked up earlier performances and interviews. She was a superstar even back before Voila. Her talent is stunning, her stage presence is so natural. I just love the wonderful relationship she has with Andre. Long may it continue. She truly is a gift to the world

I went and rewatched your reaction from last September to her singing Voila, and you did listen to Andre talking all about her disease. Maybe you need some memory vitamins? lol. Where to start? You're relatively new to Emma, and that gives me a huge area to play with, but the limit is the RUclips limit on comment length, and while Voila was deemed by many, including me, as perfection when it was first released, this most recent song has effectively redefined perfection, the song is not new, it was penned 20 years ago, before Emma was born, but it's never been performed until now, that said, the writer has written two other songs in recent years for Emma, LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly ruclips.net/video/jAsjpnpGY2M/видео.html Strijder ruclips.net/video/rL0GLdnWEKk/видео.html this new song, Dancing on the stars was released only 2 weeks ago, and the video is already over 3.2 Million views on just the RUclips channel. Voila was Emma's first ever appearance with Andre, the stage is set up on the main town square in Andre's home town of Maastricht each summer, there are a number of performances during the month of July, both 2023 and 2024 have seen 12 concerts, each to capacity audiences of 12,500 people, 4 concerts each weekend through the month, Thursday through Sunday. 12 months on, Andre presented her a Diamond disc that confirms 50 Million streams since the original release, it's actually massively more than that when other social media sites are added, and the RUclips figure is now in excess of 63 Million views. While Emma had significant stage experience, Voila was her first appearance with Andre, and the first performance of that much changed version of the song, Emma had learned it (phonetically, it was the French entry to Eurovision 2021, sung by Barbara Pravi) because the words so express her life experience, she was born with Gastroparesis, to keep her alive, she was put on tube feeding at 9 MONTHS, for 22 hours a day, so she's never had the experience of eating normally, she can only eat very small pieces of rice cracker, with slivers of other foods on them to let her experience the flavours, so effectively, she cannot share in any of the normal experience of meals shared with other family members, or close friends, and she also has problems with some drinks, milk doesn't agree with her, and to make it worse, as the medical profession struggled to diagnose her, they didn't fully diagnose her till she was 10, during those intervening years, things like her gag reflex was damaged, so she can't vomit, which is a serious issue for her condition, as her stomach doesn't properly process and pass food through, and vomiting would be a regular issue for most sufferers of this disease. In addition, her growth was significantly delayed, even now, at 16, she's still only 1 Mtr 50, and weighs around 50 Kg, so still tiny, and as a result, her stamina is significantly reduced compared to most, she struggles to climb more than 2 flights of stairs, even longer walking such as through a large airport is a challenge, made worse by carrying 2 feeding pumps in a shoulder bag or similar for 22 hours a day, the equivalent of a boat anchor, but she absolutely refuses to allow her disease to define her, and is determined to live as normal a life as possible, but on a bad day, she does sometimes resort to using a wheelchair. Her first ever appearance in a show, during Covid, so there was no audience, was in 2020, she was 12 at the time, the concert was arranged by her brother, Enzo, and among other things, she sang a powerful version of 'Opportunity', ruclips.net/video/oMyqCs6zZP4/видео.html I love the way she ends it with a spoken, 'I guarantee', and that beautiful smile that says she absolutely meant it, and at the same time knew she'd just nailed that performance, it happens a lot, that cute smile at the end of a significant performance, it was the same with Voila, she turned to Andre, arms wide, with a smile, no words, but it was clear what she meant, 'How was that?', and Andre's response said it all, one word, 'Fantastic', the embrace and bringing her back for more of the standing ovation, a wonderful moment. I will close with my normal appeal to everyone reading or listening to this channel, and also apologise that my recent comments are more repetitive than usual, I'm struggling with typing as a result of an injury that has one wrist in a splint, but Emma still deserves and needs as much support as possible, her situation hasn't changed since that first appearance with Andre last July, she is still tied to her two external feeding pumps for 22 hours a day, and I know from recent social media posts, she finds that hard to cope with at times, despite that she's loving the singing with Andre. Emma deserves all the support she can be given, as her foundation works to help find better treatments, or even possibly a cure for this awful disease, her foundation is almost unique in terms of the work they are doing, there's been very little research into a devastating illness, the effects on the sufferers are huge. One of the main people in Gastrostars is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in dealing with gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day. It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.

This is not the american militairy this is the dutch airforce i have a militairy background in the royal army and it was the best time of my live and recret it that left the army! It was the most trilling time of my live because i have been on exercise across europe and practicing for war and done the most crazy things of my life and one of them was flying in a helicopter and parachute jumping that sort of things that the most normal people never do in there life and i never ever been doing after that time. But live took me another way and thanks to army i can do the work i do now and really love but still after almost 20 years i am thinking about joining the royal dutch army reserves. But the things that hold me back are my shape at this moment and dont have the time for because i work 6 days in the week

Hey Paul thanks for checking out Emma Kok. Emma was born with a very, very rare condition called *gastroparesis* , which is stomach paralysis. She cannot eat food as it would not digest and make her sick. She gets nutrition from two tubes that are connected to her stomach and intestine, she must be connected twenty-two hours a day. The two pumps are small and portable, she carries them around in a bagpack. Her condition also affects her growth rate, she is very petite for a sixteen-year-old. She went through a lot of bullying when she was in school, for the last year she has been on tour and takes her school lessons online.

We saw her sing this in Maastricht 2 days after this vid was shot. Amazing to experience.
