  • What happened at the Olympics in Paris this year was insane! Hassan announced before the start of the Olympics she would compete in three disciplines, 5000m, 10000m and the marathon! On paper this looks like too much, however she did something similar in Tokyo before!
Hassan made history in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by winning gold in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. Se also managed to win a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter event. No women had ever competed and won medals in all these three events in the same Olympics!
On the track, Hassan has ofcourse a very impressive career already. However also in the marathon she is someone to be reckoned with already. After winning both the london Marathon and Chicago marathon. She broke the women’s course record in Chicago and ran the second fastest time in history 2:13:44. Let’s look how the schedule of Hassan looks like in the Paris Olympics.

Not sure if she would be fastest to break the WR, I think she is more an incredible racer being able to take advantage of her super strong kick! But she will always be part of the favorites for the marathon the next couple of World Championship cycles, even if she still competes on the track as well.

records in long distance running are arranged beforehand and in mixed marathons even good male runners make pace for the women. That is how you must imagine the present marathon world record. Contrary to that Sifan Hassan ran the second best time ever in Chicago after a long and lonely solo. So this week we have seen Hassan 'kick' three times, but there is much more to the lady.

True, there is the story of Emil Zatopek. His PB on the marathon is 2:23. Hassan just did that on this though course. So it is hard to compare both achievements ofcourse. In my opinion this triology is much harder.
